Does the SMS read back with Motorola Assist work with 3rd party SMS apps?
Also, anyone know if Touchless Controls works via an inline mic on headphones?

Well that sucks. I love using Textra.
I wonder about the Google voice app. I don't have one to test it on, that would be a must for me (my main number is with google)

Hello Everyone,
Does anyone know of a way to get the Captive to do a reminder that an unanswered SMS message has come in? My old phone would chime every 5 minutes until I read the message and this was kind of nice.
Thanks
check out an awesome app named handcent.
I should install that on my husband's Captivate. He NEVER checks his notifications and sometimes it goes days before he gets my texts.
Stock SMS app does not support this. Most have gone to 3rd party apps, most popular being Handcent.
Missed Reminder is a good app if you still want to use the stock SMS app.
Thank you, I'll give that a try.
handcent SMS has a option where if u didnt check the message u can set a reminder...i set mine to every 5 minutes
I use tasker and it works awesome!

That's what I use and it works great for SMS, MMS and Gmail. Only gripe is that it doesn't support regular e-mail.
Is there a way to text with Google Now through Google Voice? (If you are not familiar with Voice please don't pretend like you are) If you try to use the text command it says texting is not compatible on the device.
I would also be interested if anyone has any information on this. I remember in early ICS, it took a while to get Google Voice implemented as an option for sending text messages.

I thought I was able to get my Gnex to do it with Now on JB. But, recently it just goes to the send text confirmation and never actually does anything further.

Yes. Get the Talkatone app from Google Play, link the app to your Google Voice number as per instructions, and text or call as you like.

Interesting option to fall back on.. Have you tested it to see if the OS (and Now) sees it as an actual texting app? I'd still rather it be able to work with the native Voice app.
That's strange. My HTC Legend could distinguish between the stock app and Google Voice when using Voice Actions. It's strange that it wouldn't work now.

It seems more like the N7 version of Now simply doesn't allow texting because it doesn't think it can.
Or do I NEED to use the TouchWiz messaging app? Because I use EvolveSMS, so i was wondering if I'd still receive text message notifications on the Gear? Thanks.
Was gonna buy one today, but I saw online that the Galaxy Gear 2 is dropping in a couple of weeks with the S5! So I'll probably just wait for the Gear 2. But still wondering this question... thanks to anyone that ca help!
I use EvolveSMS and the notifactions work I can even read them just can't respond with the gear or S Voice just open on phone to respond

That kinda really sucks lol. That's the whole point to be able to respond too!
You could always send through the stock messaging app but personally i don't like S Voice kind of slow and the sound is always broke up compared to Google voice

What else can you do thru the Gear, rather than using your phone? I know you can make/accept/deny calls... but what else?! Can I, let's say, send a tweet?

I can send a tweet from mine. Although a bit of a different topic...I can also start my car from mine (directed smart start), control my thermostat at home (Nest), watch live TV (Slingplayer), get emails, check sportscenter app, sign into bank app, check fandango etc. You can do just about anything with it. Granted some things might not be as practical as when done on your phone but can be convenient on the gear in certain situations.
Oh... And I get my text notification via Handcent sent to my gear but as mentioned before I can't reply directly from that notification. I usually just send a text command through s voice to respond.

That's F'ING SICK!!! Can't wait, I'm 100% getting the Gear 2 when it comes out, I'm so excited. But what do you mean by your last statement "I usually just send a text command through s voice to respond."??
I get my text notifications through Handcent but you can't type a response or a pre typed response from that message view. I just activate s voice on the gear and say "text whomever". The gear will process that and respond with "whats your message?" I speak my message, it responds by showing a printed version of what I said and asks to confirm if I want to send it. I say yes and it sends the text.
Oh and for most of the other things I mentioned above, the gear of course requires Internet access via blue tooth tethering. Easily doable though.

How is it that you can respond to texts through S Voice i deleted the stock messaging app and use EvolveSMS but can't respond with it
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk
It isn't a "direct" response per se but when I use s voice to send a text back to the person that texted me it sends it and it falls in line with the rest of the conversation in Handcent. If that makes sense.

I use GoSMS, but whenever I get MMS I open up the stock messaging app (so I can respond while watching the video). Any messages sent/received go to both Messaging and GoSMS, so if I were to use a gear, I imagine I would get notifications on the gear through GoSMS and then just use S Voice to respond (through Messaging). When I go on my phone later, both SMS apps would still have the entire conversation.
Problem is what about when/if your phone is running KitKat and you can only run 1 messaging app....?!
I am coming from the Note 3 and love the feature to assign a specific notification tone to someone in my address book. I checked my wife's LG G2 and it has the same feature, but my I am unable to find that in my M8. Is it possible to do this or do I need another application?

I use a 3rd party messaging app for individual sms notifications. Currently it's Chomp SMS.
You can apply a ringtone, but not a notification tone. U can use GoSMS, etc., to apply individual ringtones.

Not without a 3rd party app unfortunately.......I wish it did like the Samsung phones. I had the Galaxy S3 for a long time and I miss that feature
Not sure if this is a phone or OS issue. With 4.2.1 on my Droid Razr Maxx, I could configure the phone to announce the incoming caller's name prior to ringing. On my Turbo running 4.4.4, I can't find that option. Upon an incoming call, it does not announce the name. It just rings, vibrates, etc. In the settings of the dialer, "Caller ID Readout" was the option. You could configure it to just ring, announce caller's name and then ring and a couple other things. I no longer see that option anywhere.
Anyone know how to enable this on the Turbo?
Anyone please?

Couldn't tell you. I've been using enhanced called I'd and SMS since my first droid and it handles all that and more.
Mine does it while driving, so maybe check in the moto apps.

I don't understand what that means. Is that a different app you're referring to? I'm confused.

Sorry, my edited post didn't save. I use a program called Enhanced Caller ID and SMS. I've been using it since my first droid and it does a great job of announcing callers and reading sms as well as giving you the ability to respond to sms via voice. It also works great with Bluetooth in the car. Sorry for the confusion. Have you checked your settings in the moto voice app?

Thanks. Based on your comment, I just checked Moto Voice. It appears that a similar option called "Talk to Me", under Home Assist is present where you can toggle "Read text messages and tell me who's calling", however that seems to only be allowed at a preset (Home) location. What I was referring to was global, regardless of location, etc. Should I assume this option that I'm looking for called "Caller ID Readout" has been removed from the Turbo/4.4.4? That would really suck for me, since I loved using it.
I just tried calling my phone with is option on and it doesn't work exactly as the other option. I guess it's better than not having it at all, but definitely not the same experience and the fact that it only works at a pre-set location, really sucks.
