I'm thinking about getting the Galaxy S4 Active soon. I have a question about unlocking to use a carrier like Tmobile to Straighttalk. If I buy the GS4 for 200 dollars at Best Buy. Can I use the Wifi right away or is there a way to bypass it telling me to go to a Tmobile store to be able to use it or whatever happens and use Wifi to unlock the phone?

Ok I have a moderate grasp that it is definately possible to use the Note on Straight Talk. I recently read the only other thread on it here in these forums. But I thought to start one here so that the information is available for others who need in its own post. This is also, of course for my benifit.
I am about to purchase an International Note from Amazon or Newegg this week. I plan to use it on StraightTalk wireless. I know specific APN settings are necessary for it to be usable to its full potential. So i have a couple of questions:
1) What is the correct APN settings for Straighttalk using the Note?
2)When ordering the Sim, so I chose unlocked phone or ATT compatible phone?
3)I currently have Straighttalk service on a dumbphone. Is that Sim usable in the Note? If it is, will just be able to change my plan to the Unlimited all for $45 and get the same service as I would if i ordered the unlocked or att sim?
4)I also saw some loose mention of a Data cap in the other thread but to my knowledge Straighttalk clearly says unlimited. Which is it?
Thank you in advance.
imho, the best thing to do is call your provider? anyway, for comparison, i purchased my note from company A with their own sim. Note is unlocked. im using company B's sim on my note without any problem.
SO...
Anyone using it know the exact settings and if i need to purchase new unlocked sim from them or if i can use my old sim from my original straighttalk dumbphone?
you can find the info you need here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1487293
those are the settings most of us are using.
I didnt want straight talk to set me up on tmobile so I ordered the at&t sim..i would suggest the same if you have good at&t coverage cause you'll only get edge speeds on tmobile.
Is Sim Card in the Moto W418G same as the "AT&T Compatible Phone Sim Card" from ST??
Hello my fellow XDA-Developers,
Just have a quick question for anyone who can answer, I am coming from a Black Samsung Galaxy S2 [which I love] (on BS Sprint <--- who i HATE... no wait... who I DESPISE...) to my (sexy white) Unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note, that of which, arrives today! IM SO HAPPY ABOUT THIS!!! ;-)
My question is... is the Sim Card that comes with the Motorola W418G (www shopstraighttalk dot com/bpdirect/straighttalk/PhoneDetails.do?action=view&productVariantExtensionId=13092337) [which I had to purchase, because I really needed a phone at the moment) the same Sim Card as the "AT&T Compatible Phone Sim Card" that can be purchased separately online from StraightTalk for $14.99?? (www straighttalk dot com/ShopSims)
I would like to know this because I am planning on taking the sim that I activated with the $45 Unlimited plan yesterday, out of the Motorola W418G and putting it into the Galaxy Note that will arrive today... I am assuming/hoping that everything will function correctly (Voice, Text+MMS, & Data) once I update the APNs appropriately... This should be ok... right?? Or are they different Sim Cards??
Worst Case Senario... if they are different Sim Cards and I am forced to purchase one from StraightTalk separately... how would I go about putting my account onto that Sim Card and not the one that came with the Motorola W418G??
Thanks in advance for your help!
Best Regards,

Hi guys,
I was wondering if anyone out there can help me? I have been trying to get this this Samsung Galaxy S4 Active Sgh-I537 to work on Verizon. It is right now with At&t. I was told by at&t that the phone is unlocked already. Actually according to at&t the S4's and up come unlocked. I keep getting the Sim Network Error. I was told by at&t that that means my sim is locked through Verizon. Anyone hear of that? I am not under contract and have not been for at least a year and this phone is not under contract either. Not sure if that is true. I paid to have this phone unlocked and the site told me they cannot generate a code for this phone and refunded me my money back. I want to get this phone working on Verizon due to the fact that I have the unlimited plan an cannot upgrade without paying high dollars for a phone. I bought this phone with the understanding that it will work with Verizon. Can anyone help me or give me suggestions on what to do? I have had this phone now for about a week and about ready to sell it on eBay if I cannot get it working. PLEASE any help would be greatly appreciated.

The i537 won't work on Verizon. Verizon is a CDMA network and this is a GSM phone. This phone will work on nearly any other network in the world except Verizon or Sprint.

Bottom line first, like the other member said, your phone is GSM based. It is IMPOSSIBLE for your GSM phone to work with Verizon because Verizon (and Sprint) use CDMA technology. (And vice versa, Verizon and Sprint phones will not work with AT&T or T-Mobile (also a GSM carrier).
Not sure HOW you bought the phone, but if someone told you that the AT&T phone would work with Verizon, they told you wrong.
You have a few options:
- You can sell the phone on eBay to someone who wants a GSM phone (if it is truly unlocked that adds value to the phone. But before advertising it as unlocked make sure it is). And use those proceeds to buy a CDMA Verizon SGS4 phone.
- You can keep the phone and switch to a GSM prepaid carrier. Straight Talk is what I use. And I am using an AT&T branded Samsung Galaxy S4 AT&T Active SGH-i537. (Because I have a Straight Talk AT&T SIM card.) With Straight Talk for $45 monthly I get unlimited talk, text, and 3GB of true 4G LTE service. That's hard to beat, IMO.
Bonus Tip: Next time, notice the difference between phones. The letters that matter are "GSM" or "CDMA." If you see a phone branded AT&T ot T-Mobile, those are GSM phones. If you see a phone branded Verizon or Sprint, those are CDMA phones. Rely on that rather than what someone tells you.
Good luck.
P.S. The carriers kind of told you right. Your phone is a GSM device, but your SIM is CDMA. The easy fix, if you are not under contract with Verizon is to get a GSM SIM, such as through Straight Talk.
If you are under contract with Verizon consider switching to Straight Talk and paying the ETF penalty. This is because the savings with Straight Talk (e.g., $70 monthly off your bill) quickly pays the ETF penalty.
Pencil out the cost of your Verizon unlimited plan. Is it worth the price you are paying, over that which you would pay with a carrier like Straight Talk? If it is, then simply get a CDMA phone. Easiest way is to get an S4 that says "Verizon" on the battery cover. :good:

It should have taken a carrier 15 seconds ito tell you in plain English that you were using the incorrect phone.
If I was an AT&T CSR I would have had you flip the phone over and tell me what it says or what graphic it had on the battery cover. I believe Verizon phones say "VERIZON"
On hearing that I would have then tried to sell you an AT&T account.
Whoever sold you the phone (eBay purchase) and the carriers left you floundering on the dock like a fish out of water.
So I had an AT&T branded Galaxy s5 that went for a swim in the washing machine and as luck would have it my charging port cover broke off the week before and the phone is now dead. I’m now wanting to replace it, but this time I really don’t want to go through AT&T. I figure if I have to pay full price for a phone I want to get one with an unlocked boot loader. The problem is I have read in other places that the international version will not work on at&t’s LTE network and a branded AT&T phone is required to utilize LTE. Is it possible to get a phone that has an unlocked boot loader and compatible with at&t’s LTE network? I just want to do my research before making a decision and don’t want to get trapped unto getting the wrong phone. Any advice?
I had my old phone rooted and I used safe strap. I probably do the same with the new one as well just so I don’t trip knox right away, but I like the option of having the unlocked boot loader in case when I need it in the future.
correct me if i am wrong, but i believe at&t devices are gsm. so couldnt you just buy another gsm device and have it unlocked and then go to at&t with that device and add it to your plan with an at&t sim card?

If you're buying outright then TMO bootloader isn't locked then you can just sim unlock and you're good to go

I was wondering if anyone sim unlocked their ATT Galaxy S6 for a decent price? I bought the phone at full retail price, but At&t keep telling me i need 6 months of gophone service to unlock it, which i think is BS. I would be grateful for PMs or replay to this thread, thanks.
Hi,
I want to unlock my Galaxy s8 t mobile. Is there any possible way to do that. Some websites say that they can unlock the device at a cost of $150 ++.. Are these sites are reliable or is there any other way to unlock the device other than calling to T-mobile ????
Thank You...

As I understand T-Mobile S8 comes with "device unlock" app. Normally user would use it to unlock the phone. You can try contacting T-Mobile(T-Force) on Facebook. They are usually more helpful then regular customer service.
Some of those unlock sites won't work if there is money owed on the phone.
check it
The easiest way is to pay off the balance of the phone and then having t-mobile give you a unlock code through the app
Yes the easier way is pay it off, and have TMobile unlock it. Also, if you keep the phone on a line of service for 3 months TMobile will unlock it without the device being paid off.
Unlock T mobile galaxy S8
You can unlock Samsung galaxy S8 with clean Imei from Doctorsim.com. they will charge you around $80. but you will get unlocked phone. It may take up to 10 working days in worst case whereas as they have mention delivery time 1-7 business days.
