Do you guys know if there is any way to charge our tablet wirelessly? Is Qi charger the only way? And it's not supported for the 1st gen, am I correct?
I really hate wires...
You have to mod to add a Qi wireless charging coil or a palm touchstone coil to charge wirelessly.
Or you can buy a pogo dock and use it to charge, it's close enough to wireless.
Beamed from my Grouper
There's no such thing as wireless charging, you still need the wires (going to the desktop part of the charger) and when you use that method you don't have any choice where you put the device when it's on charge.
If you just plug a cable into the device you can plonk it down anywhere the cable will reach.
http://www.phonearena.com/news/Google-Nexus-7-hack-adds-wireless-charging-voids-warranty_id37573
The short answer is of course no. Personally, I would try to opts away from attempting any mods like this; wireless charging is still; in it's infancy and is "a generation newer" than this Nexus 7 version.
WTF!!

What kind of answer is that? My phone wifi connection is not wireless just because somewhere a beautiful cell tower has to be wired to a electric plant to give us all its love??? Dude!!
Think before write and, if you don't know what to say, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease, say nothing brother.

I can't decide if you are just trolling or if you really are clueless.
In case you're serious, learn some basic physics before you shout your mouth off.
Right now - today - the only way to 'wirelessly' charge a device is to have an induction coil in it and put it right next to another induction coil which is connected BY WIRE to the mains. So while it's handy to be able to do that you can't just set it down anywhere and expect it to charge.
If it were possible to set up charging from a telephone mast miles away you would be dead from cancer (from the radiation) or cooked long before the device was charged up.
Take your own advice.
I'm not your brother.

Hi, simple math problem here. The cost of a nexus 7 1st gen (around USD 130.00 used on ebay), plus getting a coil from another device (USD 25.00 if you dont have it) maybe a broken palm pre or a touchpad on ebay, also a touchstone charger (maybe USD 25.00 on ebay) (you could also get a QI coil from another device, but then you will need the QI charger, and thats more money), That's USD 180.00, plus the shipping and the trouble of doing the mod and maybe breaking the damn thing. Let's say USD 200.00, the new nexus is USD 229.00 (IS IT WORTH IT).

You are wrong. You can wireless charge your phone (if it's capable of doing it) from the QI charger to the phone itself.
We know the QI charger must be connected in order to give power, but YES you can wireless charge your phone. I personally like to plug the damn thing, but is nice to just place your phone on the QI and let it charge by doing nothing else.

You've missed my point, sure there's no wire connecting the phone and the charger but you still have to put the phone physically 'on' the charger plate. I have a HP Touchpad and Touchstone and it's great to be able to just sit it down on the TS to charge but if I'm sitting on the sofa using it and it's low battery I have to stop using it and put it back on the TS charge it up, or plug a cable into it. In the real world you can call it wireless if you like but it's still got to be connected.

Ive came across this cool car charger and I wanted to share it with my fellow streakers. It's small, convenient, and charges just about everything. I hope you guys enjoy it as much as I do. you'll thank me for this, thats a promise.
No ones willing to give this a try? Lol
It is nice, could you post the technical information such as input & output.
comon, its not a car charger !!!! its just an adapter. a car charger would consist of some thing you plug into the car and the other end would plug into the phone. let me know when you find a REAL car charger !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yes it is, it's a car charger, mains charger, 9v battery powered charger but I doubt it outputs more than 500ma per usb port, the listing has no details on that.
I fail to understand how that plugs into my phone to charge it, WITHOUT using the cable that my phone came with ???????????
A REAL car charger for just about any other phone does not require the use of a data cable. Like i said thats just an adapter just like the one i already have.

I tried something similar to that, and it didn't work. It was a Griffin charger rated at 2.1 amps for the iPad. Not sure if that one is different since it isn't as specific as the one I picked up. I returned it immediately.
Yeah they have the one for the iPad too, its rated at 2.1 amps. Its like $28.88, this one is $12.88. Im sure if it didnt work, this one wont either. Thanks for the quick reply. Anyone try one of these and see if you can have your Nexus in host mode and charge at the same time?
Is the only option for the female Micro USB port to bring more charge to a usb device plugged in and not to bring charge
to the Nexus itself?
Two scenarios would make this ideal for me:
1.) using my usb xbox controller to play games yet still keeping my tablet charged
2.) using a usb thumb drive to play a movie while still keeping my table charged
I think this would be pretty cool if it worked but I don't know the technical details on if it can be done with our Nexus 7's:

OTG and Charging is mutually exclusive, the OTG cable triggers the USB controller to send power out to a device, not receive power.
the pogo docks on the bottom of the device are also impossible to charge from as the nexus 7 has only been given one charging circuit, and that is the same one that OTG disables.
The only way to achieve something like this would be a physical battery hack where you splice in a charging circuit direct to the battery, without frying the phone maybe some unidirectional resistors, so that it can be simultaneously charged whilst powering the device.
I'm 99% certain of this information, and this is not to say someone might hack a kernel together one day
you might be able to install one of them batteries you can just set it on a charging pad and it will charge

Wrong. https://github.com/teamhacksung/and...mmit/4c1c965b168bc4488ef66889e1c8933bc1b3de46 for an example on Galaxy S2/Note
As to whether the adapter linked is a proper OTG ACA (they're VERY hard to find) and whether the grouper supports OTG ACA is unknown. It's something a kernel developer can probably implement.
Thanks Entropy512, I can see it working on other devices, that gives me hope... I might rig something up myself now, I've wanted to take a cheap usb keyboard plastic leather cover, and build in an extra battery, card reader and usb hub, now this might be theoretically possible

I can confirm that simply splicing a standard OTG cable into the port and plugging in a power cord will not work. I thought I'd utilize the empty socket from where the rear camera was supposed to go, and try to fit the OTG-to-microSD set-up inside of the Nexus. I bought a salvaged USB/headphone port from a damaged Nexus off of Ebay for $1 and the smallest microSD adapter I could find. With the use of a ribbon cable from an old laptop, some trimming, and some REALLY careful soldering I was able to make it work... sorta. Stickmount sees the card and everything runs great, until you plug in a power cord. Then, it disables the microSD adapter, and even though Stickmount says it's there, no files are visible. Also, the Nexus won't charge with this arrangement.
It might work with a different set up, but simply mimicking the OTG cable will not allow a Stickmounted volume and when the charger is plugged in.
(BTW - To make everything fit, I had to use a Dremel to grind away some of the mid-frame area around the rear camera space. It's a tight fit, but keep in mind that until you have a spare mid-frame, like I do, you'll obviously void your warranty.)

That's the exact one I use as well. To give you an example, the Note 2 just can't be charged via standard USB port. 450mAh is not enough. I will see if I can do some testing to show you the differences visually this week.
Driving 45 min to pick up the last 64gb microSD card for sale in TN at radio shack (for $39) I had bluetooth on, sharing my data connection with my wifes tablet via foxfi, and using gps, the motorola still can charge the battery while all that was running. At my office, we would call that FM, because I can't really explain how it works just as good as my $15 2.1mAh charger.
What app are you guys using to measure charging rate?

I use a 3A charger in my car, but it's all wired in. Got myself one of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DC-DC-Con...plies_ET&var=560164310799&hash=item3ccbaa5de8 , a 3 way switch, 2 'add-a-fuse' things and wired it all up behind the dashboard with just my Micro USB cable poking out in the drivers side of the dashboard, which plugged into my old car cradle when I had the HTC Sensation. The switch is mounted in one of the blanking plates down by my right knee (right hand drive) and lets me choose between off, on and on-with-ignition for the charger. At the moment I have to plug it into the bottom of the Note 2 myself but I'm planning next to de the wireless charging mod, and integrate the charger into the cradle I have, with NFC also in there to activate car mode when I put the phone in the cradle for (IMO) the perfect solution with no wires trailed all over the car, and my lighter socket free for other things
It was all pretty cheap as well, and an easy mod to do - even though the cradle is on the opposite side of the car to the fuse box and I had to pull out the whole radio and centre console to route the wires... all hidden away now though.
I'll be doing the same on my next car as well.
I was looking at *low profile* dual USB ported chargers but it appears from my lack of knowledge that these are all wired for iPad charging and without a specific charging cable they will only supply max 1A to the Note 2. Can someone with more technical knowledge of the vagaries of USB power please clarify in simple terms?
I would have thought the iPad would take a higher current than 1A

after a trip in Thailand, owning two batteries, I was wondering if there are some sort of chargers that I can lie on a table for example and let'em "do the job", without replacing battery all the time...do u have any suggestions about model etc?
Thx in advance

Are you talking about wireless charging? Like putting a receiver in your phone and then resting your phone on a charging pad and have it charge without and cables? If that is your question then the answer is inductive or Qi charging.

Here is a video showing the Verizon note 2 with wireless charging.

Or if you are talking about charging your extra battery you can get a wall adapter for that.

Uhm, actually I didn't think about wireless, 'cause I knew that only the newest models have that module integrated, like G2 or Nexus5.
What's the difference between Qi and induction, pardon me?

That is what I meant. Thank u very much
From what I understand Qi charging is just that they have named the wireless charging platform for phones where as inductive charging is the actual science behind it all.
Unfortunately Verizon has made it somewhat difficult to make that happen on our note 2 but it can be done with some modifications.

Or also something like that:

or:

Almost all desktop cradle charges will only allow Note 2 with a thin tpu case or no case at all. Also, that other wall charger for a battery itself can only charge at max 500mA (1/4 of your typical 2A charging speed). I think for what you are looking for the cradle charger will be more appropriate.
I have been using this dock for about 6 months.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009UIVBBA/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
It charges the phone and provides also an extra slot for charging a spare battery. I would recommend it.

No modification is needed, search ebay for qi wireless, you can buy a receiver that connects to the USB port, and the actual receiver goes under the battery cover.

Afaik this is true for the international version only (maybe some other). Definitely needs a hardware mod to work for Verizon and T-mobile version

May be you should read what I have said, unless your version does not come with a USB port, then yes a mod is needed, but i'm sure even the verizon or t mobile version uses the USB port to charge and use for datat connection.

Sorry, could you provide a link? I believe you are referring to one that uses an oversized case that plugs in to the micro usb charging port and has the charging antenna built in. I have seen these but it is far from an elegant solution. Also, does it allow for a pass through so you can still use the usb port while installed?
Edit: is this it?: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Qi-charger-...S_Cell_Phone_PDA_Chargers&hash=item3a84f8ea94
If you have it, could you post a pic of your note 2 with it installed? Thanks

I see, thanks for the pic. Doesn't seem to require an oversized case at all. Need to unplug it if you want to use the usb port for anything else though. A nice alternative if people are uncomfortable with the hardware mod.

You can still use the oem battery cover, but if you have a international version, a dedicated receiver is available, so the USB version is not needed.
Anyone have a good recommendation for a car charger for the Nexus 6? I drive a lot, and need to be able to give it a quick charge.
I'm open to cheap and expensive options, I just need a good quick charger.
Well, I used the Nexus wireless charger for my N5 in my car. (Some cars support USB natively. For those that don't, any 2A Auto-to-USB -- or even better, Auto with corded microUSB -- adapter will work.) The magnets keep the N5 locked in place, so it doesn't bounce off, and there were no cables to fiddle with when placing the phone on (or taking it off) the charger. True, you had to get a bit creative if you wanted it mounted, but that usually wasn't too difficult. Personally, the N5 with charger fit perfectly in my center console, so mounting issues weren't a concern.
We'll have to see whether or not the N6 will support the magnetic mount for wireless chargers at all, and if it does, how well does it stay in place? If it works as well as the N5, then the Nexus wireless charger would be my top recommendation for a car charger.
As is posted in another thread, there are Quick Charge 2.0 certified accessories available, or will be soon.
Here is the link:

More to come, and as soon people realize its a good thing more companies will make Quick Charge 2.0 compatible chargers, power banks, car chargers etc.

Very interested in this. Ironically I could care less about quick charge at home... I always plug my phone in when I'm driving, and I work out of town so it's a lot. I wonder if using quick charge daily for am hour or so each way would hurt the phone... my phone already gets pretty hot driving with streaming music and navigation/waze.

From what I hear it could mess with the battery. I only charge to full and only when I really need power I will charge it for a short time.

Not for $30 With this battery, I can likely work all day and make it to the gym afterwards where I listen to music while working out and watch play movies/netflix while I finish up with cardio. My normal car charger will likely be fine for this.

That's actually the cheapest of the quick chargers I've found so far but yeah $30 is pushing it. I have found myself with a low charge on the OPO before where a quick charger would have been helpful. Instead I've had to use a NewTrent battery pack with it and the phone stuck in my man purse.
I use the Scosche USBC242M it's a dual port charger. Each port is 12 watts(2.4A). Its pretty fast, I believe the certified quick charge 2.0 ones are 15 watt ports.

The Ventex choice may be worth keeping an eye on to see if pricing drops (currently out of stock at $19.95 + ship).

Looks like it's a more flush fitment too, whereas the rest are much taller.
I've used some Pure-Gear cables before. They were not manufactured well at all. They were also mislabeled as to what type.
Remember everybody, if you use a 2A car charger, which now seem to be widely available, you also must use the proper cable or you won't get the full current.
This Mediabridge is my favorite charging cable:

I use a TechMatte one for all my devices. Pretty cool charger, does what it's supposed to in a timely manner.

Thanks everyone!!
Just got the incipio car charger. Used the promo code for some bucks off. Hope it works well.

For some reason when I tried to get the Incipio my order didn't go thru. I ended up getting the Powermod one for the same price after the Incipio coupon on Amazon.

Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
Here is link for a qualcomm certified quick charge car charger, they have a wall charger as well, but the phone comes with that so may not be as useful:

Update - Sorry didnt notice the poster right before me posted the link from Amazon for same charger lol, this is just from the manufacturer site that has it for same price I guess.

I can vouch for the incipio car charger, acts very similarly to the turbo charger and definitely charges faster than any car charger I've personally used. Pricey, but the tradeoff is worth it
...
....
I ordered the neobits charger that was linked earlier. I like the idea of the new turbo style charger in the car. Price is deceptive because the cheapest shipping option is $14...

It works and everything but it isn't as flush mount as the design would seem to indicate. It sticks out a little which kind of annoys me. It is more minimal than any other car quick charger I have seen though so I guess it's ok.
