Really (I mean *really*!) bricked my phone. Nothing works. - LG Optimus Black

Hi p970ies,
EDIT: NEW problems, see last pages.
here is my story:
I was on IZS v1.1, when I decided to go into recovery and make a full-wipe for having a "fresh install" again. You know, the phone was laggy, I had to many apps etc. I pressed the on/off-button for 1-2 secs to reboot into recovery, then my phone turned off and restarted but just with a "bright" black screen, the display was on. I thought "something went wrong", pulled the battery out and put it back in again, started, but then same screen again.
A few months ago an easy "unbricking" method (I know, not really unbricking) was to flash Redy2006's touch-recovery and boot into it with his scripts. So I flashed it (I know it's dumb, because of the u-boot and v30 thing, Idk), same result.
After that, I grabbed smartflash and two .bin/.fls packs of 2 roms, went into that special mode (phone off, press vol+, plug in) but there was no "sign" (screen that shows that you are in that mode) like the other day, the screen kept being black, but on.
Nonetheless the flashing worked and the software said everything alright. I started the phone but same result, in addition that there was now this effect: When the battery is put in and/or the phone is charging, the screen changes from being on and off. I can't do anything, no restarting with buttons, no LG screen, nothing but on and off, on and off. Every few seconds.
Thank you, I hope you experts can help me. (Even when I have the phone 2 years now and I was a ROM-junkie since the first day )
Edit: Tried smartflash with another patched v20 ROM. Tried KDZ Updater, just errors. But now the phone seems to boot, but there's nothing on the display, just the 4 softkeys are fading in and out.

Oh man, its sad to hear that.
I can just think on two situations.
One is a broken screen, but thats pretty obvious.
And the other is a broken boot partition. Its very strange that you cant get into software upgrade mode. You sure you removed SIM, battery and SD, and then plugged it to the cable while holding the volume buttons?
I dont doubt you did it well, just making sure. Anyways AFAIK you should be able to enter that mode unless you got a broken boot partition.
Best of luck, sorry Im not of much help.

Hi, thank you for your answer.
Yesterday oder so, I connected my phone without SIM, SD and battery while pressing vol+ to my pc and it showed the S/W-Update "Wait while update is in progress" or something. I was happy because the display isn't broken. But then I flashed again and the display is as black as before...
I thought about a broken bootloader. Do you guys know a way to fix it? Or the boot partition?

Im pretty sure that if you can see the software update mode, you can unbrick the device.
When you said you reflashed something, do you actually mean that you smartflashed the fls and bin files from a stock v20 rom? AFAIK the bin file carries a bootloader with it so it should get fixed if your problem is the bootloader.
And by the way, while the phone has that black screen and is stuck booting... Are you able to use adb commands? You could try to jump to the recovery with "adb reboot recovery" to see if you got a working recovery.
Best of luck, tell me how it goes

yep, I tried every version (10, 20, 30) in bin/fls and kdz. But I never got the screen to show something again.
And no, I can't use adb commands, sadly. It says "cannot find device" or something like that.

Huhmmm... Quite strange.
You can try to open up device manager, look for the phone (will probably have no drivers and the icon will have a yellow triangle) and force installing adb drivers. After that you are supposed to use adb even in middle of a boot.
I'd say that your best chance is to get to your recovery, so you can wipe everything (even formatting system) and start from scratch...
Anyways Im no expert at all... Just trying to help.

Sometimes ADB works, but it says "device offline". When I flashed PRE-IZS fls/bin from the spanish forum, and then V30B bin/fls, something really weird happens: The phone is on, the wake-button works well - it turns on and turns off the display and the softkeys. But the screen doesn't show anything - just black.

Hello there!
Did You try out the B2C tool provided by LG? And there is one other tool provided by LG. Just try these oit. If they dont work, then try claiming it under warranty. They might replace the motherboard.
P.S: If You have the money, sell this piece of **** and get a Sony or Samsung. Cheers!

Oh and yes, phone is older than 2 years and in Germany we only have 2 years of warranty I think.

An easy, possible fix for The Device offline is to use the latest ADB. Just use the attached zip anywhere and use ADB, its the latest version from the android SDK, but just the files required for ADB. My nexus 4 had the same problem, but Solved it by updating ADB.

did you try patched bins ? (for being able to boot into recovery right after the flash process, maybe you just need right wipes)

Yes, I did, but Smartflash works "less" than the KDZ-Updater. Actually the phone beeped today while it was on (with some kdz flashed) :silly:
Is it possible to convert patched bin/fls files to kdz?

I don't know, probably not... what I can say is that kdzu doesn't perform full wipes since it's intended to update the system and keep datas at the same time. You probably need wipes...

Oh ok... But with KDZ-Updater, it's possible to turn the phone off and on (screens is "on" but shows the color black while the softkeys are on too).
I'll try again with Smartflash... Do you know another version of it or a good tutorial? Maybe I've done the wrong method or something...

there are several tuts in this forum. smartflash is the quickest and safest way to restore / unbrick as it erases everything in the internal memory

Man, nothing works... After smartflashing display flashing off and on again, after kdz display on, softkeys flashing

ADB side service is not active while in S/W mode. The only chance to access to recovery is to boot normally, and access to the device via ADB. The problems are : device needs to pass initial boot process for being able to be detected by ADB (even if you don't see the desktop it's ok), and USB debug must be enabled by default...
so, if you can't pass initial boot process, no chance to use ADB, and, if it passes, usb debug must be enabled or device will remain offline...

Is there a chance to enable it manually?

the only chance is to flash a ROM which have it enabled by default for the most of them.
mine died because of the new twrp 2.6. It has definitively corrupted the boot partition as even smartflash can't ends its process. I had to buy another device...

Made it through the first few steps well, until i finally began to upgrade the image dreaimg or w,e.. It failed on me & now i cannot leave the screen. I remove the battery & turn it on. but when i do it stays in the same spot.. I tried everything & need some help.. ]:
Here is a pic of the screen.. : http://img683.imageshack.us/img683/4355/picture001bk.jpg
Did it start updating, then stop in the middle of it? Did the phone turn off due to running out of battery during the flash? Did you format your card to FAT32, download the proper RC for the original sale location of your phone?
Try pulling the battery at, then removing your SD card, do a long format to FAT32 (whether it is or not) copy the dreamimg.nbh onto the SD card, put the SD card back in the phone, put the battery back in, put it on a charger not turned on for 30 minutes, then take it off the charger...
Now that you have done all that, try booting into boot loader again by holding down the camera and power button until it goes into that screen again and does it's thing.
If this doesn't work, well, good luck since I have no idea from there.
Yes i've tried all of that.. Once i remove my battery it turns on, but as soon as i put it on again it turns on & the same screen appears.. There nothing i can do to go back to the Home screen.. D':
I most likely made a mistake but now i cannot fix this! ]:

That screen is the only thing that ever appears on my phone.. ]:I cant take that screen away like i want too.. So it appears instead of the G1 screen..
If that is the only screen that ever shows up, you very well may be bricked, I hate to say it.
It really sounds like during your flashing of the .nbh file it was disrupted for one reason or another, either the battery died or it was a corrupted file, so the only file left on the phone is the boot loader. Thus, it is the only thing that will show...
Of course, I am not 100% positive without knowing exactly what you did, not being able to mess with the phone myself, and so forth.
Some people have been able to bring phones back from the dead by getting lucky and being able to get ADB to work... try plugging the phone into your computer using a data cable and see if you can get any sort of ADB to work, perhaps seeing if you can get the stock HTC update program to recognize the phone and hopefully flash it into working.

Agreed.
You should read up tutorials on ADB and see if you can use ADB to access your phone. If you can, your phone can still be recovered.
If not - then yeah, brick.

Force Reboot Recovery/Download

Is there a file in the android system that, sort of like an autoexec.bat, lists what to do on startup? For example forcing the system into recovery or download on power on?
I flashed the latest Vibrant firmware and did so with the option to repartition, which Im now finding out was not the right way to flash this one.
Long story short, it didnt contain the dbdata directory information and now, I am unable to boot and unable to get to download. I still have ADB access, it just isnt responding to ADB reboot download, it just comes right back up booting into recovery to flash the last stage of odin before it starts up.
Is there a way to force the phone back into download mode or force it to stop rebooting into recovery?
Pull battery out and USB to use the hardware buttons to manually get into download mode?
P.S. wrong forum
Aren't there some apps that can do that? I do it manually but like you said its not working for you, p.s im downloading that firmware

Manual buttons arent seemingly working, so far ive tried every conceivable combination of vol up down and power, even if all I do is plug the phone in Im back in recovery before the battery turns green.
(ps. I know, but I had a billion percent better chance not getting a mouthbreather response, despite the definite chance of flame posts lol)

Have you successfully gotten into Download mode with hardware buttons before? Or are you one of those vibrants with "locked download?"
I have a feeling mines locked, Ive never used the buttons to successfully get into download mode, just adb reboot download
EDIT: Tried the posts suggestions, problem is second I plug in the USB and the battery pops up it goes right to recovery. Even if im holding the buttons before hand.

I was working with that a bit, but it just kept getting to datadata and being unable to wipe or flash to it due to the odin botch. I tried wiping it clean and it just wouldnt let me do that to reflash.

This smells like 130 bucks for a new phone I think... brick number two >.>

I didnt! But when I was formatting and it failed to reapply the nandroid completely cause of the section it couldnt mount, now when I hit reinstall packages it just reboots. Same with shell, it just yells at me and tells me to die in a fire.
if you didnt figure this out, the way to fix it is to first flash WITH ODIN the original JVD firmware and check repartition, then flash the new one IN ODIN without the repartition box checked.
first update includes the dbdata that the phone is looking for.
Yeah, I figured it out now, but Odin is seriously the devil if your phone doesnt have the hardware buttons enabled.
Now heres a question, if I can still get into stock recovery... is there a way to like, you know, recover using the stock system? lol
BUT THE GOOD NEWS IS that Tmo is letting me warranty out my phone for free, shipping me a new one, and gave me a loner while I wait.
TMo for the win.

lol looks like you and I are in the same boat man. Hardware lock FTMFL. I have never been able to get into download mode, or recovery mode with the hardware keys, only with adb reboot recovery/download and terminal emulator app with SU privs. I wish there was a jumper we could reset to unlock it haha that'd be the s*# son. Good old pentium 133 in the palm of the hands, but no . Atleast they are taking care of the people who don't do things properly.
I did the same thing and ended up with the same problem, but i was able to get in into download mode. When i would plug it in it would try to boot into recovery after the battery screen i would use the keys to make it boot to download mode instead of recovery, it was a *****, but i got it, though idk if there is another way for people with locked down phones.

[Q] boot loop maybe

Hi
I think* i was trying to do a back up or custom recovery just before it went pear shaped, phone froze and i took the battery out and then ->
The phone doesn't get past boot image ( custom boot image of terminators from the movie ).
I have tried factory reset , trying different roms on sd card and then booting into recovery - but i only had the default recovery on the phone.
I have a kdz file image and a few dz files as well as zip but they don't 'work' , even if i rename them 'update'
The lg support tool gets to a point where it says ' super duper bad , your fxxxxd or fatal error or something so it wont even start a fix or update.
'Unkdzing' only gives me a dz file and .dll
I tried uptestEX ,dzextract, lgflashmuncher, expand, lgextract and extractor kdz - but on that it stops with some WMD warning - in spanish i think.
This is the 5th day ive tried to fix the prob but i fail.
After I un screw the phone can it be flashed/shocked with electricity on the part that holds the info ? ( thought id ask before going ahead and doing it anyways )
The phone is rooted
try this

I tried and it didn't work
What should the screen look like when its plugged in and turned on ? , I did the vol + power key and its statiky* and sometimes vibrates. So i tried vol - and power, vol + and home and power, vol - and home and power but total commander still didn't see the phone connected to it.
I extracted adb to total commander and i click on it when total commander is open then I have to click connect to device then a box pops up and i input COM4 ( matched it up with device manager ) but nothing happens.
The only 'normal' screen is when it is in sw update mode, other than that its either grey or pink or white and vibrates at times with all sometimes.
Ok I tried vol + and power with the battery in and when i click on adb the device ID is shown but when i click on that, its totally empty.. no folders or files , completely blank.
Also next to the network 3 pc image it still says [none]
When i try to copy the new busybox to the device id it says 'please remove the write protection'.. so I right click the busybox file and click unblock but same message again
It has full permissions.
you need to keep hold of the keys until it starts up.it will vibrate and screen will go blank about 2 times before it boots into the correct mode, sorry i didnt think of writing that into my other post

I went to LG site and got the driver but it didn't install, even found generic driver but it didn't install, also let windows find one but it didn't install, also tried manually but android driver just wont install.
My understanding is without that android driver total command won't work.
hi sorry to hear your still having problems, all i can suggest is uninstall the drivers and reinstall without the device connected, also are you leaving it til it comes to the screen has a window with a phone and and cables with a red hand covering them,
the driver that you really need it too load is the called Android Sooner single ADB Interface, as far as im aware that when booting into this mode it doesnt load your currently corrupted system files maybe after you retry installing it should hopefully work also if you havent already installed the lg support tool then it would be easier for you to install that and install the drivers that way, they can be found through the following link
http://www.lg.com/uk/support/mobile-support
il have a good think and look at what could be the problem if you are still having problems
yeah I have that driver and two others, nothing is working unfortunately

[Q] Rooted my LG p880, and now it won't start

Hi!
I just rooted my brand new LG optimus 4x HD, and when I was going to install cyanogenmod on it, the phone stopped working. I pressed to restart in recovery and installing the rom, but when it was about to restart, it only says something like: unrecoverable boot loader, and something with kernel. I don't know what this means, but I hope there is a way to fix this, because the phone is brand new, and now I can't even start it.
Some suggestions?

Just flash original stock KDZ file with kdz flasher.
If you want to install CM, you do not need a rooted phone, but an unlocked bootloader.
Check the respective threads for details on how to unlock the phone and then flash CM.

ok, i'll try that in a couple of hours when I get home, Thanks everyone! I'll be back if there is another problem
in the lg pc suite that comes with the phone there is an option in "Device" for "emergency firmware recovery" this should be a relatively easy way to restore your phone if it allows you to do it without booting up otherwise use the method posted earlier. to get into the correct mode on the phone turn phone off, then whilst holding vol- plug in the usb (don't press power button) this should enter software upgrade mode.
after this you will lose root and if you unlocked your bootloader will relock it.
i used this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2256392 all in one tool to root and this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40918727&postcount=108 to unlock bootloader, you can use the all in one tool (from rooting) to install cwm after you have unlocked bootloader.
I hope this helps

I tried to root via the all-in-one toolbox, but I don't get how I am supposed to do... And after trying to do some things and factory resets, I'm unable to start my phone again. This time i'm stuck on bootscreen. And I can't seem to get to the S/W Upgrade screen again, i don't know why...
Is there something i can do with ADB sideload?

to get into S/W upgrade mode, remove battery, insert battery, hold the vol-, and plug in a usb attached to a computer (keep holding vol-).
hope this helps. also try a different pc usb port or a different cable (just to eliminate any variables)

Good to see you ok. CWM needs unlocked bootloader not just root.

I don't know why didn't you understand my words but glad that you are running well now. For CWM or a custom rom, you need unlocked the bootloader not root.
I've managed to fix it now, I don't know how, but it worked thanks everyone for the help, running cm10.1 now
Is there anyway i can dowbload lg+ tag and quick memo? It isnt included in the rom :/
No, but I did a factory reset and flashed the rom, and then the stock apps werent included

Hi astr_x,
Do you have any example links for the respective threads you mention? I have tried adb and fastboot. I hold Volume down + plug into my computer and I get the Unrecoverable bootloader error that was mentioned above. In fact, I get this error even when I plug my phone to a normal plug (and not PC). Anyway, I connect my phone to my laptop (I always get the error mentioned) and when I type the relative adb+fastboot command in cmd (after installing all the relative drivers), I get "Error: Unknown device".
Any thoughts?

[SOLVED] I'm possibly bricked.

Okay, so, I know it's possible to fix this, it has to be. And let me explain why I can conclude this.
1.) I can access Philz recovery but ONLY when forcing the phone to hard reset via buttons.
2.) The touchscreen works in the recovery when resetting but doesn't go to the main menu or anything to restore a backup.
3.) The phone will recognize adb commands from the computer, but since the touches don't work when booted I cannot select the "allow this computer" prompt.
4.) The phone boots into the CM11 ROM and the buttons work (I can change volume, take screenshots, and access power menu.)
So, I'll explain what happened. I tested a boot.img for Quarx and flashed it. I didn't reboot my phone, just let it stay on. It worked and everything, but a little bit after church it rebooted on me and showed the CM setup menu. I was like, "What? Okay..." So I was going trying to make it work, but I realized the touchscreen wouldn't respond to my touches. I locked/unlocked the screen, rebooted, all that good stuff, and none of it worked. So, here's the damage done.
1.) I can't touch anything on the screen. It won't respond to touches.
2.) I cannot access recovery, only hard reset.
3.) I cannot approve adb commands because I need to hit "allow" on the screen. (The prompt does come up though)
So, I have a phone that boots, responds to hardware actions, and can recognize adb commands, but won't accept them unless I say "allow." I can access recovery but only when factory resetting through holding Power + VOL DOWN when booting. The touchscreen works in recovery, but it won't do any actions (back, home, etc.) because it's resetting. After resetting it boots instantly, and voila, my problem remains.
So in short, I need a way to bypass that "authentication" for adb, because in order for fastboot to recognize my device I need to run adb commands to set it up (since that's gone too now). That, or, I need to find a way to access Philz recovery without having to use the touchscreen. It's so frustrating because the one button I need to press is literally right in front of my face, on my screen, but it won't respond to my input.
Does anybody here have any suggestions? I haven't been able to flash a KDZ successfully, I don't know why. It never works for me on this phone. I was a pro at it on the L9. School begins in a week and I need to have a phone that works, for transportation and such. I'm not really at a point to buy a phone right now either since I'm focusing on buying my first car (yay I guess).
If anyone can help I'd really appreciate it. In fact, I'm even willing to donate money to whomever can point me in the right direction.

@Ilxaot
are able to use philz??? fully...means is touch working on philz???
if yes then
you can put aroma file manager there...and in root of it in default.prop
change the lines
ro.adb.secure=1
ro.secure=1
to
ro.adb.secure=0
ro.secure=0
and reboot
now you have adb access without any confirmation required....
this is possible only if philz is working...
best luck...
and remove every possible LG driver from your pc
then reboot
connect to the internet
dont install drivers manually
let windows find the drivers if it doesnt find one.
then just reboot
after rebooting install drivers manually.
this works form me everytime.

The only way I can boot into Philz is when it's factory resetting. When it's resetting, it shows the recovery and everything, but it's just resetting. There are no options to flash anything and such. It just resets and reboots.
EDIT - If I could get a KDZ to flash, I'd be set. When I connect my phone in laf mode (s/w mode) my computer doesn't recognize it. It says it's an unknown USB device, and shows a warning symbol next to it in the device manager. If I could get that fixed, I might be able to flash!
The recovery you use was not ok
Its gave me same problem when i try it,thank God i can enter download mode to flash KDZ and back to TWRP.
But what that is amazing me about your is that its cant do what other D415 does why? did your own D415 is special.
Also another thing is USB debugging,If you using CM11 by Quartz it was enable by default in that rom

Yes but I still need to accept the prompt asking if I want to allow the computer to access the phone, which I cannot do because the screen does not respond.
How did you manage to flash the KDZ? I know it will be fixed if I can flash it, but I'm not having any luck flashing it! It keeps saying that the device is unknown, even though I've installed and uninstalled the drivers countless times.

I got my computer to recognize it, now I just need it to flash it lol..
