Who want kitkat? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

The fact that this is real makes this the biggest plot twist ever

This would indicate that the 5.0 version is going to be MAJOR and will fragment the OS once again as it will render a good amount of current users unable to upgrade to due to having incompatible hardware. Which isn't a new tactic. iOS7 won't work on some older Apple devices just like Windows 8 is also incompatible with older machines, forcing many users to physically upgrade. This is why I believe 4.4 is a bait and switch, it's killing time until 5.0 because it could possibly put them in the firing line again as it could turn out that 5.0 is so different and new, only a small sliver of current gen devices will be powerful enough to upgrade. Thus giving Google reason to try and get as many users as possible onto 4.x so that when the change does happen they are catering for only 2 majority OS markets, not more. Remember 2.X is still above 30%.

Me want kitkat
Me want kitkat

Honestly, I think it's time for me to get a new phone, I'm currently using jelly bean and after installing a couple of apps it becomes slow, all apps demand loads of RAM now.
The phone is fine without the apps, but who could live without installing a few apps anyway, so I think i might get a new one and after seeing how much RAM Kitkat would take then i'll decide if I'll upgrade my old one or not, and use it as a secondary phone with almost no apps installed.

i want a key lime pie :silly:

As they said, older phones will get support for android kitkat, Then nexus s should get one , So do we?

for me it was strange that same year we get 4.3 and now 5.0 so quickly. however looking forward to it, have high hopes that it will work on galaxy s

What makes this different than task's rom?
I knew someone would say that. Alot of stuff actually and if you were to try it you would see.
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
I think what really differentiates these ROMs is the customization. If it's still just stock Touchwiz, I doubt we'd notice any difference.
But good job. Maybe when you have a custom theme or post some screenshots

So this is basically a faster version off stock KL1 or KMM? I really wonder if it is possible to do a stock Google 3.2 for this...touchwiz just messes it up.
Anyway good work though. Seems a bit faster.
Btw...why are you using screenshot er when there a whole button for it?
Hooray! New ROM! I'll give it a flash this evening.... Thanks!

Who rated this 1 star... Probably some idiot who hasn't even tried it. .__.
Awesome. Thank you to the probably 5 people who tried it actually out of the 396. Thanks.
Sweet. Another 1 star vote. I should just have this thread deleted. Thanks to everyone for supporting me and telling me what to fix. /sarcasm. Maybe I should give up developing since nobody seems to like my ROMs.
Dude you dont need to be pissed off these people, actually the development of the tab roms is getting slow and you are the only one who posted the last two roms, a great job just by posting these thread to keep the development ongoing, probably the one that rated your rom 1 star is 10 year old kid mostly just trolling around.
All the best.
yeah man screw the haters and be patient with all the feedback as that Android 4.0 alpha has taken all the attention lately. Just giver a week or so with the holiday season and all.
Thanks guys. The reason I'm getting irritated at the raters is because it the rating is so low, people are just gonna be like "oh, 2 stars. Nah, I'm not gonna look at it."

MIUI for our beloved N4: finally?

Hey MIUI fanatics out there!
Last night, I stumbled on this post on G+:
https://plus.google.com/103335486449456213484/posts/DHeDAbUeVsQ
The guy clearly runs a full blown android 4.2.2 MIUI rom on his GNex, which is pretty exciting, cuz a port to our device shouldn't be that difficult at this point. Or is it...?
Well, thought I had to share this. Let's keep our fingers crossed...
Regards.

MIUI on any device is like running a port of a port on a port of a port that was ported from a port that only works right 68% of the time. No thanks.
(Sarcasm caution)
What is miui..?
I've seen it mentioned since the nexus s days, never run it on a phone.
Not my thing..
Lol okay obviously I'm the only one who's excited

Bah, i m also looking forward to it!
People here usualy poo-poo MIUI, although they will claim anywhere else that Android=choice... Don't worry too much about this logic issue
OP, if you look at the MIUI forums, they have launched beta builds for Gnex and believe me there are a lot of bugs now. Once, it passes onto stable, someone or I might port it for mako.
Miui is always lagging way far behind Google on Android versions. And the version that they are on is usually very bug ridden. I like it but I hate dealing with major bugs, little bugs don't bother me to much.

Well, I ve tried V5 on the i9000, and it s simply so slow it cannot be used.
I also tried on the i9300, and it is quite nice over there, so there's hope.
But I agree, it is not as fast as a nice aosp/cm 10.1/AOKP ^^.
I like how different it looks, and weither I ll use it for a long time or not, well, let's see!
I d give a spin to iOS if it were ported, just for the sake of running it on the N4, ahha

TechnoBuffalo reads it as KRS368 on the Nexus 7 and KRS365 on the N4, but I see it as KRS36B, which makes more sense since recent builds of Jelly Bean have a letter at the end of the build number.
Pretty interesting stuff. It's exciting to see that they already have it running on the devices. :good:

Though I believe the spyware will be top notch, and will stop you from feeling terror even more.

Well, I see that people have figured out why I'm quitting AOSP.
There's no point being the maintainer of an Operating System that can't boot to the home screen on its flagship device for lack of GPU support, especially when I'm getting the blame for something that I don't have authority to fix myself and that I had anticipated and escalated more than 6 months ahead.

We don't know. And this is just rumors/speculation. Google hasn't officially announced anything as of now. Hopefully Google finally addresses the DOS exploit, removes the gallery app (since there is now 2 apps), and removes the remaining holo blue elements.

Update: Google has announced via Google+ that the update is rolling out today, and that in addition to speeding up focusing, it will add faster white balancing, less shutter lag, and the ability to pinch-zoom the viewfinder in HDR+ mode. New to any nexus

Here I am, regular XDA user and android owner of any devices, last phone being a galaxy s4 zoom which was bland at best.
Had the nexus 5, 2 days now and I'm really impressed, updated from 4.2.2 straight up to 5.0 no glitches or bugs noticed then again I'm still new to the nexus experience.
So far I can say I'm converted and can't see me going back to touchwiz and all that rubbish, stripped back pure google is the way forward.

Try turning off Location when you don't need it. Made all the difference for me. My battery is now legendary. Well..........

Yeah, I used my co-workers LG G3 the other day and felt overwhelmed by all the garbage on it. It's a great phone, but the software actually scared me. I put it down quick. No way I can use anything other than pure Google Android. Simple, yet powerful and quick.
Welcome to the good side.

Not on the N5! It launched with 4.4. We never had JB on this phone. xD

I tried buying a second one but they were out of stock as well... Was a bummer. I don't want a used one from amazon or eBay. I want a new one for in case of an emergency with my main one. I love this phone and will have it until at least next November
