Build date 1007 - in service August 2010.
I've been running Pinnacle 1.2 (been on it since v1.0).
Just moments ago I've found the power button to be unresponsive. This happened after I rebooted into recovery, sticking me there for a while.
I was stuck in a recovery loop- pull batt, reinstall batt, automatic boot back into recovery.
Somewhere in the process of trying different combinations of battery pulls with cable installs and volume up/down holds (trying for download mode) I ended up finally launching the ROM, but w/o a power button all I can do is pull the battery, and the moment I do, the phone automatically wakes w/o even touching the power button (which is totally new to me).
Any input would certainly be appreciated.
My first order of business is to flash to stock (JF6, bootloaders and all if all else failed) but being that it automatically boots when the battery is installed I don't think even a jig would help...or is the beer steering me wrong?
I am confused. You can go back to stock or no?
I cannot get into download mode. The only way to power the phone off is via battery pull.
I cant flash anything from recovery because it says the power button is disabled (it is).
As I put the battery back in the phone boots immediately...I mean the at&t screen lights up my palm before I put the cover on or even flip the phone over.
Use an app from market to enter download mode? system toolbox free is one
Used Odin to go back to stock KF1 and still no power button. Now System Toolbox won't work w/o root/busybox. lol
Once my phone falls asleep I can't wake it back up.
It may seem obvious that the power button is physically broken but I don't know why the phone boots up as soon as the battery is installed...that was never the case before this issue came up.
watsa? Anyone?
Can anyone else shed some light on what would make the phone boot when the battery is inserted (happened at the same time the power button became unresponsive), essentially denying me the opportunity to get to download mode.
beyond this point I am consfused myself. I initially blamed Pinnacle and thought going back to stock might fix it which obviosly didn't happen.. It seems like your power button is always "pushed" so as soon as you pop your battery in phone reboots..

On a second thought if it was the case then power button should have messed up functioning of your phone even after powering on. So I am consfused more. Need a hardware expert here
I'm preparing myself to deal with my beloved phone finally letting me down after all the success we've had...it's just really bad timing as I'm currently unemployed, broke and only 13ish months into a 48 month contract.
Ok, so after a physical tear down it seems to be in the external plastic of the button itself?
After removing the outer case and reinserting the battery I noticed it did not automatically boot up. I pressed the actual power switch/button that is connected to the board and the phone then powered up. I let it finish booting and held the power button down and the power options menu popped up. I clicked Power Off and it shut down fine.
This means it certainly isn't Pinnacle ROM (never thought it was, personally), or software related at all. Now to figure out what is going on between the plastic external power button and the power switch on the board.
Edit: Nothing was there? I blew out the dust reassembled the phone and now it works fine. Weird.
I don't really know what happened. When I press the power button my phone's screen lights just black then goes blank. When I press my buttons they vibrate but nothing happens. I've tried pulling the battery out several times, leaving it on the charge and all other kinds of things. It is just not working. Does anyone have the solution to this problem?
I'm not sure if this is the same issue..but along the process of rooting my rogers raider I encountered thus during a regular restart. I thought I bricked my phone but realize that the back light was just off and my phone was actually in the recovery menu. I put the phone under bright light and I could just barely see the headings in the recovery menu. It took some tilting and angling the phone just right to see it, but I was able to run a nandroid recovery and get back to a point before this happened. Once again, not sure if its the same thing but try tilting the phone around and using the volume keys to see if you can see the recovery menu in the blank screen.
Hope this helps

This doesn't seem to be the situation I'm having but thank you anyway. +Thanks.
when you plug it in to charge, does the orange charge light come on for 4-5 seconds then go out again? have you tried to hold the vol down key and the power button to get into HBoot? If you can get into HBoot, you might be able to get into recovery.

Yes, that is exactly what is happening. I tried what you said but it is not working. My phone won't go into Hboot.
I think your battery isn't charging (at least that was the issue I was having). Your battery will only charge when the orange light goes on, and if it's anything like what was happening to me, when the orange light went off, that's when the buttons would vibrate. If this is the case, it may sound tedious, but you have to watch the phone. When the orange light goes off, push the home button several times and the vibrating will stop. Then you should see the orange light come on again to signify the charging state. It'll go off again after 4-5 seconds and the buttons will vibrate. Repeat the process of pushing the home button and letting the orange light come on and eventually, the phone should try and turn on. You can try and see if it'll boot, but mine never had enough juice to turn on. So I would pull the battery when the HTC Logo came up and repeat the process with the orange light. This time though, I would hold the vol down button knowing that when it tried to turn on again, it would load into the bootloader. I can't guarantee this'll work for you, but give it a go. What might make it easier is borrow a charged battery from someone and see if it'll load into the bootloader. That might save you from that tedious process.

I tried your method.. And when you said to tap the home button several times... It never stops vibrating.. It just keeps going.

OK I get what you have to do now.... but it wont work... I plugged in my charger.. The light would go for 5 sec. then I would touch the buttons and they vibrate.. So I tap the home button constantly. And the orange light didnt come back up.. HELP! PLEASE!
help the charging light doesn't come back again.. vibration has stopped.. but still no charging light
help pleaseeee
Try different battery fully charged and see if your phone turns on. It it does then plug your phone for charging and see if charges.
Try connecting your phone with usb cable in computer and see if your computer recognize the phone.
there can be three issues.
1. Your battery is dead and won't charge
2. Your charging port on phone is not working
3. your phone backlight is not working.

EDIT: I have stopped looking for these threads. The more I look, the more I find. If the above threads don't convince you that there is a serious issue with the vivid, then adding more of the same problem will no longer help.
I have added this thread to a growing list of similar threads. Please read the other threads and see if your issues seem familiar.
From what I understand... Don't let your battery run out on this phone. Some Vivids kill batteries.
Solution? None yet.
1. Buy a new battery once a couple of months-ish, until someone figures out why some Vivids are eating batteries. YMMV
*OR*
2. You might invest in a external charger and see if that can bring the "Vivid munched" battery back to life. YMMV
I vote to thread merge the above threads if this proves to be the issue.
Hello
I hope to get an answer here to avoid a new thread. I was trying to return my vivid back to gb from ics. I had booted into the bootloader and i dont even remember at this point what i thought i was going to do. I think i got distracted. But anyway i pressed vol down to boot recovery because i was going to do a backup and i looked away from the phone for a minute and when i came back to it the phone was black screen. i hit the power thinking it was just on standby but nothing. I notice it was backlit on the screen but nothing would happen when i press anything. I pulled the battery waited a few min put it back and now totally black with no activity at all. no lights no vibrating no power on, no adb. I have played with a lot of phones and even iphones too so if this thing is fried i guess i will consider myself lucky that its the first ive actually killed out of probably 30 phones. I have searched and tried many things but i cant believe there is no way to recover it. I have recovered a lot of phones I thought I bricked before. any help is greatly appreciated. I was on ics and rooted. I also relocked the bootloader. (i was planning to go back to gb) I thought i had a recovery installed but maybe not. i posted in another thread that i was unable to get hboot by power + vol down method. i could only do it through the tool kit. so i dont know if any of that matters

I hope someone resolves this issue, I've messed with lots of phones. But this is really weird. But I got the same problem where all that happens is that there is backlight on but no boot IMG no HTC logo, no bootloader, recovery. Completly non responsive. At first it wouldn't even power on until I would unplug from a power source. Whether it was unpluging the charger or removing the battery. That's when the backlight would flash. All this happened in the process of flashing a PH39IMG.zip
Is there no other fixes for this? Anyone? Please

I once got stuck on the HTC screen (White background) and found out I could access the device in adb.
So, connect your phone to your pc and check if you can access it from adb (adb devices). If you can try get to the bootloader from here and see what happens (adb reboot-bootloader)!
And if you can access bootloader,
>If you need to get back to stock, get your carrier RUU, put rom.zip from it in an external sdcard and use reboot into hboot again, OR
>if you need a custom ROM unlock bootloader, flash a custom recovery (TWRP is cool) and you may use TWRP to install your ROM
I hope this helps... lets know...
I did mention I cant get it to recognize the phone. So no adb I tried all that before posting. Im afraid im just dead
So I am having the same problem. I eventually got it on yesterday but I turned off my phone and I am back to square one. Would using the vivid toolkit work to reboot to hboot? or am I stuck like this until i replace battery?
4 hours later I am back on!! never turning this thing off again
Had the same problem and just left the at&t store and its the battery. Once he exchanged batteries it worked fine

Not sure if anyone encountered this, but after using my razr i for a day, the screen suddenly froze. Granted a lot of apps were running at the time. So I did a soft reset on the phone (volume down + power), and the screen shut down. But it never booted up again. I tried everything, from holding power button, volume down+power, volume down+up+power, volume up+power, even tried combinations with the camera button, but still no go. I read somewhere it might be the battery, so i tried charging it to a wall outlet for half a day, but still no go. (it was actually connected to my laptop via usb when the first screen freeze occurred). I tried googling this issue but nothing came up. The led light is at solid green the whole time. I can turn the led light off by holding the power button for a few seconds (or power button + other buttons). But as soon as I press the power button (or power button + other buttons) the green led light immediately turns on, no delay at all. it's been two days now, and I still can't figure this one out. Worst part is I'm out of the country, so I can't bring it back to a repair center. Anyone?
have you tried taking both sim and sdcard? the only thing I can think besides totaled phone

Yes I tried that too. Still the same. Looks like I got myself a lemon
hope u didn't unlock your bootloader, i figure that you tried keep the phone off for 1 or 2 hours and then turn it on, somewhere i readed it could work also

yes i tried it too. still the same. looks like this is a lost cause.
So I installed HTC_M7's CM10.2 ROM, after using it for a little bit, i decided to go back to sense. So I got rid of that and installed this rom. It worked fine after I booted up, except that none of my apps where downloading, so I decided to restart, now my phone is stuck in either the shutdown, or boot up animation.
I tried holding the power button but it's not doing anything, also tried pressing the power and volume down button.
Right now I'm just waiting for the battery to die, it was at 38% when I decided to restart.
Any suggestions? I was going to see if I could get into recovery and wipe everything after the phone dies and charges a little bit, then add more charge and RUU it.
EDIT: I have clockworkmod recovery.
EDIT: #2, tried the, shine a bright light on the phone and press the power button thing, and it worked, I don't really get how that fixes it.

I've seen it said that it is a protection from accidents in your pocket or bag.
Hello,
I have a rooted and TWRP installed but otherwise stock 5.something T710 that I had worked on months ago. It's been great and my daughter had been using it to watch videos a couple days ago. I took the tablet from her at the end of our road trip and noticed it had about 63% battery left. I left it in the truck while we went to the movies(about 40 degrees f outsides) and then drove home without ever touching it until we got home. I went to use it when we got home and it would not turn on. I plugged it in to let it charge thinking it died for some reason, using the stock charger, though battery icon never appeared. The next morning I went to check it and it still would not turn on.
When I press the power button or plug in or unplug the charger the Recent and Back soft key lights will turn on for a second, then turn back off again.
I've tried:
Holding the power button down alone for over 3 minutes.
Held the power and volume up button for over a minute
Power and volume down for over a minute.
Home, volume down and power for over a minute
Home, volume up and power for over a minute.
I can connect it to my computer and it recognizes that my Tab S2 is connected but no files show as the default for the device was just charging mode and not the file modes.
Odin3 v3.10.7 recognizes it as connected. But fails to send the TWRP file again.
Any help?
Since the soft keys light up and the computer recognizes the device, it sounds like maybe the tab is still working but with no display? By any chance did you have adb working? I f so you could try rebooting, or booting into recovery to see if you see anything on the screen. It's possible that when you held the button combos, that it did boot into download and recovery but you couldn't see anything? In which case it could be a hardware problem. Hopefully it will fix itself! Sorry I can't be of more help..
Well adb shows the device as unauthorized. Reboot command says the same thing.
The home key is unresponsive to my finger print unlocks and no sound plays when I try to adjust the volume, like the ding sound it makes to hear if this is the volume level I want. There are never any of the capacitive touch vibrations or whatever its called to feel when you press a button on the screen.
I was wondering if it had something to do with hardware it's just strange that it would stop working from just being in my truck. From my knowledge it was never dropped or bumped heavily or anything, at least recently.
I guess it is possible something just burned up inside, that would be inconvenient, I've got to look up if its still in warranty. I love the size and performance of this thing.
Thanks for replying, hopefully more to come.
Still can't get it to work, same issues as above. I let the battery fully die which took about 2+weeks from the initial post. Which is to say that eventually the back and recent buttons stopped lighting up. I recharged it and after holding the power button for a few seconds the same condition repeated itself. If I touch the power button or home button the back and recent button back lights turn on for a moment and turn off again. There is no other indication of life. I would assume if it was just a dead screen then I should feel it try to turn on.
If I had to replace parts which ones should I look at first? Probably just the main board?
Buy a new one. Send yours in as defect. Done.
erase111
I see that is an old thread, but I having the same issue to a certain degree. The screen goes dark, but I can see the back light. If I play around enough times, (pressing the back and process button, before pressing the sensor button... Sometime, pressing the volume buttons and back button before pressing the sensor button), everything goes back to normal. Of course, it some random time, even when I am reading a web page or some other activity, it will go back to black.
So has anyone figured out what this issue actually might be? I thought maybe it was an issue with the ROM I was using, so I just moved over to LineageOS 16, but the problem still continues!
