Hey guys, I just got my Xperia SP yesterday and have been tinkering with it. While so, I noticed that swiping from the home button, to reach Google Now, only Google Search appears. No cards, no nothing.
I have a Nexus 7 and I had an LG L7 (with an updated but stock firmware) and both have access to it, yet the XP doesnt. What could be the reason?
Any ideas would be welcome.
UPDATE:
So, the problem was ultimately my locale settings: I had Español (Guatemala) and by changing it to Español (México) Google Now was enabled in my device.
Source for solution
It normally works but as soon as I got it rooted I mistakes the Google search and this deleted the Google now function.
Did you get it new... If not might have been rooted then had some system apps deleted of which could be Google now.
If you have only just got the phone you can use PC companion or sus to repair phone this should reinstall any missing apps and return phone back to stock

Well, I got it fresh out of my local Sony store, so I doubt it was rooted. I just updated it to the new version through the Sony PC companion and it still doesn't work.
I've uninstalled and reinstalled Google search from the market to no avail.
I'll keep looking for more info, though.
Have you checked if Google now is on?
Open Google search then look for settings there you will see the Google now on/off setting.
At times with an upstate it turns off. Ensure it is on then within there you'll see individual card settings. Make sure you double check them.

Hi there, i bought a Nexus S to replace the Xperia X10, and i notice that i can not update the market, i am stuck at 2.3.6.
i went to apps managemet and uninstalled the "updates" and clear the data for the market app but it doesn't work, it keep downloading the 2.3 version instead of the 3.1 version.
In the X10 the market updates correctly so it is not a country related problem.
any ideas???
Download the apk yourself and install it

I wish I could keep the old market. The new one is slow, laggy, having strange bug of it wanting to attach itself to another Gmail I have, and I have no need for books or movies.
If I pull the new out and install old, the new one updates all by itself. I don't know he it's possible to keep the market from updating itself.
Look under /system/app for MarketUpdater.apk and either delete it or change the permissions to 000.
Then go to manage applications and uninstall market update.
Your market will now stay the same

As far as the market goes.....
Make sure you have the MarketUpdater.apk in /system/app. Also clear try clearing data for the market under settings-->applications-->manage applications
And for the software updates....
What version do you have? Because not all models and carriers are at the same software build number.
i haven't rooted the phone, and it is stock.
i am the only one with this problem???
my phone is factory unlocked and it is a i9020a phone.
Its not a "problem". The update isn't instantly pushed to all phones right away. It gets pushed in stages or something to that effect.
Edit:

Download it, put on SD card and install

yes i undesrtand that, but there is a previus version i think is the 3.1.3, and i can't get that version too, and it's released months ago, the strange thing is that i can update to the green version 2.3.1 from the grey one (i don't remenber the version but it's one of the first market available).
3.1.3 was never released to our nexus s
Hi,
I had thesame problem as you are experiencing now. Tried the downloaded version but uninstalled it.
Since this morning i have the official market app.
This is how i got it, maybe it has nothing to do with it but its worth a try.
- go to settings and enable location via.Wifi and cellular
- go to app management and remove cache, app data and the market updates you might have
- in the launcher open market app, accept terms and let it load to home screen
- push home button
- lock your phone for about 15minutes
You should have the new market now. I tried this twice and both times it worked then i disabled the location setting and it didnt work.
Hope this helps you.

@p.pavljasevic, your method confirmed working, I just did mine and got 3.1.5 now.
I stop trying long time ago thinking it might've been not pushed to the phone yet, I just tried it and it worked.

Try fixing permissions or uninstall with titanium pro and reinstall with play store
Also try wiping the data in titanium

Not an ICS issue... got my ICS LPY update over the air a while back, and have had no map problems since.
Easy, go to settings, applications, go to maps an click it, select delete data, try if still crashes. If it does, do delete data again, then uninstall and reinstall from play store. Test again, that should work

same problem
I have exactly the same problem. I have updated my Note from the latest gingerbread to the stock german ICS. After installation was completed I have noticed that Maps are constantly crashing. Google maps will locate my position and try to load map.. Everything is really choppy and after a while app will stop responding altogether and crash.
So.. at first I tough that it may be ICS ROM bug, so I have reverted back to the old ROM. I have wiped out user data, cash, etc.
I have also tried above mentioned method (posted by baz77) of uninstalling app, but nothing has changed.
I searched all over the internet, and found that there are more people suffering from this bug.
Any idea what's going on?? Thanks. I am becoming really desperate..
Fixed.
I followed Baz77's suggestion (adding a cache clear as well) and Maps is now working fine.
It worked, but only for a while. After I have uninstalled updates, removed app data, I was able to make it work. Everything was smooth but after about one minute scrolling became choppy and few second later app stopped responding and crashed. How is it possible that even different ROM didn't help? I tough that when I set "wipe data/factory reset", it would erase all stored system data..
Problem solved
Ok, so this thread can now be officially closed. I have once again uninstalled Maps and it's updates. Because I have done it so many times before, I have completely resigned and stopped wasting my time with it. My phone has run out of juice (guess why), so I left it on charger for several hours. After I have unplugged it, an update notification for Maps pops up. I sad OK to myself.. why not to try it once more.
And to my great surprise, IT WORKED this time. I have no idea WHY, but it just did. Maybe system needed some time to remove registry settings/kill process or something like that. I have restarted Note few times before with no success.
Or maybe Google has made some changes to update file in meantime, but that's unlikely.
Anyway..
Thanks everyone for help. Drinks are on me
Ok so I have this import Polish note that won't allow me to update to ics over the air or over kies.
It also now won't connect to the google play market over wifi. I just get a message "no connection". I don't have any phone service with this. I can connect to the internet though over wifi and browse the net but no Play. That means that wifi is working fine. What the hell is going on with this thing? I didn't update for awhile (won't let me) so it isn't any update that caused this. I am totaly factory with no custom ROMs and not even rooted.

Use market enabler. Google it.
For kies problem i think its because of CSC. Hmmm

Flash a Stock ICS via PC Odin (Links on Dr. K's signature) Or you can you search the Dev section for Stock ROM's.
For the Play Store, Try cleaning the cache / data out of the app via settings..

Ok but the app you mention seems to be to enable paid apps. I can't even access the store at all, free or paid, it won't even connect.
I used to be able to do it. As I said I am fully stock GB, no root. Does anyone know why this happens?
Hello,
I admit I'm noob to this site and to android devices as well. This is may seem quite long, please read it out and help me. Recently i bought xperia sp [only 3 days old ] and successfully rooted it. To remove unwanted apps , i deleted some from root/system/app . Later i realize i removed some important files. My set is working fine, i just miss those . for example - google search widget, facebook, twiiter etc. Now i'm asking how can i restore every app that has been gone. Now i just want my phone as it were 3 days back. Pardon me if i can't make u understand ! I saw a post somewhere that i can manually update jelly bean 4.12, if i do so , will those app be back ? please suggest me what should i do now.
Best way is to use sus or PCC and restore/repair with those.
Before you do if you have root then use titanium backup to backup your apps and data to your ext SD card so you can easily restore your apps but not system files.
Once repaired, root again, install titanium and restore other apps you just backed up
Or if you have c5303 look here at the system dump http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240516

Repair the phone software using sony pc companion or sus.
Believe me it's the best option.
Hi! I have a rooted Xperia z3 compact running android 5.1.1
I installed better battery stats and it asked me to install the compaion app. I did it, and then I rebooted the phone. But when I try to open it, I find it stuck like in this screenshot. I can't use the app neither if I unistall the whole program, it turns out to stuck again there. If I unistall the compaion app, the app crashes. What is happening?
Thanks!

It happened with me too. If you have purchased the app then make sure your phone is restarted after installing as a system app and after restart go to playstore and you will see update option go ahead and update and everything will be fine. It doesn't work if you have not purchased.
