I apologize for yet another of these types of posts as I know there are a ton because I've been searching through them for a few days now. I can't seem to find a solution to my problem that works so hopefully someone can point me to the correct thread or help me directly. Here is my problem:
I have a Kindle Fire HD 7". I had successfully rooted the device, but then I went and screwed all that up by trying to mod it to get the android market (I, as a noob, changed a system value I shouldn't have - oops). After that, my kindle was/still is stuck on the System Recovery screen. The one where you can choose to reboot or erase all/reboot. Tried both, didn't work, got a factory cable from Skorpn (thank you!!).
I can now get my kindle to to show 'Fastboot Kindle Fire' on it's screen, but my computer doesn't recognize it as a Kindle. It shows it as 'Tate-PVT-08'. I found some threads on here about that and downloaded the drivers/installed them. The computer still does not recognize it as anything other than the tate thing. Grar. I have the android sdk stuff and the KFFirstAide. I'm using Windows 7 OS if it matters. But I do not know how to proceed without getting the dumb computer to recognize my device, so please help me out if you know how to do this. I'm about ready to throw the darn thing into the street and run it over multiple times with my jeep! It's been unusable for 6 months now! And yes, I'm a pathetic noob, and a girl to boot so keep that in mind... I apologize.

Thanks for the pointer - I think it got me a tiny bit further. After finding the package and 'fixing' drivers - woo-hoo - my computer is saying that the device is working properly now, I can see it as 'Kindle Fire' in my device manager. However, it still is showing up as 'Tate-PVT-08' under Devices and Printers, and it cannot be found (isn't communicating) with ADB. I feel like I'm missing something so small to be able to move forward and reflash this thing - it's so incredibly frustrating to not be able to find it. :/
I also have tried editing the adb usb file to include the 0x1949, having gone through the adb kill/start-server commands several times, which hasn't changed anything. Is there anything I am missing to get windows and adb to communicate with it? Or is my only option at this point trying 'non-Windows based options'?
You don't use adb commands with fastboot, you use fastboot commands. I think at this point you said you have kffa, so try getting it to reflash the system image. I don't know the option number though.

Sooo, I feel even stupider now. I do have KFFA, so I tried to reflash the system image. It went through and gave me a success, although it did have an issue with erasing user data and cache. It said to disconnect from the computer/usb and power down, then restart. I did that and was super hopeful - it went through the boot screen a few more times than normal... but then BAM. Right back to the Kindle Fire System Recovery screen that it can't get past. Ugh. I must have really screwed something up on it.
Hmm. I just did some more digging on fastboot commands and found the fastboot mode guide on here. Going through that, I checked my hardware IDs, and one of the numbers are off, which according to the guide means that my Kindle isn't in fastboot mode (and this is while using the fastboot cable). If I use a regular USB cable, it doesn't show up at all anywhere. The more I research, the more confused I get. Everything seems geared towards fixing your device if it is stuck in a bootloop (mine goes through that and sticks at the recovery screen) or being able to get it into fastboot, which I cannot seem to do even with the cable. I guess I'm going to try to uninstall and reinstall the drivers for it again, but I'm starting to believe that whatever value I changed while in super user mode before my problems began are going to make it impossible to fix...
The hardware I'd should be 0x1949, and at this point I'm guessing maybe something is wrong with something in the data partition or you have a bad kernel. I don't know how to wipe the data partition from fastboot though. I don't know if kffa reflashes the boot partition, but you could always try that since a system reflash didn't work, or you could try reflashing the system image again, there's another tool in the android development section called kindle fire system restore tool, maybe it will work better for you. Here's the other tool: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1951254
Ignore the part about that adb command, that's only for of your kindle can actually boot up.

Be very careful of what guides you use around here. Some of them (fastboot guide in particular) are made with the original Kindle Fires in mind, and can lead you to do irreversible damage.
I'll try that in the morning... I spent most of my day at this and need a break! Thank you so much for trying to help me out. I really appreciate any and all pointers.

I Deleted SetupWizard.apk, I then reinstalled SetupWizard.apk from a Galaxy something
Now when i turn on my device, it loads up, says "Setup Wizard has stopped" and contiunes to inform me this everytime I hit ok. Can't change any settings, and the device is not able to be switched into adb mode, but it is recognized as simply a kindle on my PC. Is there any hope?? if i could get to settings im sure i could figure something out.

Do you have a factory cable?
If you don't you can order one from skorpn
or you can make one if you know how to solder
Once you have it, it's easy to deal with your problem

The factory cable is a little different. But, you may not need one.
Turn your device off and enter the following command:
Code:
fastboot -i 0x1949 getvar product
When you see "waiting for device" turn your KFHD on and that should put it in fastboot mode. In fastboot, you will be able to restore a stock "system.img" and repair your device.

He has a KFHD 7" and he chose the correct restore option, What makes you say that?!
It is okay, Don't panic.
But you really need a fastboot/factory cable now, Once you have it,
Let us try something a little different, You now have 3 .img files in you backup folder in C:\KFFirstAide\backup, Correct?
Take those files outside the folder now they are in C:\KFFirstAide
Hold down Shift and right click anywhere in the folder
Choose Open command window here
Turn off your device and then connect the fastboot cable, The device should power up and then fastboot logo is displayed
Copy and paste these commands in the command prompt window
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash boot boot.img
Should say
sending...
okay (time)
writing...
okay (time)
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot -i 0x1949 flash system system.img

It was never actually confirmed what Kindle Fire HD he is using.
I've flashed my system.img dozens of times and I've never seen anything like he's describing. From what I've seen, and considering the system.img was sent, we're looking at two possible scenarios; there was a malfunction in prokenexxusa's software OR user error played a part in the the resulting outcome.
Of the two, it's generally safe to assume the latter.

So is it fixed?
Sent from my KFTT using xda premium
Hello there. I recently rooted my kindle fire HD 7" (2 days ago) and have since been customizing it to my hearts extent. Yesterday I decided to install a custom ROM. It doesn't matter which one as I didn't even get to install it. After putting the twrp .img file and the freedom boot .img file onto the sdcard and installing fireflash, I ran fireflash as specified here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271909 ( I did not follow the backup step as it said it was not mandatory, I realize now that I should have). I have ordered a factory cable, however I would prefer if there were a way to unbrick without one. I am still quite a noob at this stuff. I looked around on XDA to see if I could find my problem (and solution) elsewhere, however the only similar problems to mine didn't have conclusive answers. If there is no way to fix it without a factory cable, a link to how to fix it with the cable would be appreciated.
More details on my issue:
Device: Kindle Fire HD 7"
Issue: Device turns on, stays for approximately 4 secs, and shuts off/repeats.
Extra: No backup has been made (except for a clockworkmod nandroid backup on the sdcard I made with an app a while ago)
I do not have a factory cable, though i have ordered one and can still cancel it. I would prefer not to use it though.
I have tried using the Kindle fire unbricking utility, though I assume that it is either meant for original fires or requires a factory cable (It usually says Error: device not found or <waiting for device>.
I have the Android sdk adb package installed.
Thank you in advance
Summary: My kindle fire hd is stuck on a boot loop. If there is a way to unbrick it without a factory cable that would be phenomenal.
Same situation, but I have factory cable...anyone can help?
You don't use adb commands with fastboot, also that command is what you would normally run to get into fastboot from an unbricked device, seeing as you have a fastboot cable, you don't need to run any commands. Once you plug your kindle in with the fastboot cable your kindke should power on and display "fastboot" on the screen. If it does that much, I believe kindle fire first aid can do the rest from here.
Edit: just to verify, when you said factory cable, you didn't mean the cable that came with the device did you? Because that's just a standard cable.

Thanks! I'm assuming this will unroot the device, is that true? Also since my last attempt obviously failed, could you provide either a link or just tell me how I would go about fully backing up the system? Also would backing up the system have made a difference at all in this situation?
Thanks for all your help!
This doesn't unroot it, because in order to make that image it restores from, we have to have it rooted. Backups are very useful, especially your boot0 and data partitions. Your boot0 block is unique to every kindle and stores data such as your serial number and mac address and such, so it is always a good idea to back it up, and your data partition usually doesn't get messed up when messing with the system but its also so a good idea to back it up. The rest you can get off the forums, though be careful with flashing bootloader images from the forum, if you DL the wrong one or the right one and don't check its integrity by viewing its md5sum, you can hard brick the device. BTW the instructions for backing up your kindle are in that link u have in the first post. You just need to have a copy of adb lying around and know how to use command prompt. Kffa might also have a backup option, but I don't know what partitions it covers.

KFFA doesn't back up the data partition. It only backs up 11 of the Kindle's partitions, including the system, boot, and recovery partitions. I learned this the hard way. If you want to back up your data, use TWRP.

That's alright, if I ever do brick it again (hopefully I won't) I can just use Gamekiller (better version of GameCIH) to get back to roughly where I used to be in games, etc. and I could care less about my accounts and info since I didn't have much on it. (I'm assuming that's what you're talking about when you say "data")

@stunts513, Hey, I just restored my Kindle with the factory cable and KFFA, and it worked! It had a little trouble the first time turning on, as it would show the logo for a while, the screen would flash and suddenly the logo would go again, this time animated, for a long time. I restarted it and tried again a few times till it finally worked. I hope this won't become a problem in the future, but for now thank you so much stunts for helping me with this! I'm afraid this is the end of custom ROM's for me, since I'm too worried about this happening again to do it. Without further ado, I'll get out of your hair for the time being, but again thanks for all the help.

This will require a fair bit of research since you seem pretty new, but don't worry, this is easily fixable. You should invest in a factory cable (Maybe around $10) so you can plug your kindle in and get it into fastboot. Then, follow Hashcode's how to on flashing 2nd bootloader and recovery, so you can flash a stock or custom ROM and get everything up and running. Or, you could get Kindle Fire First Aide, plug your device in with factory cable, and choose the option to flash back to stock with fastboot. Before you get Fastboot commands working properly, you must install the drivers I have attached at the bottom. Just extract the one file inside and install through device manager. Your first time in Fastboot, your PC will probably fail at catching correct drivers and your Kindle will come up as an unknown device like Tate-PVT-08 or something, you just right click it in device manager and install drivers manually. Navigate to the folder and let it do its thing, then you're all set.

Thanks a lot
OK, here's the thing...
I hadn't used my Kindle Fire HD for a few days but when I went to read a book (Yep.. Someone who actually uses their KFHD to read books!) I found, much to my disappointment that Amazon had managed to completely wipe it by doing one of their (in)famous OTA updates!
Being totally hacked off at this, I decided to follow the advice on here and Rooted it, which was surprisingly easy and went without a hitch.
I also decided to follow the advice and prevent further OTA updates by removing the "otacerts.zip" file but, on restart I still got an "Updating..." message.
In the same folder as otacerts.zip there was also an "otacerts" folder, which I also removed and this stopped the "Updating...." message.
Excellent, I thought except when I went to Re-Register the device, I get a "No Network Connection" error message which requests that I connect to a wireless network - except that the device IS connected and I can browse the internet quite happily.
Everything I have tried since then has failed to get rid of this error - even multiple Factory Resets have not cured it - and an hour chatting to one of their Tech Bods couldn't resolve it either.
I have tried downloading the latest update from Amazon but, as it is the same version as on my device, it does nothing.
I thought if I re-instated the otacerts stuff it might cure the problem - except during the many updates it seems to have been dumped as I can no longer find the files on my device.
I guess the bottom line is that I don't have to register with Amazon to get my device working, I have purchased a number of items from them and these will not reinstall if I cannot register the device.
So, here's my question: Can anyone help me please?
If you have a local copy of otacerts.zip that you can let me have (I have scoured Google trying to find a downloadable without success), I can try re-installing that and see if it corrects the error.
Failing that, does anyone know how to force a KFHD to do an "update" to the same software version - or can the software be rolled back and then re-updated?
Any help/advice/suggestions would be gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance.
Just restore a older system image from kindle fire first aid, that should do the trick, it will even put it into fastboot for you so it can do this, though I can't seem to remember if it tries to do it via adb or fastboot itself, so if it doesn't want to boot into fastboot via the default way in the script u have to simply use adb and run: adb shell "su -c 'reboot bootloader'". Sorry if that was a bit of excess info, just covering my bases. You also may need the driver in my signature once its in fastboot, but I'm leaning towards probably not since the USB debugging was previously on so you already have adb drivers installed.
On another note should something bizarre happen and you get stuck in a bootloop from this, you'll need a fastboot cable to get back into fastboot to fix.

Thanks.

BIG THANKS!!
It took a while to figure out and work through but I now have a fully rooted, fully working, fully registered KFHD, complete with Google Play and Live Wallpapers!!
Now, all that's left is to re-install all the stuff I lost....
Wish me luck!
Thanks again for your guidance - much appreciated!
Hello. I am having trouble with my first gen Kindle Fire HD. About two weeks ago it flipped itself into Fastboot mode and has stubbornly refused to kick back out of it since then. I have researched and tried many methods, but I am not a hardcore tech guy.
Here are the details and what I have tried so far:
- This kindle had a stock operating system and was never rooted
- I have tried holding the power button down for 20 seconds (and longer)
- I installed Android studio and the Kindle fire drivers. Attempted to reboot it using the command line tools. System refuses to give its serial number when queried using Adb devices command even after using the android update/kill-server/start-server commands. Accepts the reboot command, but does not leave fastboot when it reboots.
- Bought a factory cable, tried the above method again. Did not work. Same results.
- Downloaded Qemuroot program. Program fails to execute properly every time.
- Tried the Kindle Fire HD restore tools. Computer sometimes claims it is pushing the files to the kindle, but then nothing changes. Tried all available options except wiping user data and cache.
- Tried uninstalling the Kindle drivers and reinstalling just to see if there was an error there. Didn't work, but my computer does identify it as a Kindle Fire instead of as a Tate-PVT-08
I am at the end of my technical skills and what I can learn via google and internet forums. Since it's not completely bricked, just stubbornly indifferent, I thought maybe the good folks here might have some more options for me to try.
Any advice or help will be most appreciated.
Thank you!
Bumping this because I still need help...

I was told today that it is completely bricked and that it is a manufacturing issue. Sadly, it is two years old, so I doubt Amazon will be very cooperative about fixing it.
