Google Keyboard Themes - Android Themes

Google Keyboard Themes
If you use the stock Android keyboard, which is also available in the Play Store, you can change the look and feel of the keyboard. Google Keyboard has a few themes you can choose, but they're not available in the settings.
Here's a quick way to pick a different theme, assuming your device runs Android 4.0 or later:
1. you first need an application that lets you create shortcuts to app activities. Some apps that let you do that: Nova Launcher and Apex Launcher, probably the best Android launchers. The following instructions assume you've installed Nova Launcher or Apex Launcher, but you can also use simple apps like Activity Getter.
2. long press the homescreen and pick "shortcuts" and then "activities".
3. scroll to the Google Keyboard entry, expand the list of activities and pick "Android keyboard debug settings".
4. you'll create a shortcut for this activity. Tap the new shortcut and you should see this settings page:
5. tap "Keyboard theme" and pick one of the themes: Basic, Basic (High Contrast), Stone (normal), Stone (bold), Gingerbread. IceCreamSandwich is the default theme.
6. use the shortcut you've created to change the theme.

The last one should be with the "Ice Cream Sandwich" setting.
The reason why it's black is most definitely a Theme applied through theme manager or
the rom is already themed.

Yes that's what I thought just wanted to be sure since the ROM I am running does not have a theme manager and I am trying to get my keyboard like that

[Q] Motoblur Dock

I have a Motorola Defy, but I'm using a different, non-official ROM, that comes with Launcher Pro. My question is, if I can switch my dock to the Motoblur dock, since I really like it.
Thanks for your answers.
Can't be done. The dock is tied to the launcher app, therefore you must use Motorola's launcher app, not launcherpro.
Also please post in the suitable section next time. This is a subforum for themes

Thanks for the answer, and sorry for posting here..
If your using Launcher Pro you can just get a dock that looks like motoblur and apply it in the preferences.
I would check out HELauncher. When installed, press menu, and click customize. Navigate to Blur or Ninja (not sure which runs on the Defy) and press Apply. The motoblur style is from the newer versions, not like the Devour and Cliq.

Yeah but the problem is, that in Launcher Pro you can only use their own icon for the app drawer..
I'll try the HeLauncher, thanks
Edit: Nevermind, I succeeded doing that with Launcher Pro, I took the dock that lesa gave me (thanks lesa) and in the 2 right spots I put contacts applications with a 72x72 icon that I made, that is actually nothing, a png file so you cant even see it, same with the 2 left ones and the middle
Thanks!

Terranalon, please, write in few words how did you succeed with this dockbar in LauncherPro :good:

Honeycomb Style

Hi,
is it possible to get the Honeycomb-Style (Theme, Icons) without root?
Or is it neccessary to root the phone and use CM?
EDIT:
I found the "Go Launcher EX" with "Honeycomb" but I don't like the other features like switching the homescreens.
Try honeybread for the cm7 theme chooser:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=943423
Ah okay.
So rooting my Nexus S is necessary.
There is also a honeycomb theme for launcher pro plus (don't need root for that)

To change the status bar, etc. you need root, you can either use a .zip and flash the theme, or use a ROM which supports the themechooser. This isn't required though as you can create your own theme easily via UOT Kitchen.
My suggestion is:
1. Root your phone.
2. Install either Oxygen or CM7, both includes the themechooser.
3. Download and apply Honeybread HDPI Theme.
4. Enjoy.
This way you won't have to mess with the kitchen or anything, and you'll have the Honeycomb style you're after.
Hope it helps
Thanks for the fast replies!
I think I will root my phone today
Great.
It works.
Thanks!
EDIT:
And this works, too.

Not sure what you are asking... you hold down on the home screen and select to choose a widget.
Well, that's the usual way to place a widget.
But my installed widgets aren't listed. There are always only the standard ones.

Best Launcher for Nook STR?

Hello there,
what is the best launcher for the nook?
I see that Go Launcher is installed automatically with touchnooter, why that one and not another one?
What do you use, why and how did you configured it?
I'm afraid of all the flashes that i saw on some youtube videos...
I like adw launcher since it lets me set a "white" background for my minimalist black adw icon pack.
You can also change the dockbar background to a pure black by installing the honeycomb theme for adw and selecting.that theme from the adw themes in ADWSettings.
Sent from my NookColor using xda premium
Could you please give us your icon pack? Is it possible in ADW Launcher to set to black the text under the icons (in the app drawer)?
With ADW Launcher you mean the free one or the EX version?
I used to use ADW Launcher for its layout and the "Colors" wallpaper from the Market to add a white background. But recently my new favorite is Relaunch. It's a launcher+file browser made specifically for the nook. It doesn't do widgets, but it has a lot of other features I find useful, such as battery display, wireless toggle, task killer, search, recent files, etc. I'm not a fan of the nook Library (vs. my old Sony reader), so I decided to organize my books in folders with Calibre and use Relaunch both to start apps and open books.
seems like relaunch is great, i should consider that instead of standard launchers

Do you mind posting a link to it? I did a quick search and couldn't find it.
I can't post links yet (I'm a noob -- I hate myself! ), but you can search Google for "Relaunch nook" and follow the link from the nookDevs result.
One handy thing it can do that I haven't seen any other launcher do is map itself to the nook's "Home" button on the Quicknav. Handy for 1.1.0 since NookTouchTools isn't working yet.
Thanks, from what I've played around with so far, this is my favorite launcher yet.

Relaunch's UI is rather spartan, yes. I think it's an either love-it-or-hate-it sort of program.

Any hint on how to find a 2.1 compatible version?
I found a nice one! ADW Launcher (yes, we know) but... add on the Minimalist Black theme from the Market. Black apps and labels on white. This is perfect for the nook screen and with some settings tweaking, you can make all apps fit in one screen. If you want, download "Colors" to use a pure white background for the desktop.
I also found that File Expert is a decent file manager and its default theme is white. The fonts are a little washed out, though, so I tweaked them a bit and it's a nice black-on-white. Most other file managers I've found use annoying graphical backgrounds.
Just did that yesterday installing also a copy of minimalistic text 2.6.2 that I had on a eclair defy, it suits eink perfectly.

Hehe, I was wondering when that combo would show up again.
I was advertising for it back when I first got my NST but nobody seemed to care.
Tho I no longer use it, imho it's the best launcher setup for the NST available atm

ADW sold out to google?

Hi, just updated my paid for adw ex and, shock/horror, the ugly google search bar (which i never use) was back on on my desktop.
oh, i remember why i got adw launcher, just drag it to to bin.
er... its not moving, its not moving.
oh, wait a minute, whats the symbol on the end of the serach bar.
well, well, its adw settings.
i will try to recover the previous version of adw unless someone has an easy answer
(just checked on android market reviews and it seems i am not alone)
Isn't there the search widget and a option to for the resistant search bar, based on portrait/landscape?
It is called "Actionbar" and can be disabled.
ADW Settings -> "Screen setting" (or something similar, using it in German where it is called " Bildschirm-Einstellungen") -> Actionbar Design
OK, thanks chris_82. I am back on previous version now. There was also an ugly blue outline when changing screens and a thick white line on my clear dock icons. Also it was "slaggy"
I'll be steering clear of this for now

So is there a way to change the ugly blue outline added to the screen transitions? I've tried themes and none seem to change this. My phone is not blue and these transition outlines clash horribly.

HTC SENSE 8 BETA (LAUNCHER) - Working on Moto G 2015

Htc launched a Beta program recently for testing HTC SENSE 8 launcher for NON HTC Devices.
Someone from the beta program uploaded the apk file on apkmirror and luckily it works with our Moto G 2015 (it should work with all non HTC devices above kitkat)
Although it is in beta, it is really smooth and pretty stable.
Bugs(That I found) : Google Now on Tap Force Closes Htc Sense Launcher. Google now on tap can be used from any other app.
Status: Working on Stock optimised and Stock ROM. (Should work with other custom ROMS as well)
If it shows any error in installation:
==> check if unknown sources option is on in settings > security
==> go to Apps > All Apps > select Google Play Services > Clear Cache (And make sure you are on the latest
Google Play Services)
==> go to Apps > All Apps > select Google Play Store > Clear Cache and Force Stop
==> Make sure no other HTC application(HTC Sense 7 apps and widgets) is installed prior to this installation.
Icon Packs from playstore work perfectly. (REQUIRES ROOT)
Go to Themes app and then sign in to your htc account. If not made an account then sign up for a new account
apply any icon pack from the htc theme store.
then select the Icons.apk of your desired icon pack (Links Below) and copy it to : /data/data/com.htc.launcher/files/.htc_theme/
Replace existing Icons.apk if asked.
Go to settings > Apps > Htc Sense > force stop.
the icon packs will be applied.
I am providing icon packs(free) from playstore which are modified to work with htc sense launcher.
If you want to convert any other icon pack to make it compatible with sense launcher then below is the icon pack converter made by @BBs19 all credit goes to him/her.
Iconpack to Sense 7 Converter
How to use:
1. Download the .apk file of your iconpack. (You can use http://apk-dl.com/ if the iconpack is free)
2. Run IconPackConverter.exe
3. Select your .apk file.
4. Wait for the process to complete. You can see the current status on the top left corner of your screen.
After successfully converting your icon pack, you can follow the displayed instructions to apply the iconpack.
Requirements:
- Java 7 (JRE 1.7)
- Root (for applying the iconpack on your phone)
#How to Apply iconpacks [Root Required]#
1. Copy the converted Icons.apk to: /data/data/com.htc.launcher/files/.htc_theme/
Replace existing Icons.apk if asked.
2. Restart Sense Launcher process or reboot phone.

Hmm, I tried it also (it's on APKMirror). IMHO nothing special.
And BTW most of the themes in the HTC theme store are stolen. Since HTC does nothing against it, I wouldn't support that anyway.

well I'm not saying to apply the themes from htc store, one can create his/her own theme. the icon packs provided are also freely available on playstore. And liking the launcher or not is just personal preference. For me this is miles better than nova, apex, touchwiz, google now etc. there are people like me who like it a lot so I posted this for them. The freestyle theming capabilities are amazing and the launcher itself is rock solid.
And I posted the APKmirror link with mentioning them
I am all for options, but the strength of Sense on an HTC device was how well integrated it was with other apps and widgets from HTC, since those are not part of this, this is just another generic launcher that falls well behind Nova, Apex, Smart, etc.

Blinkfeed and weather widget is inbuilt, and well implemented.
I personally like pixel sharp images/display output, unfortunately moto G 2015 does not have such great pixel density, the other launchers render the icons very badly, Nova is the worst even GNL is mediocre .... HTC sense launcher has the best, sharp pixel rendering of the icons at least on the 720p displays... added bonus is the playstore icon packs with little modification and root. Launch animations are quick and overall the launcher is pretty stable.

I'm not going to argue with you as this is all opinion based... I was an HTC fanboy for a long time, and a fan of Sense, but I will leave it with HTC products. Nova is arguably the best launcher out there, and that isn't just my opinion, 10 million plus downloads and over 1 million paid (Prime) users would probably argue with you as well.
Again, Android's strength is in options and customizations, so I welcome it just probably won't use it.

you are getting me all wrong here, I'm not intending to start an argument with anyone, nor am I arguing. I was just expressing my opinion that is why I started my post with "I" . I said "I" don't like how icons are rendered in NOVA, that being the only reason I hate Nova and it is "My" opinion. Never did I mention that everyone likes HTC or everyone should like HTC ..... maybe I posted the thread in wrong forum title, maybe non of the moto G 2015 users likes Htc and maybe I should have posted this under general android as I didn't find any thread on this topic. But what I can say is people like sense home as well and the proof of this is the development thread by xpirt who ported htc sense 6 & 7 and is in the process of porting sense 8. I got excited and thought it might be useful to someone
What I don't understand is I just shared a launcher apk file, and the process on how to install and if any error occurs how to solve that. Why am I getting "slightly" negative feedback and opinions that this launcher is "meh" and others are better? I acknowledge there are better launchers and this is a personal preference. I did not create the launcher, I just liked it and thought it might be useful to someone. That's it. So much for my first thread other than Q&A..........
Pretty sure your thread is safe...
More options is good, period, because everyone has different taste, wants, and needs... And although I hope people value my opinion, I hope they don't take it as gospel and they try it themselves and make their own decisions.
More people should branch out and try things and share them with the community, I commend you for that. Thanks for sharing.
