[Q] obtain root without unlocking - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need to root my phone without unlocking bootloader. I have read about motochopper being able to do that, but cant find any post about how to do it on Htc One. I know revone uses it to gain root acccess... can anyone please help with this. thanks.

at&t. I cannot unlock bootloader. I need root access so i can fix that. thats why i am asking if i can do it with motochopper like revone does... I just cant find anything that uses motochopper for rooting. closest i got is revone which uses it internally and doesnt install superuser files.

Hi I have the same question,
I would only need root access to get rid of flip board and some useless apps (at least for me). I bought my HTC carrier free (with unlocked sim).
Cheers

No, known methods of rooting without unlocking don't work on the one. I tried motochopper and srsroot.

don't see a problem going with htcdev. its safer. but even if you use another program, the "bootloader" will still show (tampered). there's a few tutorials how to removed this but not sure if available M8 mini

[Q] Sprint HTC M8 (4.4.4) Root?

Alright, so a friend came to me with an M8. It appears to be fully updated and is running 4.4.4 android. I was able to unlock the bootloader, and I have TWRP installed. However, every time I flash Superuser.zip, it says it works but does nothing. So, since I see lots of roms, I guess its possible to have root, but how to I obtain it? Been working on this for an hour and a half and cannot find a logical way that works.
First off to help @BD619 this thread needs to be posted in the Q&A section which is set there to prevent this post. Secondly, s-on or s-off? Did you try installing a rom with Root preinstalled? Did you try root checker from play store to verify root was installed?
Sorry!
Just mis posted. My bad.
S-On. Cannot seem to get S-Off either. Mainly just trying to sim unlock it and what I have found says that requires s-off which requires root. Lost. Not at all like my old S3 or EVO 4G. LOL! Those rooted no issue.

Sunshine s off is the best bet to s-off. Download their app, and from what it sounds, you are pretty close to stock anyways! You will most definately need to do more research on the sim unlock, thats a subject i never mess with. Good luck!!!
Well I am doing this for a friend and I am not spending any money. If anyone knows of at least a root, that gets me further.

XT1058 and root

I have a stock xt1058 (ATT Moto X 2013) and need to root it, without wiping what is there already and ideally also to be in a position where I can unroot pretty quickly. I have no need to unlock the bootloader (unless required) and simply am looking for temporary root access. What is the best way to achieve this?
EDIT: The current Android Version is 4.4.4
See the one stop root thread in general for root methods.
But quick answer.... No, sorry.
No to which part exactly?
Did you read the one stop root thread? Your answer is there.
Again though, there is no way to root 4.4.4, fully or temporarily, without an unlocked bootloader.
And on your device, there's no current way to unlock your bootloader. You can try Sunshine app (Google it for their site). It costs $25, but usually will not work on 4.4.4. You can try it without paying. It will give you an error before you ever need to pay.

[Q] Pre-root HTC One M7?

Hello,
So I made a thread earlier about my Verizon HTC One M7 on 5.0.2 asking if I was able to root it.
Y'all basically said I need to use Sunshine S-Off to unlock my bootloader so I can root. So I downloaded the Sunshine-latest.apk file and it says I need to "Pre-root" before I can use it. I'm confused. The app that's going to root my phone needs root to work? That doesn't make sense. I now understand that S-off is needed for roms, but I don't want roms. I just want root apps. I'm still confused on why S-off is necessary for root, and apparently root is needed for Sunshine S-off.
Anyways, does anyone know how I can pre-root (Temp root?) my phone so I can use Sunshine? And what do I do after I get S-off to root my phone? Is there anyway I can root without S-off? I just want root access no roms.
Thanks for all those willing to help. Sorry I sound like such a noob (I am)

Yes I remember but don't understand why you created a new thread again for the same issue... Your previous thread is only 3 days old.

Right because Verizon asked HTC to block their phones from being unlocked the normal way using htcdev.com website so they can have more control over their customers. With S-OFF you or sunshine can directly write to the PG1FS partition to unlock the bootloader without the need to use the unlock code generated by htcdev.com

Sunshine need at least temp root to work. Achieve temp root, use sunshine to s-off and unlock, flash a custom recovery and then using your recovery you can root for good (permanent root).

Not really but that doesn't matter for now, you can read about what s-off really do later if you are interested. Flashing roms doesn't require s-off, its only requires and unlocked bootloader but yes since your phone is Verizon you need s-off if you want to flash a rom because its the only way to unlock the bootloader. On other variant of the M7, you can unlock the bootloader from htcdev.com so s-off is not needed to flash roms. I know its confusing...
