Really interested in the Moto X...

So I just bought an LG G2 on Verizon last Saturday for $550 and while I love the phone, the Moto X is really tempting me to return my G2 and buy an X instead. I've already got CM10.2 on here so its nearly the same as what the Moto X is running and can currently get around 5-7 hours of screen on time with 19-24+ hours off the charger.
From what I've read, the Moto X gets fantastic battery life and despite its lesser specs, it still performs wonderfully which I've witnessed first hand. And the fact that the camera is no longer complete garbage is a huge plus as well. I'm not a big camera guy, but when I use it I need it to take good pictures.
So, do you guys think I should keep the G2 or return it for a Moto X? Really struggling with this decision and could use some insight. Has anyone else been in a similar situation?

Just ordered one yesterday when I saw jcase had an updated root method. I currently have an mdk s4 but the phone is just too big and I don't like capacitive buttons. To me it's just a matter of build quality... The s4 feels big and cheap and after playing with the x it doesn't even compare

I just got my MotoX a few days ago (coming from a Gnex). I cant believe I didnt get this phone 2 months ago. Best phone I've had thus far. I am on the phone for alot of hours during the work week. Probably 100+ calls per day. I have never been able to not have to charge a phone mid way through the day before. I got home today with 23% batt left, with 15hrs of charger and 4.5 hrs of screen time, 4 hrs of calls.
I thought i wanted a larger screen phone, dont think I ever will now.
A friend of mine has an S4. Even though the S4 with CM10.2 gets higher "benchmarks", the fluidity of the stock moto x is much better. It is just a better overall experience. Like I said, not sure why I didnt get this phone 2 months ago.

Okay I was running stock on the G2. I liked the knock on feature on the G2 but it was inconsistent. The UX felt very much like touchwizz and even tho it was quad core, I noticed some lag. The one thing I like more on the G2 over the X is the screen and camera.

True, there is some occasional lag on the G2 but overall it's pretty fast I think. I'm also intrigued by the moto x but the AT&T version has no development.

Bro if your rocking stock on the G2 then you'll love Moto X stock. Pretty much straight vanilla with useful tweaks. Active notifications is awesome with that touchless control and moto connect. And these tweaks are flawless not a single issue.

I'm not too much of a stock android guy, I like custom UIs and I'm running cleanrom XE on the G2, it's pretty solid with insane battery life. But I like to try new phones so maybe I'll give a shot to the moto x

See I just don't know if it's worth it when I'm already running stock Android on my G2 with no problems while also getting crazy battery life. It's just something about the Moto X is drawing me towards it, not to mention that Verizon is rumored to be getting MotoMaker on Nov 11th. My main concern, just like another user said, is that development doesn't seem that active for the Verizon variant. Or maybe I'm just blind?

I'm also waiting for Verizon to have access to Moto Maker (need at least 32GB of internal memory of I can't have an SD card) with fingers crossed that the wooden backs will be an option at that time.

I've had pretty much every high end phone and I love the moto x. I bought a iPhone 5s only because they just happen to have a gold one while I was there. I sold that, made my profit, and went back to buy the moto x. I really can't think of anything negative to say about it.

the benchmark tests are BS. They provide some insight into things, but as many reviews of phones have pointed out, the moto x actually does better in a lot of areas in real tests than other high end phones with better processors. I think the moto dev team worked hard to create a phone with lower specs that works faster than other phones because of all the new coding and filing systems they put into the device. This is also one of the reasons that development isn't as fast. A bunch of things are new to the dev community that moto was using and it will take some learning. I bet a lot of phones move to this type of coding and processors running their own thing, which will then make dev easier for phones like this.
hashcode said in his forum on SS that this was the hardest device he worked on getting SS to run properly with. How the system is set up and runs commands is different from other phones so benchmarks are not really benchmarks ya know. They are old benchmarks used just to test a processor, not a phones ability to perform tasks in real life. It's real life benchmarks beat out the htc one in many respects.

I have this phone and totally love it! I have hd every phone you could imagine all the galaxys, htc one, lg's all the iphones except 5s and it is the best phone I have ever had. I have a Nexus 5 coming and I may just return to sender because of how much this phone just works

I just recently purchased a Moto X, coming from a motorola Atrix 4G and I'll tell you why...
Motorola has always made good hardware. They have a integrated circuit and electronics division that creates very robust designs. Their consumer and industrial hardware has been top of the line since the beginning days of the 2-way handheld radio. They make good hardware. Solid and rugged stuff.
Now, the Atrix had some problems regarding software support. It was never officially updated past gingerbread. I was fine using the kernel that was developed, although it wasn't perfect. This was a major issue for many that pushed them away from Motorola. I still loved the ruggedness of the once-flagship phone.
However, now that Google and Motorola Mobility are one, I feel there is a good chance this will not be as big of an issue in the future. I really feel we will have the best of both worlds with Motorola now -- excellent hardware as well as long term software support (whatever long term really means nowadays). At least, it's a 'risk' I'm willing to take.
So far, I am extremely happy with my Moto X.

I was an android convert from an iPhone 5. I started with the G2, it was a pretty nice phone but I couldn't get used to the size. I operate my phone with one hand most of the time and couldn't secure it well. The actual hardware was nice. I switched to the moto X four days later. I can wholehearted say that I don't miss ANYTHING on the G2. I really do like all the features that Motorola built into the X and Android.

I too had a LG G2 and returned it for a Moto X on verizon. My main concerns were lesser battery life and camera.... and, a little bit of a concern was the smaller screen size. I too also had rooted and placed CM10.2 on the phone.
My comparisons....
G2 Pros:
1) Screen is slightly nicer/crisper on the G2. Not by much, but it's noticeable to me.
2) Screen size was nice to have... not a deal breaker, but nice to have.
3) More development community.
4) Battery life was AMAZING
5) Camera was very solid
G2 Cons:
1) Back buttons!!!! If the LG G2 had not decided to place the buttons on the back, I would still have that phone.
2) Knock-on feature, while useful, didn't work all the time. So, you have to pick up the device and try and find the damn back buttons to check a notification. Or look like an idiot stabbing a black screen.
3) Slimy back. I felt like this thing would fall out of my hand. Please note, I really don't care what the phone is made of. I've owned the Note 2 and didn't feel the same way as with the G2. G2 was just slick in comparison.
4) cheezy LG UI. Why can't they just do like Motorola and improve camera/knock-on stuff and leave the stock apps to google?!?
Moto X Pros:
1) Form factor and build quality is really fantastic. Feels so good in the hand that the screen size argument vanishes.
2) Sound/speaker quality is noticeably better than any phone I've had. A little strange that I noticed this, but I've seen it mentioned before from others as well.
3) Active notifications are pretty handy, and am quickly getting used to them.
4) Always listening device... verdict still out on this, perhaps a bit gimmicky.
5) Prefect implementation of AOSP. improved in some areas, and left everything else alone! Hence, no needing for new ROMs. Root, yes. But only for Xposed stuff.
Moto X Cons:
1) Battery not up to par with LG G2... but very good. I get a full day and I'm a heavy user.
2) Camera not quite as good compared to the G2... but the sensor is faster...perhaps a tradeoff.
Anyhow, I think the Moto X is a winner. The fact that I had to

Doesn't really need support. The out of box experience is virtually flawless.
Moto X on Verizon

Would love to hear from people on this. I am on Verizon and in the same boat. Anyone had the S4 and switch to the moto x?

I moved from the htc one to the Moto X and I have no regrets whatsoever. Better battery, better in the hand, no bloatware. It's like a Nexus you can buy on subsidy.

What you get from HTC One and GS4:
Better hardware, often lag and stuttering, more dev support, 1080p displays, slow updates, better camera, worse battery life
What you get from Moto X:
Worse hardware, no lag ever (games and applications load noticeably faster than the one and the S4), less deuv support, 720p display that has great color, updates faster than most nexus devices (got 4.4 on moto x faster than on Nexus 10, 7, 4, htc one gpe, and gs4 gpe), worse camera (but starts up faster and is still reasonable quality), easily 20+ hour battery life, active notifications, touchless control, virtually stock android, and much more...

Active notifications. Enough said. I can't go to any other phone because of this feature alone, and I've had the s4 and HTC one. If you enjoy aosp then this is even better

Because s4 had amoled, you could use Dynamic Notifications, which was the same thing. It actually had even more customizability than Active Notifications.

I actually didn't care for dynamic notifications, yes it had more features but I didn't work as flawless. 99 times out of a hundred when I grab my phone and look at it the time would show and I could unlock my screen. I have hit my power button to turn on my screen maybe 10 times since I bought it.

True. It was not flawless. And I love that the Moto just turns on even with the slightest nudge. For the s4, that option sucked.

You are in good hands... Moto X doesn't need that. You thinking about that Samsung Galaxy S4 at this point? Please don't buy that plastic crapped with ugly touchwiz. At least the HTC one is a beautiful piece of a phone.

Yep, the lack of development us because all you need is root. There's no need for custom ROMs. All you need is stock, or root + xposed framework.

I have owned all 3 devices on Verizon. I started with the S4, and returned it for what the salesman said was a silly reason. The reason being the back button was on the wrong side of the screen for my preference, and I couldn't reach across the screen with my thumb and hit the back button easily.
I traded it back in within the 14 day trial on the HTC One. I really like the HTC one and the speakers. I also like the ability to turn it into a TV remote control. It has eye appeal, people think it looks cool and ask what kind of phone it is. I didn't like the power and volume buttons that are flush. I found that I had to look and make sure I was pushing in the right spot.
I really wanted to try the Moto X though, with the notifications and voice monitoring. It was a bonus that I was able to get kit kat on the second day I had it, and even cooler that it was rooted the day after that on kit kat. I usually trade phones once a month with people on craigslist just so I can try out something different, but I really like this phone.

You'll probably get biased opinions since you're posting in the Moto X forum, but here's my $.02.
I've been doing the xda/android/rom thing since the original droid. This is the first phone that has felt fine out of the box and I haven't even bothered to check to see if root and/or unlocked bootloaders have been achieved. My last phone was the GS3.
After looking around at everything I realized that all phones are basically the same. You interact with all of them the same way and they provide information in the same way. The only differences are size and quality issues (camera, screen, battery, etc...). The only unique phones are the Note 3 (with its active digitizer/stylus) and the Moto X. I was really leaning toward the note 3 since I jot down a lot of notes at work. Then I got my wife a Moto X. Two days later I had to have one. The real kicker for me was how it changes how I use my phone. Active notifications are nice and really handy, but I'm probably one of the few who uses touchless control a lot. The hands-free texting works great (especially while in the car). I use Google Now reminders several times a day. If I'm commuting and I remember something that needs be done, it's great to just say it and have my phone remind me. I find that I'm using Google now a lot. For example - If I'm cooking and need to make a conversion, I just ask the Moto. Or in the morning I ask it what the forecast is and what is my agenda while I'm shaving. It's surprising how much that step of unlocking/touching my phone used to prevent me from using it.
Now the downsides. The back of the phone looks great, but I think the front looks a little cheap. Battery life has been pretty good, but not as stellar as what others are reporting. It still is plenty to last all day. I will miss my GS3's removable storage and memory. I don't take a lot of pictures, but I hear that the Moto X's camera is so-so compared to the others.

I'm not going to go in-depth. I had the HTC One, wife has the S4, and I now have the Moto X. I personally like the Moto X more than both the former phones. Due to many reasons. S4 is too big for my taste. I always thought I wanted a big screen, but after using it I don't like it. The HTC was just too oddly shaped for my taste, and the whole Sense thing ruined it for me, as does T-wiz. After flashing an AOSP ROM on both of those phones, they were just knockoffs of the GE phones. Meh. I love my Moto X. Traded my HTC straight across for it and don't feel bad at all.
I was also worried about switching from 1080p to 720p and see no difference. I may be biased because I have one, but until I actually got it, I thought it was such a stupid phone due to the HTC and the S4 hype, and me thinking, "Nothing is as good as these two phones!". Boy was I wrong.
Oh yeah! Touchless Controls and Active Display are the ****!
Oh yeah x2! I was a serious flashaholic with my other phones and saw how slow the Moto X development seemed to be. That also had me shying away from it, but damn! I don't feel like I need to do ANYTHING. Only thing I did was root simply for Xposed so I can use GravityBox to change some colors.

I did on Sprint. I can't go back to the S4 or any samsung product until they clean up touchwiz. Plus all those features are not necessary. The main selling point of Samsung is the camera, but I feel the X is passable. At this point its Motorola or Nexus devices from here on out.

I just sold my S4 and bought a Moto X, super happy. I love this phone. It does everything well and the size and feel is amazing. The only downer is I don't want to put a case on it and ruin its ergonomics, however I want to keep it safe.

Yes it is. Some other website called it the best android of 2013.

I sadly disagree. Just got mine and am pretty disappointed with it compared to Nexus 5. I like the Active Notifications and "always on" aspect of it, but the rest of the phone feels like a compromise.

I'm happy and contented with my moto x phone love the the dual-core main CPU saves battery life since it is lower-powered than other devices, but is still more than capable of multi-tasking and running the most intensive Android apps and resource-intensive games.

Not the best but probably one of the best android of 2013..

I'd agree with that. I may have gone nexus 5 if it were vzw but I love my Moto and ain't looking back. My roomie just broke his work phone and got it replaced with one and loves it as well. Specs seem to be just fine nothing lags and I love the active notifications. The look and feel of the phone is wonderful

Its one of the smoothest android experiences in a body thats probably the most comfortable to hold out of all the modern android handsets. but yea between the great battery life, customizability and always on/active notifications its one of the best if not the best android phone out there. really the only compromise is the somewhat mid range cam. But even the cam has had some pretty major improvements since release.

Wow, I feel the exact opposite. I have both phones, and use them both the same amount, and feel like the only part of the N5 that isn't a compromise is the *size* of the screen (the screen itself is the biggest compromise, IMO). I think the Moto X outshines it in every other way. The N5 feels slapped together to meet a price point, yet the X is a highly refined experience, inside and out. Considering I've also owned the HTC One and the GS4, I can safely say the Moto X is hands down the best smartphone of 2013, and all time pretty much.

I had the G2 and the Note 3. If I had to rank them in terms of which one I like the most overall I'd say:
1. Moto X
2. G2 (close 2nd)
3. Note 3 - Don't miss this phone at all.

I switched from an S3. I like everything about the MX better than S3. The screen looks so much better, the size is perfect for me (I'm 5'6" and have relatively small hands), and i love all of the usable features Moto has put into it, as opposed to dumbass "motion" features from Samsung. (No, I don't want to wave my phone around to change homescreens while moving widgets. And why do I have to do the stupid "Magician wave" to take a screenshot. pwr + vol dn is all I need)
My wife says it looks like a toy phone and couldn't understand why I went to a smaller screen (she has an S3 as well).

Would you trade for an HTC one?

given HTC's track record, the sheer size of the phone and the HTC skin, personally i wouldn't. have you played with one yet? have you played with an X?
i don't understand why people buy anything (let alone phones) without knowing that's the choice they want. i can understand remorse after the latest/greatest, etc., etc., blah blah, but if you've done any research, would that have swayed your decision to start? did you want a One, but couldn't afford it? Did someone hand you an X? are there specs/features on the One you wish the X had that's causing your decision?

i think the X is a great phone. if someone wants to trade their used One for your brand new X, you should be asking yourself why.
also, if you don't want the X, you can sell it online and get whatever phone you want for full retail.

Hey, ive got a one. I would say if youre more music/want some more rapid dev, go for the one. If you dont want sense, thats cool, just flip to GPe and youre good. Theres an abundance of kernels, ROMs, and just all around great Dev for it. Its already rolling out unofficial 4.4.2. My advice is get the AT&T because thats the dev one.

I know i can get one for $75 at costco, for the 16gb all black, but id be willing to set up some kind of reasonable deal for more or something, if youd be willing to sell. Since you can buy a One for i think $50 (or something last time i saw at the mall) youd still make a profit no matter what. And get that new phone

just remember, you're talking subsidized, locked contract pricing. OP can sell his X for full retail on eBay or Swappa or something similar.

I have both, and this is what I would say:
I prefer the Moto X as a day to day device overall, though you really can't go wrong with either device. The Moto X excels at being a very useful handset that has features I genuinely use all the time. Active Notifications is the best thing since sliced bread, especially if you use your device for work. It really helps you triage items you need to address quickly, at a glance. The voice activation is also great if you do a lot of driving and can't be holding your device (which is against the law where I live).
The other item worth noting is that the size difference is pretty big. The Moto X is a very, very compact device for its screen size, and is the more easily pocketable of the two, and much easier to use one handed. The One is actually quite big for the screen size it has, though it still rests nicely in the hand. And of course the One is just gorgeous as a device, the aluminum casing is stunning.
Where the One really shines is as a media device. The screen is absolutely gorgeous, probably the best on a mobile device today. The speakers are also amazing, with great volume and clear sound. I like the screen on the Moto X despite the lower resolution (I like amoled screens a lot), and the difference in quality isn't as pronounced unless you are directly comparing them, but the One is clearly in a league of its own here.
Basically, it comes down to what you value and what you plan on doing with your device. If you are looking at more of a day to day tool that has great features that help productivity in a nice compact package, stick with the Moto X.
If you are looking at something more for fun, videos, games and music, and don't mind the extra size, the One may be the better choice.

I am not a shutterbug, so take anything I say in regards to camera with a grain of salt. My opinion is that the Moto X takes better daytime pictures and the One takes better low light pictures. Neither one produces anything amazing. The One has Zoe, which is a cool feature that helps you get the perfect shot, while the Moto X has the double wrist flick to start the camera.
If I had to pick a winner it would be the Moto X, for my use, which is just the occasional snapshot at get togethers or when I need to remember something.
Battery life is better on the Moto X in most things. Standby time is better on the Moto X. Video is better on the Moto X. Gaming is better on the Moto X. The One does seem to do better when it comes to network related activity like heavy web surfing or streaming music.
Neither one is a best in class when it comes to battery, but either one will likely get any but the heaviest of user through the day.

I just got an X 2 weeks ago.... And am very happy.
What I did... And my advice to you... Read through the one XDA section thoroughly and the X.... You'll get a good feel for each phones strengths and weaknesses.

I changed over from a One to an X and I don't have any regrets (aside from some annoyances with 4.4 but that's a different subject), the X is a fantastic phone. Both have their strengths and weaknesses.
I agree with jellmoo on the camera, the X takes some pretty good pictures in decent lighting, better than the One but the One takes better shots in low light plus it has many more options and settings. The One has the better speakers though the X's speaker is clear and loud as well. The One's screen is very good but I personally prefer the X's OLED; if you value absolute clarity the One's screen is better, if you value color and contrast the X's is better. I personally prefer some of the Sense apps over the X's/Google's/alternatives such as the dialer, SMS, email and the customized Sense browser is far far superior to Chrome in every way. It also has the IR port and TV app plus radio. The X has active notifications which I love, the always listening search, better battery life, stock for all that entails good and bad as well as some useful stuff like Assist. The main reason I got the X over the One is because of its size as well as the fact that the One CANNOT be repaired in any way, once its battery dies it becomes an expensive paperweight which I think HTC should be flogged for personally. I did love my One though.

I use active notifications all the time, it's great. I didn't think I would use the always listening but I have quite a bit, it's actually useful especially for doing things like sending SMS messages hands free or setting alarms.

I'm wondering being a dual core, vs the quad of the HTC, if it will be future proof as apps and games will require more power/computing?

you're fighting an invalid argument. the X has a quad core gpu and a dual core cpu. plus it has dedicated CPUs for other things like listening service and radio. most phones don't have those additional CPUs and rely solely on the dual/quad core to do all of the work.
there is nothing "yesterday" about the X8's SoC design. its the best in its class.

I had the One and now I have the X. There is no contest, the X is the superior device in every regard. The One has a nice albeit cumbersome body, but aside from that it is just another Android phone. The X on the other hand just oozes innovation. From the X8 chip to the in hand feel to the X specific features- everything has a purpose and nothing is arbitrary. It has superior performance and battery life. Games play better. It's faster in normal use, day to day things. In other words there is no way in hell I would make that trade.
And just a little booster here- I also have the Nexus 5 which is ridiculously fast and just destroys the One all across the board- I prefer the X to the N5.

I have also owned the three phones you mentioned and prefer the X. The Nexus 5 was quite nice but I like the form factor and battery life of the X more. Short of that, you touched on many things that I agree with completely.

Your opinion, is the X 2014 still a good phone to buy to-date?

After a very disappointing event (Nexus wise) Google showcased today, I'm leaning toward the X 2014 Pure Edition. I've already made mine on Moto Maker and just waiting to pull the trigger.
I've had every nexus since the N1 but skipped out on the N6 due to its size. Now this year looks like I'm going to skip out again; the 5x doesnt have much more to offer than my current N5, the 6p (given has slightly better specs) is still too big for me. Mind you, I'm 6'6" with large hands, however I dont like big phones.. I dont like the fact I have to use finger-gymnastics to navigate the screen.
Anyways, given the stouter (sp?, word? lol) body of the X and its 5.2 display, it feels amazing. Quite perfect, actually... Reminds me of the G3; shorter body but housed a 5.5.. Amazing. And I really like the design of the moto x/n6 as well. minimal bezel, attractive, etc.
Given now this phone is a year old, would you still buy it today? I just want a 'new' device (the n5 has been great, treated me very nicely still runs perfect running 6.0 now), and I've always wanted to make my own moto x (always been a moto fan) but given what i do to phones and how i use them, the nexus always took my money. Since moto is pure Android out of the box, I think I can manage going away from a nexus this year.
Since the Moto Pure (2015) is too big, I've decided to maybe jump to the 2014 until next years moto or nexus..

I agree that the new Pure edition (2015) is a bit too large. Though thinner than the Nexus 6 it is just about as tall. I own a 2014 model (AT&T) and find it to be near perfect for me size wise. As an average sized person with smaller hands it is a great fit. The 2013 model, which I also own was a bit too small in my opinion.
I consider myself a tech enthusiast. Always on the lookout for the latest, greatest thing I'll usually end up purchasing it at some point. Over time, perhaps it comes with age, I've found that those things which initially grab my attention (specs) matter less and less since code optimization and more RAM in the latest devices mean that even lower end phones perform very well. Bearing that in mind, Motorola phones tend to offer something that no other manufacturer does... a near stock experience with above average specs (CPU, RAM, screen and camera) and just the right amount of truly value added software to enhance the user experience. In terms of sheer power it likely won't match flagships on benchmark tests, but in day to day use and even in side by side comparisons you will be hard pressed to notice a difference in performance... for almost half the price. In my opinion this makes a Moto X a better value than a Nexus or any flagship device all day long.
So in answer to your question, yes, the Moto X 2014 is still a great buy if you can handle your buddies gloating over their expensive flagship devices while chugging down a beer at the local pub. Just don't bother with a carrier variant. Grab the Pure edition.

- larger battery
- newer processor
- better camera
- fingerprint scanner

The only thing the Moto X has (and the reason I did the swap) was that it has a nicer design, especially with Moto maker. In addition, I always felt like a bit of a beta tester with the Nexus - constantly waiting for the next Android version to fix something that didn't quite work.
Not trying to sound negative but just wanted to lay down my thoughts.

I completely agree on everything you said.. Well put.. You and I think a lot alike.. However, (lol) the only difference with me is that yes, I consider myself a tech enthusiast, but I dont necessarily itch for the latest and greatest. Because sometimes the latest and greatest is not always the greatest (for my uses anyway). I still consider my Nexus 5 to be at the top of the list compared to devices today... Most of that 'top of the list' title is due to pure android of course. Nothing beats that experience. Yeah, specs arent "great" and the average user who sees the Nexus' specs on paper wont give the device the light day, but it still out performs most if not all devices today and I've been perfectly content with its specs. But gah, I've been a big fan of the design Moto has instilled in their phones, and that in itself is a big attraction to me.. I sometimes wish the n5 was a tad bigger with less bezel, and honestly, the moto x 2014 fits the bill perfectly.
Hahaha that's funny you say that.. I have buddies all the time trying to get the "latest and greatest" top tier phone with the best of everything but continue getting let down when my 2 year old phone runs circles around their bloated and skinned devices. So to have my buddies chug on a beer and gloat about their high end devices, im sitting over here thinking, "thats cute".. User experience means more to me than specs to an extent... Just like you said, once time passes, those specs become less and less relevant and all you have left is user experience. I'd take a phone with lesser specs and amazing user experience than grab a device with high end everything but cant keep up with what im doing. Thats where our beloved Nexus and Moto X's come to play.

You hit the nail on the head when you mentioned the design. Its such a good looking device. And to me, thats why i like it over the 5x. IMO the 5x isnt so attractive. Moto x wins on that one. The design of the phone really makes my phone buying hard. Every Nexus so far has been good looking imo except these recent ones. I'm picky lol.

- Larger battery? Sure does. However I was/am still getting 4-5 hours SOT on medium-heavy usage. So battery has never really been an issue for me.
- New processor. Yes, this is the only thing that attracts me.
- Better Camera? Sure. A lot better actually. But I was/am taking amazing photos with n5 camera now. I can link you to my instagram if need be lol (The moto X has a better camera than my n5 so ill be content). Yes, I would LOVE the 1.55 pixel, but its not the deciding factor when i look for a new phone.
Fingerprint scanner? Irrelevant for me. I couldnt care less for it. Now, put that fingerprint scanner on the power button (like the z5) then youll have my attention.
So yes, the 5x has more to offer than the moto, but the moto is an upgrade (kinda) from my n5.. The deciding factor for me is the design tbh.. I think the 5x doesnt look very good. Its as damn near the same size and everything of the z3, only the 5x being a tad taller. While the Moto houses the same screen size (5.2), is a lot shorter, has minimal bezel, and just looks and feels better.

It's fast enough to last me for a couple of years (I don't really game on it), and the size, for me, is great..
This is the largest I want to go!
After some tweaking (unlock bootloader, root, install Xposed) it's even better!
Remove some bloatware / unused apps, set Min/Max CPU speed, use NovaLauncher, tweak some notification things and the vlume sliders and it's near perfect!
I'd recommend it as "good" to the average user and "awesome" to the advanced user/tweaker

Well, you don't get all of the Moto suite of useful apps and features with the n5x. There's much more to the X 2014 than design. I bought one two weeks ago and it's a solid choice if you're not gaming all day (battery lasts more than one day with moderate usage - reaches 4 hrs SOT easily). It's also way cheaper than the n5x...

Every phone nowadays can make calls, send texts, take pictures and get you from point A to point B. The Nexus devices do it absolutely bare-bones which is fine for guys like us but not flashy enough for others. In my opinion only Motorola seems to understand the needs of the "inbetweener." (lol if that's even a word!) The person who is seeking a device that is minimal (for the sake of performance) yet functional (doesn't skimp on features). The Moto X is that device... essentially stock android with some added Motorola software that actually enhances the user experience.

I have a moto x2014 as well but I barely see 2:30 hrs of SOT ....I'm running stock 5.1

I would have answered yes until today's Motorola announcement that carrier versions of the Moto X 2014 will not be upgraded to Android 6.0

That's the carriers fault though isn't it?
Probably be able to get CM I'm sure.

I can see why you say that.. makes sense.. and come to think of it, youre right.. Even though our beloved nexus devices are the creme of the crop (to some people), its lacks certain things that i think would be nice to have.. small things nonetheless. slightly better camera, etc.. But i know that our nexus devices arent made to be top tier, so its understandable and i accept it.
but going off what you say, "Moto seems to understand the needs of the inbetweener". I concur. They make a device thats pure android, add better than average features (but not over the top that drives up the price), and still make it reasonably priced. i like that, and this thread is making my decision to pull the trigger even stronger.. Monday cant come here fast enough.
