[Q] Wifi Tether suddenly stopped working with root on JB - Motorola Droid 4

I've been running Android-Wifi-Tether version 3.3 beta 2 on my rooted D4 with JB without a problem until just recently. I successfully used it just last weekend without a problem. However, when I tried to use it just a couple days ago, it wouldn't broadcast for some reason. I couldn't pick up its signal on any of my laptops or other phones and the data counters never updated. I tried changing the device profile, changing some settings here and there, but nothing seemed to fix it. There are no errors shown in the logs, either. I tried uninstalling the app and reinstalling it, but that didn't do anything either. I'd really like to avoid re-flashing my phone just to get the wifi tether working again. I can't think of anything that changed in the past week that could have affected this, either. I didn't install any apps, I didn't change any system settings, it just suddenly stopped working.
Does anybody have any idea what this could be?

[Q] Market killing 3G connection

I have a weird problem with my AT&T galaxy tab. For the past couple of days, each time I launch the Market, my 3G connection is killed and I can no longer access the network, and of course I cannot access the market. As soon as I kill the market app, my 3G connection comes back.
I cleared the data and cache of the market app, did not solve the issue. When I uninstall the updates of the market app (reverting to the original ugly market app), everything works fine, but it then automatically updates itself and the problem comes back. I assume this is a problem with the market app itself and not my device (hopefully).
Has anybody else experienced this issue and found a fix?
I am running stock ROM with third party apps installed enables (done it with superoneclick: root, enable third party apps, unroot).
I have the amazon app store installed, so I can still buy new apps, but I would like to be able to get updates for the apps I have purchased from the market.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
What modem are you using? Does the problem happen when you are using wifi? I think the JMF modem that is available for overcome rom is weak and I get many dropped connections and slow data speeds.
I am using the stock ROM and stock modem, I have never flashed a ROM. It only happens with the Market App.
Same issue for me. I have a rooted stock rom.
I have the same issue. Also stock rom and rooted. When WIFI is on (and connected) the market works fine.
I have been beating my head against this since I bought one. I am rooted using....I think I used Super One Click......stock everything else with non-market apps enabled. I originally thought that Root had broken it; however, if I unrooted, reset to factory, I still had the issue.
After many hours at the ATT store and on the phone (and swapping the device once and SIM card twice) I had an epiphany. a Factory Reset does NOT wipe the Internal SD like I thought it did. It leaves /mnt/sdcard/ intact. So, just for kicks, I began looking at my folders here. I MAY have discovered something. Market started working after I restored this folder to it's factory content (deleted any folders having to do with Apps in general).
I can typically hold power, deactivate Data connection, wait a few seconds, re-enable, and I get 3g back (at least for browser and other apps, Market still fails).
I have PSX4Droid installed (PSX Emulator if you don't know). There is a folder here named /.psx4droid, so I renamed it to /psx4droid (If I remember correctly, doesn't the "." hide the folder......too long since Linux class). I then deactivated/reactivated my data, and the Market started working properly.
I am not sure if it has to do SPECIFICALLY with psx4droid or just the "Hidden" folder in general, but now my Market works. I have 2 more folders in this location (/.downloadTemp and /.FileExpert) that may/may not cause any problems. I will post my findings.
.....Okay, so I'm going to type what I write now....Market just failed. Now I'm renaming /.FileExpert....Let's see what happens......
Damn. Still fails. But I'm tellin' ya. There is something in this folder causing it.
Or maybe some app is causing it to break......I have Amazon App store installed, what about you guys?
I do have Amazon App installed.
Anybody with an AT&T Tab not having the issue?
Same issue here. I had the Amazon Appstore installed but uninstalled it probably a week afterwards. Rooted running stock, everytime I go into the market it crashes the 3g. I found a folder in sdcard/android/data that had a bunch of appstore files in it. I deleted that and still having the same issue. I have removed all 3rd party apps so I have no idea what is triggering this. Please help.
P.S. I can access the market on WiFi
This also happens to be sometimes, if you tap wifi on then off again your 3g should come back and work fine.
swyped from a galaxy far far away...
Unfortunately what you proposed did not work. The market is killing the network connection each and every time. The network connection only comes back when the market app is not active anymore.
Since everything works fine when the market upgrades are uninstalled, I really think it is a bug in the newer version of market. Hopefully, the next update will fix this.
Maybe when Gingerbread is out!
I'm thinking this has more to do with us having installed amazon appstore before it was supposed to be. Somebody is mad at us
Has anyone made any progress on this situation?

I really wish I would have made more progress. After all the trouble I had with the device with this issue, I was seriously monitoring the apps I installed and then testing the Market. I gave up after a while since I am on Wifi 90% of the time and hardly ever do I access the Market while driving. I still have a feeling that something in /mnt/sdcard is causing it. Like I had mentioned, I could wipe back to factory and the problem was still there. I seem to remember that it only started working proper after I had cleared this location of crap. I would think that a Market update would see a larger group of affected tabs than just a handful of us. This doesn't seem to be a widespread issue.
That being said......I have decided to move on to Gingerbread. Maybe that'll fix it
Hey guys, try this. Worked for me and my Data problems with Gingerbread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=13751694&postcount=6
Basically create a new APN inside Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names. Only set the APN to "Broadband," save it (Menu button) and select the radio button for it. Instantly fixed my data issues.
Thank for the tip. Unfortunately, it did not work for me. I am running stock 2.2 and waiting for the official 2.3 update from AT&T.
Good Luck. I thought about waiting for the official.....but I also have a Captivate. We didn't get 2.2 until MONTHS after the rest of the world (I think it was like 5 or 6 months later). I didn't want to wait that long again.

Could you please report if the problem fixed with Gingerbread ?
At first I didn't have ANY cellular data until I created a new APN mentioned in the tagged thread (APN Broadband). Now I have no issues with Market. I wish I could trust AT&T to release Gingerbread in a timely fashion, but I know better. So instead, I flashed Overcome.
P.S. I really can't enough of the CRT lock animation......damn I'm such a geek....

[Q] Can not access android market on wifi I HAVE TRIED everything

OK. I see a lot of this, in a lot of threads. I have a bionic. This is actually the THIRD one I have had since I got it (now outside of my 14 days of course). The issue as brief as possible: all three phones i have rooted, ROM'd , factory reset, reinstalled stock ROM, re ROM'd , factory reset, etc.. OK now so you know. Wifi alone works well with browser. Sometimes (and I mean extremly rarely) I can get wifi to act with 3G IF I turn it on AFTER i'm in the market but then it is 'stuck on downloading'. I called verizon tech support three times: first two times they said that is normal as verizon network is secure and the droid market needs thats. Third time I was told it happens to 'some' bionic devices and is a known issue. WTF is the deal? I've tried FXR and I work in IT and even my open wireless connections from people I know do NOT WORK. Only works with 3G/4G on.
Really ? No one else ? i know that's not the case at all because the guy I work with was able to get to the market thru wifi just fine until last nite and today. It isn't just me
I am accessing the market on WiFi just fine. Though, to be honest, I rarely check, and I often install apps from https://market.android.com/ (I installed three from there yesterday while on WiFi - it worked just fine.)
The phone is two days old - never rooted.
Even weirder still...
see that's another werid thing. The times I try to go to market.android.com/rl] I get web page can't be displayed. anything with the words 'market' or 'android' give the page can't be displayed (over wifi). anything else at all on wifi internet wise works perfect.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the issue... but have you tried connecting to a different WiFi AP? It sounds to me like access to the market is being filtered. Can you get to market.android.com on your PC while it's connected to the same AP as your Bionic?

Plus one for this. It's the wifi not the Bionic.
Yeah I can get to the wifi on my laptop at both places and can get to market.android.com from both computers. somethng else funny I can't download from market.android.com on the pc to the phone with wifi on; it never downloads. I don't know what the hell the issue is but it's frustraing. i'm hearing another of my friends lost access to the market over wifi yesterday all of the sudden. It's got to be some sort of coding as the wifi does work, just not for the marketplace

Flashed back to stock and now wifi won't connect amongst other issues. :-\

Been having horrible troubles with my bionic since the update. Not that it was stellar before it, would drop data often, but it was better then now. After the update the phone randomly reboots while on calls and the tethering app fails often. I have to power cycle phone to get it to work again. Since I'm paying for the tethering feature I'd like it to work.
Well I had only rooted my device and flash Bigndad's theme on my device. That was it. I had flashed the restore to the theme that was in the thread. But I think it was missing stuff cause i failed the update calling out various things that the theme re-skinned. Nothing I had edited or touched on my own. So I replaced the "bad" files and updated. It passed and updated, however, my phone sucked badly. Tethering was really hit or miss. And random rebooting while on calls SUCK.
So I did a factory reset last night at work. Still tether wouldn't function right, even with nothing else installed. So I used r3l3ased and forever root to restore me back to stock OS the phone came with and rerooted. Now my system should be perfect and working with no issues. I did the update fine this time. No hiccups. However...tether is still broken and hit or miss at best. Seems to stop working randomly and I still have to reboot phone to get it to work and now my wifi on the device will not connect at all to my home network and it worked fine before the flash. Just will refuse to connect. Sees network but can't authenticate.
What is left for me to do? Honestly? Is there a red lite or fastboot flashable file of the current updated OS that works that i can just flash over mine and hope it fixes the issues? Getting frustrated. I can kinda deal with no wifi since I have unlimited data but would prefer to use wifi at home. And i pay for the tether. I need it to work. Don't get why it is so flakey.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated. Humor is always appreciated. ;-)

[SOLVED] Connectivity issues with WIFI and data

So, today my N6 started to show some strange signs when I was browsing internet when connected to my home WiFi. There was an exclamation mark together with WiFi icon showing no internet connection, but still I was able to open certain pages and use Facebook and similar apps, while many web pages were not opening, or some did open but partially rendered.
First time that happened, I rebooted my phone and everything worked fine, but now that doesn't fix it anymore. Same problem is with my data connection, so it's not a problem with my home network.
Anyone knows what's going on?
EDIT: Full wipe and fresh install fixed this problem for now. First tried wiping everything and then restoring from backup, but it didn't fix the problem, then I reflashed only radio and boot.img but that did not help either. I wanted to avoid fresh install, but it seems that was the only solution. Guess I'll stay stock for now. Still have no idea what caused this problem...

Only SSL connections are loading

TL;DR
Upgraded Android to latest on T-Mobile, only SSL connections load. Also can't send MMS messages. Factory reset after the upgrade, still having issues. No idea what causes it, but rebooting the phone sometimes makes the issues go away for a while (might as well be running Windows). The issues seem to happen at random but all happen at once and don't go away once they start.
I have an odd issue that after a little bit of Googling, I haven't been able to find anything on (outside of app developers forgetting the internet permission in their manifest file). I held off on upgrading my phone from 5.0.1 AOC9 for a long time because I had rooted it right after the release and I just never got around to it when others confirmed they could root newer versions. Everything was working until I decided to use Smart Switch to upgrade from AOC9 to the latest 5.1.1 DOJC. After the upgrade I used Odin to flash TWRP and Unikernel for root and it worked fine for a few hours until I noticed I could no longer send MMS messages (receiving them works perfectly fine). I also noticed certain apps would tell me I had no network connection and I knew this was wrong because apps like Facebook were still working perfectly fine on 4G and my WiFi. Eventually I started clicking links from Facebook and noticed some would load and others wouldn't. It took a few links to notice that anything that wasn't loading over an SSL connection would give the message "This site can't be reached. $SITE refused to connect. ERR_CONNECTION_REFUSED"
After all of those issues started happening I finally got pissed enough to factory reset, forgot about FRP and had to factory reset again using Smart Switch. I flashed TWRP/Unikernel again and I'm right back to having the issues. Has anyone ever come across anything like this before? I'm getting frustrated enough that I might just swap out the sim and use my G3 for a while until I can sort this out. If there is any kind of log I can post that will help I can post that as well. I tried using adb logcat while attempting to open a site that fails, but I didn't see anything that looked useful. Just calls to my keyboard and chrome opening.
EDIT: Completely forgot to try pinging. I am able to ping any normal HTTP site from a terminal emulator. They're all reachable from my phone. I came across a post from a Comcast customer with a similar issue, although not for Android specifically. The work around was to connect to a VPN service, so I also tried this. Still no luck.
