Hi,
The Airplane mode is not good for me.
When i do a phone call the phone often enables airplane mode automatically!
How can i completely remove airplane mode?
thanks
Quick answer, you can't without recoding the ROM
Do you normally use the phone with your left hand?
Sometimes I move the phone in such a way that the proximity sensor is no longer covered by my ear and thus the screen comes on and I start pressing it with my face and turn on airplane mode.
Try to hold the phone with your right hand or make sure the proximity sensor is close to your ear/face.

so for the past month my screen has been dead when it is in portrait mode. it would only turn on if i open my keyboard in landscape mode. if i close the keyboard the screen will freeze. the screen is still responsive in portrait mode though, for example, i can still slide to unlock even though the screen is off. i also can't turn on the phone unless it's the keyboard is on til i get to the lock screen.
also my phone has been restarting itself a lot this past month. usually i notice it does it when i walk and it's in my pocket. but it also happens even when i'm just using the phone, it'll randomly restart itself.
is there any solution to my problems or is it a lost cause?
This sounds like a ROM/overclocking issue. If you're overclocking, turn your levels down a little bit. Flash a different ROM if that's not the case. And if neither of those work, rip her open and check and make sure everything is in their proper place. There are guides online that you can google.
Hi!
Because I didn't get any answer in the help-thread I try it this way.
When you receive a phone call on your XZ, does the screen turn on again when you move the phone away from your ear?
This problem drives me crazy! Every phone call (active and passive...) the display of my phone turns off (as it should) when I put the phone to my ear. When I put the phone away from my head, the screen doesn't turn on again. I always have to press the power button to enable the display again. In rare cases, the display turns on as it should. But when a phone call is longer than a few seconds, the display won't turn on again.
The only reason for this problem I've found on the internet is the usage of a screen-protector. Actually I have a screen protector installed, but is has a cutout around the proximity sensor. I've also tested the proximity sensor with an app - it turns on/off correctly when I move my hand in front of the phone...
Does anybody of you experience this issue? I've tried a lot of firmware versions, but it's everytime the same... No matter if I use CM10.2 or different stock roms...
I hate it so much - not being able to stop a call before being redirected to an answering machine only because this piece of shi*** refuses to turn on the display during a call.
I'm looking forward to your answers - I can't imagine that my XZ is the only one that shows this behaviour.
Regards
is there really nobody with any screen on/off during call problems? can't imagine that my XZ is the only one... or is there an android-"feature" I donn't know?
I've already removed my screen protector... but nothing has changed...
I also have this problem frequently, i enabled power button to end calls under accessibility setting so if i press it, it ends the call, so could be partial solution to allow you to end calls, but not a real solution at all if you want an option not to end the call but to have the screen turn on only. Let me know if you find any other solutions

Actually stopping phone calls isn't my main problem. But it annoys me that I can't check the current time by removing the phone from my head for a second. Also when I have to interact with an answering machine (windows activation hotline for example^^) - everytime I have to input a number during a call this f*cking screen is off and I have to press the power button.
Don't people use their XZ for making telephone calls? Am I the only person on earth who uses the phone for other things than watching movies and surfing the net?
I also want to know if this is a general Jelly-Bean problem... If so, replacing my phone with another one would be meaningless.
Press the power button twice to activate the screen during call.

Pressing the power button ONCE also works to turn on the screen during a call. But that's the point. I do not want to press this damn power button. What does the phone has a proximity sensor for??? When I start a call and remove the phone from my head after a few seconds, the screen will mostly turn on itself. But after a while (a minute or longer) moving the phone away from the head will not turn on screen anymore...
Is it too hard for phone manufacturers to build a phone that can be used as a phone? If I wanted to have a tablet I would have bought one...
Problem solved. I have a Nexus5 now and it is just awesome. May the new owner get angry with this piece of sony sh*t.

Turn off phone
Press firmly on proximity sensor
Turn on phone
Once on main screen
Press firmly on proximity sensor
Try to make a call
I hope it works for you
Sony experia z1 how to on proximity sensor.
Ok so the sensor is VERY sensitive when I make calls. Everytime I call my bank and it asks to enter my account number while it's on speakerphone...my fingers don't even get close to the speaker and my screen shuts off until I put my finger far away.
Is there any way to improve or turn this off? It gets annoying when you are on the phone and trying to multi task and screen keeps turning off even though your not even close to the sensor
That is surprising because proximity sensor should be off when on speakerphone. Did you install any app which could directly affect proximity sensor? Maybe factory reset would fix that.

Yes it works like that but ur hands to close to the ear piece. Mind does that till I switch hands
BAD ASS NOTE 4 & GEAR S
When Im on the phone with somebody and i receive a text I could never use the scroll option to bring the bar down because of the sensor. What I do is hit the power button on the side of the phone, then hit it again and sign in with my code, then i dont have the sensor problem anymore. I will still be on the phone and Im at the homescreen. Thats the only way around it for me. its real quick too.
Solution
I am on the phone all day and need the screen to not time out because I am on and off the mute button a lot.
I use Call Light to make sure I always have the screen on when on a call.
Hope that helps some.
As stated above. I have had it turned off since the first week. I keep the phone in my pocket and it will keep waking up, unlocking, and doing things including dialing people.
Maybe I have someone living in my pocket.
Any mod out there? Would like to use the feature again. In the mean time I have been using the led mod.
Ambient display uses the PROXIMITY SENSOR to decide if it should actually turn on. It will not turn on in your pocket.

I know but it still turns on. I do not know if maybe it happens in pockets with white lining or something. I kept getting pocket dials or on a website. Whatever always happens if I have it on.

if the conditions are met for the accelerometer to open the ambient mode screen then it will turn on for a split second before the proximity turns it off. I tested this by using an app that make the phone vibrate whenever the screen is turned off (Gravity screen) and putting a piece of opaque tape over the proximity sensor. Moving the phone to trigger ambient mode caused the phone to vibrate meaning there was a split second where you could theoretically interact with the phone which would cause it to fully wake up and the proximity sensor doesn't cause the phone to turn the screen off unless you're in a call.
Coincidentally Gravity screen does allow you to make your phone sleep using the proximity detector so it can also turn the screen off for you regardless of what is on the screen at any given time. Meaning it'll turn off the screen even if you or your butt is interacting with the screen. And it has settings for pocket angles or apps and whatnot to disable it so you don't lose your screen while watching a video or something.
See. I new there was a way. Thanks!
Hi
I made a project to turn my phone to airplane mode automatically at night.
That would be very simply if I'd go to sleep at the same time every day.
My project uses the motion sensor to detect whether I am still awake.
Tasker checks if the phone was moved within the last 10 min and turns the phone to airplane mode if not. If the phone is being moved again tasker turns off airplane mode again. (Sensor is only alive until it was moved. Any move should turn the sensor off until next 10min check. So it won't drain too much battery)
To narrow down the sensor time I defined time dependent night mode which is turned off by an alarm event or rather late in the morning (in case no alarm was set)
There is also a sleep now task which can be triggered (with a widget if setup) to put the phone in airplane mode until it is picked up again.
I had to play around with sensor sensibility, length and accelerometer (which is now set to "no")

(Could not upload it as xml ...)
2 tasks are not part of the project but used anyways: silent and loud: these are to make the phone silent and loud again in the morning. I am not using taskers reset settings here because I want the phone to become loud 5 min after the alarm goes off because otherwise I get a sound notification about anything that happened straight away after the alarm goes off which I don't really like ... (plus if I look at the phone in the middle of the night I get a loud notification as well - even the phone turns itsself silent after max 20min again ...)
For airplane mode I use secure settings. My phone allows airplane mode with either secure settings or tasker itsself. If you don't have secure settings try taskers internal airplane mode: Net - airplane mode
Please check it out and comment ...
Regards
Nice
Can't wait to try this. Thanks for sharing.
Still one of my favorite projects on Tasker and never stopped using it.
Thanks again, Daniu.
