we should not need to backup our imei with htc thanks to htc it's almost impossible to access the imei-partition (it's different from samsung devices, where you need to backup your imei)..

[Q] ESF/IMEI Recovery before anything.

Hey guys.
Im new here.
I have a S3 I9305 and i looked in the forum and found this thread about backing up the " ESF/IMEI " thing before doing anything else ( Root, Flash....).
Can someone explain me what are these and WHY should i do this?
Thanks in advance.
EFS folder contains your imei and may be corrupted during flashing. If it is, and you don't have a backup, you won't be able to use your phone's antenna, meaning no calls, sms, data.
yeah glebun is correct. id always recommend backing up your EFS even if not currently changing your rom
EFS does not contain IMEI on the I9305.

IMEI and sim Q&A

I've seen IMEI messages about no emergency calls when upgrading to Jellybean but would their be any problem with changing from one Jellybean romantic to another.
You may have lost your IMEI. Search XDA how to restore it.

I'm fine just bought a Captivate from Swappa with CyanogenMod, but want to put Pac Man Rom on it and was wondering if I would have IMEI trouble or not seeing how it's already on Jellybean.
Lost IMEI during upgrade process is a random occurrence.
OK thanks I'll just make a backup just in case.

IMEI/Baseband Unknown

Okay so I was flashing a couple of different roms on my s3 mini (GT-I8190L) and I guess I screwed it up and did not make a backup of any sort and now my phone will not recognize my sim and has an unknown imei and baseband. Is it possible to fix this? Any help is highly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Why not share your knowledge with the rest of the world? Isn't this the whole point of xda, to make our devices as accessible as possible?

If you have flashed TWRP there's an option for backing up PDS.
Try that.
Anyway never faced lost IMEI, but you face this problem, just flash firmware.
Also if u have CWM, there's an option to backup the modem partition as nandroid recovery.
