maybe it could help someone here
before it happens i was on pure vanila v5 by ikaster
but i installed this rom about a month ago so i wonder
why it happenned.
ive done nothing on phone exept playing some mild games
but somehow it suddenly lost its baseband and imei.
i have read in some forum that i need to restore efs folder
so that my baseband and imei would return
i dont have any backup
i tried rebooting - this one did nothing
i tried rebooting without sd and sim then insert sim again
and still same problem
and then i tried the twrp.
first i backup everything for the first time (very stupid of me)
then i wipe from advance and select all except extsdcard
once again except extsdcard
then i rebooted but nothing happens just stuck on logo
because again how stupid am i, it doesnt have any os
i then go back to twrp and wipe everything except extsdcard and
then install back pure vanila by ikaster and to my surprise
it booted normally and this time with network signal
and of course baseband and my imei is back

Hi: I'll go directly to the point here:
1. Was running helly bean 4.1.1 for over two weeks- No problems
2. Decided to try a ROM with KFC1 modem - no signal
3. Re-installed Helly bean - low signal, can't register on network.
4. Went a step back to ICS 4.0.4 Tiramislim - Baseband unknown showed on the About phone screen. Tried re-installing, didn't helped.
5. Went back to Gingerbread 2.3.5 with ODIN, re-partition and the other stuff - Have low signal, it took a lot of time to finally register on the network. Calls drop after about 30 seconds.
6. As phone is SIM unlocked, tried another card, no luck, it did the same. Tried mine on another phone, it works fine.
---Don't know what else to try---- Best I managed to achieve is being able to make a call while standing still on a spot. If I'm on the road, signal drops to nothing and back to half in a matter of seconds.
-- Also checked bands, and they're all active -- Provider is CLARO of PR
-- Checked carrier signal in another phone side by side with mine, and I have nothing while the other was nearly full --
What else should I do? Could it be that the phone went bad and had nothing to do with me changing the Rom?
A few months ago, I tried the KFC1 modem and had to reinstall from ODIN as the modem kept fixed and didn't changed by installing other Roms via CWM
Wilfredo
dial *#06# ---> IMEI correct?
Or try:
1. Go to CMW
2. wipe all
3. in CWM go to "mounts&storage:
-> format /system
-> format /sdcard
-> format /data
-> format datadata
-> format /cache
-> format /boot --> it`s a little bit dangerous to format /boot, use it on your own risk
I did it two times (format /boot) after heavy problems with my SGS and it works
Important is, to flash a Rom with Odin after format /boot ...
For me it works ... it`s your own risk
After format /(all) your SGS is like from factory - without anything.
And after reflash a Rom via odin the boot-sector is rewritten (in GB-ROMs the bootloader is inclusive)
be brave and try it
Thanks! Forgot to mention that IMEI is there.
Phone is behaving a little bit better after flashing a GB XWJW5 with Bootloaders and as I couldn't find a rooted kernel, downgraded to rooted XVJU.
I know there are two different things, but in the areas where my data connection was on Edge before, are the same areas where I got no signal now. I'll check again the bands via *#*#2263#*#* and verify that everything is enabled as it was before.
If everything seems to be fine, what the hell, I'll format everything, including /boot.
UPDATE: Formatted /Boot but problem persisted. Flashed JVU GB ROM, Rooted and then went back to Helly Bean. Modem remained JVT???, althought the IMEI was there, I just deleted the folder contents and used a backup. Fixed EFS folder permissions. Rebooted and phone went back to life. So far it's working as it's supposed to. Excellent signal, no drop calls, data working fine. Wondering if re-installing the EFS folder had something to do or just a placebo effect??? But phone got signal immediately after re-installing EFS folder from a backup.
Hello everyone,
I just hardbricked my SGS+ and now I'm a bit curious how this could happen.
This is what I did:
I used to run CM9 RC5 from arco68 along with the Kernel for ICS from Christopher83 and CWM 6.0.1.2.
Because my phone always lost the wifi-connection and also had some freezes I decided to try out CM10 Beta 3 from ivendor.
I backuped my phone, downloaded the zips and even verified the MD5sums. Next I flashed CWM 6.0.1.9 as recommended in the thread from ivendor.
After exporting the nandroid backup and other stuff like photos to my computer I wiped everything as mentioned in the thread, flashed the two zips and rebooted. Everything went fine and I was almost ready with setting up my phone again when I got my first softreboot.
Suddenly it showed the CM-bootlogo and after maybe 10 seconds I was back on my homescreen. I got another two or three softreboots until I decided to flash the Kernel 3.x from CastagnaIT.
I rebooted into recovery, wiped cache and dalvik cache, flashed the zip and rebooted.
Now I wanted to reboot into recovery again to fix permissions but instead I got a softreboot and my phone stuck at the CM10 bootlogo.
I waited for around 5 minutes and then I just turned the phone off and booted into the recovery mode.
Because I wanted a clean install without any problems like softreboots I decided to wipe my phone again (data, cache, system) and just reflash the zip for CM10. And at this point everything went wrong.
I flashed CM10 but when I tried to flash gapps my phone just turned off. And no, the battery was not empty. In fact the battery was at around 50-60% and my phone was also connected to my computer.
I tried to turn on my phone but now it stuck at the Samsung bootlogo.
The next thing I did was probably a horrible mistake. I tried to un-brick my phone but I did not realize that I could boot into download mode without problems so I guess my phone wasn't softbricked at all.
Well, after that I still stuck at the Samsung bootlogo and couldn't enter recovery mode. I got into download mode somehow and maybe this was my second mistake. I tried to flash the "i9001Reset.zip" via Odin. Everything went fine but when Odin said "Close serial port and wait until rebooting" my phone was completely dead. I think it was while I tried to flash the reset-file when I got a message like "MBR: read failed". So somehow I managed to destroy my master boot record.
Now I can't turn on my phone or enter download nor recovery mode. I already removed the battery for about 45 minutes but this didn't work either.
My phone is dead but at least I saved the important data and maybe I'll get a new one through warranty. Or I just buy a Nexus 4.
My questions are:
What did I do wrong especially when I tried to save my phone?
How can I prevent such things from happening?
And at which point I should have got help here in the forum or elsewhere?
I would really appreciate some tips for the future because I already flashed and used a lot of different ROMs but this is the first time something really went wrong.
Thanks for reading and thanks for your help in advance.
(Please excuse my non-perfect englisch.)
Greetings,
Mangoniter

Hi all
My GT-N7000 phone, running (it seems to remember) official Android 4.1.2 some days ago suddenly reset, driving me into the configuration procedure like the first time I switched on.
The following day it reset again, and went into bootloop on Samsung screen. I tried the following:
wipe cache data - no result
reset to factory data - no result
flash via Odin the N7000XXLT9_N7000ITVLT3_ITV Kernel - no result
When I went into recovery mode before reflashing kernel, I got the "can't mount /efs" error. After reflashing kernel, I installed PhilZ recoverty with Aroma, and discovered that the EFS folder is here, but it is EMPTY, and in fact I can't mount it even in PhilZ.
Another strange thing is that all my custom data are still on the telephone, despite the factory reset I have done.
I have searched a lot, but I can't find a way to solve my problem so I am asking you to help me
Thanks in advance
Paolo

Any help?
The only things I found on internet are two tools that assert to rebuild your EFS nv_data.bin file (RIFF box and Zx3 box), but I don't want to spend money because the /EFS get corrupted by itself, without any attempt to flash or modding or whatever else.
I think that reflashing kernel will not solve my problem, because (I think) the information are hardware related, and not software related. If needed, I am able to manually change the file reflecting the IMEI and S/N on my cell box, but I need a generic file and some references about positions...
Please guys help me... even if you have only bad news
Thanks in advance
Paolo
Was you phone rooted with a custom recovery before the issue started? Check in the clockworkmod folder in internal storage for efs backups like efs.img...

nokiamodeln91, thank you for the reply.
Unfortunately not, my phone wasn't rooted before the issue, and, strange enough, I didn't do anything particular on the device other than calling and browsing...
Now I installed PhilZ and have a complete backup, perhaps it's later

Hi, friend of mine ask for help yesterday with his N7000 and he has the same problem as yrs.
I rooted the phone to have a look at the efs folder and it was empty.
As the factorymode was in OFF, I thought of creating an imei folder with root explore, lo and behold as soon as i saved it it received an a sms message.
Iopen the folder and there were the nv.data folder there.
Baseband was restored but the imei was a generic one 00000049 with the serial number at 0000000 but the consolation was he is able to use the phone normally with all services from telco and even package data was working.
My friend was so happy that he was able to use the phone and was willing to live with it not wanting me to try any further.
So maybe you can try this to get the phine working and like my friend live with it haha.
One more thing if ut works for u save the efs folder and try n restore it.I dont have the chance to try as my friend dont want to bugger it agian.
Also if you swich off the phine u may have to do it again. Cheers
Edit: Phone was in bootloop too, I went to recovery and it cant mount efs.I did a wipe twice and it started up that was how i was able to access the efs folder after rooting it. Cheers

Thank you ndmuni,
I don't understand very well what you did; consider that my phone is in bootloop, so I am not able to read an eventyually SMS, but I can accesso to file system with Aroma tool in PhilZ recoverty tool. Have I to create a special folder under root in my N7000? With what name?
Thank you in advance
Paolo
guys i just opened shortcut creator app and just clicked some mbn option and mistakenly selected some options and after that my phone rebooted into recovery and suddenly flashed some random thing nd my both sims stopped working and after some flashing of the stock rom i am able to make sim 2 detectable but still sim 1 is not detecting and everytime i have to restart my phone to make my sim 2 detectable ...please help me..
i also observed that my imei sv is now 00 please help me..
even i have got these types of glitches but on galaxy s2,
so, try installing the rom again. but this time make sure u do all these things
1.wipe dalvik cache
2.restore factorey setting
3.wipe cache partition
4.format the internal storage
then install the rom may be the uncleared traces from previous rom causing the conflict.
if you lost imei then you can do flash with stock image
first try to erase your memory and flash the stock rom, if still there is problem then you need to use qualcom software to re write imei numbers to get working sim networks.. for any assistance ping me in whatsapp +919966565427
