Ok, i'm a newbie with techs, really need some help here, so now
Goal :
Install cyanogenmod 10.1 on xperia z c6603
That means i have to unlock bootloader in order to root.
Unlocking bootloader means wiping all data.
I have to use titanium backup pro to backup all apps and data.
Using titanium backup means root -.-
And there's a way to root my device without unlocking the bootloader beforehand, so..
1. Root my device with locked bootloader
2. Using titanium backup to backup all files and transfer it into another SD card
3. Unlock the bootloader once backup is completed (all data wiped)
4. Flash the cyanogenmod rom
5. Restore using titanium backup from the SD card to the phone
Again, i'm a newbie, is these steps gonna work, or there's a lot of error and would fail? Is there any other way? need some help here~
Don't forget to BackUp TA DRM keys for futher stock installations.
1. Root my device with locked bootloader
2. Using titanium backup to backup all files and transfer it into another SD card
3. BackUp TA
4. Unlock the bootloader once backup is completed (all data wiped)
5. Flash the cyanogenmod rom
6. Restore using titanium backup from the SD card to the phone

my current firmware is 253, is there anyway to downgrade to 350 or 434 without wipe all data or getting bootloop like the nfc thing, which wasted me 3 hours to get back on the working 253 via flashtool ==

Untick, (un-check) the wipe sections in flashtool will prevent wipes. Downgrade with flash tool and make sure none of the wipe bits, (at the top right of the main screen) are ticked and you should save all your data.
I used NUT's ROM from this thread to get onto .253 from .453.

Do check out the section on backing up your TA as eryen has said, just in-case you want to go back to pure stock. Read the thread below.

Treat the above threads with respect, you are dealing with critical things here. Full bricks are possible.
I know this sounds over the top too, but when you do flash CM, I would recommend you read the entire thread for CM. It's over 100 pages but I consider it all to be essential knowledge.
CM 10.1 isn't finished yet, it still has a couple of little bugs, but it is pretty damn good. I will play with other ROM's again, but CM will as ever be my default.
Good luck.

Downgrading to 434 without wiping data will end in a loop with updating NFC drivers.
Backup your data with Backup & Restore by Sony. And downgrade with wiping all.

I used back TA after I unlocked, so im guessing its no use ?
Dear all,
I really should not post this, but i will do so.
I have unlocked bootloader to install CM 10.2 NIGHTlY. Despite of the so much warnings to backup your TA partition i did NOT backup it, because i thought "I never bought music so i have no DRM keys". Oh boy, was i so wrong to think that DRM keys are not only music related.
However: i was not happy with CM 10.2 and relocked bootloader with flashtool and reverted back to stock wit a FTF file.
For now: everything works fine.
Now my question, i see that my trackid is working fine, it recognizes music, so it works, also i still have the bravia engine option in the menu. So i am missing something here? I'm a lucky bastard who did not lose the DRM keys with unlocking the bootloader? How can i check if my TA partition is intact with all DRM keys?? Also OTA updates are working fine (yeah, of course its saying no update available, only there was 1 walkan app update available and i installed it success)

Drm keys have gone for good then, BE2 won't work on pictures. Track ID works on unlocked bootloader anyway
Edit: of you go into service menu and click on service tests then security down at the bottom you will see the top two are unknown error that is your missing Drm keys

Nope, it's gone.

Nope they are gone your Drm keys are generated via your imei number at the time your phone is made, the only way is if you work on the production line of the Xperia Z and specialise in that with the software which is very slim and the imei number would most probably change which is illegal

I just want to ask that if I create a backup using TWRP or CWM before unlocking my bootloader. And after that if I want to relock it, will I get my DRM keys back if restore the backup which I created using TWRP or CWM?

Backup your TA partition with this tool - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292598
You can backup everything else with your custom recovery.

Hi guys,
I recently bought my first sony phone. Mighty impressed, i must say. Being an old HTC fan, i didnt expect i will ever make a jump, but this phone hooked me.
I have worked a bit for the development of HTC and some other phones, so i know what to look for and where to. Reading all the guides here, this is what i concluded if i want to safely unlock bootloader and flash some CM goodness. Please read my steps and let me know i am doing the right thing:
1. Root (via Doomlord thread guide. Flash old kernel, use exploit, then flash new kernel back)
2. Backup TA partition (for the precious BE2 and other magical SONY stuff)
3. Unlock BL the official or unofficial way, (as it doesnt matter because i can always relock it using TA backup , am i right???)
4. Flash CWM/TWRP etc and enjoy all the custom roms. (never look back)
Much appreciated guys. I will surely contribute with my own flavor of aokp once i get the basics correct. Not so soon.
Regards
neXusPRIME
Yes and Yes.
The steps you described are the proper ones
Yep that's the right steps to do!Have fun unlocking your device
Real benefits of unlocking bootloader? And can I use custom roms without unlocking?

or do we need a clean untouched device for OTA?

One last question before taking the plunge.
What if i flash a generic stock FTF (for my c5303 ofcourse), but not caring about the branding, will that also be okay for OTAs or will i have to repair/update via PCC SEUS?
In other words, how do i know which branding stock ftf do i need? About Phone page doesnt have that info i think.
I am not worried about system partition or anything, but i want to make sure i have stock recovery of my phone which will guaranteed work when i get the 4.3 OTA.
for rest, ill root, flash CWM and nand backup all things.
btw, it was so so easier on HTC

You can restore you phone with SEUS also with Flashtool ofcourse.
It does not matter what kind of firmware you flash as long as it is an C5303 one. I had dutch Vodafone Branded and I flashed a Generic EU one without issue the updates will be provide by Sony and not vodafone (my case).

Used sony update service to repair my phone,
Its back to unrooted stock 254
i think twrp messed something up.
Is it recommended or CWM only works?
on my old phone, twrp was more reliable.
There is something fishy with sony mobiles.
I know the modding stuff is more safe due to flashtool being always available for the rescue, however common stuff such as unlock, TA, recovery and etc are much too complicated for the newcomers.
even being n RC for porting TWRP to two htc phones didnt help me there.
Stuff dont work the first time.
In my case, the problem was,
flashtool worked the second time for flashing 254 kernel
doomlord kit worked the second time for rooting (i really dont know why, but it wasnt related to kit, something up with usb debug n permissions)
installing CWM didnt work the first time as well, (not the fault of installer, rather first time fails coz u give SU permissions just then, so something is missed, 2nd time, the SU permission is already there, so it works)
and ROM flashing almost always needs wipe dalvik/data/cache etc otherwise you might mess something up...
Its a lot safer if i see it one way, because these steps are more foolproof, but on the other hand, a lot more complicated, then say HTC or samsung phones. especially as i havent unlocked my BL so being cautious at every step.
Anyways, all things are fine now, using existenze ultra and enjoying it every bit.
Will step more carefully now on, using above as experience. Thanks all. This thread is closed until i have another problem
i am a newbie dealing with Android as I have been BB user for a long time, although I can get around with rooting devices but the problem is that while rooting my Xperia SP while bootloader unlock was allowed but I didn't fully read following thread from beginning (stupid I know although I am an engineer )
now while reading your post someone said something about losing DRM keys and Bravia engine which is now seems very worrying to me and I can see in Settings>Display that Bravia engine is selected but I am not sure now if it really works
maybe it is not working as while receiving calls contact pictures imported from Facebook are blurry all the time, whatever i do to enhance them but they are still blurry
any help to restore Bravia engine and why i should lose it as I am following sony official method of unlocking bootloader

Official or Unofficial, you lose the DRM keys + BE2 on unlocking BL.
Only method is backing up a TA partition BEFORE unlocking... then when you have unlocked and restore the TA partition, the BL gets LOCKED and all DRM+BE2 are back working.
OK I understand but I didn't take backup before unlocking bootloader so I have even lost drm keys forever
but what if I installed custom rom will I get back BE2?

Frankly, you dont need to backup your stock rom... just use the backup n restore app to make backup of all important stuff. it will be stored on SD card...
Then do whatever you want... when you want to return, just lock the bootloader, run sony update service and you will be back to stock...
Someone confirm what i wrote above...

I'm in the same mess, I remember back when I followed the guide that it basically said "If you're at latest update, you can unlock the bootloader but there's no way to make a backup of your TA." No biggie I thought, I'm not gonna miss the bravia much and I really really wanted to get rid of the bloatware...
Now the newest PS App is also DRM-Locked, and there's no way to make Remote Play work either. Guess i'm gonna buy a Z3 tablet and keep it stock as a reminder of my failure
