RUU - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys, i just want to be on the safe side before doing anything like S-off, so i wonder how do i find which RUU is made for my phone model ? i have tried searching but didn't get anywhere.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860
No offense but you didn't look very hard. Its in a sticky in the dev thread
Once you s-off (which is ridiculously easy for this device) you can use any RUU. Good luck and enjoy

You haven't said what OS you're on or what Hboot you have, S-Off might not even be an option, nor might an RUU if you are on a 2.24 base with Hboot 1.54 ... A little more info would help to make sure you are given the best, most accurate advice.

I haven't updated my phone to this new Hboot 1.54, i am still on with the old one, i have read not to update if i want S-Off. The reason i want this is because if suddenly i had to return my phone to a service or something, i don't want to void my warranty. If i am not wrong when you S-Off, you can reverse it also.

Cool, yes, you are correct, S-Off can be reverted ... It's also worth noting that if you S-Off now, you'd be able to upgrade to Hboot 1.54 and still maintain S-Off. The problem lies with those, like me, who are on the 1.54 Hboot but haven't gone S-Off ... We're now stuck until a solution is available, although I didn't want to go S-Off so it's not really a problem.
If you go S-Off btw you can flash any RUU from any region and change your Cid/Mid, although I can't help you on the whole RUU when S-Off process as I've never run one, nor been S-Off as I previously mentioned lol.

I still can't find which RUU is for my phone, is there anyway to find ? is it via CID or any other way ?

What software build are you on at the moment? So to Settings>About phone>Software information and post the version, e.g. 2.24.401.8

There is an RUU ZIP for that somewhere but I can't find it. I'm sure someone has a link to it somewhere!

I didn't find an actuall 1.29.401.16 RUU, but there is some zips, which i am kinda not interested. But i found 1.29.401.12 OTA's . So i want to know if it is possible to flash the 1.29.401.12 and let the Htc one update itself ? and than do an S-on if i wanted to return it to a service ?

The 1.29.401.16 ZIP is the RUU but in ZIP format so it's the same thing. Basically in the RUU.exe there is a ZIP called ROM.zip - this is what is the actual ROM and is flashed via the RUU in fastboot mdoe. It's fine and it's the one you want as there is nothing else available for your phone

Well, i am thinking of a scenario which i don't know is possible or not, so here it goes. Since i want to be on the safe side, how about i take a nandorid back of the stock, and than if i wanted to returen to stock, simply flash an RUU like 1.29.401.16, and than simply recover the nandroid backup over it, and update if i wanted to ? Is it possible ?
The only problem is that i don't know how to remove the custom recovery when it restore the nandorid back, and update it.

There are only 2 versions of Hboot -> 1.25 and 1.28, there are no official older versions, maybe beta or engineering ones that were not released publicly.
You can S-OFF with unprotected Hboot, but this is not needed for you, check your CID from your phone and flash the according RUU for it, if not, take this tool and flash the S-OFF for 1.25 and after that you can flash any RUU you want as it bypasses that (as far as i know), after the RUU flashing, the HBOOT will be overwrited as well, so you will end up with a stock, locked, S-ON device with the region-stock ROM of your choice, hope this helps

I just did what you say.
I S-OFF my phone.
I relock bootloader.
Then, I install RUU. It seems to run smoothly but in the end error 140 came up and my phone is S-ON again with still old custom rom.
What should I do?

Well, as far as i know, you unlock the bootloader again, S-OFF, and after that you flash the RUU, i didn't install any RUU's until now, you should check the guide from stona15 that can be found here, There are more details about what to do and what you want.
Hope this helps

Cheers dude ... I did look at that a bit ago when I was trying to find it but I want the actual stock if poss from HTC. My current software version is 1.29.401.13, is that an OTA or is that the version of an RUU I need? I looked on the HTCDev site but I couldn't find anything under my operator but then I don't know if I can just flash a generic UK RUU or Europe or what lol, bit more to it on this phone than on my previous Xperia Ray.
The one listed should be fine m8, just know that you can't relock your phone properly.
the one i downloaded to keep for my sim free UK is RUU_M7_UL_JB_50_HTC_Europe_1.28.401.7_Radio_4A.13. 3231.27_10.31.1131.05_release_310878_signed.exe from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39588860
restore that and it should prompt to update to whatever the latest version is once you boot up

Hi I have been following this thread, I read the instructions and it says you have to fastboot oem lock and then flash the RUU.
When you have gone through this process do you have to go through the process of unlocking the device via HTC id token again should you want to unlock, root and flash a recovery?

Any idea what one I need mate or is it not available? Tbh, I did try and restore using all the Europe versions on the link and I always got an error telling me it wasn't the correct RUU ... Why is it so hard to restore a One compared to say, Sony. When I had an Xperia Ray it was so easy to do, software direct from Sony to restore to stock, yet HTC have nothing simple when it comes to restoring ... It's blagging my head just trying to find any files to go back to stock.

HTC have never publicly released their RUUs, no idea why. You will need to use mike1986's 'stock' ROM to go back to stock or use one of the Nandroids posted in the Nandroid/RUU thread which is 1.29.401.13 or higher
Cheers for all the help guys, I think I'll just leave it unrooted and stock, at least until there is a stock RUU that is the same as the version I'm currently on, I could use the one from Android Revolution but correct me if I'm wrong but isn't that the leaked 4.2.2 whereas I want an RUU for my curren version but if it's not available then I'll just wait and hope it appears at some point ... Maybe I'll take the plunge then when I have all the bits I need lol.

I am in the same boat as you.. My rom is also 1.29.401.13 and i can not find the RUU for it.. So someone correct me if I am wring please.
From what I understand is that in order to use the RUU , you must have the same 1.29.401.13 RUU for this 1.29.401.13.. if you have any other RUU it will not work.. is this correct?
so if there is no 1.29.401.13 out.. then is it only to just use the android revolution 10.1 rom or the stock rom .4.2.2 ?
thanks for anyone who will clarify this .. as I am really lost

[Q] RUU to downgrade 4.2.2 to 4.1.2?

Alright, so my friend has an AT&T One and it had 1.26.502.10 firmware (like mine), but he had some camera issues... He decided to do all the modding (root, s-off, etc...) and upgraded to 4.2.2 firmware 2.24. His camera issues continue, and he plans on returning to 4.1.2 with the available RUU that returns the phone to 1.26.502.12. He is s-off, supercid, unlocked bootloader, rooted, running twrp 2.6.0.1 and is on stock rooted 2.24.401.1 Rom. I thought of just using that RUU to return him to fully stock, but since it has all the mods I'm not really sure if I should take another approach or other steps. Please help me out here, I don't wanna brick his phone (even though he's taking it to be replaced). Thanks in advanced!
just download this and run it

Hmm, will I get a kind of error during the RUU process that might possibly brick the device or will it warn me before the RUU process starts? Can I and should I just flash the 1.44 RUU from fastboot before starting the RUU? The phone's on 2.24 right now with the modded 1.54 hboot (I know he first has to flash the original, but can/should he flash the 1.44 instead?).
EDIT: As far as I've read till now, the ones having errors were converted to Google Edition with GE hboot and all... I did read about 2 people (one with 2.17 and the other with 2.24 like my friend's phone) both on 1.54 hboot and it worked for both of em. I'm just gonna go ahead and flash the RUU on my friend's phone and hope for the best

[Q] How to Debrand HTC One

I have a HTC One on the EE network in the UK and I am still currently on Android 4.3 and Sense 5.5, they haven't bothered to release Android 4.4 yet and I have no hope that they will release Sense 6.
So, I would like to know how to go about changing my EE branded phone into an Unlocked International Version so that I can receive OTA updates direct from HTC.
Current CID: ORANG001
Current Hboot: 1.55
Current Software Number: 3.63.61.1
Radio: 4A.21.3263.04
Locked Bootloader with S-On
I would very much appreciate any help you can give.

first of all you need to unlock your bootloader and s-off your phone, debrand is not possible with s=on
the you would need to change your cid to something like HTC__001 or developer edition cid, one fastboot command required to do this.
and then run the correct RUU for those cid's and your done.
its quite easy to do, the hardest part is getting s-off, however you may be ok on 1.55 hboot, try rumrunner, read the instructions and download the required file here: http://rumrunner.us/

nope its not required for either, you should be able to s-off on stock rom, if you get an error or for some reason it fails, then you MAY have to flash a custom recovery and custom rom / kernel.
The RUU's will put you back to fully stock anyway in the end.

If the s-off does cause an error or it fails, can this cause my device to get bricked?
And by fully stock do you mean that the RUU turns s-on and locks my boot loader? (just in case I need to send my phone in for repair).

no your phone wont brick
and no the ruu wont turn your phone s-on, you will need to lock your bootloader before running the RUU, but that's one simple command too, but only after s-off.
all you need right now is to make sure you have the drivers installed and that your device is detected in windows both when booted into a rom and on the bootloader screen.

not really something they will check to be honest, but if you s-on and you've played about with your phone down the line, like flashed a modified firmware or hboot, you will get an instant brick, if your hboot version is too high you will get the tampered flag back, or if you make a mistake along the way and the fix requires s-off, it will be very difficult to get again.

1. Unlock boot loader
2. Get s-off via rumrunner
3. Change CID
4. Lock boot loader
5. Run RUU
And, I am currently on 4.3 and Sense 5.5, so can I go straight to the sense 6 and Android 4.4 RUU, or do I have to install the sense 5.5 and Android 4.4 RUU first.

yup, change your cid to its original one, and find your service providers RUU and flash it.

[Q] Can I downgrade 6.06 to 1.29 with S-OFF

Hi all, I was just wondering if I should run the RUU ZIP or EXE if I am on S-OFF.
I currently have the 6.06.401.1 firmware along with the stock 6.06.401.1 rom. I need to return to the stock 1.29.707.1 for my HTC__044 before taking the latest OTA to Android Lollipop.
So far, I have used my S-OFF to change my bootloader to *LOCKED* and flashed stock recovery and stock rom for the 6.06.401.1.
I currently have both the 1.29.707.1 RUU EXE and ZIP. Which one should I use? I read that I need to have the 1.44 Hboot but I currently have the 1.54 Hboot.
Halp?
uhm, what? this is nonsense , the lastest available RUU is "4.19.401.9" which must be flashed under hboot 1.56 ... there is no need to go to initial release of android 4.1!
WARNING!!! YOU MUST FLASH HBOOT 1.56 BEFORE APPLYING 4.19.401.9 RUU
RUU: http://d-h.st/KmT
+There is no need to LOCK your bootloader to get an OTA update... Mine is always unlocked and never had a problem with OTA's
+RUU's work only under S-OFF

you can use the RUU you have fine 4.20.707.1, you'll just have to make sure your cid and mid match first, and also just flash the 4.20.707.1 firmware first, this will put you on the correct HBOOT and system files for the RUU, no need to lock your bootloader with s-off.
or you can skip all of that and just flash the 7.19.401.2 RUU right now as your phone is as your already on the 6.xx.401.x firmware.
you don't really have any reason to back flash.

But I can't seem to find a 4.20.707.1 RUU. I only have the 1.29.707.3 firmware. I need a region specific one because I need to trade my phone in.
Could you point me in the direction of a 4.20.707.1 RUU zip?
Also, is it safe to OTA update if I flash back to 1.29 with S-OFF?
Edit: Crap I made a typo in my OP, I mean that I have the 1.29 RUU EXE and ZIP right now.

I thought you said you had the 4.20.707.1 RUU
if not then you'll have to use the 1.29.707 one that you have, you'll just have to flash the 1.44 hboot first or the firmware that matches the RUU.

Yeah I had a typo.
So yeah, I have both the EXE and ZIP RUU.
I'm thinking that the ZIP RUU has the 1.44 hboot no?
Also, most importantly, can I take official OTA updates while I am S-OFFed?

yes you can take OTA's whilst s-off, do not go s-on at any point.
I would also say try the RUU.zip first.

Righto. Will report back again.
I hope the guy at the store doesn't go into the bootloader when I trade my m7 in. Even then I already set the flag to locked so I think he'll miss that S-OFF portion.

Actually, problem. :/
I have a matching CID which is HTC__044 but the modelid is PN0714000.
The RUU's android-info has a matching CID of HTC__044 but a modelid of PN0711000.
What now?

unlock your bootloader, flash twrp recovery and change your mid, are you sure your using the RUU for the M7_UL as that looks a lot like the M7_U mid too me, can you give me a link for the RUU's you downloaded please.

here you go, do this instead, this is going to be a bit backwards and forwards.
Unlock your bootloader, and flash TWRP recovery, then use the mid change tool to change your mid to the correct one.
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712469376
next copy this guru reset file to your internal storage and flash it, select no to stock radio and no to stock recovery: http://www.htc1guru.com/2013/11/guru-reset-3-63-707-4-stock-rom/
now lock your bootloader
and finally flash the matching firmwqare from here: http://d-h.st/BWu this will put stock recovery and stock radio on your phone.

I actually ran the RUU. It's now stuck on waiting for device after the usual flush after 90 hboot pre-update.
I changed the modelid in the android-info.txt since it was decrypted.
Anyone help me?
My computer can't see the device anymore after flashing the hboot!

if your using windows 8 or higher then that's the problem, HBOOT 1.44 doesn't work with it, there is a fix around here somewhere by @clsA but ive never had to use it myself.
trouble with changing the android-info text file is all of the OTA's will fail due to you having the wrong mid on your phone, you'll have to change your phones mid as soon as possible.

Ok, I have changed to an old Windows 7 laptop and tried doing the fastboot flash zip again. After I press enter, nothing happens at all. Not a single code at all. Just a blinker.
Edit: Started moving again. Phew. I almost had a heart attack.
So now do I do the fastboot writemid command?

to change the mid you need to use the mid change tool I posted a link to it earlier, install it inside twrp recovery then select the mid you require from the list it gives you.

It's okay now. I found a matching mid RUU for my phone.
But my question now is should I go S-ON to remove the red "This is a test device. Accordingly, to collect critical information about the device, Tell HTC is enabled and cannot be turned off regardless of device settings" warning? Or just leave it S-OFF and hope that the techies at the store doesn't notice it?

I have done all the OTAs now so should I do the fastboot oem writesecureflag 3 as the final step before putting the phone aside to trade it in?
