This is a beta release of a program I tossed together to make it easier to perform some common tasks on the HTC Vivid. It will:
Walk you through the Bootloader Unlock process
Capture your Device Token for submission to HTCDev
Apply the Unlock_code.bin file to your device
Root your device
I expect a few bugs, however I have tested it on my laptop with positive results. I was able to Unlock the bootloader and lock it again. Everything is bundled so you don't need the Android SDK. The goal was to create something similar to the multi-tool, but for OS X. This is also different from the other Mac tool as it isn't using Apple Script but instead Objective-C. The user should never see a terminal window if all goes well.
Report any bugs if you want, and I'll get them fixed asap. Remember this is beta and I'm not responsible for your device, etc etc etc.

No problem. I like little projects to try new stuff. I only tested it on OS X 10.7 but I compiled it for 10.6 so it should work with Snow Leopard. Unsure about 10.5 compatibility.

Are you able to flash boot.img and recovery stuff with this tool. By the way thanks for this. Not many tools made for us mac users.

I'm adding CWM to the next version that will likely be out today. It will also have options to flash user-specified boot.img, system.img, and recovery.img files.

I got a message saying "You cant open the Application VividTools because it is not supported on this type of Mac" I am running a Macbook with MacOSX 10.6.8.

Thanks for the info, I'll take a look right away. If its an original MacBook it could be running 32-bit OS X, which may explain as the binary may have compiled for 64-bit.

Its a Macbook 1.1 that I got in 2007... So I'd say that probably the issue.

Thanks for this. I managed to unlock the BL with ease. I have not been able to root though. I see a green icon I would describe as "refresh download" and then a red exclamation "!". I end up having to pull the battery, then just boot normally. Tried it a few times; no luck.
Setup: OSX 10.7.3 / HTC Dev checkboxes enabled ( debug etc. ). Am I missing something? I usually am.

I decided to test this while upgrading to ICS.
So I used it to relock my bootloader.
It said it was relocked succesfully but then said something about USB error. Probably because after relocking the phone restarts, so i think this was random.
After flashing the RUU, I tried to use this to unlock the bootloader again.
But it wasn't recognising my device. So I gave up and did everything manually whne finally I realised that the debugging mode wasn't on. Duuuurr. Turned it back on and the phone was recognised again.
However, rooting didn't work at all. It only took me to the Recovery screen. Nothing happened.
I loved the app, though. Finally someone's giving the proper attention for us Mac users. Hate having to borrow my mum's laptop in order to do the whole thing.
Keep up with the good work, you're on the right track

Failed to Root
It did not recognize my Vivid - no device detected.

Make sure you have USB Debugging switched on.
Have been testing out and seems to work well, the rooting section rebooted me to the recovery like someone else mentioned earlier.
I will keep an eye on this thread for updates.

Running Faux's TDC Kernel on ICS¦Sense 3.6

I unlocked my Bootloader with no problem but I can't get it to Root the Vivid. I do have USB Debuging checked. The phone get's to the red triangle and goes nowhere from there.

Please make this for osc tiger PPC version. I have no other way to unlock bootloader. I need help

This isn't a carrier-subsidized phone, it's a Nexus. Unlocking the bootloader and thus root is a feature fully supported out of the box.

Nothing special here, you can easily root any Nexus device.

We buy Nexus devices because we expect its bootloader to be easily unlocked (fastboot oem unlock) and easy to root, and the direct Google updates.

Wow, amazing.. Or not. You only need one command to unlock a nexus phone, it is a built in feature.

im glad everyone knows how to unlock the bootloader, that doesnt give you root though.
with custom kernel that means someone had to have pulled the stock image off using an exploit that works on 4.2 (in which case the device in question may be fully stock except root). with custom recovery it isnt impossible to do without the stock kernels but it certainly makes it a bit more time consuming.
so while im happy everyone knows its indeed a nexus device this proves 1 of two things, someone already has a 4.2 ready exploit (doubt it would go public any time soon tho), or some for of custom recovery is already made for the device.

The only purpose of an exploit on a device with an unlockable AND relockable bootloader is to save some people from wiping /data. That's it. You can achieve the exact same thing with unlock->root->lock. There was only a couple people who seemed to possibly be implying that unlock bootloader means root. The rest of us were saying with open source recovery and fastboot oem unlock and the fact that exploits don't matter, the rooting of this device is a forgone conclusion.

As i said in my post i get that custom recoveries are used for that. everyone seemed to be bashing this thread but as i said it holds more valuable information than most of the threads on this forum. if someone made a custom recovery then chances are day one of shipment it will publicly available and everyone can root using it, its a step towards development regardless, you wouldnt shun someone showing off TWRP/CWM on the N4 saying "oh its a nexus that was easy.." its the same work to get root.
if this was rooted using an exploit then even better news IMO, sure its "fairly" useless on this device (although using it you can then grab dumps of the images and make recovery etc). but there are a lot of devices out there who could use this exploit.
but yes i agree that this phoen would have had a way to root very quickly regardless, just amazed to see people think they could root it the same way as they did their other nexus devices (which prolly had recovery before they got the device)

Excuse my n00by question here, but if I were to unlock my bootloader which I am going to do as soon as my N4 has some charge, that isn't going to give me Root which is what I want but eh.
Is there any known working method of rooting this device at the moment? Is it likely that Bin4ry's ICS/JB exploit will work here?

Yes...so I realized I have to unlock the boot loader first...time spent on HTC website... Then it wasn't showing up in adb so I have to figure out the drivers or adb issues first

I don't see why you would have any problems.

Perhaps someone here can help me. I did an RUU on my phone after I had already rooted and installed a custom ROM because I was having some problems with music playback. The RUU fixed the problem and I thought I should try to unlock the bootloader again to begin the rooting process but when I did my phone got stuck in a bootloop. I was able to install a recovery after unlocking but I was not able to flash a boot.img to my phone again. Any help would be great. Thanks!

But the problem is when your device has hboot 1.44 and using Windows 8.1 while in fastboot...adb works fine

I upgraded my primary computer to 8.1 a while ago and was having all kinds of trouble I think the main problem was the hboot but this is very helpful thank you

What hboot?
fastboot works just fine once you update your phone to 1.55. Until your at 1.55 though you're boned if all you have is an 8.1 machine and need to upgrade or downgrade.
As an example, if you use the official CMinstaller it'll change you over to hboot 1.44. If you decide you don't like CM, you can no longer RUU back to stock because fastboot can no longer talk to your phone.
(i'm still watching the video but haven't found yet.. i appreciate the time and effort that went into the making of the video as well as the info being shared, but 13+min how-to videos where the author is winging it (ie no prepared outline/script) can get a bit tedious)

Uncheck and re-check USB debugging then look for the RSA popup on your phone...make sure you check the box to always authorize from this PC

So what do I have to do with an AMD chipset device? The intel extensible drivers won't work if I'm thinking correctly.

Is this really development?
Not that I don't like the content of this thread -- seems good stuff. But is it really well placed in 'original development' as opposed to, say, Q&A or some other general thread space with a [Guide] nomenclature?

Why not just change drivers?
I may be wrong but i had no problems using fastboot and adb on my windows 8.1.
I have Intel(R)_USB_3.0_eXtensible_Host_Controller_Driver installed though instead of the regular microsoft drivers.

USB 3 works on ABD but fails on Fastboot as "Samsung" option doesn't show up but "Android ADB" does, but when driver is chosen, it installs then disappears from Device Manager.

I was able to get ADB working fine, but not Fastboot. I found that rebooting into the bootloader helped me find the Samsung drivers and install, then Fastboot started working.

Can't get it to work here on Desire S. What drivers do you have installed? Only Samsung ones? Ihave only USB 2.0 BTW

Problem with fastboot drivers
Hi, I've probably only one problem.
I run Easy Unlock Tool and program checked ADB driver that's ok ,but when phone run fastboot program has says: waiting for device.
And windows says : Device is not recognized.
I think theat problem is in fastboot drivers.
Any solution?
My phone : HTC Wildfire S

I will definitely be adding TWRP flashing for the NP in the next update of the toolkit.

2.3 and 2.4 do not seem to be working. They keep suggesting that the Nexus Player is an htc device when attempting to unlock the bootloader

Any development here?

Do you have to have your NP connected directly to the pc for this? or can I ADB through the network?

just picked up a NP player today. installed the drivers and such as prompted when i started the toolkit. But just says "unauthor" at the bottom. says nothing is connected. Does the NP need to be plugged into a TV at the same time? I dont have a laptop so i have to plug it into my PC on 1 side of the room in order to use the toolkit.

I use the same toolkit and yes it has to be connected to a TV as you have to put the np in recovery mode. I modify them so you can get every channel available.

I just bought two of these awesome players had all sorts of issues with this toolkit even working and the other main toolkit nothing would unlock my bootloader..
Downloaded WUGfresh NEXUS toolkit and that didnt work either so i ran manual mode from wugfresh then did the unlock code myself low and behold it worked lol

we have had a nexus player for almost a year now and are currently working on a friend's to unlock the BL and root to put Kodi on for them. now... my question..
has anyone successfully unlocked the bootloader AFTER taking the 6.0 OTA? we thought "hey to make it easier on ourselves and them we will just leave lean back instead of going with lollirock, take the update and put kodi on for them" we were a little over zealous because now our desktop (linux)terminal won't recognize the device and we have tried mannnny cables we know to work.
any advice or anything helps.. you know how it is to get the gears turning ? hoping that we didn't update and now there's no way to do it. I have a feeling ..

You can unlock it via adb/fastboot, type the following in the command shell. Fastboot oem unlock. You may have to type it twice but beware as it will erase everything on the nexus player.

like I said.. it wouldn't see the nexus player and we tried tons of cables.
but we got it.
by using this tool (just had to install windows)! thanks a bunch.
