wanted to convert my HD7 into full android and got red screen in process. have read dozens of threads so far no help.
have fastboot cable, and I can get my kindle screen to say fastboot kindle fire - but I cannot seem to get the proper driver installed on my Win8 so that I can use fastboot. I've downloaded and installed numerous drivers. So far my kindle will not communicate with my computer, thus I cannot move forward in any way. I have installed ADB and SDK on my computer. I have scoured internet for ideas, helps. I am STUCK. Any help greatly appreciated!
Try the driver on my signature, but take note you are on windows 8, you can't install the driver by default because windows 8 won't allow unsigned drivers, you have to boot windows 8 up with driver signature enforcement disabled. Google disabling that and I think it may be the root of your problems.

Thanks! I think it worked. I still can only see my kindle in device manager, but I ran the SR Tool.bat option to check fastboot and it said it finished. of course my kindle won't reboot or anything because the bootloader is messed up. so now I am on a quest looking for steps to flash something with fastboot so that my kindle will actually reboot and then I can take steps toward a completely new ROM. obviously I'm learning as I go. I'll start reading more threads, feel free to point me in the right direction if you want. thanks again!
Got this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848
Do the part at step after where it says added 04/02, and please make sure you check the md5sum of the file before flashing, if it doesn't match up you will have a hard brick. Just Google "md5sum windows" if you don't know how to calculate a md5sum on windows. There's freeware available to do it.

I've read threads and answers to the point now that I'm going in circles. No one seems to address my problem. I am in fastboot. It appears I can flash things onto my kindle. I got the "kfhd7-u-boot-prod-7.2.3.bin" file on my kindle and got rid of the red screen. but I cannot get a recovery screen on my kindle. it just says kindle fire (fire is in orange). I press the power and volume up button and nothing. I go back to the beginning, read more threads. argh! it doesn't seem to be bricked. I just can't get a new bootloader to run so that I can flash a new rom. argh help!
You can't get into twrp anymore be cause we had to restore the stock boot loader, now u just need to reflash the system image and it should boot up, might need the boot image as well, but I think that kfsrt restores both of those, just put it in fastboot again and start the process.

It was a long haul but finally got out of the loop. thanks for your help! the final step that got me out of the ditch was to download and use the KFHD_SRT_v1.3.5- 7.3.0, then I ran #3 restore-factory recovery. I learned a lot through the process about fastboot and flashing files. For now I'm rooted with factory launcher and some other options too. I still think I want to wipe it and make it totally android.
Thoughts or recommendations? and thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
Well there are a fair amount of ROMs out, I use a tablet ui cm ROM that jester originally made, but when he went straight to cm 10.2 I wasn't ready so I made my own patch for cm 10.1 latest update with tablet ui, if your interested check the link in my signature out, though u need to put twrp back on again.

Hi All,
I feel like I sort of screwed myself here. I tried rooting my Kindle but didn't fully understand the process and now have a bricked device. Fortunately I have a factory cable and when I plug it into my computer I'm getting the Fastboot Kindle Fire logo on my screen. Unfortunately I didn't set up any recovery before hand (that I know of) and my computer doesn't seem to be recognizing the device.
I've tried following this guide but don't quite understand what to do in step two (I've downloaded ADK and am thoroughly confused).
What are my next steps here for getting my device un-bricked? Any help or guidance at all would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
He really needs to reword step 2. When it refers to using adb, it means if your kindle is able to boot up normally then run that command to get into fast boot. You already have it in fast boot so just ignore the adb part.

Hi,
Good that you have a fastboot cable. First, Windows needs to see your device. When you go into Device Manager, what do you see? Do you see something like TATE-PVT-08 as an unknown device? You need to "install" a driver for that device. Double click the unknown device, select find drivers yourself, and scroll down until you find the Kindle Fire category of devices. Once you click-through that, you should find ADB Composite Device or something like that as an option. After that, Windows should recognize your device, and you should be able to use fastboot commands on it. (By the way, this assumes that you've installed the Kindle ADB device drivers at one point in time)
See this thread for more information about the actual RESTORE commands. (Look under the Restore section of the first post)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1930656
Unfortunately, I don't have a system.img that I can send you. One option is to download Kindle Fire First Aide - that might have access to an older system.img file on it (v7.2.3) which will help you. Here's a post on how to download Kindle Fire First Aide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2096888
Follow each of the steps carefully! Install the Java SE Development Kit, for example.
I bricked my Kindle Fire HD. I now have a factory cable that brings it up to a Fastboot screen. But all it does it stay on that screen.
My ultimate goal was to put Jelly Bean on it, but I guess I wasn't smart enough to do that.
How does this cable work? And is my only option restoring it to factory settings?
What do I do? I have a hard time figuring out what directions to use because it seems like every website says something different.
The factory cable doesn't do anything but put the device in fastboot mode. You have to use fastboot to restore partition images saved from the 2nd bootloader instructions. Once your device is restored, you can start all over again.
Can you point me towards the best set of directions for this Fastboot? I plug it in and all it does it stay in the Fastboot startup screen.

That's exactly what it's supposed to do. It's just a bootmode that waits to accept a certain set of (fastboot) commands. The first thing you need to ask yourself is, do you have the partition images to restore in the first place?
I don't think I have a backup. I really didn't know what I was doing. My laptop recognizes the device as Tate-PVT-08. I have the Minimal ADB and Fastboot software, but that doesn't recognize it yet.
There's a system image restore script in the android development section, but you said HD and not if it was 7 or 8.9 inch. Pretty sure its a 7 inch since it says Tate, think 8.9 is jem, so here the link if its a 7 inch version. If that doesn't wanna work I think kffa also can help. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
Oh and ignore the stuff on step 2 about running an adb command, that's only for if Ur kindle is actually able to boot up all the way.

You may try to send it to amazon customer support center.
My Kindle Fire only show Kindle HD in 6 seconds and turn off after that. I don't know how to fix it
Anyone please show me how to resurect it
You need a fastboot cable. Odd that it shuts off, I don't think its a sign of a bad bootloader atleast, maybe a bad kernel flash or something. My post above applies to you as well, get a fastboot cable and try that utility. Think it should do the trick. Keep in mind that link is for the 7 inch version of that utility, you didn't specify which kindle it is so if its a 8.9 then post another msg because u might not need a fastboot cable and you will need a link to the 8.9" version of that utility.

I posted this late last night after spending hours troubleshooting so sorry for the lack of details.
I thought I followed the instructions to a t on this thread. The only step I skipped was backing up my data. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2128848
When my Kindle Fire HD booted, it would loop between the regular Kindle Fire logo and the Blue logo. Eventually it would then go to TWRP. Once in TWRP I tried numerous times to use the Boot Option, Restore Option, and Recovery option to no avail. When I selected Bootloader, I would get the fastboot logo and it would stall there. I had to hard reset to get it to start again. Every time I connected my Kindle to the fastboot cable and entered the ADB or fastboot commens, it would say waiting on device. I also tried using the Factory Restore tool below and that did not work.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
When I connected the Kindle Fire HD to the PC, sometimes it would show as Android Device and other times it showed as PVT-8 or something to that effect.
Here is where I am now. The Kindle Fire HD no longer can boot to TWRP. It just looks the normal Kindle Fire logo and it loops indefinitely. My PC can no longer see the Kindle Fire HD at all. Is this a true brick or do I still have a chance?
BTW, I have multiple micro USB cables for all the devices I use. I am pretty sure the one I am using is the factory. How can I confirm this is a fastboot cable?
How did you get back to an orange only boot loop, it was easy to fix when it was blue... If it only is orange you are probably going to need a fastboot cable. Oh and to satisfy you with an answer as to why it boot looped, its because the newer amazon os detects the older boot loader or twrp, and refuses to boot, so you have to have a ROM ready to flash on the sdcard ahead of time.

Thanks. Anyway to confirm that the cable I have is a fastboot cable? Also, how would I go about performing a repair if it is.
If its a fastboot cable you would know it because you bought it for such occasions and because as soon as you plug it into the kindle it says fastboot in big letters. Once you have it in fastboot use kindle fire first aid and try a system reflash, I'm sure it would boot up without a doubt if you used an older version of the Amazon os, like I think 7.4.2 or older, but I don't know what version kffa uses, so if it still doesn't boot after doing that, try using the kindle fire system restore tool.

Thank you. Much appreciated. I ordered one from Amazon but will see about making one myself.
Are you trying to boot into Stock Amazon OS? That's your issue. Download a ROM and proper Google Apps package and either put them on your SD Card by mounting USB Storage in TWRP, or sideload flash a ROM, then you'll boot without issue. Don't forget to factory reset and wipe /system beforehand! I had this same issue my first time.

Why option 1? That is a different version of the tablet. You want to run KFFA and select 'completely restore the KFHD 7 7.2.3' This should be #3 of KFFA.
So once you have the tablet in fastboot, just run KFFA and go from there. Some files will download and then KFFA will push them onto your tablet. After that, your tablet will be stock and you can root and remove OTA updates from there. Keep an eye on your computer screen as the script will tell you what's going on.

Good to heart. You'll love CM 10.2. Works real well.
So I'm trying to flash CM 10.1 onto my KFHD 7, and I've installed TWRP. Now when I try to boot up so I can move the ROM onto the device storage, it won't fully boot. I get the regular Kindle fire logo, then the blue one, then the flashing one as normal, but then it flashes, goes back the the first, then the blue, and finally opens TWRP. In TWRP, I can't get the device to mount so I can see it on my computer, so I'm not sure how to get the ROM onto the device to flash. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Try my tutorial, I have been seeing this a lot lately, it just has to do with with something amazon did to their os.

I think in twerp, you can mount usb

You need to flash a custom ROM to boot. I really think the development or Q&A section should have a sticky regarding this issue, or at least Hashcode make note of it in his how-to guide on 2nd bootloader and recovery.

Thanks all. Stunts513, I'm trying it now, I'll let you know.
So there is no device with an issue in my device manager, I see Kindle Fire and under that is Android ADB Interface. But, when I do "adb push ..." all I see is the same thing as if I just type "adb" and the file doesn't transfer. Sorry, I'm a noob.
When typing adb push, it displays the help text? Type adb devices and see if it lists it, also make sure your command prompt is being run as admin, I probably should mention that in the tutorial, because I use windows 7 with uac disabled so I don't have to worry about that kinda stuff.

My advice is to go to the Kindle Fire FirstAide thread on here. Run KFFA back to 7.2.3 and root from that simple script. Then use Hashcode's 7.2.3 bootimg and the TWRP he has on his thread. This way you have matching bootimg and you should not bootloop.
I would put the rom you're going to flash on the root of the SD card before flashing first as well. If you do bootloop, you can flash the rom anyway and save some hassle.

So my device shows up as "0123456789abcdef recovery" or something along those lines. Is this right (the ordered numbers and letters look kind of funny)? Also, I am an admin, so that can't be the problem.
OK that's good that is how the device is supposed to show up. If it displayed the help text last time I'm guessing there was a typo in the adb push command.
Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire HD running CM10.1 Tablet UI using xda-developers app
If you get frustrated or simply can't get ADB Sideload or ADB push to work, you may have to go into "Advanced", then "Reboot Bootloader" in TWRP and use KF First Aide to flash to 7.2.3 stock. From there, repeat the process of installing TWRP and Second Bootloader but put a custom ROM on your SD card before the procedure. Your fastboot drivers might not work, I know Stunts513 has drivers you can install.

Ok so when I wrote that, it was showing up when I typed "adb device," but it wouldn't push. I tried again today, triple checking my typing, but now it doesn't show up on "adb device," just the help menu. I just uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers with no luck.
Ok so I finally figured out the issue, it's really kind of silly. In your tutorial Stunt513, you show the push command like this:
Type this into the command prompt: adb push rom-or-gapps-name-goes-here.zip /sdcard/
All I had to do was replace the forward slash between the file name and 'sdcard' with a space. Problem solved. Thanks again for helping out!
I had some malware on on my kindle fire hd 7, a keylogger which someone installed to be exact. I went into the app settings trying to delete this file & i seem to have deleted the entire operating system from my kindle & now the whole system boot image is gone. I have no way to access adb usb debugging because the kindle no longer displays the notification bar at the top of the screen & because of this i'm unable to do the factory restore. I even bought a factory fastboot cable & it booted right into fast boot mode, but when i try to flash the system.img, it just tells me waiting on device. It also just show up as Tate-PVT-08 when in fastboot mode even though i have all the necessary drivers installed such as (kindle fire adb drivers, minimal adb and fastboot & android SDK ) Is there anyway you can assist me in getting my kindle back to working order ? Thank you. I attached some images so that you can see what i'm talking about. Even if i use the fast boot cable to boot into fast boot mode & then try to use the KFHD Restore Tool it just says waiting on device. Help !!
