Hey, everyone.
My friend and I unlocked his Note and he switched to T-Mobile. We played around with flashing different radios and ended up with one that gets decent signal, but nothing that's satisfactory, especially at his house where my TMO S4 gets 4G. Are there other radios that work on this phone? Can it be any T-Mobile radio?

So you are using an ATT Note? Might try posting in the ATT forum as there are many ATT Note->T-mobile service users there.

I will do that. Thank you
I had the same problem as u as I used an at&t note for Tmobile and 4g speed sucked big time... The reason is because the frequencies and the antenna is different from Tmobile n at&t... U won't ever get actual 4g speeds unless u have an actual Tmobile phone... Unless there's a new way to do it but yeah ask over at the i717 rogers forum...

I'm gonna try em out for there 20 day grace period and was wondering if there's gonna need to be anything special that needs to be done to my phone to make it work with the T-Mobile cards. Also does anyone here have a captivate on tmobile in central FL or anywhere that could tell me how their service is compared to att. Att is slow for me here in Ocala. I'm hoping T-Mobile can help me out.

sim unlock your phone. there are numerous tutorials in these forums to do so
if you think ATT is slow, wait until you put in a TMobile sim card and all you can get is EDGE network.
^This. Most ATT phones will not get anything past edge on Tmobile. (Housemate is with Tmobile and tested with Inspire 4G, Infuse 4g and my captivate. I've find it amusing that I could use his Vibrant with 3g no prob xD.) Still don't understand why ATT uses their freq that way, makes me think its just for them to be spiteful.
so ur saying theres no way to use tmobiles '4g' network on my captivate or my gfs inspire? if this is in fact the case, i will be cancelling the order.

thats absolutely what we are saying.
you will not get 3g or 4G with an ATT phone on Tmobile
Something to do how ATT uses data Only on the 1800mhz band and Tmobile uses the 850? something like that.
I saw a deal for an unlocked "world" version of the note and I am on TmoUS. So if I buy the note, will I be able to use my unlimited data plan with 3g or H? I am confused reading the forums on the att side and this one...they're saying I can only get edge? Because that would really suck.
I'm on tapatalk and can't do a decent search on xda via app so if this had been asked already, just point me to that thread and I will gladly have this one deleted. Also, the desire to get the unlocked note is a spur of the moment kinda thing since the deal is only available for one day. Btw, unlocked note is selling for 585 with shipping from 1saleaday.

what they said is right you will only get edge speeds on tmobile with the inter.. Note...If you use AT&T then its no big deal.
I am also on tmo. I found an article that says you can run tmo hspa+ on att note so I'm going to try and trade line on Craigslist. Edge is killing me man.

I have T-mo US and I get H in most areas ( I live in Philly area ) as T-mo acquired some 1900mHz, but yes, the natural 700Mhz 3g/4g does not work, sorry.

Hello, so let me get this right. If I have HSPA+ in my area (which I do in Chicago) then I can run the International Note on non-edge tmobile speeds?

that depends on the frequency of the 3g network in your area.
however, this is the first I've seen it mentioned that American t mobile has any other 3g bands than 700mhz.
So I'd say no, you most likely will not get 3g speeds.
The N7000 will only run on T-Mobile edge. If you want 4g you have to AT&T or Straight Talk.
This is true. T-Mobile Sucks! EDGE just blows and I am amazed anyone uses it.
Oh well. I am going to try straight talk in a few weeks to see if that is any better.
Well, EDGE is downright terrible...no one can argue that. If you want to use T-Mobile, you're better off getting the AT-T note, unlocking it, then installing the right modem files to use it on 3g/4g. I use T-Mobile myself, and decided to keep the Int. version...I think it's better, and the development community is WAY better, mainly because the device has been out longer. It's up to you really. Don't hope T-Mobile will be updating it's 1900mhz spectrum in your area anytime soon...it's a process I'm sure will take many years.

Yes they do number porting as long as it is not a at&t number because straight talk uses at&t network.
It sucks that it is more difficult to get the inter version to work on 3g or h on tmo. I did read that the inter version is better than att version and I do believe that development will be better with the inter version as it obviously covers more countries and it has been out longer. I really want this note but I'm just gonna wait a bit. I have a feeling those guys working on getting tmo to work on inter version will be able to do it. Wishful thinking probably but it is possible with all the talented devs out there. I guess I'm going to be on sensation for a while until tmo comes up with a phone as awesome as the note. Thanks for all the responses!!

Check if your area has the TMO 1900Mhz band and if it does then you're in luck for some 3G TMO goodness.

FYI and I have heard of this issue before, Straight Talk gets varied reception in Metropolitian areas. Let me explain.
I have had ST for a few months now, on the NT7000. I have had zero issues.
A couple of caveats
DO NOT use more than 100mb/day or 2gb/month, whichever comes first. People have had their contracts terminated by ST for doing this. So not truly unlimited (but still more than decent deal). This is not a *hard* limit- I have done more without any issues by accident.
I get decent service in the suburb of NYC where I live (few tall buildings), actually much better service than Tmobile had.
However, in NYC itself, the service can be absolutely horrible depending on area. My guess for this phenomenon is that while you are on an ATT MVNO, this doesn't necessarily mean that you have the same roaming rights as regular ATT customers. In a metro area, roaming might be necessary to get signal in certain places.
My download speeds at 2gb down 1 up.
I would just buy a months' worth at first and try it out as prepaid, then port your number in.
From what I understand, you don't even need to buy the e71 like I did anymore

I do. I got it with the SGS II and ow with the Note. up to 3mbs download. Good enough. MediaNet is $10 a month unlimited, I don't use nearly 2GB maybe less than 1 as I am in WiFi most of the time. I am using a Cingular.wap setting. Its different than the "smartphone" APN but the speeds are the same (until LTE is available) I don't need LTE speeds on a phone. I don't even get those speeds at home on cable. maybe 7Mbs DL.
Hi all!
I recently purchased an HTC First in hopes of running it on T-Mobile's $30/unlimited plan. Rather than doing my due diligence in researching radio bands, I bought the First and ended up stuck on T-Mobile Edge (2g) network.
This is because T-Mobile 3g/~4g uses the 1700MHz+2100MHz spectrum, while the First is set for AT&T 3g: 1900MHz+2100MHz.
Through more research I found that the Samsung Note II had the same problem, but by modifying the radio they could get it to use the 1700MHz spectrum as it is only disabled.
I hope to keep researching if this is possible, but does anyone have any information to help/completely demolish any hopes for this?
Thanks!

T-Mobile AWS (1700 3g) *might* be there. *IF* it's there, you might be able to flash the baseband of the HTC One Mini when it comes out (and *IF* it has AWS). Haha, yeah, a lot of ifs and mights. As far as I know, I don't know of any other HTC first variants (even though the HTC website lists others for other regions)
However, I wouldn't worry too much. The AT&T version will work on T-Mobile's refarmed 1900 MHz 3G and T-Mobile's LTE.

Haha yikes. Thanks for the informative reply!
I ended up selling my First to a friend on AT&T who wanted to get away from iOS, and bought a used HTC Incredible 4G which I'll continue to use on my unlimited Verizon plan. Going to give the T-Mobile sim to my girlfriend who has a Nexus 4 and wants to leave AT&T. I've switched phones 3 times in the past week but finally ended on something to temporarily replace my aging Galaxy Nexus. I'll reevaluate after the X phone comes out this fall!
Haha, yeah, I've been looking for phones since my Sensation died and want to move on from the Fusion 2 I've been using on T-Mobile.
It looks like the X phone, HTC One Mini, and the Xperia SP are all very similar with only camera and battery differences. I'm stuck trying to justify spending more than double with any of those over the HTC first for a better camera, gpu, and/or battery.

Not sure. But by me the switch from 1700 - 1900 has started. I get "4g" in a bunch of places. The rest is edge though. But it improved in just a week.

Thanks for chiming in on that. So its 4G and not their "LTE?"
I'm really leaning on picking up a new/leftover HTC First on ebay or something to fiddle with. I've heard its a pretty solid device with great build quality; only downfall is no expandable memory.

Yeah I haven't found lte yet but it is supposed to be near me. The 4g or HSDPA+is fast though. I get 4-9 Mb/s down on it. I may drive through a lte area tomorrow. Currently I'm only using a $30 pre paid to try out t mobile in the areas I generally go.

so this phone runs on diff bands then the typical att phone? normally i can pick up lte on most att phones using tmobile but only getting 4g with the first..
I talked my wife into switching to Tmobile and gave her my S4 from ATT. Her service is not so good and I'm tired of hearing about it. I've tried different modems from ATT but no real improvement. Anyone have any experience on the subject? Aside from wifi calling, would a phone from Tmobile have the same service?

No, they use different bands. You can use a T-Mobile phone on AT&T just fine but an AT&T phone on T-Mobile will not get you the correct speed connections due to the limited bands AT&T uses. That is why I decided to go with the T-Mobile variant rather then any of the others.
I see. Its a tough one. Att is getting so locked down but tmobiles service is sketchy where I am. I would hate to pay for a new phone when the S4 is running great still. Damn. Thanks for the input.

You could sell the phone and purchase a T-Mobile variant of the same phone to run on AT&T or upgrade to a newer T-Mobile phone. The T-Mobile bands work great on AT&T network, just not the other way around. That's what I have done. I have tried the AT&T and the Verizon phones and they both work good on AT&T but if you want all around compatible phone, then T-Mobile phones are the way to go. Just get the unlock code and throw in any sim you want and set up the APN.
Wondering if there are any tmobile roms that work on a unlocked sprint version. I'm using a sprint rom now and it works ok. Just want to be the most compatible with tmobile as possible. I am a noob to using unlocked phones. I was with sprint for 10 + years and just switch to tmobile last week. Thanks in advance
Update- i flashed the the tmobile maximum ovrdrive n5 rom and its working great! Came from a sprint hybrid note 5 rom. Wiped and did a clean install and everything works great. Still no lte but my 4g has gotten better speeds. My new question is im still on my sprint ok1 modem should i try a tmobile modem or stay with it the way i have it?
I don't believe you can use a sprint phone on tmobile. Different network. And as for the rom. I don't think there are. I could be corrected but sprint phones are only good on sprints network and that's it.
