[Q] Please help with unroot gone wrong - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all
I'm hoping someone can help me fix my HTC One. I’ve just acquired the phone (from my son) which was bootloader unlocked via HTC Dev and rooted with a custom recovery installed (cwm) but still on stock 4.2.2. Due to a camera problem I need to send the phone in for repair/replacement and therefore need to get back to the pre root state. I followed instructions in a YouTube video and you can probably guess this didn't go fully according to plan and I need help to get this sorted. The phone is running but continually prompts me to download and install an update 2.24.401.8 (31.66MB) but when I select the option to install the phone reboots into the bootloader and just sits there. Bootloader is now showing tampered and relocked with a highlighted security warning below these, if I select reboot bootloader the security warning disappears but the update still wont install and, probably related to this, if I try to factory reset this fails and stalls in the bootloader as well. The phone is a UK sim free model bought from P4U and the software is as follows. This is the first HTC phone I've had any dealings with and I’m seriously out of my comfort zone here so I need a gentle lead towards what I need to do to get this fixed. Really appreciate any help.
Android version4.2.2
Sense 5.0
Software number 2.24.401.1
HTC SDK API level 5.34

for this OTA you need stock recovery too (not cwm), grab it from here and flash it via fastboot: http://android-revolution-hd.blogspot.ch/p/android-revolution-hd-mirror-site-var.html

Thanks for your reply. I've downloaded the recovery image from your link but when I try to flash it fails with "FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)" Any further thoughts? Thanks

you'll have to unlock your bootloader again via htcdev, then flash recovery, then "fastboot oem lock" bootloader again..

[Q] Error When Updating OTA

Hi,
Any idea on how to get rid of this?
I always get a message saying a System update is available - Software Update 1.29.161.11 (228.36 MB)
After downloading and opening it, I get a message saying:

As expected, I didn't get any solution on the HTC site. I haven't done any mods on my phone and it's still running an all-stock OS since I took it out of the box.
Here's my software info (my unit is the Europe version and I'm located in the Philippines, if that helps)
Android Version
4.1.2
HTC Sense Version
5.0
Software number
1.28.161.7
HTC SDK API level
5.12
Thanks in advance for the help :fingers-crossed:

that's strange.. the software number is correct.
and you haven't changed anything before? can you start your device into bootloader (power+volume down) and tell me what you see (does it show locked, unlocked or tampered?)? a screenshot of the bootloader would be helpful

wow, and you haven't modified anything? has this device been used before? your device is unlocked and even s-off!! :silly:
now it's clear why it didn't work. you'll have to relock your bootloader for an OTA.. the command would be "fastboot oem lock", but first you'll need to learn a bit about fastboot/adb stuff..
here's a guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281365
Thanks! Hope this works (crossing fingers). By the way, what's this update anyway? I read somewhere that the 4.2.2 update for the HTC One came in two installments... one just a few MB in file size, then the other is around 400MB.

You've changed the CID. you have a Vodafone handset but the unbranded CID so it won't work. You need to change it back to VODAP001 and then see what happens
If you want the unbranded handset, seeing as you're S-OFF, then flash the 1.28.401.7 RUU and then you can get the OTAs to bring you up to 2.24.401.8

Will it completely wipe my phone if i flash the RUU sir?
And if it's not compatible, will it brick my phone?
It will wipe everything so back up anything you want to keep first, and no it shouldn't brick the phone so long as you are fully charged

[Q] sprint htc one no su binary installed

First time ever posting in a forum, I am usually very good at figuring stuff out. So I am trying to Root my sprint htc one. I have unlocked the bootloader (highlighted in pink) I loaded recovery-clockwork-touch-6.0.4.5-m7ul (tampered highlighted in black).
trying to root the phone and nothing is working. I have tried the 3.2-RC3, r1-htcone-superboot,Superuser-1.0.1.7-CWM.
Android version 4.3
HTC Sense version 5.0
Software version 3.05.651.5
HTC SDK API level 5.45
Kernel version 3.4.10-g06ba99c, [email protected]#1, SMP PREEMPT

eMMC-boot 2048mb
When I run superuser from recovery it goes through fine, says finish no errors. When I run my root checker I get error of: sorry this device does not have proper root access. I run supersu and get: there is no SU binary installed and SuperSU cannot install it. This is a problem! If you just upgraded to Android 4.3 you need to manually re-boot consul the relevant forums for your device!
not sure if this is too much info, but wanted to make sure I had enough...I am at a lost. I have been working on this for about a week now.
Please Help
First problem I see is you used the wrong recovery you should have use this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2238324
Installing the correct recovery may or may not work you may need to re-lock your bootloader and run the 3.05.651.5 RUU
thank you
thanks for the quick response there, will be trying this out later tonight...

Try to get S-Off and flash the latest firmware from official android 4.3 release. If that doesn't help, then the only way to solve the problem would be to visit service center.

Ok i will try.
You can also try to download this, rename it to PO68IMG.zip, put that on your external SD card and reboot your phone into bootloader. That should flash the firmware package from the recent 2.21.708.1 OTA update even without S-OFF.

Okay, I don't know how I can make this more explicit.
1) Download http://amerhippus.x64.me/~johnny64/901S/OTA/2.21.708.1/firmware.zip
2) Save the file as PO68IMG.zip.
3) Copy the file (PO68IMG.zip) to the SD card you use in your phone.
4) Reboot the phone while holding volume down.
5) The bootloader should show a message about flashing firmware, let it finish and reboot; you should be done.

actually thats better than getting OTA
just download a custom rom like ViperOne or ARHD or InsertCoin and
copy it to your downloads folder
reboot your phone and hold volume down and it will enter the bootloader. go into recovery from here and wipe/factory reset and install the rom you copied to the phone. 10x better than waiting on OTA update
Edit: When rebooting the phone you may have a menu with the choice of booting recovery ..choose that

Hi
Apologies if this is a repeat but I can not get my phone back to stock.
I currently have CM12 Nightly (Lollipop) installed.
the Bootloader has the following info:
**Tampered**
**Unlocked**

The current recovery installed is:
TEAM WIN RECOVERY PROJECT v2.8.5.0
I have tried all sorts and just keep getting errors.
Trying to restore it back to stock O2 UK software.
Big ask, but could I get a step by step guide with correct links to drivers, software etc..
It is already out of warranty so I am not too fussed about removing root. But need to return it to stock firmware
Your basically doing what I'm doing atm. Mine is going in tomorrow direct with htc. If o2 are saying your device is out of warranty try sending it to htc.
On a side not I'll link you up with the guide I'm currently using to get back to stock

adb offline usually means your booted to the rom and you don't have usb debugging enabled
