I just bought my nexus 7 and I have 5 days to take it back for a full refund, I only get 14 days. But after reading this its probably going back for now. I can contain myself for a few days to possibly get the 32 for the same price.

This, I got my n7 16 the day it came out and I absolutely love it. Now a few months later I can get one for the same low price with twice the space? I'll be buying it the day it's out.
Fact is if you want to be up to date, you'll be buying a new device every 6 months, it's just how it is, but hey, who doesn't have a hobby they like to throw money at?

I got my Nexus 7 yesterday from newwegg and I didn't get the 25$ credit. I don't know if it may be related to my location - I live in Europe but I am visiting US now. Even if I try to access redeem codes from google wallet, I get the message "Gift Cards are not available in your location.". Anyone knows how to tell google that my location is now USA?
EDIT: Sorry for little off-topic - I found an answer to my question, in case someone is interested, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1838710
the thing that stands out in my mind
The way these companies justify their pricing is hilarious... one quote in the article states
Right now, Google only offers the Nexus 7 in two sizes, 8GB and 16GB. 8GB is an extremely small amount of space but it enables Google to sell the device extremely cheap at $199.

Just seems rediculous for anyone to believe that 8GB more storage would cost $50 ... and with the cost of memory per GB nowadays it would be a no brainer to up it to 64GB and 96GB just to stomp out the competition...
I guess Google was thinking this would be a more wireless cloud based device but consumers are showing that we don't wanna go that way ... would make sense to meet the demand and just flip everybody out with memory numbers that are huge.... cheap way to set this tablet apart from the rest (besides the other things it's already got going)
Got my 16gb n7 a few weeks ago for £180 UK pounds + £15 store credit + Transformers movie. Otg cable gives me unlimited storage if I need it.
I don't think I would be able to get the 32gb model for this price when it comes out, so I am not worried.

Actually, I remember reading an article about this pricing that said the 8gb didn't provide any real room for profit and the 16gb version is more so that resellers could actually make money on the device.
At first this seemed true as I couldn't find a reseller that even sold the 8gb, but now most seem to, so perhaps the build cost went down.
As for a 32gb coming out for the same price as the 16gb now...I doubt it. This thing hasn't even been out for a year. As for the 8gb going to $99...no way. Not unless Google is doing a fire sale and dumping Android like HP with WebOS.
More realistic would be something like $279/229/179 pricing for 32/16/8gb versions...

You bought the product because were happy with the price and gear being offered.
The Nexus 7 is a damn good deal any way you look at it. $50 extra to have this thing for 2-3 months which would have otherwise been spent dreaming of purchasing one and browsing sites for the best deals all day?
I'm happy with my purchase still. I feel bad for anyone who got an 8gb though.

It's something I'll have to get over but I technically haven't even paid for it yet since the bill isn't due lol. So.. yeah, in that case I'm a little annoyed.

I knew that a that better / cheaper SKU would show up, didn't expect it before Christmas TBH, but I don't care I wanted to experience stock Jelly Bean asap. I've ordered a usb-otg cable and tasty 32 GB USB 3.0 pendrive, which has the benefit of being used over multiple devices.
I'm not really mad I'm just disappointed in Google's marketing. Not a lot of people buy into the nexus brand and Its really not nice to do what they are going to do but since I love this device so much I'm not going to get mad, I'm just going to right them a nice message of what I think about this on October 29th.
Now I'm thinking if I should buy the nexus 4 when they release it or wait.
I'm wondering if people sending in 8gb sets for RMA would get a 16gb back.
Will the next nexus have a longer screen?
I've had mine for about a week and love it. I have a 30 day return policy, if my store got them by Oct 29, wonder if they would let me return it?

I guess you can still call it a rumor. But the 32GB is obviously real at $250 and the 16GB isn't going away, so it'll almost certainly drop to $200. There isn't room for an 8GB model.
I think it's just common sense at this point that the 8GB model is about to get clearanced at the end of the month.

From a business stand point, they are going to sell the 8GB at 199 till it's out of stock, then push the 16gb down to 199 and throw in the 32gb at 250.

2-3 months? That's perhaps true if you're in the US, where it's been released first - not counting some later adopters who didn't get it from day 1. That's not true anymore in some other countries, where it's been out for quite less than 2 months.

Guess what? In those countries where it's been released more recently, the credit is still active... and thus I'd bet the early 32GB buyers will still get it.
So, yes, it IS bad, when there's a 32GB model scheduled for the same price as your 16GB unit, 45 days (since there are obviously numerous leaks) after it's been available in your country.

I have to agree. The people that have had there's for 31-45 days get screwed the hardest. They're just outside the return/refund window and have had so little time with there's to really enjoy it before a price drop and a higher capacity model for the same damn price is released...
I'm one of those people and I'm pretty miffed... I'll be very caution and wait 2-3 months after every new Nexus release or simply not buy from Google at all... we shall see...

Bought the 8 at launch from the Play Store to see if I would like using a tablet. Now I use it all the time. Rely on it. So. Afraid to root it in case I brick it. Want root for Stickmount. 32G means I can have a load of storage and root my 8 with no fear. Cool. Also, its easy to forget just how low cost these devices really are. I think the 32 is a response to the ongoing criticism of the non expandable storage capacity. I like that they listened.

A UK based catalouge retailer called Argos has published it's Christmas supplement with the 32GB being £199.99
Now they have stopped the Play Store credit and freebies, along with great economies of scale, maybe the 8 GB will get a price cut to undermine the cheapest Kindle Fire?

It is/was. Staples near me still has some in stock but they are 199.99
I sold my 8GB yesterday for $175. Barely ahead of today's announcements. I paid $150 with magnetic case for it on Craig's List. Putting it aside for the Nexus 10. N7 was too small for my eyesight to read comfortably. So I guess my suggestion would be to also check out alternate sources as I did.
It originally wasn't supposed to be sold in stores because going the retail route on the 8gb would end up costing them money since the unit was sold so cheap. The 8gb started showing up when the 16gb models couldn't stay stocked, which was a last ditch effort from Google/Asus to keep the supply flowing.
So there ARE 8gb models in the wild and ARE discontinued. I would think that Staples and a select other few would have them discounted. Walmart only had 16gb when I went there last. Craigslist and other 2nd hand sites are likely to be experiencing a rush of 8gb and 16gb models because they are trading for the 32gb.
8GB should be 150$
I'm sad that the 8GB model has been discontinued.. I just bought it the first of this month back when none of this news wasn't around..
I don't wanna go through the process of selling this and getting the 16gb.

Pretty much an empty channel
Every place I checked was sold out of the 8GB units over a month ago, and it was even difficult to track down unopened 16GB models. Everyone in the distribution chain knew about the product shuffling.
The ones you are likely to find now are customer returns, and there will be few that fall within the common 14 or 30 day return window.
Have the screen separation issues been completely resolved? I have a launch 8gb that I want to get replaced. I'm not trying to get a 16gb out of this and I'm hoping if I go through the process now, they won't give me hassle, accusing me of trying to upgrade.
just actually posted my Nex 7 8gb on Craigslist yesterday. we don't use it since we have the ipad.
listing at $150 but taking $125 if i get it. Hate losing $75 so quickly, but that's tech. look on craigslist.
I doubt they'll sell it cheaper for now. Probably keep it for 199 until supplies settle down and when they only have a few, then probably sell them off on clearance.
People are still idiots with this stuff. If they advertise it for 199 people will come in and buy the 8gb probably without looking. Kinda dishonest but companies always do this crap.

Yes, we all have the same feeling, the Nexus 7 is a fine piece of hardware and it was indeed worth every penny I paid for it, I'm too grown up to care what other people pay for theirs..
I just wish I had known there was a 32gb coming considering I bought my N7 a month ago. I need more space than 13gb of usable memory, that's like 5 hd games.
I think this is part of the reason behind the Google Play $25 credit honestly, so really I only paid $225

Glad I waited, just bought the 16GB.
-Brought to you by Marino's Galaxy Nexus-
What bothers me is that the resell value was slashed. I mean if you bought a 16gb for $250+tax, you could probably resell it for $225 on top of all of initial offerings we've gotten from Google. Now it is $199, you'd be lucky to get $175 for it. Plus with the upgraded memory people aren't going to want the 16gb so you'll have to practically give it away.
Oh well. Life is full of surprises. They should have just came out with a 16/32gb unit out of the gate and stop screwing around with 8gb. Memory is so cheap now-a-days that it is pathetic that we allow manufactures keep us in this rut. I mean I had 16gb CF in my old Dell x51v Windows 5.0 "palmtop" haha. Honestly units SHOULD be coming in as 32/64gb these days... or even 64/128gb.
Media consumption is getting deeper and deeper. With games using 4gb each, 8/16gb just don't cut it without sacrifice.
Full agree on that post. But ive learned my lesson, i will wait at least till Christmas to get a Nexus 4 and closely watch the rumors.

I will second that. I do not regret paying full price for mine. That's always the price you pay for buying tech. It gets cheaper and specs always improve. Give it a few more months and there will be something better and cheaper on the market, that I have no doubt.

im stuck
I sold my 16gb nexus 7 to my roommate because 16gb was to small for me and i want to buy the 32 gb version
But i also want the nexus 10 or the new chrome book as a replacement for my Transformer prime
the Transformer prime is ok especially for what i do (I use it for school/occasionally web surfing) but it has no real upside. it still lags, and slows down for no reason.
Anyone have any ideas what should i do?
Im thinking nexus 7 and probably the chromebook, its got the same processor and ram.
I'm being philosophical about this.
I bought the 16GB version three months ago so I've certainly had my money's worth.
Wife seems disinterested in having my N7 to make way for a 32GB upgrade and then Google announces the N4 16GB and I need to upgrade from my HD2 anyway.
Wife needs to upgrade her phone, too, so she can have the HD2.
My N7 still has about 6GB free space and that's with a lot of apps and stuff which would usually be on my phone.
Once I've bought the N4 and moved a lot of apps and stuff over to that there will be sufficient room on the N7 for my needs.
Plus there's still OTG and Drop Box ... Or VPN to my own local server ..
So, I have a best buy junk out coming up for my One. This should be happening in the next week or so.
I was told I can get any phone in store that is of equal or lesser value, then get the difference in store credit if lower. So, do I get the Nexus 5 32 gig and take the $250.00ish store credit?? I'm kind of leaning that way, but I have been an HTC fanboi for so damn long that I'm a-scurred! lol
Any thoughts would be appreciated!!

From what I read earlier, Sprint will be offering the Nexus 5 for $199 w/ $50 MIR with contract or you can buy it form them for MORE than what you'd pay if you bought directly from Google... Somewhere around $550. If you're taking the contract route it's cheaper, but you get screwed if you buy it from them. I just purchased my Nexus 5 32GB for $438 and may, or may not, be switching to T-Mobile cause I guess I roamed too much?
I'll stay with the ONE and wait for the M8.

My One is available for upgrade today lol
I use my one for everything and it has yet to let me down. Sometimes pictures could be better but the way I look at it, it's a smart phone, not a digital camera. If I want high quality digital photos then I should probably use one of those. What does impress me about the camera though is how good the low light photos turn out. Unmatched. The other thing I feel can't be beat is the front speaker sound quality. Front speakers do make a huge difference! Beats with viper4android makes this phone sound awesome! I've yet to hear a handheld device sound better. Until another phone manufacturer comes out with front facing stereo speakers that sound at least as good as these I'll be sticking with the one series.

Not sure how reliable this is, but in an online chat with Staples yesterday, I was told they would be selling it also. No word on pricing, but I will probably get one when they get in stock (company account at Staples = easier to justify and write off). For the time being, I plan on getting a TMOB prepaid SIM and using it as a second phone line. If I like it enough, it may replace my One.
sorry, double-post

Just read this... that gift card is lookin' good.
Sprint said it will sell a tri-band 4G LTE version of the freshly announced Nexus 5 starting on November 8 for $149.99 with a new two-year contract. Customers interested in the brand new smartphone can pre-order the device today. Meanwhile, T-Mobile will also sell the device (we’re still waiting on pricing information) and Best Buy, Amazon and RadioShack will all sell it unlocked starting at $349.99 for the 16GB model or $399.99 for the 32GB version.

They did the same thing with the HTC One, $200.00 over regular off contract price, but I just walked in and said I need a price match to Amazon.com and they said "ok no problem"
