Get some of the Geneic USB cable from Ebay.. 6 out 2 Atrix HD don't accept Generic USB cables. They can not charge. When connected to PC, it keep detect phone on and off. Can not get stable connection. But another 2 back Atrix HD detected fine. Most of White Atrix HD don't work well. I also tried to connect to any phone, like older model Motorola Triumph, Motorola flip phone and My LG phone work find. Atrix HD seems picky on USB cable. Anyone having same problem?? Feel free to post or comment.

I would bet your problem is with the cheap cables and not your devices. I have 3 devices and randomly interchange all of them with a variety of name brand and generic cables and haven't had any trouble.
The atrix really only like a factory cables and chargers. Especially if it dies.

I've used 5 different cables with my AHD ever -- OEM Moto Bravo, OEM Moto Defy, OEM Moto AHD, Samsung ???, and HP ???. Samsung only worked on wall charger/car charger, HP only on PC. My Bravo cable charges and transmits data faster so I use it normally with my AHD and use the AHD cable with my Defy. My OEM Bravo cable is the best USB cable I've ever had. If you ever get the chance to get an old school Moto OEM cable, get it, you won't regret it.
I'd like to add that our OEM AHD cables have a tendency to short. My Dad's shorted out a few weeks ago. What would happen is it would bootloop then instant it was plugged into the wall charger. I gave him my Defy cable (didn't want to....) and now its working just fine.
This is all anecdotal evidence, but I've seen the ame anecdotal evidence in every Motorola Forum. Some of us get lucky with generics, most of us don't.
I agree, OEM cables are much better. I can use cheap cables with the OEM charger plug, but it makes the touch screen not work correctly...it will select things I didn't touch and makes almost impossible to use. Just go with OEM.
I have never had a problem with any of the USB cables I used with my AHD. These include a cable from my HTC, Samsung S2, LG P930, and a Samsung Galaxy S.
OEM cable from samsung, HTC and even with no name cable from old flip phone work. It can not work with Generic white cable got from Ebay come with Iphone Adapter one. It's just a hardware cable, how can a software tell the different wires inside the Generic cable???
Why this generic cable work fine on my Motorola Triumph and LG phone?? It seems like Atrix HD has some software to detect None OEM cable like Iphone do.

I hope this hasn't been asked yet, I searched all over and couldn't find it. So here goes...
I bought a Bionic on Ebay, however it didn't come with the USB cable. I then come to find out that the Bionic is quite particular about the cables it associates with. I've tried ordering several Motorola cables but none seem to work.
In short, could someone look at their Official, Came-in-the-box, Bionic USB cable and tell me the model number on it? It should be on one of the tags attached to it.
SKN5004A Motorola MicroUSB Cable Made in China
If you need one I have a bunch...PM me and pay for shipping and it's yours.
I believe the USB has to be Verizon branded to sync to your computer. Any of them should let you charge though. Motorola and Verizon have some deal worked out that it has to be Verizon branded for transferring files. This might not apply to every single bionic but for the most of them. Its there way of ensuring that you pay $20 for something that's only worth $5.

I have a ton of USB cables and they all work fine. I think there are some misconceptions about USB cables for these phones. I've heard all kinds of things, but the following is the truth.
First you have to understand the USB cable's construction. Inside there are five wires: 5V, D+, D-, ID and GND. The 5V and GND connections are used for supplying power. The D+ and D- are used to transmit data using differential digital signaling. The ID (sometimes called X) pin is not part of the USB protocol, but some manufacturers use it as an additional signal. You can read more about all this stuff here.
There are two kinds of USB cables that are sold: cables for 'data' and cables for 'charging'. The data cables have all the USB lines and meet the full USB spec. These are the ones you want. The 'charging' variety only have the +5V and GND wires, and have the data wires missing, or tied together. These will not work well.
I want to be clear that the labels 'data' or 'charging' are used in the marketing and product descriptions, and don't accurately describe the usage of these cables for your smartphone.
I use a mix of USB cables successfully with my Bionic. I have a USB cable from my old Samsung Droid Charge that works, one that came with a bluetooth headset that works, one for an LG phone I 'borrowed' from a hotel, and one I bought from monoprice.com that also works.
Ok, I've got one on order from Newegg and one on order from Amazon, both of which should be the SKN5004A... hopefully one works. If not, CellZealot I may be sending you a PM
Also, Tuckmobile, I wish it were that simple, unfortunately, I believe all the cables I have are "data" cables since my old phone syncs like the Titanic on all of them.
It is that simple. Today I'm syncing with a Nokia cable, not sure where it came from, but it's working great. What motorola cables did you order that didn't work? Links?
Micro USB Cable: http://www.monoprice.com/products/subdepartment.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10303#1030307
This is a good example of the kind of cable you DON'T want:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10303&cs_id=1030307&p_id=8310&seq=1&format=2
Notice that it says 'charging' in the description. And, if you read their description, it contains this warning in bold, red font:
Note: This is a charging cable ONLY! It contains only the two power lines and does not contain data lines at all. Therefore it cannot serve as a sync or data cable and may not charge devices from low power sources, such as some Motorola phones, which require data lines to enable their charging mode.

Well... I finally got my hands on the correct cable, right out of the box of a new Bionic thanks to a cooperative store associate. But still no dice. I'm thinking at this point it's either the phone (more likely) or possibly my USB ports (though I've tried several different computers).
Looks like it might be time to return it and try again with a different phone.

i thought i had been losing my mind, because i have both moto SKN6378A and the verizon vcast branded SKN5004A USB cables and the verizon one wouldn't even mount the phone for USB storage. i realized eventually that the verizon cable was probably from my old Incredible (could also be ICS ROM being picky?). at any rate, its some what asinine that the more advanced these devices get the more unnecessary fragmentation there is..
is it possible that it is an issue with the phone and not the cables?

The same goes for me Tucknology. I have like 5 Different USB cables. Two of them are 8ft long. I have absolutely no issue with charging and syncing with my computers, laptops, HD dock, and Car dock. I purchased just standard micro USB cables. Got the two long ones from local Altex store, two others I have had from my last 2 phones(non-Motorola's), and the standard Motorola Micro USB one that came with my Droid Bionic.
Simplest thing is go to the Verizon store and buy a wall-charger--all the ones I've seen of late have a detachable USB cable. We probably have 4-5 of those now-useless chargers sans cable laying around the house now
OK I had a USB cable that Verizon sent me with my like new phone aka used and the USB cable is a data cable and will I can not root with it or any thing it will charge the and that's it my bro let me use his USB cable that came with his Droid 3 using the same computer and it works I can movie my stuff to the SD card but not with my data cable all I can do is charge my phone with it and the box says its a data cable so can you guys give me more info and yes the drivers are installed right because my bros cable works

Sounds like a somewhat faulty cable. I'd recommend just using a different one or take that one to a Verizon store and seeing if they'll swap it out for a new one.

I think the Moto cables are crossover data cables. This pin configuration would render normal cables as only power cables. It helps them make ONLY their cables work for data, so you buy theirs. **This is merely my theory as to why only Moto cables do data though. Switched pins on phone and crossed over wires.**
If someone has one that currently just charges it, and wouldn't mind maybe ruining it for the better of society , could you open it up and cross over the data wires?

My Kindle cable works fine with my Droid 3 for data and charging - I travel with only micro-USB cable, it's the Kindle cable, and that works. In fact, I just plugged in a cable from a WD Passport external hard disk - that also works fine.
I do suggest people to use the Moto cable if they are having trouble using others, but I have never had an issue using non-Moto cables with the D3 for anything, from charging to USB data connection to a computer.
Sounds like a bad cable. The data wires are more sensitive to physical issues than the Vcc and ground wires. I one had a cheap generic USB cable I was using and while it charged devices fine, it would cause Windows or the device to hang if i tried transferring data.
So I've googled this and see there's a lot of ideas behind what causes it but I Can't find a solid answer.
It doesn't do it when i have it plugged into the outlet on my desk. It has the samsung charge base and a motorola cable. But on the bedside I had an HTC base with the samsung cable (it's long) and it spazzes out.
I also got some cheap charger only able that came with my phone (used phone off of ebay the seller gave me the charger).
So I guess this leaves me to believe that there's something special about the MOTO cable?
I'd say you're very fortunate to have a cable that doesn't cause the problem. Mine has done that with every cable is used. Another person I know hasn't had the problem at all.
I would suggest trying to get your hands on a motorola charger, I've never had much luck using non-moto chargers with my Bionic
Definitely try a different cable. My Bionic and my wife's D4 had that problem with one particular charger in our house so we tossed the charger.

I've only ever had trouble with spazzing when my power AC to DC converter has an output amperage over 1A.
Unfortunately for me, the one that came with my Bionic had an output of 1.3A, so I was wicked confused for a while.
I subscribed to this topic when I skimmed by it a while back, to keep up if anything interesting popped up.
But I wanted to shoot a quick post. I've been having this problem forever with this phone (3 different bionics as well) using my supplied moto usb/ac adapter with other cables.
I saw a post mentioning to just try the supplied adapter and usb cable with it. I couldn't verify if I actually ever had the problem with both together.
Alas, the problem is here too..
I've read somewhere it's an internal grounding issue. I can't vouch for that statement, except of course that it is an issue.
I'll be back if anything ever changes

Hello. I recently got a mycharge amp2000 as shown in the photo. I have problems with it charging my moto x. When I plug it in it charges for a second then turns red an stops charging. Now normally this would be a problem with the charger but I have tried it with two other devices including my nexus 4 and it worked perfectly on those. That is why I am concerned it is a problem with my moto x. Any ideas?

Hmm...Strange. It could be just a problem with my portable charger that it is just not compatible with the Moto X's voltage or something weird like that...

I have the same exact problem. My wife and I both have the Verizon Moto X and we each have two external changers. These chargers work fine with our friends' phones and with our Nexus 7s, but they don't work with either of our Moto Xs. I don't seem to see much about this issue around the internet, maybe we just have rare bugs?
Strange. I've tried charging my Moto X in my car the other day and for some reason it refused to charge at all. I think it was because I wasn't using the OEM cable. I don't know but I'm curious if the charging port is just touchy on cables or that certain voltages aren't accepted by this phone.
P.S. My sister charges her phone in my car with the exact same cable almost every morning so there is no problem with it as far as I'm concerned.

One of my other usb cables won't charge the moto x but works fine with other phones, not sure why but it's a longer than normal cable so maybe that has something to do with it. In any case, my moto x charges just fine with the oem cable and a couple other cables I have laying around.

Thanks, I think you're right...just tried one of the externals with the OEM cable and now it's working. I wonder what the difference is, shouldn't a cable just be transferring the power from charger to device? I always thought a cable was a cable and it was the power supplies that differed. Either way, it's obnoxious to always have to carry around the long cord. On of the benefits of external chargers is compact portability.
Only complaint about the Moto X, otherwise this thing is great.
I've used my old HTC cables from the Thunderbolt, Motorola cables for the Xoom, LG cables from some LG phone, and Samsung cables from the S3 and Note 2. All of them work with the wall plug, computers, VZW car charger, and my Jackery charger.
What's the difference between the OEM and other cables? All I've used are OEM-labeled cables but have been looking at a 6ft cable (Monoprice, Amazon brand, Mediabridge or something braided/jacketed) off Amazon.
ive been using a motorola phone for a while now. Idk if it is moto specific or not, but some cables work and some don't. I know on my prior phone some cables would charge but not transfer data. Then some would say on my screen (not a compatible charger or not authorized charger or something). Those wouldn't charge most of the time, but sometimes if i turned the phone on then off or did certain weird things they would end up charging even though the not authorized prompt was still on the phone.
I think it probably has something to do with whether the cable can transfer data correctly for the moto phone. If it can't then it won't charge the phone. never had a problem with higher quality cables or cables that came from high quality phones. Only had problems with no brand name cables or older cables.
my two cents.
Alls I know is I've got a bunch of cables and wall plugs laying around and I just use whatever and it works. I've got cables and wall chargers from Samsung phones and tab, nexus tab, kobo, kindle, Motorola (old flip phone), iPhone (wall plug anyway), a Sony camera, Samsung camera, leapfrog tablet, a car diagnostic computer.....um ....that's all I can think of......and they all work and in any combination. Anyone find any good USB charging cables for their G Flex?
I've ordered and tried like over 15 now and none really work like the OEM USB cable... either they give me a slow charger, they fall out of the phone's USB connector, or they won't charge at all.
I've tried like different ones from Monoprice, Fosmon ones, and 2 different ones form BB.
I know its the cables because when I use my OEM LG cable with an old HTC charger it works just fine.
I ordered this 6ft BB Playbook charger over the weekend: http://www.amazon.com/Blackberry-Folding-Blade-Charger-Playbook/dp/B004OZMWUS/ because I've heard people having good results with it. I'll post a review when I get it. Fingers crossed.

Hi
I can only recommend this special low-resistance charging cable from PortaPow.

I got one of the 2.5 meters version and the charging speed is still awesome with this cable! Its perfect for the bedroom.

You can buy lg oem usb cable on Amazon. Try search for the cable under different lg phone model. I bought a few pairs for $ 3 each. It don't have necessary said for flex since many other lg phone use the same type of cable.

I give the BB Playbook Blade charger a C+ for charing the G Flex but a A+ for charging any other Android device.
It charges the G Flex really super fast... prob the fastest out of all the chargers I've tried from what Battery Monitor Widget tells me BUT like all the other USB cables I've tried the connection isn't secure and iif I move or even just do the knock-knock code the cable slips out of the socket.
I did order 2 more off eBay for charging my other android devices... the 6+ ft cord is really useful. Just wish it would fit the G Flex micro USB socket.

the only time I dont is when I plug it into a standard wall charger,it will rapid charge then
