[REQ] regarding RIL for our phone - LG Optimus 4X HD

as you guys may or may not know, we have some very skilled devs working on our device porting/deving roms & kernels
however, the issue that remained on all custom 4.2.2+ roms are problems with RIL. not all people have it, but those that do, have some serious issues with it.
lately, i had above-the-average number of bugs due to RIL issues; calls not going through to me (the other person hears ringing sound, while my phone doesnt ring for me at all), people sending me an sms and me never recieving it (and they get sms delivery report), and 3g data not working all of a sudden (easy fix, just enable/disable data again)
now, it seems that its an issue with the way CM team programmed RIL - @kholk, one of the devs noticed these issues and rewrote the RIL for our device. while he works on the devices whenever he has free time, that's not often, and his 4.3 CM is far from stable (one of the reasons is that he was actually the first one to push 4.3 for our device).
however, P.A. port for our device by @dcos incorporates kholk's RIL, and it works flawlessly!
now, what I'd like to ask our devs, people who have really pushed the device to its limits, is when building/porting a rom for our device, to use kholks RIL. i know most, if not all of you guys dont have connection problems, but many users do. unfortunately, my knowledge is too limited to compile my own roms, so I'd like to ask if you guys could include EPRJ RIL instead of official CM RIL in your future rom builds.
@laufersteppenwolf, @demetris_I, @Adam77Root you're the guys i'm mostly asking this, and i was thinking of sending you PMs, but i wanted our phone users to see this topic, comment on it, and give their oppinions.
thank you in advance

You can change the RIL easily. Here is a small tutorial:
0.) Read some tutorials about simple apktool modding.
1.) Grab /system/framework/telephony-common.jar from kholk's EPRJ-CM and the target rom.
2.) Decompile both with apktool.
3.) Copy com/android/internal/telephony/X3RIL.java from kholk's to the target.
4.) Recompile target with apktool.
5.) Let me know the result.

thanks for the tutorial. i'll give it a try either tonight or tomorrow night! hope i'll make it work

And how can you be shure that problem isnt coused by bad network or something regarding netwok operator ? This problem reminds me on my old phone when i whould miss calls (i am not shure about SMS there wa delay but i cant precise tell you how much) and it was coused by bad SIM card and signal (1 of that 2 ) since my network in some spots will try to get better signal and in that time if someone whould call me i whould be unavailable. Are you shure that RIL is cousing this problem ?

i'm positive it's the RIL
it isnt bad connection, i read -60 to -90 db on my home network which is decent, plus i didnt have the issue with stock and stock-based rom. also, other people have the issue. if needed i can provide logs, but i'll do my best to rebuild the roms i need with kholks ril, and reupload them in case other people have same issues as i do.

wll, result is classes.dex file which i dunno how to integrate back into telephony-common.jar. any tips? i'm trying to find an answer online but i only get topics on how to convert java file into .dex, not vice versa
edit:
nvm, found it out, i should repack it with winzip and meta-inf from original .jar file
edit2:
well, i installed the edited rom, it's booted up. now, question is, how to confirm if the modded ril is installed x) time to test it out! thanks for the tutorial

dude, I have the same issues as you, but for me, PA rom doesn't work, i tried everything, just happens with custom roms, with any stock based rom everything work fine, please let me know if porting kholk RIL works for you, and what ROM are you using it, i'm desperate

Actually I'm pretty sure the new 4.3 ROMs have the updated RIL by CM and is completely fixed.
But I'm not sure if you can take a 4.3 RIL and install it on a 4.2.2 ROM

I still having this issue, even using kholk's code based roms, last night i tried with Vanir Araragui's customized, but the issue is even worst every 10 or 15 min the signal drops down, signal bars turns gray and never get connected again, airplane mode gets stuck, the solution? reboot...

well, for me kholks ril fixes all the issues, it seems. i'm usign pac port by adam with modified ril, and i havent had any issues so far in these two-three days

I have also had RIL problems, especially losing data, not being able to receive calls and delayed SMS transfers. However I think that kholk's RIL is already pushed to CM (that's what he said) . Maybe it's another bug?

No, I haven't implemented it, since the CM RIL is working well for me and I don't have time to test something that could take a long time to fail.

GTalk Video on CM10 - Solutions & Opinions

Hey all,
The GTalk video call fc bug on CM10 has been discussed sparsely in various threads and in order not to spam/pollute them even more with posts regarding the issue i decided to make a new one, just to figure out if it really works ok for some and why's that. Recently it was mentioned that if one flashes the Xoom modded gapps (by EOS team - found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1777987) he'll get video call running since the EOS team has modded the package in order to work with non-NEON devices (or something like that - haven't been able to find clear documentation in their thread). I flashed said gaps package and, even though the phone is able to initiate the video call in the background, i get a foreground 'unfortunately gtalk has closed' or so message. Thats definitely better than before when the program was simply crashing, but doesn't solve the issue. Audio calls run fine though. Pengus mentioned that he wiped dalvik/cache, flashed EOS gapps, rebooted and rebooted again and it worked. Didnt happen for me, still same issue on video calls. I must also note that even b4 flashing EOS gapps, i was able to do video calls and even videoconference (3 way video call) using G+ hangouts, so it must be a program specific issue more than a general android libs situation (excuse my ignorance - doing my best to understand how things work in this OS ). So how do this run for you people? Is there anyone who managed to get it running fine on CM10, and if yes, can you give some details on your current setup? Also, if you did manage to get it running, did you follow a different flashing procedure than the one mentioned here? Thanx for your replies/participation
My current setup: CM10 3/1 nightly, old BL, v28e BB, EOS gapps
Peace

Hi,
here is what I did to solve this: I just took the libvideochat_jni.so from the eos-package and pushed it to /system/lib. Afterwards I cleared gtalk data and cache, restarted the device. Finally I could do video-calls
I've also attached the libvideochat_jni.so I used, maybe someone can make a flashable zip from it. I'm on pengus latest rom+kernel by the way.

I installed the gapps and gtalk video work after my first reboot.
gTalk video doesn't work for me either... Hangouts work, even though they had a hard time starting to work, but eventually I was able to do a video conference, after some hangs and reboots...
The simplest of features don't work on android 4.x... I like the fluidity but this is starting to get irritating...

UPD: seems i have fixed GTalk video...
You need to take from eos Talk.apk, libvideochat_jni.so, libvideochat_stabilize.so and check, if you have original /system/lib/hw/camera.tegra.so. If you experimented with ICS cam, camera.tegra.so possibly changed.

GPS FIX - LG servers / Mackey's FIX / Tweaked by DCOP7

Hi,
I had a few problems with GPS in IZS so I search a bit and try to compile a fix. For me, this appears to be working... But other testers and appreciated
You just have to do the fowling:
In recovery, flash the attached zip
After reboot, using a app like GPS Test (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.chartcross.gpstest&hl=en), clear AGPS data
Please, give feedback.
UPDATE:
I've uploaded a new fix (GPS_fix_2_world). This is a different fix from the other, one that isn't depended on any continent.

UPDATE2 - NEW FIX - From Mackey
I've upload a new GPS fix - GPS_FIX_WORLD.zip
This fix is based on Mackey/ShenDu/MokeeOS's ROM, and to be sincere, it is the best fix I've ever seen so far. I've got a lock within a minute without any data/wifi on, without any AGPS data...
Steps for this fix:
Turn off wifi/mobile data (so that it wont download any new AGPS data)
Clear the AGPS data (to be a clean slate)
Reboot to recovery
Flash the fix
Clear cache and dalvik cache (this is the first time I tried and it seems a important step for the fix to work)
Reboot and that's it
Please, try it and give feedback!
UPDATE3 - NEW FIX - Using LG server
After many hours of testing... He is my conclusion. The GPS alone can't get a useful signal...
To make this new fix work...
turn off the AGPS*
clear the AGPS data
delete the files (not folder) in /data/gps
reboot to recovery and flash (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=42195149&postcount=56)
reboot
open an app like GPS Status and download the AGPS data only from the app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2)
* To turn on/off the AGPS go to localization services and turn on the option that is something like "use wifi and/or mobile data to determine your location"
Don't use AGPS from localization services... You just have to download the AGPS from time to time.
UPDATE4: NEW GPS FIX TWEAKED BY DCOP7
I've made a new fix and I want a few testers. Who can help me?
To make this new fix work...
turn off the AGPS*
delete the files (not folder) in /data/gps
reboot to recovery and flash GPS_fix_tweaked_by_dcop7.zip
Turn on mobile data of Wifi and open GPS Status or something. This will download a file explained below
Need to turn on mobile data or wifi when getting a GPS signal every few days to refresh the file downloaded in point 4.
* To turn on/off the AGPS go to localization services and turn on the option that is something like "use wifi and/or mobile data to determine your location"
What is the difference between this fix and other fixes?
This fix is configured to download the information: Long Term Orbits. This information is like and enhanced AGPS data. The Mackey fix sometimes use this information, that is why some people get a lock very fast, even if they clear AGPS (this information isn't cleared when GPS Status clean the AGPS data). To clear every bit of AGPS data, delete the files present in /data/gps (point 2).
What took me a long time to understand is when this information is downloaded, what interval, etc... It was difficult to understand why the Mackey fix download this information without any patter. That is why, with Mackey fix, after a few days, the GPS performance dropped.
I think I figure it out. Please, test this fix and give some feedback.

Cm10.1 and no change after flash. Maybe the issue is CM itself
I'll try another place with IZS tomorrow.
Thank you for your work, I am curious to read other experiences on JB.
It was my reason for switching from JB to IZS. GPS never worked for me on JB, but it's working as a blast on IZS. I don't know how huexxx did it, but I always have a fix within 5 seconds outside, and within 20 seconds inside.

[MOD] Phone calls on CM10.1 / AOKP 4.2.2

Hey guys, this is my first post on the forum.
Many people got phone calls on stock ICS, then changed to 4.2.2 and lost it
But while seeking the forum, I GOT IT AT LAST!!
Although, it has a bug, which is when u receive a call and slide the call button, as soon as u press it it says "unfortunately, the process com.android.phone has stopped working", but it might work perfectly on other ROMS
I tested it on Infamous ROM http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2220912
Here it is :
Format System (No data wipe required if ur reflashing same rom)
Install ROM, Gapps, and the file attached
Fix permissions (just incase)
Dont reboot untill u do all of that, as in dont reboot in the middle of the procedure.
There u have it
Please tell me if it worked
EDIT : works perfect on infamous 1.7.2, just extract the zip file, paste all the files in their place, and keep the phone.apk untouched (keep the original phone.apk Cruz it works)
P.S : i really appreciate Khomsn for making the CM10.1 build with phone calls, but that build is REALLY laggy.

I can make a call and stoping with push end when i'm tryng calling, on my tab sounded a ringer and working fine for receive call. everything is working fine to me.
Thanks for the effort, but this isnt working for me. I cant even get the phone apk to show anywhere. Im not even sure ifi t installs one. If there is another installation method that isnt mentioned here but that I need to do please refer me to that. Otherwise after flashign th one file above and fixing permissions I get no phone apk to even test this. Im on the infamous rom as well.

Umm... i just installed the phone.apk from Khomsn's thread as a normal apk and that seemed to fix my problem.
Otherwise. Just push the phone.apk in /system/app/ and fix permissions (i dont think fixing permissions is neccesary but i just do it incase)
Yea, Ive done that a few times and I cant get phone.apk to show in the apps list after install.

Consider installing gapps that contains a phone apk after which you flash the phone fix above. Your tab should make calls flawlessly but know that the speaker is set to off by default so you have to activate it when making a call.

Ok thanks for the reply I do need a link to the GAPPS with a phone apk though , unless of course the GAPPS for the tab 10.1 comes with it but why would it. If Im wrong please let me know.
EDIT: Ok so my bad, looks like I need a 3g tab and I have a wifi tab. Thanks for the help nevertheless.
Do search for gapp of 20121212, it contains a phone apk. Gapps for custom roms often contain the apk.

i think it's the META-INF that's the issue.
i'll try to put them in another zip and reply.
BTW: i've got a build of infamous aokp with phonecalls "without the need to do anything" but i think im gonna need permission to upload it.
But for the time-being, i think installing the phone.apk like a normal app will work "iv'e tried it out of curiosity and it actually installed )
but i still don't know why com.android.phone keeps FCing after opening mobile data in settings or when answering a call. Anybody got any tips.

Thank you everyone.

I assume it is like the AOSP safe mode
Im not sure how relevant it is anymore but this is the bootlooping one that I got this morning https://www.dropbox.com/s/0xselzb81kfvjiw/Sense4-PreAlpha-0.1.zip
It's using the show pointer and has a dialer issue.
I wanna get past this "Unfortunately, Dialer has stopped." issue before I upload.

I also assume wifi is broken
Might be apn related. Push apns.conf and eri.xml from the Inc's framework-res.apk into this rom. Also make sure you're using all the ril files for the Inc. Take a backup of your build in case you screw up. It looks like wifi is broken from the logcat. How about sound? I'm kind of anxious to work on it. With a nearly fully working desire build we got an easier port.

From the logcat can you see what is putting it there ... I think it may be dialer crashing and the signal being broken

I just made a few changes to support the format and mount commands in TWRP and uploaded the update-binary that should work on this ROM. I removed the symlinking of the hosts file as there was nothing in /data for the hosts file.
Also, I noticed the following are for the wrong device, /system/usr/icu, /system/usr/idc, /system/usr/keylayout, and /system/usr/keychars.
I updated those and the touchscreen works normally.

Try reinstalling just gapps.
I was really looking forward to this when I saw this post because I'm having some issues with PACMAN Rom.. tried AOKP but also issues..
So when I saw this I jumped all over it.
No problems installing, but I can't get connected to the network properly.
Internet (APN) is not working at all, can configure but doesn't connect. And other things are acting weird making me think something is badly configured on my end.. commands like *105# to check how much money I have available for calls doesn't work, it makes a phonecall instead.
Any ideas?
I'm a total newbie on these things sorry, only got my Razr M a couple of weeks ago and it's the first phone that I unlock the bootloader to try other roms. My guess is that it's not connecting properly to the network.
I'm in Bolivia at the moment, what network type should I choose? GSM ? There's to LTE here, but there's HSPDA (3.5g, right? they call it 4g here though)
When I select GSM and I look for networks it lists them, but can't connect. When I select GSM/WCDMA and reboot the phone, it apears as connected to the network. Can make calls, can't sms and can't connect to internet, also the USSD codes to check how much $$$ is left on my account don't work.
Any ideas?
sorry for the newbness overload

If you use GSM network - you must flash also GSM-fix for it - then you can edit APN.
After flash GSM-fix leave network choosing for ROM - it will choose correct network type
I attach GSM-fix for CM10.1 - it works correct with Liquid
P.S. But try clean install - all wipes, then flash ROM / GAPPS / GSM-fix
Woop
Thank You so Much! Gonna try it right away!
Again sorry for the newbness... this is all new to me. I've been a lurker reading and never posting anything and always managed to work out my little doubts, but all this with roms is totally new grounds for me.
I couldn't acess APN settings on AOKP Rom neither, is it for the same reason?
Also.. I've had a couple of issues with PACMAN Rom, crashing and rebooting when playing music using a bluetooth speaker, is that a general issue with all roms not based on motorola kernel?

1. AOKP & PACMAN have GSM-fix too (but you can use attached - it works)
2. BT is fixed now (I did not try, but I was read, that it`s fixed)
3. All this ROMs have own kernel - AOSP kernel. You can also use custom kernels - from Arrghh or Bytecode
P.S. Liquid have one issue - FC of system.ui . But it`s not for all - some people have no this..

Thanks m8!
Installed, applied fix and it's working great! and I love it! From all the roms I tried this one has the best feel.. from the smoothness to the transitions, it looks pro. Better than any other Android ui I've seen.
Have just been playing around with settings but haven't found a single problem or error. Still haven't tested out BT, fingers crossed that it's fixed! =D
Another newb question, I've seen "FC" a couple of times... what is it? Force Close, right? I read a couple of people complaning that there was an error with new SMS's that would trigger a ui FC. I've tested it- no problems!
