Hello,
I already opened one thread some weeks ago about the wifi range issue, which I had with my old device. (C5303)
Now I got a new device (sure, also C5303), cause the old one had dead pixels on the touchscreen, I reclaimed it and the shop, where I bought it, gave me a new one.
But Im still facing the same problem like before. The wifi range is just horrible!!!
Im on the newest firmware (2.254).
For example, sometimes I like to watch some videos on youtube, before I go to sleep, but unfortunately I cannot.
I just don't get enough speed to play/load the videos, cause the wifi signal is damn weak.
I made a screen of it.
]
As you can see, the video cannot even start, cause of that low signal/speed.
Here is a pic, where u can see the distance between the router and my bed.
Is every Xperia SP facing this problem?
I also wrote an E-Mail to the sony support, but they were not able, to give me a solution, to fix that problem.
It seems, that Sony cannot fix it, so what can I do?
IT IS JUST ANNOYING!!!
1. Try other model of phone and see if the range is the same in same distance, coz u have a wall btw u and the router.
2. The problem maybe no is the phone, its the router. Try to update the router to the latest firmware

It cannot be the router. I tested many other devices with my network and no one of them had issues with the range.
I also tried different router settings (changing the canal and more)
So, wifi is one of the most important functions for me and like u see, it doesnt work correctly! But I paid 350€ and demand a phone, which works fine at all. Can I demand my money back and give the xperia sp back to the shop? (under warranty)

There's a WiFi fix offered in general forum, it worked for me, but as it looks like, I got from the very beginning a device with excellent WiFi Reception, good camera in dark areas and no touch issue.
Its just pure luck I guess, and a bit tweaking it.

Hello XDA community, I've been feeling very frustrated because of the GPS performance, well so I decided to make my own hack... if you can call it like that it is not perfect but I can tell you guys it works!!!!!! I'm going to show you with proof of my screenshots and pictures, I just follow the instruction of the first hardware fix that appears before the last year, and it doesn't works for me so I decided to add a couple of cooper strings into the soldering and make my own antennae, and now I'm very happy now even indoors I can get signal from the GPS sensor and locks at least 7 birds if you are insane enough to try this here are some pictures of my work.
Press in the Screenshot to go and see more pictures on my album.
There is a little problem since i did this, people that calls me says that i sound like Darth Vader so do it at your Own Risk.

Wow, nice input. I'll have to experiment. You basically just used an old copper wires from an old charger (looks like an old samsung charger) and just soldered it in? Hmm, interesting....
I'll have to try.
If you're that desperate for a strong GPS signal why not just buy a $30-40 Bluetooth GPS receiver?
Don't have to mangle your phone, you get accuracy to 1 foot, and it only takes three seconds to lock. Not to mention you save power on your phone by using a separate device.
I'm happy with mine and would never use an integrated receiver again.

Search for "MKII Bluetooth" on eBay. $12-16 or more (depending on accessories that it comes with).
I have one that works great. It can take a minute to lock and can get to within 10 feet, but one it locks, it does not drift.

A few things...
Since you mentioned it in one of your pictures, if you were to accidentally connect the antenna to the ground contacts around the screw holes, it will kill the signal because the GPS radio references the antenna level to the ground. It wouldn't blow up your phone or anything.
You're making a monopole antenna, and the simplest and most effective way to do that is with a quarter wave "whip" style antenna. This is what is built in to the back casing of the Vibrant, where the GPS antenna contact pushes in to. GPS L1 signal is 1575MHz, so its wavelength is 19cm, which would make a quarter wave antenna 4.75cm long. All you need is a single, straight run of 4.75cm of wire (even insulated in PVC is OK) connected to the GPS contact. No need for this bunny-ear stuff - GPS signal is circularly polarized.
Also... goddamn, that is a huge glob of solder. Pick up some solder flux next time and thank me later. LOL
Nice work .. creates curiosity to try it out.. when we have stepped out why not use a proper gps antenna..
so are there any gps sticker antenna of other phones that can be connected. I tried searching and found out apple iphone 3g/3gs gps antenna stickers are widely available. can it be used here. because I am worried about contacts link
And also how about using enameled copper wire to reduce shorts and make it a dipole.

Actually the bluetooth radio on the Vibrant is very power efficient. With bluetooth enabled I see no difference than airplane mode. Bluetooth only eats battery when it's used with a wireless headset and actively being used for communication or listening to music. My GPS receiver gives me all day long battery and under 5 feet accuracy and I only paid $11 for mine at ebay. I'd rather pay a small $ and get better GPS accuracy, better battery and not sound like Darth Vader. Although sounding like Darth Vader would be cool lol...
P.S. I'm an Electronics tech so I like your findings and bravery with modifying your device, but the truth is buying a cheap GPS receiver is a much better alternative unless of course your supper poor. In which case you shouldn't have an expensive cell phone in the first place.
But awesome work none the less.

I have personally had a lot of problems connecting with DUAL BAND routers (5Ghz and 2.4GHz). I have a Cisco e3000 and CM7 & CM9 both seem to be not so happy. I just set my Touchpads to use a different single band access point I have and they seem to work MUCH better.
router issues
I was using a belkin dualband n600 router and had no issues whatsoever after upgrading my broadband my ISP supplied me with a virgin super hub (netgear) and had nothing but problems no matter what I did, changing channels did nothing so disabled the router function and reinstalled the belkin one, my touchpad running classicnerd connects every time on the 5ghz mode, oh and my wife's touchpad had the same issues.

Did Whompasaurus come with the kernel or did you flash it after the fact?
I may, because the phone tends to get "stuck" on 1X or 3G and refuse to go to 3G or 4G even if there is a strong signal available. I usually have to toggle data to fix it and it's getting annoying. Other phones, including the S4, do not seem to have this problem.
Apart from that the One is pretty much flawless, so I'm just waiting until the end of the 14 days to see if the irritation of constantly switching data off and on gets to me.

Awesome! I'm running Viper right now. I'll trying flashing over that and see what happens!!
Not at all...this is actually the first phone I haven't had any issues with. Not even considering rooting right now just b/c everything works...HTC One ftw
Had the S4 for less then a week before I brought it back and exchanged it for the ONE. Best decision I have made during my 14 years with Sprint. Didn't like the feel or performance (in my area) of the S4 at all. Lots of reception issues, dropped calls etc. Plus the phone just felt "cheap"

Would never switch to the s4, I have used the s4 extensivly. I updated to viper 1.1.0 and no issues with the back and home button anymore, big thanks to viperboy for all his work. Also a huge factor for me is the front speakers, makes the whole phone experience that much better.

I have both. Im using the s4 but still play with the htc one. I bought both off craigslist for a really good price. They are both amazing phones. I cant decide which to keeo. I love the sexy design of the htc one. The speakers are amazing and i love the music app. I really love fact it downloads the cover art automatically. Then the S4. I love the bigger screen. I love touchwiz. I love the fact it has more features. I looooove the meny button being stationary and not different places dependin on what app your using. The fact is there both amazing phones. I think samsung listened to the consumers complaints about the s3 and note 2 and did its best to put out a product wed all love. I think htc listened to the complaints about tue htc one and the one x and did there best. I lean towards the galaxy only bc all my tablets are samsung and my fiance has the s4 so im just more comftorable with touch wiz. But the htc is super quick very snappy if you know what i mean lol. Did both of those at least a dozen times, but the issues are still present. It may be a sprint problem, but it only affects the One. My old HTC Arrive did not have these issues, and neither do the s3 or s4.

Try repairing at the longest possible distance while the car is running so it hunts for the best BT channel. Start far enough away so that it fails. Then get closer until it works.
Bluetooth works great for me, finally since it was awful on the EVO 4G LTE. Only problem is voice command prompt volume is too low.

Does any one know of any programs that monitor the Bluetooth connection so I can see if it changes channels or even something where I can force it to change?

I have been having the same issue with the LG Optimus G here in KC. It is a network issue. It is how the phone trades off between 3G and 4G. I will be on 3g and my wife is on 4g at the same time. There shouldn't be a difference between S4 and One. They have the same modem.
Already did and I'm happy
First one to 64GB on Sprint gets my business (for the S4, that means 64GB +64GB SD Card).
Hello
For some reason wifi range is really bad, about 4m (in line of sight even) 5ghz and 2.4 ghz. Sometimes 5Ghz range is better than 2.4Ghz
I've tried different routers (Netgear, Buffalo and TP-Link) and channels but it's about the same. When I stand 2m from my router Netgear WNDR3700 the wifi signal on One fluctuates from full to zero. When watching Youtube it fluctuates like made even when I'm next to the router. Its really random. Is my new Htc One bad?
Version 1.29.401.16
The range is great on mine on 2.4g. Currently 30 feet away from Wifi router with signal traveling through two walls.
You might want to check out Wifi Analyser app.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.farproc.wifi.analyzer
I've tried Wifi Analyser. Can see the signal fluctuate in real time :/ . I'm the only one with Wifi here. My old SGS3 hadd almost full bars 13m away (40 feet) Wifes Galaxy Note has about 2 bars.
At 15m i have 2 bars...
at 17 1
Just tested, at 5m it disconnects and uses only cell data. Guess I have to return it.. This is my first HTC device, not a good start :crying:

it isnt a hardware problem..thats what i meant
So whats the problem? If it isn't hardware releated? If tested with three different routers and channels and I got the same bad results. All routers tested is N capable and other devices works fine with them. Lots of different laptops, tablets etc..

FYI
I got a new HTC One now, and Wifi works flawless now. It was a bad unit.

I think there is a service menu dial *#*#7378423#*#* on the phone key pad.
This should allow you to test many functions.
There's a theory that early manufactured devices have a touch screen issue - when flat or when charging responsiveness is wrong.
As far as I can tell the issue with c5302 is that the Play store doesn't properly recognise it and it's possible you won't be able to install some games (I suppose this might be a regional licencing issue?)
Apart from that all the usual stuff - people sometimes try and sell water damaged phones second hand that have 95% functionality - so make sure it can make calls, connect to data, connect to wifi, that the internal SD is recognised by the phone and by a PC you connect it to and that it accepts external SD cards and also recognises them.
hi iam using my xperia sp two months right now, facing touch screen problem as said above, and also overheating problem. pls check this two points. everything else ok, this two things make me very irritating and angry, in my point of view this two you must be check first.
c5306
I have 2 weeks with my SP (c5306), it came with a very old firmware (12.0.A.1.234) but it hasn't the two issues you mention (flat surface issue and overheating (42C max with heavy gaming), although it does have a lot of issues regarding WiFi drops and bipolar WiFi Direct connectivity.
