I tried 8.1 briefly but un-installed until proper release however I remember @baadnewz tweeting a few days ago that he had got fastboot working. If you are not familiar, you will find baadnewz's rom in the developer section so perhaps a pm to him will help you solve it.

Thanks.. Will do

[Q] fastboot & windows 8.1

Hey Folks, anyone here using windows 8.1? I have no problem running adb, but when I boot the m7 into fastboot, windows says there is a problem with my usb device. I've tried uninstalling htc sync and reinstalling, no dice.
Any thoughts?

Yep. It's a known issue. ADB doesn't work with 8.1. Only solutions right now are to either downgrade back to 8, or wait for the final version of 8.1.
Freaking annoying.
Kinda sucks I have to use a really low end laptop running 7 to use adb commands. At least I rarely use them though...

ADB works fine for me in 8.1, its the HTC drivers for fastboot that are the problem. Anyway, I gave up and just used my Linux box, so I think we'll just have to wait for HTC to update their drivers.

[Q] Fastboot on Windows 8.1

Hey, as I recently updated to Windows 8.1, I had to realize that I can't get fastboot access to my htc one. adb is fine.
Really unfortunate as I was just about to s-off..
Does anyone have a solution?

Yes I did. When my One is on fastboot, it's listed in the device manager as "Unknown USB-Device (device failed enumeration)"
My fastboot was all fine until I updated to 8.1
Probably cause HTC haven't sorted out the drivers for 8.1 yet...
That's precisely it.
If you'll check device manager you will see it doesn't recognize your phone as it should.
A new driver will probobly release soon.

I just did the 8.1 win update thing and its working for me. I updated my htc drivers (htc sync download, then removed sync) yesterday from the htc site, and I was really surprised to find it was working. I updated the drivers BEFORE updating to 8.1

Well, I installed htc sync after updating to 8.1. Are you using USB 2.0 or 3.0?
having the same problem

I think that's adb, reboot to bootloader and connect it to your pc and see if the pc sees it.... if so can you check the driver details in device manager and let us know what they are

Yup, no problem. This is very strange to me also as i have had problems with adb on ARHD 30, but now everything is working fine, including it seems things that are not for everyone else. I have the latest firmware installed with 1.55 hboot. Dont know if thats got anything to do with it?
All I did was on win 8 was
- uninstall and deleted htc drivers
- installed new htc drivers (htc sync)
- uninstalled syn (leaving the drivers)
- today I updated this machine to win 8.1
bingo, no problems at all. ADB and fastboot working perfectly
PS Fastboot devices is a fastboot argument
EDIT sorry I forgot driver version is 2.0.7.20
Well guys, luckily I still had Windows 7 installed on my sata.. It was a pain in the *** since nothing was up to date, but I sorted it out

Same here I did the same as you and my fastboot works just fine.
Well, no luck for me. I did a fresh win 8.1 install. I plug no phone, no driver. I then forced the usb driver from google (ADK), adb work. I reboot into recovery, no prob. I reboot into bootloader, phone doesn't even get detected by windows (as if nothing is connected). I reboot into fastboot, I get "unknown usb device, device failed enumeration". I'm on stock hboot 1.44 s-off
edit: just installed latest htc sync manager, same problem
Same here.
Running Win 8.1, did NOT update drivers before I updated to 8.1.
Now ADB works fine, but Fastboot mode declines to work (device enumeration error in device manager).
I installed latest driver from the 18th (4.8.0.002, thanks @mdmower http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2089508) but it still doesn't make a difference- even though it's supposed to be the updated Win 8.1 drivers.
Great stuff MS, I was just about to go S-OFF
-
Edit:
Intel Z77 Chipset, latest drivers- tried USB2 and USB3, same eror
What I've noticed is: If I'm on an older firmware, fastboot isn't recognized in Windows 8.1. If I'm on a newer firmware (say 3.xx and up), fastboot is recognized. Strange how it behaves like this on Windows, but Ubuntu 13.10 doesn't give two craps and still works no matter the firmware version.
This sucks as we need fastboot to flash a different firmware...
I can confirm now that it works for me with corresponding Firmware 3.62.401.1
Used my laptop with Win7 for S-OFF & SuperCID, upgraded FW and ROM to 3.62.401.1 and now Win 8.1 recognizes Fastboot for the ONE again.
Had 2.24.401.1 on it before that with which it didn't work in Win 8.1.

Windows 8.1

Anyone that upgraded to windows 8.1 yet? Hows with the drivers, adb and fastboot? Experience with it? Thanks.

Hi there,
I upgraded to Windows 8.1, adb seems to work fine over USB3, fastboot doesn't seem to work but i believe it is because of the same problem i had on Windows 8 with USB3.
I have to mention that i manually upgraded all the drivers after the upgrade to W8.1, even the USB drivers, so yeah, there should be the problem.
Anything else seems to work ok. Hope this helps

If you tried W8, there is nothing that would impress you in 8.1, is basically just a .1 itteration
I use it because i bought my laptop with Windows, otherwise i would be a Linux-only user, as my favourite game works on Linux under Wine, so yeah...
For Fastboot problems under windows 8.1, try this tutorial > xda thread
It could work well on Windows 8.1 as well.
**In comments section in an external link from the thread, a user stated that he tried the method on Windows 8.1 and works fine, so check there**

I'm on 8.1 and have working adb and fastboot. My laptop has USB 2.0 ports.
I did have an issue where I lost fastboot after flashing a 1.44 hboot. I uninstalled the drivers (be sure to also delete the HTC folder under program files) and reinstalled.
I've win 8.1, adb and fastboot are working fine with all 2.0 usb.
But fastboot doesn't work with a usb 3.0
I've upgraded from win 8 and i didn't update the driver because all are working fine
Well, I can confirm first hand which problems Win8.1 causes with using Fastboot and the HTC ONE:
Had FW 2.24.401.1 on my device, Win 8.1 wouldn't recognize the device in Fastboot mode (enumeration error).
From what I could gather, if Windows 8 is updated to the latest HTC drivers BEFORE upgrading to 8.1, it would still work. Updating your drivers in 8.1 by itself wouldn't work for it.
Apparantly the newer firmwares fix compatibility within 8.1 for fastboot, so I used my laptop with Win7 for S-OFF & SuperCID, upgraded FW and ROM to 3.62.401.1 and now Win 8.1 recognizes Fastboot for the ONE again.
Maybe that'll help you.

Your exactly right. The Dark Hboot (GE) will not work in windows 8.1 with fastboot.
I even went so far as restoring my windows 8 backup to restore fastboot functionality on my PC.
So I did the test last night and flashed the latest firmware 3.62.401.1 (from windows 8) and then reinstalled windows 8.1 and the fastboot driver installed itself and is working fine. I did have to manually update the adb drivers in device manager though.
Now i finally did update to windows 8.1 and i have adb and fastboot working with firmware and rom 3.62.401.1 All i did was updated the drivers and then all was working. ?

After a long night of trial and error I got fastboot working on USB3.0, USB2 no response at all. What did the trick was installing the windows 7 drivers from Intel for USB3 (remove the Microsoft ones).

Hey guys I also had fastboot issues with windows 8.1 64bit, but when I updated my hboot from 1.54 to 1.55 it started working!
Hope this helps someone else, this is the thread I used for upgrading my hboot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2485651

[Q] fastboot failing - waiting for device

Hello,
Ive Google play edition installed and TWRP recovery, S-off - I bought the phone on ebay and was going to sell it again but the guy wanted stock rom. So I checked this guide htc1guru.com/guides/return-stock-guide/] and started following it, it worked till flash RUU.exe and after that I received waiting for device. Now when I try fastboot command I always get waiting for device. I tried everything from reinstalling drivers, another ports, another cable but without luck. Any advice how to proceed and get the stock ROM ?
Thank you

my first guess is that you are using windows 8.1 with hboot 1.44? If yes then find a windows 7 computer.

Yes, Windows 8.1 and I searched whole day for possible solutions however Im still nowhere.
When I enter in fastboot mode I get Unknown USB device - device failed enumeration and so on.
Is there any fix to this or just to get rid of damn Windows 8.1 ?
Regards and thank you for answer

Simplest solution is to use windows 7, linux or macOS. Windows 8.1 will not work with hboot 1.44. There is a fix somewhere but I dont know, never tried myself.

Adb dont work in win 10 with htc m7 trying to unlock bootloader

Installed sync, adb drivers work but can't get fastboot to work . I've tried so many different things I've seen on internet and nothing works. Tried on windows 8 and 10. Any ideas suggestions?
Anyone ? Adv is working just not fastboot.I no matter what driver I tried. Is shows it installed it then a few seconds later says usb not recognized.

If adb is working fine but not fastboot your phone is probably still on the old 1.44 hboot. Use win 7, Linux or a Mac.

Yup on 1.44 but got it sorted by a registry hack I found on here.

Good, once your hboot will be up to date it should work on all win versions without any problems.
