Google Play Store Credit Expires 9/30/13 - Nexus 7 General

First this might be a nice reminder for anyone still having some credits left over, like me.
Second, I thought it would be nice to hear some recommendations for good apps/games that are a must have.

Is this just the $25 promotion for new Nexus 7's? Or does everyones credit expire, because I find that hard to believe.
Shame. I need to spend $10 quickly if this is true.

Thanks for the reminder. Used most of my $15 for rare/hard to get songs. $4.65 left to go for some more songs.

Darn I thought that was when the promo expired last year on September 30 2012, didn't know I had to use the credit within a # of days. Oh well got about $22 left lol.

Am hoping for a few sales today and tomorrow, with Android's 5th anniversary to burn my remaining credit.

Good thing I saw this, I still have $19 left.

Really?
Sorry, but where did you get this information from?
I don't think it would be smart of Google to offer credits to people for buying a device, then taking them away if you didn't finish spending them before a certain time. Plus I never received an email message from Google stating they'd be taking my credits away by a certain date.
As of today, Oct 4, 2013, I still have $16 on my account.

They have it in their Play Store help page.
Not sure why it haven expired yet though.

I'm sorry but where exactly is this offer? I haven't heard anything.

[link fixed]NEXUS 7 16 GB ONLY $234 SHIPPED!!! Act now before it is gone!!!

Sorry mods about the thread that could go in another thread. But people should see this deal before it is gone. After that feel free to merge it with any thread you feel it needs to go to.
OKAY EVERYONE! READ
Just got this deal too amazing to pass up!
Go to:
http://www.jr.com/order/basket.jsp?...Hash=0a2ace30df7d42028f38788bbc64e14d7ffee550
There will be a 16GB Nexus 7 in your cart with free shipping!
Don't forget to add the July4 promo code for $15 off!!!
Now the Tablet will cost you a total of $234 (unless you live in NY, the tax NY sorry)
Also, the free shipping uses UPS to ship to your USPS post office, THEN Usps delivers to your door. It happens all the time buying from amazon. Just sucks if your mailbox is too small. Then USPS will leave you a slip to go pick it up.
So the shipping may be slow, but you can upgrade to 2 day or 1 day for a much better shipping rate than google was offering!
I was going to pre-order from gamestop today, GLAD I WAITED!
OH! Also note: They will only ship to paypal confirmed addresses, so if your address isn't confirmed, you will have to pay with a credit card and manually type your Shipping info.
ALSO: If you use a MASTERCARD credit card (not debit) They will not charge you until it ships. So A) no balance as of yet, and B) when you are charged you know they shipped.
Do this now! Because they already took the Nexus 7 off their main page! Only a matter of time before they fix this link too!
Not sure when it is shipping, because I never saw the actual listing, but for this price, I could wait a week or two.
Happy hunting!
Oh and act now, because this deal could be gone in minutes or hours.

It's tempting. This would be cheaper than the 8GB model in the Google store. Gave OP a thanks even though I'm not the pre-ordering type. If discount is available from one vendor, it'll be available from another down the road. We appreciate tech toys, but they can only depreciate.
A bit skeptical about this given that the actual item is not currently listed on the site.
I pulled the trigger... worse case they cancel it, I've ordered from J&R before (my laptop) and didnt have any issues with them
ganna see if i can get another 5% out of it via shop discover on my CC

Well this is probably not going to drop lower than this until used/ refurbs come out.
Google is already losing money on these tablets so there isn't much leeway in price. The only reason it is cheap through this site is because the site always offers free shipping. And the coupon code is site wide, so it was a fluke it was useable for the tablet (also probably why they took the Nexus 7 off their site, so they can wait for the coupon deal to end.

As someone else said, worse that can happen is they cancel on you. And if you use a Mastercard credit card, they won't charge you until they ship. So if they cancel on you, your money was never tied up anyway. Sounds like a win to me and no losses in sight.

Not sure when it will ship. Because they took the listing down. But it should hopefully ship mid July (when Google ships) or end of July (when Gamestop ships them) Either way, I am willing to wait in order to save over $40.

You are right....
The Item ID does have a 16 at the end, but no proof. I'm going on the OP of the thread that provided this link they said the original description (when it was up) was for a 16gb.
So I'm sure it is a 16gb, but if they run out maybe they will send 8gb and say, well we never said.
Anyway, I don't think it is a problem. If they send me 8gb I will just return it

It's definetly the 16gb model. I Googled the model number the J&R listed for the Nexus, ASU NEXUS7/1B16, and found the same model number, and pre-sales online at B&H Photo, Frys and Adorama. All three online vendors listed the model number as 16gb. B&H's pre-sale price is $249.00 and the other two vendors are charging 99 cents more for their pre-sales.
I hope this puts some minds at ease.
lol @ $21 NY tax.

Possible way to get $50 refunded for 16 GB owners

Just as a heads up, there might be a way for some 16 GB owners to get their $50 dollars refunded to reflect the new price. I bought my 16 GB mid-September from Walmart and like many users was surprised to find that Google would drop the price by $50 dollars only a few weeks later. My N7 was purchased on a credit card (Chase Freedom) that apparently offers a 60 day price protection for up to $250 per claim. I wasn't sure that my credit card offered this until I gave them a call so it would not hurt to check the benefits that your credit card provides.
The claim process isn't too lengthy. Just need to fill out a form that they emailed me, provide a copy of the receipt as well as a copy of Walmart's website reflecting the new price. Kind of like a rebate I guess. Hopefully this can help some others out.
Yeah, I was peeved that I didn't grab my chase freedom. I went with Amex instead. They have a buyers remorse program but I'd still keep this device anyways if they gave me $50 back.

Yes. Money is tight for me right now and $50 is enough that I want it back. It has nothing to do with being cheap.
What dya reckon the chances of getting a price match from Argos?
I purchased it in store, still have the reciept and everything.

I am simply pointing out one of the perks that some credit cards offer their cardholders. Since I bought the N7 for $250 not long ago and now that the current price is $199, why not get the difference refunded? Only reason I do not have Walmart doing the price match is simply because I am beyond their 15 day return policy. Luckily there are credit cards out there that extend this price protection for you as part of their benefits.
I love the N7 and was content with the 16GB. I have no hard feelings towards Google for driving down the price since it is a competitive market. If there is a way for others to potentially benefit from the perks that their credit cards offer then it never hurts to share that information to those that are unaware.
In the big picture, I don't think $50 dollars is going to worry a big bank anyways. But if it allows someone to get another tank of gas or some groceries for the week, then I simply ask, why not?

I am not certain of the story policies in place for Argos. It never hurts to call the store you got it from and ask if they have a price match guarantee or some kind of similar program. I believe there are some US retail chains that allow you to price match even after purchasing for up to a certain time frame (usually 30 days). Best Buy is an example that I believe has this program but I'm not 100% certain as I haven't shopped there in forever.
If the store don't work out, why not give your credit card (assuming you bought it with a credit card) a call to see if they offer a similar benefit? As I mentioned earlier, I did not know that my credit card offered it until I called to see if they are able to match the new price.
I bought a 16GB model last Wednesday from Office Max. They have a 14 day return policy for electronics so I brought mine in yesterday and simply exchanged it for a new 32GB Nexus 7. No fuss, no muss.
Lol, that wasn't quite my point, and I should have elaborated. My point being you got $25 free credit so should only expect $25 back and when buying things you should expect the price to drop. We got a Samsung smart TV a couple months ago for £2500 and its now £2000. We can't just walk into the store and ask for the £500 we lost. Its just how things work.

If the store you bought the TV from (or credit card company) had a policy of refunding the difference if there is a price drop, and you were within that time period, suley you would have requested the £500 back?
Same principle here, they guy is just highlighting a policy that some people may not be aware of
It's not being cheap... it's managing your money. The reason you can do this is because the price dropped so quickly from release. If you can do it, go for it. $25 play store credit isn't the same as actual money. Sure, I could have $25 of apps.. but I haven't spent anything near that on the play store yet. But gas? oh yes...
I don't consider 5 months "so quickly" and if they bought it in the last month they should have known the 32gb was coming, the rumours where everywhere.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
So, since the 8GB model was discontinued, I should be able to get a full refund right? lol
But in all seriousness, I take it this might not apply to the 8GB model, since there's no actual price on it now? Maybe even less of a chance of it being possible if you bought it from Play Store?

I wasn't an early adopter. I didn't have mine since release. I had mine just about 30 days out from the release of the 32. Most stores are now smart and place it on 14 day return policy. If I had mine since release, I would of been in the similar position with your TV and wouldn't care. The money is gone, bye. My bill for the N7 is actually due November 4th, so I still haven't paid it with my own money yet, it stings a little more in those shoes.
Anyways, it's an offer the credit card provides. I looked at Discover and they do the same. It's their "purchase protection" to win over customers. It's there, no extra cost. Why not? I would use it in a heartbeat if I had the option. This has nothing to do with being cheap. Being cheap would be buying an $80 budget tablet from some no name brand hoping it will function just like the N7.

I saw the rumors but didn't start to really swirl until after the end of my 14 day return policy. It was the KFHD that got me into this mess, got one from amazon, didn't like it even after root but it wet my appetite to get a new toy
But in the end, it is what it is.
five months is very quickly. Consider that not everyone preordered the nexus 7. And the fact that supply was limited until around august. Plus certain countries didn't even have the device for a while after the US release. Five months is short. Really, Google was just stupid to think 8GB would be enough as a starting point. A 7in tablet that's portable without 3G is supposed to stream things from the cloud? Wat....

[Q] $125 Google Play Credit

If you haven't bought your One yet (like me) you might wanna read this.
I just realized that if I buy an HTC One at RadioShack (Sprint, AT&T has this too) you get $100 in Google Play credit. Plus, if you register your device before July 15th, you get $25 in credit from HTC..
Holy cow, that is $125 in Play credit. :highfive: :good:
So, what the heck am I gonna do with all that? I'm not complaining but only trying to encourage discussion. I guess the main point of this thread is, what would/will YOU do with that?
EDIT: Perhaps I'll buy this!!

I think you meant links or it didn't happen?
So, once again, here's the scenario:
Somebody goes to RadioShack, and buys an HTC One--AT&T or Sprint, there's no difference for this--and then they receive $100 Play credit from RadioShack. SPRINT LINK AT&T LINK
Unfortunately, the AT&T has to be done in store due to RadioShack's agreements with AT&T. The Sprint can be bought online I believe.
After that, the person goes home, and goes to this HTC site to register their device and receive $25 in Google Play credit.
They now have $125 in Google Play credit at their disposal. They might have to use it before the end of the year or something (at least for the HTC given credit if you look at their ToS for the deal), but hey that's still a pretty good deal if you ask me. Especially if it's on a new contract, you will receive more Play Credit than you paid for the device itself (of course, there's a million other fees though.)
Stepped up and got this deal yesterday. took me a little while to figure out how to root it, but its up and running now! Just backing up stuff on my note 2 right now

Do you know if this is true for the $100 that RadioShack gives you? I looked at the fine print and didn't see any deadline for that credit to expire, but maybe I missed something.

I think only the HTC credit expires, if you read the fine print on their page. RadioShack does not, unless we're both mistaken. So, spend your $25 from HTC first, and then add your RadioShack and you shouldn't have to worry about expiration.
Wish I saw that 100 $ play store credit deal sooner... Just ordered my sisters HTC one last Wednesday... At least I got the activation fee waived through a promo :/

Amazon live chat confirmed Nexus 6 preorder

He said it will start around 8:00-10:00am pacific time.
I was under the assumption tomorrow preorders were only for google play store. No??
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah same. He took a while to look into it then gave me that info. Don't take it as a fact.
That would make my day.
Certainly am not staying up all hours of the night to nab a pre-order what with work and all.
That Amazon's offering a pre-order doesn't surprise because (1) Amazon's Italy site is currently listing the N6 for pre-order and (2) they've offered the Nexus 9 for pre-order as well. The ultimate question is when they'll open it up. Could it be the case that they allow orders before Google? Some how I doubt it, but who knows.
Also, I just finished up a chat with Google Playstore. Very tight lipped. But the woman "suggested" I call Best Buy. I said that was the only retailer that would make sense because dialing 1-800-APPLE would probably not be as informative. She liked my joke and gave me a $10 playstore gift card. Now time to pick out some movies for the wait!
I just chatted with Amazon CS and they said they have no information on it.
Ahh I don't understand why we need to wait for Google employees to get into work for this a website to begin accepting orders. Turn on a rule or something. "If midnight allow orders."
Has anyone explained the logic here? (I'm sure it's only slightly more complicated than that)

Because "404 Error. Playstore will not load" then people scramble at midnight to go into work and fix the servers.
Valid. The rage levels would be all consuming.
Ya but some of us work all night and won't be up at noon to order. ?

This would be so awesome. I really want it from amazon to avoid the tax and shipping that add a ridiculous amount to the phone

Still cheaper than $649 + tax + shipping.
I have cheap tax where I live and this is how much it would cost for me from Play Store.
$649 + 45.43 tax (7%) + $13.99 shipping = $708.42
Although it could be argued that ordering from the Play Store has it's advantages.

yupp you are right. amazon has 30 days return period though, 16 days more than google to return in case people find it too big or by that time it is cheaper on ebay.

Not to mention Amazon returns are free, whereas you have to pay for return shipping to Google Play.

Not to be the one who says it, but if you have to finance a phone, you shouldn't be in this game.

Not everyone can afford a phone that's 600 plus outright

It all about cash flow I got about $2000 in my phone fund and have a few phones if I paid cash for every one I wouldn't to up grade as often as I do.
Not to be the one who says it, but that's sort of a **** thing to say. Not everybody has $700.00 to drop on a phone all at once. A lot of people are basically financing their phones when they go through a carrier anyways.

+1 Even if you did why would you not want to pay it off interest free for 18 or 24 months make better sense.

I gotta agree with this guy. I understand zero percent financing and all, but for someone to pay for the phone with PayPal credit is outrageous. Its like 27% interest.

BillMeLater turned into PayPal Credit. They still offer no interest for 6 month deals, but its not a blanket offer like BillMeLater was. There are inclusions, exclusions, and tons of fine print.
BTW, I overstated. The fine print for the APR reads:
"The Annual Percentage Rate is 19.99%"
(which is still outrageously high)

My last two phones I brought full price from T-Mobile. I brought a Samsung Note 3 and The phone I have now LG G3. I just didnt want to pay full price this time around.
I've ordered stuff on PayPal credit and I always get 6 months no interest no matter what. I pay it off way before that anyway so it's not a big deal.
So what if you finance it through Motorola if you are good with money you pay it off.
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk
Just use T-Mobile and finance.
G3
You can't finance through PayPal unless the seller accepts PayPal. I could be wrong but I don't think the Play Store does. Verizon doesn't or any of the other carriers. Your only shot is Motorola if and when they decide to. Unless you can pick up a new one on EBay or Swappa for a reasonable price. You know how that goes guys say they are new but there not + no warranty unless you get a carrier to honor it.
I didn't mean to sound like a jerk when I posted that response last night. If you have 0% interest for 12 or 18 months and you pay it off without getting penalized for late payments or whatever, it's a good deal. On the other hand, if you are planning to pay off the phone with a credit card that charges a ridiculous interest like 10 - 30%, I would agree that it's not a wise choice. In the end, it's really none of my business to tell anyone how to purchase a phone. Sometimes, if you want the latest and greatest phone, you'll do just about anything to get it.
