Hi to all,
Anyone know where Windows Phone saves files donwloaded with IE?
Actually, I don't yet. There's a data folder for it, and a temp cache folder, but I don't *think* either of those are used. I'll have to explore more.
I was found the download folder in Windows Phone 7 when i have one.
but i think it can't help us because when our phones are not unlocked we can't access to that folder .

Does anyone know? I have 4 updates that Microsoft downloaded to my computer. They won't install. I just want to clear them out. I installed all the Service Packs and these updates know that but they won't go away.
If someone could just tell me where they are, so I can just delete them, I would appreciate it. Thanks in Advance.
I am using XP Pro.
Hmmm No Takers......... thought this would be a CakeWalk Question for all the Boy Genius's out there.
Maybe will have to ask a fellow worker who claims to be a "microsoft certified tech"
Usually all MS updates for WinXP goes to this folder:
C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download
you'll find multiple files or folders with stings of characters/numbers for name.
if it was normal files, just replace the extension with .exe or .msi, and run it. you will be able to see what application it is when it starts.
if it was a folder, when you go inside it, you will find an Update folder (workin on memory here), inside you will find an executable that you can use to apply the update to your system.
how to know which folder to go to and run?? trail and error.
there used to be a text file inside that you can open to know the name of the program/patch (KBxxxxxx). don't remember the name of the file.
usually, whenever you do an update, you have to copy the directory needed before rebooting (found that it will be emptied after a reboot).
hope this was of help to you.
Happy new year all.
Hi Yes that worked out great. Software Distribution Hmmm. that one got by me. I just cleared it all out, the whole folder's contents, it worked.
Went online and checked for updates and they were gone. Awesome.
I noticed the same folder on my Vista machine also.
Thanks!
I downloaded a couple of games i want to put on my phone to test.
but im unsure how to put them on. can someone help me out..?
thanks.
and also if anyone knows any good sites i could download games aswell, that your sure that will work.
Connect your device to your PC via activesync.
If they're .exe files, run them on your PC and follow the process (i recommend installing them on your storage card)
IF they are .cab files or if Windows tells you they're not valid win32 apps then copy them over to your device. U can use activesync to this, right click the activesync icon in the taskbar and click on explore.
Once the files are on your device, browse to where you put them using file explorer and tap the files to install...
This is pretty basic stuff so keep it in mind when installing any other app/game.
hi guys, im new here and got my diamond just yesterday.. its my first pocket pc, and i need real help..
looked around the forums and found a lot of good stuff..
downloaded a couple of applications like advanced configuration tools, gsen, registery editor, but i dont know how to install them. when i unzip the files on my pc the are in xml format and when i double click on the setup file it opens in notepad..
plz help me, what should i do? how do i install these applications?
Instead of unzipping the .cab files on your pc, you need to copy them to your diamond (using activesync or select 'disk drive' when you plug it in).
Then open file explorer on your diamond, navigate to where you copied the .cab file, and run it - .cab is an installer file for windows mobile applications

Do the following, hehe
When you download most programs they will be in .CAB format. Now all this means is that they can be installed DIRECT from the phone.
What I do is create a folder on my Diamond in Internal Storage called APPS and make sure my Diamond is synced to my pc / laptop using Activesync on XP or Windows Mobile Device centre if on Vista and then copy all the .CABS that i have downloaded into the APPS folder on my phone.
Once im ready to install the applications its very simple.
On your Diamond click on START and then PROGRAMS and locate FILE EXPLORER.
When FILE EXPLORER has loaded up in the top left of the window you will notice a memory card icon with the current directory you mobile is pointing to, push this and you will then see MY DEVICE and the location you are currently at.
If you have used a pc before its very similar to how the pc windows explorer used to navigate, anyway, select MY DEVICE and then choose INTERNAL STORAGE and then APPS.
Then its just a matter of selecting which application you wish to install as all the .CABS will be displayed. Select the one you want to install and follow the installation process.
If there are any small programs 1mb or less then I tend to install these onto my phone storage memory and for games I install them onto INTERNAL STORAGE but its up to you. Some programs require a SOFT RESET to work.
The SOFT RESET button is located where the STYLUS is stored on the phone, pull the STYLUS out and then you will see a RED BUTTON inside.
Push this and your phone will restart.
There is more information here at good ol xda-developers.com and also http://modmydiamond.info
Hope this helps!

Hi, you cannot access the files. =(
hello,
it's not clear if you want access file within android or just connecting your SD card to a computer.
Can you install apk file (i.e. downloaded from market place?)
i want to access files within android because i want to install apk files from memory card.
i tried to install apk files from market palce but after selecting any application, it shows downloading but doesnt finish download even after several minutes.
I have had similar problem, my 2GB sdcard was not full but I could non use at all, I formatted full FAT32 and put back the file. This solved the problem.
any luck
Are you saying that when you use something like OI file manager, you can not see any files on the memory card ?
i want to rom version of android2.2 too.

i dont have a solution for your problem, but if you have .apk files put it in the "Androidapps" Folder on your sdcard via PC and then run Android. It install automaticly if you start Android.
Hello,
I would like to know how can I find the downloaded files in HTC HD7 with WP7?
I have downloaded files from my hotmail.
It says downloading when download is finish,I can't open the file.
WP said Can't open attachment.
(There's no application associated with this file type)
I'd like to know where this downloaded attached files saved in phone.
I looked for the files by using TouchXplorer but I can't make it at all.
I have Registry Editor, TouchXplorer and my OS version is 7389.
Can someone give me an idea?
Thank in advance!
i think that file can't be accepted with wp7.
yes Ttblondey ,
I am trying to install .ttf , wp7 can't accepted.
But the download was finished.
I wonder if I can find this downloaded file.
I have chance to move to Windows\Fonts folder
The system does not work that way. Once you download an attachment, it gets stored by Outlook in some encrypted, hidden file somewhere that can only be accessed through the e-mail app. If the phone can't read it, then you are pretty much out of luck.
You are not meant to have file system access, so WP7 works very differently than a computer with file system access. Opening files that the OS does not support is not something you can do... yet.

Thank for all your advice.
I attached as a txt file to hotmail.
It saved as to the office hab. By using TouchXplorer, I found my text file under Document Folder. I changed file extension to .ttf.
Copy & paste at Windows\Fonts
can't do yet to change fonts in WP OS , still trying
