I've got a New Potato Tunelink I've been using with my old Verizon Galaxy Nexus successfully for about a year. Since that time I've gone through several ROMs and Android versions, 4.2.1, 4.2.2 and now 4.3. Bluetooth audio always worked fine with Pandora, Google Music and Pocket Casts.
I got a Verizon Moto X yesterday and while I can pair it with the Tunelink and it plays, music skips, stutters and is unlistenable. Voices sound worse, they're low or deep and also skip and stutter.
I've Googled and found lots of "bluetooth stuttering" threads all over (like this one) but none of the things I've tried have improved the audio. I've turned off wifi, changed wifi settings, tried it with and without the battery saver turned on. I took it out of the box and set it up yesterday, I doubt a factory reset would do anything for me.
I can plug in the stereo minijack and it sounds fine but the Tunelink was supposed to stop the inconvenience of that and did, until the Moto X.
Any ideas? Anyone experiencing the same issue?
I've been using J3 Bluetooth headphones and the moto x has been performing better than my GS4 did. I can put the phone down at my gym and walk 30 feet away and it doesn't skip or degrade.
I don't think it's the phone.
Have you tries re-pairing?

Yes, re-paired several times. If I go back to the Galaxy Nexus it sounds fine.

Just to be clear, I have the Verizon variant of Moto X also. Have you considered trying a replacement Moto x?
Also, the Moto X is bluetooth 4.0 and the Galaxy Nexus is 3.0. Could it be that your headset doesn't play nice with 4.0?

I haven't considered a replacement yet, the fact the stores don't have them is a factor.
Good point about 3.0/4.0, the specs on the Tunelink don't specify, I'll contact them.

I have my Galaxy Nexus which works fine.
I ordered this and it should be here today to test out.
I have the same issue with a Motorola Roadster 2. Static is pretty bad when on the phone with other people.
The Kinivo BTC450 Bluetooth Hands-Free Car Kit arrived yesterday and works great. It seems to be the X with the Tunelink. I actually like the Kinivo better as it also allows phone calls and the remote/mic allows me to start/stop music and podcasts.
I also have a Tunelink and am having the same stuttering issue with the audio. Works great with my Nexus 4. Not so much with the Moto X.
+1 for the diagnosis of the Tunelink not playing nice with bluetooth 4.0
I also am experiencing issues with my Moto X and bluetooth. Something tells me it is due to the custom bluetooth 4.0 implementation that Motorola used for Android 4.2.2. I figure that the only "real" fix will be waiting for the 4.3 OTA to add official support.
I tried everything under the sun to resolve my issues. I did a factory reset, un-paired and re-paired, tested on multiple devices and even did a RMA with Verizon. I called up Motorola prior to the RMA and told them about the issue and they said that it was a defective unit. I'm planning on calling them again today to let them know they have an actual issue with at the very least the verizon moto x.
As a follow-up, while my new Bluetooth unit does not stutter and sounds great, my phone now consistently reboots itself after pairing but not until I initiate playing something.
Thankfully the phone reboots quickly.
I am going to wait till the first OTA is released and see if it resolves the issue or not.....if it still has the problem then I'll have to try a 3rd RMA.
I have LG stereo headset, jlabs crasher speaker, and an eclipse headunit and i dont' have any issues with playback. Are you just letting things play or are you messing with the device while playing music? I know on both my Moto X (vzw) and GS3 i'd get some stuttering some times if the phone was under some heavy usage.
I'm experiencing stuttering on my VZW Moto X DE with my Tunelink as well. I had stuttering on my GNex on one version of 4.2.x but all other builds worked fine and it got much better when I upgraded to 4.3, so I'm hoping a new Moto X 4.3 rom will fix this...
Add me to the list of people having the stuttering issue with the Moto X (GSM Dev Edition) and the TuneLink Auto BT unit. Frustrating as hell. I hope the KitKat upgrade fixes it.
Bump. Tunelink is stuttering for me too. Must be incompatible. My tune link is wired to the headphone jack (not using FM transmitter). Sucks.

Not tunelink related but when listening to my Moto X in car with my Alpine UTE-42BT I notice a crazy amount of skipping/stuttering. Doesn't mater what music player I use. If I turn the device off and restart it seems to fix it for a brief time.
I created a post here about my issues. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48496071#post48496071
Anyone else having the same problems or have a solution it's driving me insane!?
apologies i forgot about this thread. i bought my TuneLink over two years ago. i emailed them and they are honoring my warranty by sending out a new revision of the device. its one they're currently working on releasing and i've been on a waiting list to get it.
so far i've sent in my current device and they sent me the same revision. i'm still waiting on the new device, which is supposed to take care of all issues. I have a Vizio soundbar at home and i have no stuttering issues. looking forward to the update.

What after market car stereo do you recommend for the moto x? Looks like the pioneer app stereo 3 isn't compatible. Too bad cause it looks sweet on an iPhone. Jailbreak just got released so I phones are looking sweet right now especially since they work with just about everything. Maybe I just need to be turned on to the right head unit though.
Have you guys bought anything like that as of late?
Sent from my XT1058 using Tapatalk
No... because the whole concept is severely flawed and poorly executed (even with an iPhone). I keep waiting for someone to get this right and continue to be disappointed.
If you really want something like this and aren't afraid to tinker, you'd be better off, IMHO, with one of the Android head units available on eBay.
Thanks

Not personally. I would suggest one that is at least running ICS (some are still on Gingerbread). I believe there is a forum for them on this site.
Last time I looked at them they were not quite ready for prime time either, at least not for something you want to put in your vehicle tomake things simpler.
I keep waiting for something done right. I can't believe it is taking so long. I mean, all we really need is a smart watch on steroids built into a radio.
I have the feeling this will be the year. Both Google and iOS are working with major car companies. Hopefully the aftermarket doesn't get left behind

What kind of compatibility are you looking for? The after-market stereo I have connects with Bluetooth, and I can make/answer calls and use Google Play Music just fine. When I do an "Okay Google Now" my phone mic is still what's picking it up, but it speaks to me out my car's speakers.

Do you know if it lets you do the opposite? I want play music and beyondpod and what not to play out of the bluetooth but google now to come from the phone. Specifically because on my car (VW Golf 2011) if you don't have the BT audio input selected it goes into a black hole. I like to pair my phone but sometimes want to listen to regular radio or XM radio and not be tied to play music and beyondpod.

I have used a IPhone 4S, Samsung Galaxy S3, Samsung Galaxy S4 and now my new LG G2. All the other phone have been perfect for streaming music through Bluetooth except for the LG G2. The music plays really slow and the songs skip about every 5 to 10 seconds.
I am not trying to complain and in about 2,000 miles I will be getting a oil change so there might be updates for my cars Bluetooth. In the mean time I am using a audio cable to listen to my music thru my car stereo.
Anyone with simular experiences with their Uconnect. I have a 2013 Dodge Dart Rallye with the basic stereo not the touch screen.
This is because Uconnect is not compatible with the G2, or vice versa, I constantly check the Uconnect website for updates but have none so far.
Sent from my VS980 4G using xda app-developers app
Yeah, I kind of figured! Oh well, I love my G2 and my Dart...even if they don't play well together. Bluetooth calling seems flawless though...it seems to be just streaming that glitches out.
I would recommend installing CM11 and see if that fixes it. CM team use different kernels and drivers. Might solve it. Seems like a lot of work and risk losing LG specific features though.

If you're on 4.2.2 isn't it a defect in Android specific to music streaming over blue tooth? I have a 2014 Ram 1500 and BT works perfectly for phone on uConnect but not for music. I am just hoping 4.4.2 drops for the G2 soon as I think that will fix it

Not displaying in my '15 Optima, but at least it plays, better than my last car.
G3 is also common phone with this problem. There is a fix for Spotify in app store though. Still can't find a good thread about this issue if it's strictly android or OEM related or both.

I don't have a solution, but I'll add in my experience...
2013 Mazda 3 with the bose system.
I had a Galaxy S3 and it worked perfectly with the car's controls and displaying album info on the dash.
I just upgraded to the Note 4 and the controls work, but I can't get album info anymore.
The S3 was up to date as much as I could get it- Android 4.4.4 with the latest music apps available. The Note 4 is also 4.4.4. The default music app does look a bit different, but I also tried Google Play Music. I played with as many settings as I could with no luck. It just doesn't display the song it's playing.
Supposedly this is because the Note 4 is using AVRCP 1.4 while the head unit is 1.3?
You have to send e mails and call and contact anyway possible. The factory units don't get updated unless the factory leans on the radio builder to make a software update. Phones get upgraded and so should radio to support the latest phones.
BAD ASS NOTE 4
Everything works for me. 2013 Toyota Tundra. Get song and album info. Spotify works as well. Worked on my Note 3 before and works the same now with the Note 4.

Yeah sucks. Using my my HTC m8 still as that is my main mode of music anyways. Still would rather my note4 work correctly instead of forgetting my m8 occasionally. Still can't find out if this is Samsung's fault or both Samsung and Honda.
I'll add to this and bump. 2014 Dodge Ram. No meta data on Uconnect head unit. My note 3 on my Verizon line displays just fine. It's definitely note 4 or latest android specific.

I love Hondas, this is the first American I've owned in about a decade and a half ?
When it initially paired, does it ask if you want to make primary phone and synchronize? Something similar? Ford uses 'SYNC' and it shows everything, plus reads out my messages. Proprietary Microsoft stuff I guess.
I'm sure it can be done. I'd Google it and start reading the Honda forums. That's how I fixed all my Honda stuff.

Is anyone having bluetooth issues with this phone? I continue to have the same issues carried over from the V30 to the G7 and now the V40. Specifically, when I connect the phone to my 2012 Subaru Legacy head unit, I get static on calls, but not when I stream media. It is quite frustrating that this company cannot sort out the bluetooth problems. For the record, it seems specific to a few vehicles, notably Subarus. My Galaxy S9 Plus does not have this problem., nor does my wife's iPhone.
Can't speak for Subaru but my Nissan Murano 2016 doesn't have any issues at all. Audio/Music and calls are all working as expected.
No issues with Ford's Sync 3.
Must be the lingering issue common to Subaru vehicles. It really is a shame that, from the V30 to the G7 to the V40, the problem continues. But, again, most users are not having this problem. Unfortunately, it keeps me from keeping this phone.

Out of curiosity I would try a stand alone bluetooth audio device that feeds into the head unit to bypass the factory bluetooth just to see what happens. Have you tried moving the phone around to see if it's getting interference from something? Just to test it out try connecting from inside your house and then go out to the car without your phone and see if you still have noise issues.
I can say one thing for a fact: Subaru Bluetooth sucks to the max. I've already replaced the head unit in my Outback due to Bluetooth issues and had some static or "road noise" as they say at the dealer on my WRX and thus won't replace it.

I tried bypassing the Subaru HU as you suggested, It was a cumbersome setup that caused other problem. With the V40, the static seems to be worse when the phone is in my pocket than out (the opposite of the v30). I also hear a difference when I move the phone around the car. At this point I have returned the phone. However, I am seriously considering giving it a second chance, because 1) great deals are to be had, 2) it is an underappreciated phone that I really like, much like the V30. and 3) I know the issue is the Subaru HU, not the phone. If I do purchase again, I will do some serious trouble shooting.

I might have thought something like that too. But when I had the V30, I had a similar (not exact) issue that others reported (suggesting a subaru issue in general, not my HU in particular). I have also had the HU looked at twice. Finally, It works well with my wife's iphone and my soon-to-be-sold GS9 Plus.
Not to rub it in, but the Bluetooth is working perfectly on all three cars, the OONZ(?) and the BOSE System at home.
Hope you get it sorted out.

I had not thought about that. Subaru has looked at it and found nothing. I am thinking of replacing the head unit at this point.

I work at Subaru, and the head unit is causing a lot of issues. Have your dealership perform an audio unit software update.. (crosstrek/outback/forester)

I did request an update for my Legacy about six weeks ago. The problem persists. Definitely an issue with the head unit. Thanks for confirming this.
I have decided to replace the head unit. More and more phones are having issues with it (V30, G7, V40, OnePlus 6, OnePlus 6T) and so at this point it is worth it to replace the HU. It seems as if the problem is spreading to other phones (software incompatibility, perhaps?) rather than being limited to LG's phones.

You're welcome, its seems to be the head unit, as a matter of fact i ordered a new one today for 2018 forester. Its even worse on iPhones, because whenever Apple updates vthe software Subaru would have to update the units to be compatible (Harmon Cardon).. Definitely not the phone, seems like you have tested with other phones and problem still persists.
