[REQUEST] A thread on discussing firmwares - Galaxy S Advance I9070 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm requesting to create a thread to talk about official Samsung releases for our phone
Be it stability, battery backup, features, etc
I tried to create the last time but, the thread that I created disappeared and I don't know... Someone erased it!!

Someone who respect and apply the rules of this forum.
Powered by CM10.1

Is what I'm trying to do wrong then?
Apologies
I just had this idea when I witnessed many posts writes "this new firmware xxx was released on sammobile, did anyone test it, is it better than xxx firmware?"
And those kind of posts were on the wrong sections and threads.

If you search the threads, u will find lot of such threads, in the CORRECT section too. Now, by creating a new thread, u r adding to the clutter of useless duplicate threads (I am not abusing u or anything).
You have more than 100 posts... U should know better.

Thank you for the information
By the way, can you redirect me to such a thread?

There are instructions everywhere on how to flash it. Also, thats an old version, the new KJ3 released today
step 1. dont post questions in dev forum
step 2. ???
step 3. profit
I'll get straight to the point....
Despite stickys and forum announcements most of us are still finding ourselves becoming terribly, terribly vexed at the amount of [Q]'s cluttering the dev section...
Therefore, from now on, if you do not follow the rules outlined below, you will be infracted. Break them again and you may find yourself unable to post anything at all on any forum!!
[Q]Surely thats a bit harsh aint it??
[A]Not really....
We've tried to be nice about it but that clearly doesnt work.
If you cannot read and abide by the simple rules in this sticky then I dont know how you're going to manage to hack your device without running into trouble.
The Dev section is NOT for asking questions.....
The Dev section is NOT for general topics..........
All threads posted MUST be prefixed with a description of the thread, [ROM] / [Kernel] etc etc.....*
*(Not planning on being particuarly strict on this. You guys (the devs), know how to title a thread.... just a pointer for new devs.)
Basically, unless your thread is to actually release something or discuss something of a very technical and n00b unfriendly nature, it doesnt belong here!
Pretty simple really.....
If you see something that shouldnt be here then PM me....
I will try to check in as reguarly as I can but I have a few sections to keep an eye on and believe it or not, a life outside XDA
Yes thats right, there is life outside XDA

This is a direct quote from the sticky at the top of this forum. Read around before you post. This would have been received much better in the Q&A Forum. Because its a question. And nowhere close to a development.
Thread locked. xCRZYx, post your question in the Question and Answer forum. This is development only.

prateekgujral

Is he locking anybody elses threads for no apperent reason or just mine?
I post a link to the ics port and he locks it and says all ics development convo should be in his thread that consists of 3 people saying nothing about an existing port that boots and is smooth with wifi and bluetooth.
Why you mad son?
He actually deleted my post and I don't know why
Why not just discuss it in his thread like it says to?

Why would i discuss someone elses rom in a general OS thread?
I was linking to RootzWiki to a ROM not trying to start a hangout.
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using xda premium
Guys,
1. Till the time an ICS rom is ported or developed within XDA, no other threads are allowed.
2. neckbonest - your post was deleted as you were directing members to another site, which is against XDA rules.
3. Threads are closed to keep the fora clean.
4. Opening threads like this will not help.
5. I would have expected the OP (calling me "son") to have taken a bit more matured step, like PM me. Many of my fellow mods will construe this as "non-cooperation with the mods"
Cheers!
oh BTW - This thread is closed now. Please PM me if you have any questions.

Because it's not your ROM, and this is why we don't allow threads in dev forums to just be a "pointer" to a ROM on another forum.
The dev forum is for devs who wish to release their own work.
prateekgujral obviously started an ICS thread for all things ICS related, so that several hundred other threads don't start appearing, cluttering up the forum...I would have done the same thing. Thus, you really should have just linked to it in his thread.
Also, please refrain from starting any more threads questioning a mods actions...it doesn't help anyone. If you have a question or concern about a mods action, contact a senior mod or moderator committee member.
But in this instance there's no need as prateekgujral has done nothing wrong

[Q] Cifs Manager / nls_utf8.ko / CM10(Invendor)

Hello
i have a small problem and i need your help.
I have installed CM10 (Invendor Alpha5) on my I9001
I have mounted a NAS drive with Cifs Manager.
It works fine but i have a Problem with the german letters like ä,ö,ü
I have read that i can load with the CIFS Manager the Module nls_utf8.ko (one file from the Internet)
It will not work.
Perhaps i have the wrong module. Can someone tell me where i can find the correct one, or is there a other way necessary.
Thanks

Stock jelly bean themes

Ive been looking for the themes the xperia z had as stock on jelly bean (expecially the Xperia one from the last release, I liked the lock screen from that). I actually had some backed up with titanium, but they will not restore it just freezes.
I searched but found everything but these, are they already uploaded here? If not has anybody got them?
Thanks
Edit: Not used to how questions work, the question section seemed to be restricted in its description but apparently it is not. Can a moderator move this and apologies.

Firstly the question section clearly states "Questions about your Xperia Z operation, performance or specific development questions belong in this forum" and my question did not match this (and aslo doesnt match the General section) so I thought i was doing the right thing asking my question about themes in the Themes section. If I got that wrong then it wasnt because I didnt bother trying.
I would have gladly accepted some advice, informing me they might be in a secion a lot of people wouldnt think about, and seached myself without the need for such an aggressive response. You could even PM me telling me this forum is the wrong place to post and I would have immediately removed the thread instead.

Hei ,
Cool my friend.. Why unwanted talk ? Why should i PM u ? Before posting something in XDA u should read the forum rules. This is not the right place to ask ur questions.. I am trying to help u here and u r talking unwanted things.. No problem..
And u can't remove ur posts.. U need a moderator support for that.. Better first read XDA rules my friend..

I did read, I already showed you what it says the Question section is for and I used that information to decide how to post. I said in the previous post if I got that wrong it was not because I did not read or care I actually made an effort. If someone makes an understandable mistake while not completely used to the forum atm there is no need to be aggressive about that in your reply that doesnt help anyone.
Its not like I went trolling through the site I just posted a question where it seemed, after reading and checking, was the correct place but it turned out I was mistaken.

I wasnt trying to argue, I was explaining and fully accepted what you said
I have found one thread so far, it has the older version of the Xperia (black) theme unfortunately which has a different lock screen. I'll keep looking but it might not be uploaded. Thanks for telling me which section to look in, like I said I would never have thought to search in it just from the name.

Is their a way to filter / Block the QA Bot Posts

Who come up with this QA Bot post ?
it's useless Clutter to the Q&A Section ... The Developers almost never come here so why the QA bot post ?
This area is managed by fellow users and a few friendly developers, you know who you are .
So who come up with the QA Bot idea ? Developers or the Moderators ? Just curious
Agreed!! It's getting kinda annoying now [emoji35]

What I don't understand is why Q&A are still allowed in the main discussion section of DevDB threads even if a Q&A "bot" thread exist. Look at ARHD DevDB main discussion for example, there are still tons of questions asked and answered there every day even if there is a Q&A bot thread here in the "One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting" section... I can't disagree when you're saying its's useless clutter.
I understand that the purpose of this change is to make the questions more visible so pple can answer them even if they are not following a DevDB project. This is also to help devs keeping their thread clean by moving the "q&a" part from the main discussion to another location, but this is not working...
So my question is: Are Q&A still allowed in DevDB discussion? If yes why? If no, why members are not redirected to these new Q&A threads?
Thanks for any answer (moderators) :good:

Well having read that thread I see and understand what there hoping to achieve. And for newer development threads I can see the benefits.
But It does seem a bit messy at the moment for threads that have already been running for some time. Taking ARHD again as an example. The main Rom thread is already vast, with an answer for almost every possible question posted multiple time's. How many times can you post "you can't install this Rom with CWM"
But still just a few posts away find "now my phone won't boot, I used latest cwm which works fine with suchandsuch Rom"
Now it has a new Q&A thread where the same questions will continue to be asked by newcomers to the Rom and then answered probably by the same bunch of helpful users. You know who you are . So you make a good point here @alray. Will development threads now be monitored and have all non development related questions moved to the appropriate Q&A?
Putting a link in the main dev thread simply won't work. Let's face it most users don't even read the first page of a Rom development thread before flashing a rom. That's why we see so many repeated questions.
As I say I can see what there trying to do. And if it works I can definitely see the benefits. But to make it work will take a lot of time and effort maybe. (not that I know much about the moderation of forums or forum admin tools, maybe it can be automatically policed some how ) :dunno:

Principle is good but not correctly integrated to the forum imo. They should add some sort of control when posting in a DevDB project, for example, when you click on "post reply" button, this could open a box where you select: "I'm about the post a question/answer" , "I want to post a review" , "I want to post a bug report" , "I want to request a feature" or "I want post something about development of this project" then redirect members to the correct DevDB tab or simply automatically move the post to the correct devDB tab (discussion/features request/Q&A/Bug report/review).
And the dev discussion section could be reserved for RC/RD/RT etc etc as OP's request

I like the multiple choice thing, would definitely be a better approach imo :good: Another thing that sprang to mind after I finished my last post, Unless it is correctly handled, how long do you think it will take for people to start putting the same post in both the Q&A and the main thread hoping to get answered quicker. Not very I don't think.
