[Q] Developer support on C6903 - Xperia Z1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well now it’s my turn again to ask a question. :silly: I’m going to buy a new phone as my old Galaxy note recently broke. And since Samsung are really bad at supporting AOSP/Cm development I’m thinking about getting the Z1. The thing that worries me is that in Norway the only Z1 model in sale is the C6903. Seeing that the there are a lot of different Z1 models I’m worried that only one of them is going to get the AOSP/Cm support that I’m looking for. So if anyone got some information if getting the C6903 would be a good choice for AOSP/cm support, that would make my choice a lot easier.
Thanks for any answers in advance.

I am not 100% sure. Only change among various model is the radio bands. it is mostly only hardware dependent. If any dependencies exists it will be only in baseband firmware which is different from phone OS. qualcomm uses AMSS as their baseband OS.. it is released for sony phone by sony only.. even if the phone is running any kernel or os.. baseband firmware will always be from sony. and you can flash it separately

[Q] Differences between Xperia models

ok so as per rules I've searched for a thread about this but didn't turn up anything so here goes.
I just had my old phone (Atrix2 AT&T) brick on me so I'm looking to replace it. I've got my eye on the Xperia TL also by AT&T and naturally came here to XDA to see what everyone had to say. What I wasn't counting on when I first looked into the phone however was the plethora of models, even the forum here is devoted to 4 models.
Simply put what are the differences between the various models? From my online research the T is the older model with the TL being the slight upgrade (though not in battery life, confirm or deny?) the TX being the Verizon version and the V being the "active" or waterproof version.
Is all of this correct? If so what does it mean for development? Do I need a different root/flash method for each? I've seen posts detailing how methods that work on the T model won't work with TL but is this due to the upgrade or inherent differences between all four models?
Again I'm sorry if I failed to find thread that answers all of these questions completely but I'm rather surprised that I couldn't.... Many thanks XDA

[Q] UAE camera in the US - Any caveats?

Bought a EK-GC110 off Amazon. Stated as "New, not refurbished" but price was more along the lines of a used / refurbished, so I was OK if it arrived refurbished (it did). However, it's a UAE "model".
Any caveats before I get too attached to it? Obviously there's no warranty regardless, but I don't want a month later to find out some feature won't work because it's a UAE model and I'm in the USA (not even sure what would be a problem, but...)
Thanks
wifi version has identical hardware worldwide.
even if someday you find a feature that doesn't work you could just flash the official rom for the US version, but I think the software is the same everywhere too.

Hey thanks for the reply. So nothing you can think of that may be 'different' - If I recall there's a few extra wifi channels that the rest of the world has that the USA doesn't - that's fine obviously, I just want to make sure there's not say frequencies this UAE version wouldn't have that the US would. Or some encryption or - I don't even know what else but if it's the same, no problem.
Thanks
I have the same camera.
Im looking to restore it back to factory after root but am not sure what firmware to use. Also, it seems i would benefit from using another regions firmware based on what you said. Is that correct?

Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE on XZ3 Dual (H9436)

Hello everyone ?
Does anyone know of a way to get Wi-Fi calling and VoLTE loaded onto an unlocked, stock, non-rooted, H9436 ?.
PS: I know as a fact that my carrier supports both of them ?
Thank You
Only way is to use Xperifirm to download your regions firmware and flash it.
I know on my previous XZP I had a G8142 dual sim (Hong Kong) and flashed it a G8141 Single Sim (Australia) Firmware without any issues.
Unfortunately Sony Mobile has pulled out of Australia and there no Australian firmware for the XZ3. So I'll never get VoLTE on this phone now.

Did you see any battery life improvement since the second modem is not being used? ?
Is there no risk of bricking it?
It's gonna be horrible having all of my carriers crap on my phone
Maybe you could try using the firmware of another region that has it

XZP battery life became one of the best phones I've had after the last Oreo update. Since Pie it hasn't improved much. I would have the phone synced to my android watch all day. By the time i hit bed, i'd have 35% battery life left.
My current XZ3, would be dead by the time i get home from work, yet its supposed to have a bigger batter 3330mah vs 3230mah.
You dont have to use your specific carriers, just your country. Using the Generic Australian ROM I got VoLTE and VoWiFi working on Vodafone AU network.
At this current time no firmware is able to make VoLTE work on XZ3. Simply cause Sony Sucks now.
Might even sell this phone off or return it, as I've only had it a week.

Yeah battery life on this phone is just horrible
My mom has the XZP but she's stuck on Oreo cause Sony mobile abandoned the region, I'm planning on flashing a different region's firmware on my next trip home.
I thought of my carrier's firmware cause in France (my profile still says Lebanon cause I didn't bother changing, I moved to France a couple of months ago) the only unlocked version they sell is the dual sim one, the one sold by operators is the single sim one but they install their own firmware, and also because on their support website that mentioned that the xz3 that they sell is compatible with VoWiFi and VoLTE.
If you return it what would you get?

Well I haven't returned it, cause I still don't have my XZP back from warranty repairs. Appears Sony is abandoning alot of regions. Though they are still releasing updates for those phones which is a good thing.
I love Sony Xperia phones, by far the best quality handsets in terms of workmanship, etc. But how they go about their software implementations has a lot to desire.
Hoping one day Sony deploys Carrier integrations like alot of the smaller manufacturers i.e Asus, Huawei, Oppo and Nokia, who are able to enable VoLTE without any specific region firmware.

Yeah Xperia phone are really great, they have a mix of build quality and balance between software features and performance that just isn't available with other phones in the Android world (not talking about iPhones cause iOS is just BAD). I remember when I switched from my Z1 to a note 5, I was so disappointed. Wasn't sure if I wanted to get the Z5 or the note 5, so I decided to see why people praise Sammy, what a mistake ??*.
Going back to the main subject of this thread ?
I hadn't flashed my phone yet cause I had been pretty busy with school and wasn't sure if I should flash my carrier's firmware or not. So last week I got an update. A couple of hours later I went into the settings to tinker with stamina mode. And there I see it. A big banner on the top telling me to activate Wi-Fi Calling. So of course I did but couldn't test it directly cause I was out and about. When I got home (I have really bad reception in my dorm room, when people call me they go directly to voicemail cause I don't have any reception), I tried to see figure it out, but apparently it's just a placebo, it doesn't actually do anything ?

Which G800 best for LineageOS in US?

Hey all sorry for the newbness, I'm kinda totally new to android modding. I've been running a G800A for years now and love it to death, but it's just become a bit too outdated and limiting in stock form. I'm also under the understanding that the G800A is the most limiting version, as there is not even ROMs available to run anything about Android 5.1.1(?)
So I'm understanding if I wanted to go to LineageOS, my options are the G800F/M/Y. Anything I've found on these shows them all virtually identical other than the 4g bands. Would any one of these 3 be any better than the others to use in the USA? Does whatever carrier I would end up going with matter much?
Also, even more stupider questions- has anyone tried installing LineageOS on the G800A?
Last one- what about the G800R4 if I wanted to go with a CDMA carrier?
TIA for any help with this
you can only flash a rom built for your exact device...
only a 800f rom for a 800f device..
or you will brick..
( some roms are built for more then one device like the f/m/y variants)
sadly almost every samsung device sold in the usa after the s4 is bootloader locked.
so you cant flash anything.
you can get a s5 mini g800f from ebay for 60$ and start the flashing game is you love small phones.
That is what is did.
every samsung phone i get now is international or i dont buy it.
@nutpants thx for the reply. I'm still a bit confused tho- aren't US version G900s able to be flashed? Unless I misunderstood some of the stuff I've come across. I'm still on the fence as to whether I want to stay with something quite so small as the G800 (my eyeballs are getting old along with me). I think I might go with a G900 and see how it works out. But is this the same deal ie- I need to look for an international version of that?
Also, I've noticed that tons of international versions have limited to no compatible LTE bands with those used here in the states. I'm assuming there's no workaround for this as it's a hardware issue(?) How much does this affect real world usability?
first off i dont know everything, so you will have to research
https://www.kimovil.com/en/frequency-checker/US/samsung-galaxy-s5-mini
this is a good reference but i just found it so it could be very wrong also.
( it looks like it is not very good with all the variants so its not to be considered the last word)
while i have not looked at every rom posted here ( and there might be a usa at&t s5mini xda page someplace) i don't remember seeing any rom for the g800a variant of the s5mini if it does not say g800a it will very likely not work, and will brick your device if you try.
its not looking good for your g800a device at all )
i have a g900w8 (Canadian variant) and i can flash anything that the international version uses, but it has all the bands that i usa uses for the most part. (best of both worlds) but i think the usa model (v, r4,p) has a locked boot loader so it is not easy to flash roms.
( i think there is a way to do it, but i never have as i dont but bootloader locked phones)
the s7 and older Canadian phones from samsung are all easily rootable , most can be flashed with international roms, but (dont quote me on this) they use mostly the north america popular bands for lte, hspa, etc.
if you are looking for a newer phone dont get the g900 s5
get the s7 g935w8 canadian phone its about the same size, must faster, better battery ( but you cant replace it, MUCH MUCH better camera (ive had nothing but problems with the s5 camera) and ive found them for about 150$ used in great shape.
if you use data a lot then you want lte to work if you are just going to talk, then the gsm bands are good enough. ive used Canadian phones in the usa plenty and have no serious issues.
but i just got the s5 mini g800f from ebay and im still setting it up so i dont know how well it works yet.
short answer, usa phones are much much harder to root if at all, fewer roms, international phones are much better for all that but may not work well in the usa, canadian phones might be what you want to look at
(my Canadian s5 g900w8 still have support for the latest lineage os 18 )
before you buy check if the phone is supported by lineage os
https://download.lineageos.org/
if it is, then you can root, flash roms and very likely have unofficial roms for years to come.
or you can search xda, but as you can see, the s5mini is all but dead here and developers are not working hard to improve the roms we do have. in another year this place will be a ghost town.
btw i have canadian s4, s5, s7, s4 mini, s7 , s7 edge, note 2, note 3, note 4, mega . and have been very happy with them all. i have a few usa devices (s5 active)but i cant do anything with them. so they sit on a shelf. ( not that any of them do much but the hobby of flashing the newest rom and trying it out.

xperia 1 ii

Hi there
I just bought a xperia 1ii. I am in China, so its OS is the standard Chinese customized version by Sony, thus I lost a lot of fun from real Google kits. do you have the sony official ROM of internation version or the US version? I really miss the old phone I bought in US with full Google service.
I don't care about the 5G function. I am still using the 4G service from CMCC now. thanks a lot for any help or suggestion.
Which model? XQ-AT72?
You could try flash AT51/AT52 Customized HK version (download via XperiFirm), at your own risk (unstable maybe due to hardware difference, hence bricking, signal loss, etc.).
