Restoring contacts from Backup & Restore - Xperia Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all,
I backed up using the Backup & Restore in 4.1.2 when updating to 4.2.2. Now that I am in this version, I can't restore anything as the OS vers are mis matched. I was wondering if I could some how just restore my contacts... I looked @ the back up folder in a browser and was wondering if I could somehow just decipher one of those files and restore it... Any help would be appreciated.

Not sure whether it will work, but you can try to install the old backup/restore app and try to restore. You may have to be rooted to push the backup/restore app to the /system partition.

[Q] What to backup before flashing roms?

I've had a Captivate since launch, and had a nandroid backup, but it just got replaced. Is there anything else I should copy to protect against flashing mishaps? I saw some comments in the dev forums about copying nv_bin or EFS to protect the IMEI, but it wasn't clear if that was necessary. Is that done using ADB?

I have never backed up my nv bin. I do not use kies though. If you use kies I would back it up, as to how, there are threads.
Back up your android id
Download, android id changer from market
Open app, click save id
When you flash you want to dl the app again, load id, click change.
All 2.2 roms give you a generic id which could cause market issues.
I can not tell from your post if you understand that you can not restore your nand backup onto the custom rom. DO NOT DO THIS
if you want your apps backed up use titanium backup. Only backup user apps no system info
Hope this helps

Thanks. Yeah, I have Titanium Backup Pro, and have been using it for custom roms. I just made the nandroid backup so I'd have it in case I needed to go back to what I had out of the box; the one time I restored it (to get my old android ID), I flashed back to JF6 using the odin one-click first. I was more worried about the more obscure stuff like nv bin.

If you have your contacts backed up with Google you don't need to use Titanium Backup or any other system, just log in to your Google account and then go to Sync Settings and trigger a synchronization, that will restore all your contacts automatically. Contacts-Sync works across all versions of Android.
cm9 has with good reason in first post dont restore with titanium
Tip always read first post and thread.
Best way is to revert to prior rom, restore, then synch with google and check if its all there, then go to cm9 and synch back. But be safe doing it.
I guess titanium can restore apps safely but data no, no gaurantee it will run perfectly. which is why in first thread it says no.
even between stock versions I run into issues, so I dont do it. When on one version, it shouldnt be an issue, backing up and restoring.

The Easy Backup Tool is for OS.
To reinstall music and pics just sync the device with Zune.
To restore apps and data take a look at this thread -

[Q] Backing up Rom with Safestrap when running KitKat

Anyone know if it's possible to do a backup with safestrap and flash a different KitKat rom? I'm currently on a KitKat rom, but what if I wanted to flash a different KitKat rom and not want to lose my stuff? When I mean lose my stuff, I'm talking about losing my rom setup...not text, logs etc. Basically I'm asking how to backup with safestrap like we did on jellybean since safestrap hasn't been updated to work with KitKat.
If it's possible, could someone share the how to steps?
Thanks in advance.

You can back up texts, call logs, etc. With super backup from playstore. Then make sure pictures are on external sd card. Backup apps with titanium backup.
Then follow guides on installing other rom. Once your up and running reinstall titanium backup, restore apps that you want. Restore logs and texts etc with super backup.
Safe strap backs up the whole rom. So that will do you no good for installing texts and such back.

You can't do a NANDROID backup at this time. You can use Titanium Backup to backup everything on your phone (app+data, text, call log, etc) If you restore it to a different ROM make sure not to restore system apps because that can cause some conflicts.

Yes and no... You can't do a full nandroid. But you can use SS to backup all the essentials to get your ROM Back up if you restore it.

[Q] Restoring backups from 4.1.2 onto 4.3

Hi, recently I tried to flash a 4.3 ROM onto my C5303 as an upgrade from 4.1.2. I backed up my phone (using Sony's software), and it turned out that I had to restore the backup since my phone got wiped in the process of upgrading. The thing is, whenever I try to restore the backup via PC Companion, I always get an error message and the restore fails.
Is there a way to go about doing this, or are all of my data and settings lost?
Thanks for all the help.
1) downgrade back to 4.1
2)restore
3)root your phone
4)backup your apps and data(sms, calls, wifi) using titanium backup(make sure you use your external sd to backup your stuff because you may format internal memory)
4)update to 4.3 keeping root
5)restore from titanium backup
