Anyone have issues where every half hour or so, the phone shows "searching for GPS" in the notification bar and then "location set by GPS" a bit later? I can't figure out what app is doing it, I don't have maps open or anything.
Any advice?

Google Now should be the one doing that. That is normal.

has anyone else seen this? i have looked through all of the settings, and i cant seem to find anything that would cause this. at first i would notice the gps satellites option turning on, but i didnt know what caused it. after owning it for 3 months, i noticed it happens when the battery meter turns yellow. is there any reason for it do do this? is it trying to kill its own battery?
at yellow battery, i see the gps transmitting signal at the top, and in the location settings, the "gps satellites" option is checked.
thanks for your help

do you have lookout installed and activated? signal flare broadcasts a signal before the battery dies so you can locate its last location
Yeah, sounds like Lookout or Cerberus... Or some other anti-theft app getting ready to broadcast the last known location of the phone before it dies.

Did anyone notice constant "Searching using GPS" notification after Lollipop update
Hi guys,
I have Note 4 Exynos version N910C and I have just received OTA Lollipop update for my region. After update everything was ok until the day before yesterday when I needed to change the sim, so it was the first restart after the update. After restart I noticed that there is constant "searching using GPS" notification when I am in the building and seems to went out when I am outside, which means there is some app is constantly searching for GPS and it also seem to drain my battery. So I was inspecting in the settings under Location saw that Yahoo weather which I use as lock screen has reported high battery usage. So tried to clear the app data and voila....the notification went of and everything seem to be at normal. Then I tried to restart the phone and the notification displays again and remain again constant. So now after each restart I have to clear data from Yahoo weather to turn off the "searching using GPS" notification and for my phone not drain the battery. I think it might be some flaw in Yahoo weather after Lollipop update. I did not do factory reset after OTA update so the problem might be because of that.
Just wanted to share for someone who might face the same issue.
I had it on the 910F. Turned off that option for that app. User daemon? I think it was called. Check GPS log. They say by clearing it's cache it'll fix it. But I disabled it as I don't use the widget.
I think that's the Unified daemon which provides data to samsung apps like location for weather.
Yes. That's the one. I have it disabled and it worked wonders. GPS works perfectly, except for that widget.

No need to be rooted. Find it in options. Location. And there it will be with high under its usage. Everything else should be low....
Well that sucks for us that use the widget...
just remember that when you disabled it, you wont get the latest or regular weather update in your note 4.
I've noticed that since the lollipop update I lose the last known position on the GPS. This is used to get a fast fix. So after a reboot I need to go outside to get a GPS fix. Over I've got the first fix the subsequent fixes are sick, even indoors. It's like the GPS is not using a-GPS or Wi-Fi location based services to get an approximate fix to speed up the first fix.

I switched from the Moto Voice app to the OK Google because the Moto X voice app is terrible. Everything was working great until a few days ago. OK Google only works from the home screen now. Does anyone else have this issue? Is there a work-around to fix it? Thanks!
I'm assuming that the "From any screen" option is checked in the Google app?

Correct, and I did the training. It works perfectly on my Moto G. My Moto X has been acting quirky so I am getting an advanced replacement from Motorola. They are now charging a $25 "Premium Fee" for advance replacement. I hate this company ever since Lenovo took over and this will be my last Motorola phone.
Having the same issue.
Starting to regret this phone deeply.
I just realized that I hadn't checked it since my update to 5.1, and it no longer works for me either. It is not a feature I use, but it is a shame that it is broken.
Me neither, which makes me think it's a server side error.
Broken on my Moto X running 5.1 stock or CM 12.1 and my Nexus 5 in the same scenarios, so I think it's a bug in the app not with our phone.

These certainly sound like the most likely causes, however, is it strange that we are the only people talking about this? If it were a global problem, I would think more people would be complaining.
I had this exact issue and figured out quite a simple fix.
All you need to do is going to the "Moto" app and disable the "Moto Voice" function. The moto voice function apparently takes control of the mic at all times, stopping google now from doing so. Once I disabled the Moto Voice, I could enable Google Now / Ok Google from all screens and didn't get the "microphone is in use, please restart device" error message anymore.
Hope this helps

This is not the problem being discussed here. The problem is, after being setup properly, the "OK Google" command only works on the homescreens. Not on the lock screen, not when an app in is the foreground. Are you able to use "OK Google" in these instances?

It seems intermittent ever since the last Motorola OTA I received. I can't seem to do OK google from my homescreen anymore although it will occasionally wake from lock screens and in an app if I use it, it will pull me out of the app to the Google Now search screen. I think the whole thing is pretty much bugged to be honest :/
I've found just going into the google search and hitting the mic button much more reliable and thus faster.
Hi everyone. After deleting "Motorola Boot Services" a notification from "Device Management" started to appear in status bar reading: "com.motorola.easyprefix app no longer supported, tap for de... " I've searched a lot about the issue, but no one else seems to be experiencing or asking about it anywhere so far. Quite frankly, I can't assure such a notification is directly related with deleting "Motorola Boot Services", but I can say it appeared right after that, although reinstalling "Boot Services" doesn't fix a thing. Also, tapping the notification for details, just leads to a "blank" screen without any details in it. No problem is apparently related to this notification yet though, it is showing way too frequently and is becoming a bit annoying. Doe's anybody had experienced, noticed, have an explanation or even fixed this problem?...
This is strange because I to started getting this error within the past week. However I never deleted any program and did not delete boot services.

Perhaps this is just another app no longer supported by Motorola. They actually did so with some other app(s), although this is annoyingly throwing a notification all the time...
so what do we do? got this as well, i havent removed anything
go in settings - apps - all - find device manager/management and turn its notifications off
Hi all,
Google maps says "GPS signal is lost" after a few seconds when I lock the screen. If I don't lock, there is no issue. How can I solve this? (I am on stock Android 9, not rooted phone)
By the way, I am on "optimized" power mode. Does anyone who is on optimized mode, face this issue? Must I change it to "high performance" to not to have that issue?

I"m in the same boat, this just started happening to me as well. Would love to know if I can put Maps in a "do not kill" type setting.

Settings/Device care/Battery/(3 dots)settings and look at the sleeping apps options if maps are there just tap and hold and select remove.
I just login to tell this way. I found google maps was in that list. I removed it. I hope it will solve my issue
