How to choose which accounts to auto sync - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HI,
How do I choose which accounts I want to auto sync? When I go into that option, I see all my accounts and on the top, there is just the option to turn it off/on. I only want auto sync for Exchange and gmail. All the rest (Facebook, etc) I want off.
Thanks
David

Go in to Accounts and Sync
Tap on one of your accounts that you do NOT need syncing
then you may see sync options
OR
tap on the account name again
you should see ticked options (that indicate what is being sync'd) un-tick the options

Explain all the sync options?

OK there are many setting to do with syncing - that I cleaerly dont' understand how they interact
a) Settings - Accounts & sync. Background data If this is set to disallow - then I assume nothing sync's ever?
b) If background data is enabled - then you have "auto-sync" - which seems to mea - allow the accounts listed below it - to sync automatically
c) Each account has its own sync options
d) Each account in Google mail - has its own sync options
e) each account in eMail has its own sync frequency
(why do we have gmail email and email e-mail (which I have setup for gmail anyway) with different sync settings?
How to apps with their own sync options sync? Are they over-ridden by the Background data option?
Basically I seem to be pulling down data over 3G and I don't understand why
Explanations appreciated
(confused!)
Graham
In settings those are just google sync options, plus a few others that pop up there; last.fm, facebook, probably the official twitter application.
Gmail and email are two separate applications, hens the different settings.
In a perfect world the applications would be designed to no pull data when you don't want to, but some don't.
If you don't want data then don't enter anything for your APN and that will never pull any data because that tells the internet where to get data from.

Don't want to sync Gmail Contacts

Hi There!
I want to stop my i9000 syncing contacts with my GMAIL Account. In fact I want to turn off email and calendar syncing as well. I run Stock ROM.
Also how do I turn off the sweep glass, and change it for something like a pull down like on the htc mini?
Where can I find the settings for the ADW Launcher, seems good in some ways but limited in others. I can't create a shortcut to contacts for example.
Thanks in advance.
disconnect from internet wifi etc
settings
accounts and sync
make sure background data and auto sync are ticked
tap on your gmail account
untick contacts and calendar, leave mail ticked
exit and re-enable internet wifi etc
not sure about the other two requests... I use a lock pattern for unlock

What is a lock pattern?
I have done that as per your instructions thank you. That worked.
Can I also know how I can make sync occur over wifi if available? Better still sync every 5 minutes on wifi, and manually on 3g? Also how do I turn off 3g?

[Q]Is there any way to force sync calendar

Hi, I used to have a HTC Desire before switching to the SGS. The Desire had a Sync now app, which basically allowed me to start/force the sync process for my calendars. Which was especially convenient when I wanted to edit some events on the computer and wanted to.see.the results immediately...
I can't find a similar function on my SGS. So I'd love to know whether it burried somewhere deep in the menus or is it really not there at all? If the latter's the case, I'd like to know if there is any third party app that can force start a sync process.
Thx.

Try Settings > Accounts and sync > select the account you want to sync under "Manage accounts", you should then see options to Sync Contacts, Sync Calendar, etc.
you could also use the Power control widget on Froyo to disable and re-enable the sync. It usually forces the applications to sync.

Almost, once I was in the account details I had to press menu key and then a sync now option appeared.
Thx for the suggestions.

[Q] auto sync selected apps

is it possible to auto sync certain apps only? the whole list in the Account and Sync settings can be enabled or disabled. but i want only one or two apps to auto sync. thanks
i think i got it. we need to go to each individual app in (Accounts and Sync) and un-check Sync (calendar, msgs, contacts etc etc..) which ever app u need sync leave it all checked.. hope this works

How to enable Auto-Sync?

The issue started with Chrome bookmarks not syncing to the phone. So i went to Chrome>Settings and found out that "Sync isn't working" . So next i went to Account settings, but i couldn't find a auto-sync option there. Just a Sync now option regarding various account components (Calendar, Chrome, Contacts, etc). After syncing every component, my bookmarks still weren't synced to the phone.
After more research online i learned that Auto-Sync has to be enabled for Chrome to sync correctly. But i can't find from where to enable auto-sync. Everybody said from Settings>Data Usage, but there is no Data Usage menu anywhere. I also checked every menu and sub menu under Settings, and no Auto-Sync option.
Android version is 7.0 and build EVA-L19C432B386.
On my P9 it's like this:
Go to Settings, open "Accounts", tap on "Google" and choose what you want to sync.
Did that, does not work
Unfortunately i can't add screenshots yet (not enough posts) but i went exactly there and pressed the "Sync now" button at the bottom. It began to sync each component (a rotating sync icon appeared besides each) and when it finished i opened back Chrome, but no bookmarks.
A difference would be that in my case underneath each component it says "Auto-sync off, touch to sync", but this is because the Auto-sync option is globally turned off. I think i first have to enable it, and then the sync option from Accounts>Google will work too.
I looked at my P9, and the auto-sync can be enabled in Settings > Accounts > three dots in the right corner. Note that when the energysavingsmode is enabled, it is not possible to enable the auto-sync option.
I hope this helps
Yeap, that was the problem; power saving mode was enabled.
Very good solution
Yes , that's right. You can not turn on Auto sync while power saving is on. First, you should turn it off.
Thanks allot.
Thanks mate

I stumbled upon this myself too on Mate 10 Pro; Google not being able to sync and thus missing bookmarks in chrome. It was regardless of power saving mode. For email I use stock email app. Always when I open the app, a message appears that auto sync is turned off. Only when I enabled auto sync from here ("press here to enable auto sync") , is Google sync able to run.
