I own a gray HTC One S and it's too slippery for my taste. It's far too easy to fumble it and it happens all time. Taking a picture single-handedly is a real danger. Frankly, my fingers slide through the back of the phone more easily than on the screen itself.
It's still a great phone, so I figured I would buy a new HTC phone and was looking into the new HTC One. But from the look of pictures... the material looks the same. Unfortunately I can only order it over the internet, I can't pick one up myself, HTC products aren't available in my country.
Can you please tell me if you feel by first-hand experience that the HTC One easily slips in hand? Also please mention which of the versions you have, the gray or the black.
HTC One Mini owners, feel free to comment as well!
Thanks!
Although I have not held an HTC One S myself, I can tell that the shape of the One should help it a bit, at least when holding it with one hand.
Here's a 360 view.
Just got done picking my One up from the floor.
I'm kidding.
Ok, so to answer the question, I think it's pretty slippery for lack of a better word. I have catlike reflexes so I've yet to fumble the phone. I'm hoping to get a grip case (thinking Diztronic) which may help with the slipperiness.
Most of the time the "slipping the phone in and out of the pocket" move, is what gets me worried.
I have the silver One, but I don't think color helps with the grip

In the particular case of the HTC One S, the different color has a slightly different material, or different manufacturing process at least. In photos of both the One and One S, the black version looks "rubbery". But perhaps you're right and the grip is the same for both.
Let's see if an owner of Black HTC One comments...

lol my wifes one s was more slippy than a greased up eel until it was dropped about 500 times then the scratches gave some good traction in the hand. the screen was f#cked however so had to give her my HOX, perfect excuse to get the one. Also my one is nowhere near as slippy as the one s was lol!!!

I just got my HD7 today and there is a noticeable amount of space between the part of the back you can remove and the bottom of the back. There is some creaking between the two back plates. The bottom backplate is higher raised than the top back plate. Is it supposed to be like this or did I just get one that was messed up. (FYI, I love my WinPhone7)
It is also on mine.
I've actually had 3 HD7s so far and each one had a different fit on the battery door. The one I have now has the best fit of them all but the first one, the top of the door stood out further than the rest of the door. The top wasn't flush with the side like the middle and bottom.
Quality control is lacking at HTC these days. The first one had signal problems. The second one had dead pixels all over the screen. So far this third one hasn't shown any problems.
I do believe, though, that the HD7 is the most gorgeous of all the WP7 devices yet. To me it's like a refined and polished HD2. It is everything I wanted in the HD2's appearance.
Make sure it is snapped into place properly. It may seem that it has seated properly but it needs a good press down with thumbs and it should snap into place and sit flush.

With the amount of devices HTC keeps churning out almost every second, its no wonder they are making mistakes in quality assurance on some of them.
I too have the same gap between the top cover and the bottom radio cover, you can see the sim through the gap.
Its odd that the Desire HD got a better unibody design than the HD7 and yet they are both practically siblins.
Would it have also killed them to put and SLCD instead of stantard LCD? I know amoled supplies are low and Samsung cockblocked Super Amoled distribution.
Such a large screen deserves higher quality.
I'm pissed off with HTC but I really really like my HD7 with WinPhone 7. Zune is fecking awesome.

I agree. I expected a bit more hardware wise also. But I look at it like a refined and polished HD2. It looks exactly like what I've wanted my HD2 to look like. I was even envious of the Evo when I saw it. But this HD7 is even better looking than the Evo. That sweet black-chrome surround and those nice silver sound producing grills. The use of soft buttons, getting away from the hard buttons of the HD2. The super clean rear side and the even-better-looking-than-the-Evo kickstand.
As long as I look at the HD7 as an HD2.2, I'm content. WP7 is the real glory of this device. Such a sweet mobile OS.

I've never had a HD2 so i cant comment much on your experience, but I agree that the HD7 looks beautiful and well designed, i really like the weight and the black chrome surround. I could have done without the grills, but I'm getting used to them.
What I would have like are that materials used be more akin to the Desire HD, less plastic more metal for the main enclosure, then plastic elements where its needed. Alas, I'm sure there will be a WP7 htc HD8 phone like that in a few months with built in 32GB storage, then we HD7 owners will be crying.
I'm quite content, i just need WP7 to be updated with some fundamental features missed at launch to appease the power user in me.
I just got it yesterday so I took it back to t-mobile today and they exchanged it for me. It was such a hard choice whether to get this or the mytouch 4g.

I had the MyTouch 4G and had data problems. Turns out it (Android) uses a separate data service than WinMo and mine was WinMo. But I hated the plasticy look of the front button panel and the protrusion on the USB and HP connectors. It ruined the aesthetics. I wished I had gotten the G2 instead. But I returned the MyTouch and later got another HD7, for which I am glad.

I would have much rather had the hd2's metal battery cover over this one, but overall I am pleased with the design.
My signal seems a little worse, but I'm not sure if its a defect or just the way it is. Trying to give microsoft some time to see if an update might be coming for the radio.
As far as QC for this device, my back is flush, but if you play with the battery cover, you can make a small gap to see the sim.
Anyone have any shots of their Incredible with the white battery cover on and the red one? Im contemplating getting one or the other and then a battery from Amazon. Just cant decide and I cant picture either one on the phone. If you can Id like to see front, sides, and back shots.
I don't have photos readily available of mine, however, I have an android green, white and red w/ carbon fiber battery cover. It really is a toss up between the red and white. They look great!

I would have to agree with you.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vAV1ApFOQ0I
I did this for my fiance. Not the video, but I copied the idea. Griffin Reveal case with White back cover, makes for a nicer transition in colors rather than black and white split right down the center. Looks really nice. The rubber sides are stiff enough so the phone doesn't slide out and the frosty back keeps the case looking nice even if you get scratches on it.
Start at 2:54 if you want to skip to the phone in case. Without the case the red back looks better IMO.

I'm going to have my paint department match the color and have them spray it at work then i will put it all together. I'm still waiting on them to ship it though.
i will post pics when i get ready to do it all.
edit
after emailing them they send me a tracking number. should have it today or tomorrow.
Post pics of the thing when it's done.
I am highly interested...
The carbon fiber i bought was a pre cut piece i found on ebay. Each piece peeled off a sheet and had adhesive to apply to the battery cover. I put it on a red cover.

Has anyone tried any of the numerous replacement housings from eBay? I don't want to put a link to a specific seller... but if you search "htc incredible housing" you'll get a slough of results.
I'm always a bit hesitant to purchase non OEM pieces for any phone... but some of the housings look pretty decent.

I purchased the metallic red battery cover which was non-oem and generally good quality. It wasn't perfect, but it was much better than most non oem products I've tried.
However my one complaint about it is that it makes the phone more slippery. It makes it harder to keep in your hand. Otherwise it looks and works great.

I looked at them, but you have to remove one of the screws on the front housing that has a void sticker on it. As soon as you remove that your warranty is over.

That is what a needle (removal) and a drop of glue (re-applying) is for.
Does anyone still have an Inc under warranty?

Hi all,
I know we will have to touch and feel & wait for through reviews when HTC One comes out. However, just like many of you, I pre-ordered one and I can't decide between silver and black. To be honest, I like silver and black and I don't think both colors can't go wrong. I am planning to use HTC One either black or silver without case nor film on the back or side. Which color do you think more prone to scratch based on previous experience? We know Iphones have almost identical material with similar color scheme.
get the silver one if you want scratch proof.
Silver will not show scratches. Black will show deep scratches, but HTC has much experience with aluminum phones unlike Apple, so they make sure to have the treatment go very deep to prevent the bare metal from showing.
No i both phones are anodized but the they did something else on top of the anodized aluminum to apply the black color. Then they applied some coating to avoid scratches. In short the black one isnt pure anodized aluminum. Search the video of the interview of htc's hardware designer

Hi guys,
I could not find a demo device from my local telco stores and based on what you have discovered, is HTC one silver or black version very slippery when holding it with one hand?
I used to have HTC one s grey version which had full aluminum unibody but that beauty was very slippery to a degree that I would drop it when pulling it from my jeans. So how is HTC one doing compared to one s grey version?
Thanks!!

I have seen the dummy black one in 3 store, it was not very slippery but the back was very smooth indeed. I am more concerning the silver one which I would probably get, just really want to know if that is the same as black one or more slippery cos I it seems like they are different finish.
Really want to preorder but cannot decide yet before I know how slippery one would be. Thanks for any help!!

Ohh sorry but I couldn't help you there. I didn't even get the chance to see the device other than on the internet. But thanks! I am buying the black one and glad it's great.
I've only held one briefly, but I did find it very difficult to keep hold of. It's the shape that's the problem - it's too thin at the sides, and because it's all curves and no edges there's nothing to get a grip on.

Silver. I've not encountered a black one, but as I said it was the shape that was the problem, not the texture of the surface, and the black one is the same shape.
Something I should have said earlier is that I don't hold phones the way normal people do. I hold the phone in my left hand and operate it with my right index finger, rather than holding it in my right hand and using my right thumb. That may make a difference.

I tried the dummy black the other day, given the fact that I have galaxy s3 at the moment, I have to say I felt harder/sharper edge than holding a s3.
Of course it could be all because the quality of dummy is no comparison to the real thing, that's why I am planning to go to Stratford westfield to try my luck if I could have my hands on a demo device today. will report back later.

Went to Stratford Westfield today, haha super happy got my hand on a silver demo device from 3 store. It felt much better than dummy phone I have to say, the edges are much smoother and surprisingly not as slippery as one s grey version!! I think this is because One is thicker than One s so it gives you better grip.
Overall very very very happy about the silver colour, may just preorder one tomorrow!!

It's similar to the Desire HD .. a bit slippery but not too bad!
I would recommend getting a nice case for it
Hey guys
just after some quick advice...
Was an early mover to the Htc one when first released but had no end of problems with build quality and call quality problems with them im guessing being early releases.
Currently have a Nexus 5 but to be honest i miss htc's skin and the way way the phone feels in the hand is just quality so considering a move back.
Am however concerned about facing the problems i had earlier so can any of you recent purchasers advise me what the build quality is like now and if the microphone issues have been sorted.
Also, really cant decided on the colour, had the silver before an with that i found i could use a bit of high grade sandpaper to smooth off some of the rough edges that i had on a few of mine however now the red is out i am seriously considering this.
Can you give me your opinions on what its like if you have one. How does it stand up to scratches etc and are there any gule/rough edges to the sides.
thanks
To be honest, I came from a nexus 5 myself. I had no end of issues with that device, and I missed the HTC skin and extras that came with my last HTC device - the HTC sensation. So I returned my nexus and got the HTC one.
I'm on my second device. The first had some small builds issues, iretunred it to Amazon. No problems.
Now the second device is pretty much perfect as far as I can see. I got the silver one, and this feels perfect. Excellent quality and the extras that HTC have thrown in are brilliant. I definitely don't miss the nexus. At all.
I would highly suggest coming back to HTC.
I reckon your build quality issues are gone, as my device has literally no issues.
The colour is more of a personal choice, I would never personally go for red anything.
The difference between the nexus and One is pretty much night and day.

the only concerns i have over the silver is that the white edge can look a little grubby after time and also the fact that i might end up picking up one of the early ones. The black looks nice out the box but shows marks, dust and finger prints easily and i work in a dust job so when handling the phone i would end up constantly cleaning it. Not so keen on the blue and just felt the red would be a bit different. Guess i will just decide when i get to a store.
No issues with my htc one either. Best built phone ive ever had. Black is my personal favorite color.
