[Q] Strange mobile data issue after upgrade - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, i flashed this firmware for my note http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/3/?download=15783 and everything went as usual and seemed to be fine (flashed using odin and kernel changed to latest compatible philz with zip update). But then i noticed that mobile internet isnt working and that the apn was not set. i set the apn manually but no luck. the mobile internet icon doesnt even show up in the notification bar. Tried restarting, factory resetting, even reflashing but no luck.
I thought maybe its my carrier so i tried my sim in another phone and internet worked. After that i tried other carrier sims in my note and their internet worked instantly.
Does anyone have any idea that doesnt involve trying different rom

I've have read somewhere similar problems with different roms and sims cards. The only thing I can think of is trying a different modem. You don't have to change your rom, as you have stated. Here is the thread:

[Q] How to Fix? Galaxy S "Emergancy Calls Only" After Odin Flash

Hi,
I have a samsung Galaxy S, and it was horribly branded, so i tried wiping the software, 1st time I tried it, I got no signal at all (don't know why?!), forgot what software it was because its been deleted.
Since then, in an attempt to fix it I flashed I9000XWJS3 with Odin.
Now it shows I have signal but "Emergency Calls Only" is shown where the network operator should be. Why is this?
This is a used phone that i bought from ebay, can't remember wether I got signal on the branded OS. Could it be a faulty sim tray or a fault with the phone? Or it is software?
Any ideas on how to fix? Please Note: I am a UK resident, My network is o2.
any other details needed let me know.
ALSO: If I go into network settings and select o2 as the network, it tries to connect but just ends up saying "Unable to connect. Try later"
Does it show signal as well? What I mean is do you have full.signal and it still shows the tab emergency calls only?

Yes, phone still shows it has signal, just emergancy calls only
Ok. Under settings what is the baseband version? I had this issue when I was on darkys rom and the only way to fix it was a reboot. But that would happen several times a.day.
Recently I have changed to docs rom and cooked fairly stock Tom and instead of jpy modem I used jpe and haven't encountered.the problem since.
Also you.might want to clean the sim card contacts.

Rom Kitchen build your own rom and pick the CSC for your network .

Network Error after 2.1 unbranded flashed

Hi all, well, here is my problem.
I have my stock rom 2.1 eclair from Personal, Argentina, and i flash the phone to put the 2.1 ARO (Unbranded). After the flash, the phone works great for a while, then i lost connection, and i coulnt connect to my network anymore. I couldnt performs calls, sms, or whatever related with communication. I only have wifi.
If i access to Mobile Networks -> Net Operators, the phone keeps searching and never retrieve the list of network operators. My apn list is empty, and i couldnt add new ones, mannually or by APN Restore & Backup software. The network mode is not selected, but if i choose one mode, it doesnt selected it.
I Flashed the phone with Odin, with and without repartition, but it still having errors.
Any one can help me?
Factory reset first .
jje
i've performed a factory reste, but nothing happends...
try to deactivate the mobile data and restarting the phone this worked once for me, if that doesnt work i would suggest trying another rom this also worked once for me. And if all else fails then your gonna have to send it back for repair, i had to do that last time this happened. I put on the 2.2 update from my carrier and told them that the phone messed up after updating.
The endless searching for a carrier is normal, but you should be able to enter apns manually. Search for the code to check IMEI and confirm you have one listed.
If you have a backup of your efs file, you can restore that and see if it solves the problem, or load an Argentinian csc file (they may have one in the ROM Kitchen that you can cook as an update.zip) .

gingerbread att tab

Just flashed the new gingerbread rom. Works great but it doenst recognize my sim card or network. I have att tab. Any help to restore it?
Did you remember to download the Modem package too? That's what I'm guessing.
sent from my Galaxy Tab using Cerebral up-link
Did you flash the version with the bootloader? Any whiteline issue on boot?
No I didn't download or flash a modem do I need to? I flashed the one with the bootloader. No whiteline I noticed.
I flashed with bootloader, tried 2 different modems, and no network. wifi works. tried flashing back to stock and everything went crazy. While I was using Odin, I STUPIDLY, plugged in my Captivate to charge without thinking, causing Odin to fail and I got the "phone - ! - PC" Icon.......talked about scared! Ended up using Roto's ATT stock image and Odin to get it back running again, barely. Now I get CRAZY lines when I boot (like if you tweaked the cable to an LCD screen), can't see Recovery screen....total craziness. Still no data. so I flashed back to OverCome Gingerbread ROM following his instructions, still no data
UNTIL
I swapped the SIM card with my phone. I suddenly got data on my Tab, but data would not function on my phone. Seems like the problem follows my SIM. Background: I also had a weird issue before hand where I couldn't open the Market on Cellular data without killing the data connection on Stock Rooted.
Thought I'd share.
EDIT: oh, and I can send text messages without issue.
Go to Settings, Wireless & Network, Mobile Networks, Access Point names and make sure you have one called Broadband (assuming you are on the ATT monthly data only plan)
If you dont, create a new APN and name it Broadband & make the APN Broadband as well. Just leave the other options and save it & select it.
I think by default it comes up with the ATT wap.cingular APN with doesnt work with the Tab Data plan.

Gingerbread 2.3.3 installed modem does not work
AT&T monthly pay as you go. What modem.bin do I load? Where can I get it. Is there any additional setup instructions?
Follow my instructions above and flash the JK3 modem fromt this thread.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1069727
Mine keeps saying insert sim card to access. So how do I get it to recognize the sim?
Please anyone with some help? Can I store back to original att froyo and just wait for official upgrade?
Have you guys entered in your APN settings for ATT Broadband?
I am also having a strange radio issue. I am using an ATT Tab with Overcome v2.0 Beta 2 and the JK3 modem. 3G data works great until I try to access the Google Android Market. As soon as I do it drops the 3G connection and wont come back until I reboot it. If I dont go to the market or only go to the market on WiFi it works just fine. I also verified that the same behavior happens with the JPZ modem..
My theory is somehow ATT is blocking Gingerbread Tabs from going to the market using their SIM card. Therefore I think maybe I need to edit my build.prop to spoof them. Can anyone recommend which values should be changed? Can anyone think of anything else that could cause this? Can anyone reproduce this issue on their ATT tab?

You used the bootloader patch app, right?
Reinstall the stock 2.3, then the root, then overcome. Follow the overcome guide, this time put the modem.bin in the phone slot in odin. There is no other fox for the wiggly lines. If you don't reflash everything, you can't get into recovery mode.
i cant get into the network settings as it tells me to insert a sim. I tried to flash the modem as well with no luck.
ok so I turned on my tab to play with it a bit and I had data! It was an H and seemed to work. When I restarted the tab it stopped working and said no sim again.
1) The Gingerbread rom has a modem with it that works fine on AT&T.
2) Did you leave your sim card in while flashing?
i did leave my sim in while flashing. Should I have it out? It seems the tab only recognizes the sim card every so often. Not all the time. Any way to flash the sim recognition part?
Could you please post how you flashed your att tab so I can follow it? Thanks.

Recovered from camera problem...now dealing with network issue!! PLEASE HELP!!

A few months ago, i had the non-function problem with my camera after using the firmware update code, on my SG I9000. I resolved that with some help from a friend, by downgrading to Eclair (JM1_JM1_U_JM1.tar) and switching the camera files - the usual method. After reboot, the camera was working fine but appeared the problem with the network - "NO SERVICE".
Till now, I used different versions of android (Eclair, Froyo, Gingerbread) to fix it without any luck.
If you know any other method, i'll owe you one big time.
Thanx!
Note: I have to say that, before having the camera issue, I unlocked my rooted phone using "GALAXY_S UNLOCK" from Android Market.
maybe you can try to flash your phone to the latest firmware such as XXJVU by using odin.
have you rooted your phone again after using different android version? if not, try rooting it, then unlock it with apps from the market, this would fix the "no service" problem.
you could also try flashing it with a different modem.

Thanx for the answer!

I tried flashing with different modem but without any good result until now. Today I'll try again with a different modem (something with a file "7zip" transformed in a folder ".tar"...I'm new with this, i know nothing about it so a friend is helping me).
If this doesn't work, I'm trying the rooting method you're telling me about.
Thanx for all!
The JVT modem is pretty god as well. you can flash the tar or zip files by using sgs kernel flasher from market or by odin.

Thanx guys!
It seems that I resolved it, using the I9000XXJVU_I9000OXAJVU_OXA modem (Open Europe). At first, when the phone rebooted there was no signal...it appeared that the problem persisted, but now, after the factory reset (*2767*3855# ) everything seems to work just fine.
Still, I don't remember if SGS signal icon shows the 3G indicator in the upper taskbar (like the SGS 2), because mine doesn't! Can anyone confirm if it's wright or not?
Last edit: It seems the 3G doesn't work, as i tried to access the internet an icon pops saying "No network connection / Cannot connect to internet. Please check your connection settings and try again" - "Settings" and "Ok". If I press "Settings", it takes me to the "Wireless and Network" Menu.
SO, ANY CLUE?
Thanx again!
Have you tried flashing a different modem? What carrier are you on and what modem are you currently using?
Had a bit of a browser glitch, there were zero replies a minute ago.

I'm using an Orange Romania prepay card...and now the installed version is I9000XXJVU (the latest 2.3.6 - Open Europe).
I have signal but without 3G, i think, cause the internet connection doesn't work...only wi-fi does.
with the 3g problem, i think you need to edit your apn settings.
settings > wireless and network > mobile network settings > access point names
this is network specific and you might want to check it with your provider

I'll check the APN settings later today, after work, and if the problem persist I'll take it to Orange Romania.
I'll let you know the result!
Thanx everyone for your help!

I got home, set on my SGS the same APN settings from the SGS-2 I'm using now with the Orange Romania card, and it seems to work...at least I don't get the "No network connection / Cannot connect to internet" message anymore and the H/3G icon now appears near the signal icon in the upper taskbar.
I stiil have to run some tests to be 100% sure it really works.
I'll be in touch!

After factory reset can't connect to network

Please help people,
I have a s3 mini that I've changed a cracked display. After that I've decided to do a hard reset, when it booted I couldn't connect to my network provider. I've tried changing the ROM, flashing a different radio, now I've flashed back the original firmware I've downloaded from SamMobile. The problem is still here, please help :S
Probably a hardware problem....
Have you tried to set manually APN settings?
If it's unlocked from network try another sim card, why factory reset?, no more panic rom flashes, sensible thought process ?
