[Q] I lost my boot animation - Motorola Droid Bionic

I have the original bootanimation.zip in the correct directory, I even tried to install a few different animations with Rom Toolbox Pro, but my the screen after the red M logo stays blank until it loads to the main screen. I don't know what I did to remove my boot animation but any help to get it back would be appreciated. I'm running stock 4.1.2.

Did you check to make sure the permissions are correct on that zip file.

the partition is set to read only. I'm using AntTek Explorer.

I used root explorer and checked everything under permissions. any other suggestions?

I could still use some help with this issue, thanks.

Bootup Screen For Kyocera Zio M6000

First and foremost i want to thank esk02k and his friend for the images. All Credit goes to him for the images check out his post on xda called the thc weed leaf (i would post the link to his page but it wont let me says out side links are not allowed by new users but yet its an internal link). I didnt use all of them as there was only 37 images that i had to replace and i couldnt find the file that links to the boot up animation png files to add in the extra files so i used most of them and all i did was make it to the right size and converted them from jpg to png.
I am using the stock rom and my phone is rooted using universal androot version 1.6.2 beta5 (search for 1-click root for N1 to find this it will work on this phone) you have to install super user then you need root explorer found in the market. Now on to how to install this.
1) Install universal androot and the root explorer run universal androot to get your phone rooted you may chose soft root which only lets you temporary root till you reboot (dont worry it will not void your warrenty)
2) Download kyocera zio m6000.zip at the bottom of this post and extract it to a folder on your pc
3) Copy the folder to the root of your sd card
4) Open up root explorer and click on /data/FLEX/bootanimation
5) Copy Startup_Sound_M6000.ogg from the folder you copied to your sd card to the /data/FLEX/bootanimation folder overwriting the one in there
6) Next goto /data/FLEX/bootanimation/assets folder and copy all the png files from the folder you copied to your sd card to the assets folder over writing the ones in there
7) Exit out of root explorer and reboot your phone to see your new boot up screen and enjoy the first mod for this phone. (Note im not sure why the android screen dont show up no more when none of the files that was replaced was the android png files only the cricket png files are replaced)
Well there you have it the very first mod for this phone i hope you all like it as this is my first attempt at making a boot up screen animation im not sure how to make it animate more so please give constructive critisim do not bash it please and please tell esk02k thank you for all the hard work he did with the images all i made was the start up sound and resized the images and converted them to png to work on this phone so in all it only took me bout 7 hours his work was a ton harder and probably took him days maybe weeks. So major props to esk02k
**edit** Wow i started this by making the first mod for the phone and showed you all where to replace the stuff and got the ball rolling and not one thank you. Wow it shows me how much im appreiated here.
Everytime I try to copy the files, it says I do not have enough space. What do I need to get rid of?

Remove some unwanted apps or apps that came on the stock rom that are worthless to you i removed the demo games that the company put on it and that gave me enough free space you need 6.50 mega bytes free to use this i made it as small as i could with out making it look like crap. you can remove some of the apps from /data/app i would recomend to back up the files before u delete them in case u have to put them back.
I have tried to copy the new pngs to the assets folder, but every time. I do, the original files replace the new ones. The closest I got was when I rebooted and I saw the first png of the original cricket boot animation, then it skipped all but the very last one of the new png I attempted to install.
Can anybody help me?

Apparently, the same number of images as the original must be used?
I tried one of my own, using boot screen found elsewhere on XDA that had more images. Didn't work.
Going to play around w/ the images today, reduce the count to the same as the original and see if that's indeed the case.
Or maybe it was the size of the images. I dunno yet.
Doesn't do a thing to my Cricket Zio.

We need a good solid backup rom, any post?
If your phone is a brick check the other zip threads for the update and you'll be on your way to a working phone

Well, the 2.2 thread appears to refer to the windows downloader, with which I have two problems:
1) I don't run windows but linux, and
2) To do this, it appears I need to get into USB debug mode. I'm stuck in fastboot.
What I think I really need is the stock ROM from the Sanyo Zio. Does somebody here have this?
I can see if I can use adb to pull the 2.2 rom and if I have any luck I will let you know

I'm wondering if ReactOS is far enough along to run the updater. Will have to give it a try, liveCD.
No go. Booted the live CD, couldn't access any of the media devices to access the update tool.
Hmm
but listen, I can't get the phone into USB debug mode, so how can I run the updater? At the moment I'm stuck with fastboot. Normal boot is black screen, no response of any kind, no adb.
Turn the phone off, hold volume up down and power and your phone will bopt into modem download mode. Then update.

[Q] How to install Allshare .apk and .odex

After much google searching, and searching here on XDA, I'm at a loss. I have the Allshare.apk and .odex, however I have had no luck installing them. I've tried various suggesions, including pushing them from adb shell, and nothing seems to work.
I would love to continue using custom roms, but not having Allshare is a big reason for me to just use rooted stock. The rom I'm trying to install it on is Cognition Beta (Froyo).
Titanium Backup also doesn't work for this. It tells me that it backed up Allshare, but when I try to install it, the restore button doesn't even show up.
Also, a quick question for Rom Manager. With the rom backup feature, can you only restore a backup for the rom you are using? (i.e if you want to restore a backup for another rom, you have to flash the rom first, then restore?)
Although posted in the wrong forum... I'd also like an answer to this. Running CDE and would really like to have AllShare to stream movies off my media server.

Not sure why this would be the wrong forum. I'm using a Captivate, and trying to install Allshare on a Captivate rom.
use root explorer and add them to System/app and paste both files there.
reboot your device, and voila

Still at square one. Altho the .apk and .odex are now in system/apps, it didn't affect anything. Also, looked up root explorer, and how to use it, then downloaded it. It won't remount my main file system as read only...so it's permanently in r/w now.
Also tried flashing to killer23d's rom, to use titanium backup on the allshare he has in his rom, still wouldn't work.
So....clueless at this point.

At one point, I had this same problem, and the only solution there is, is to reflash the rom. It's a PITA, I know. And don't worry about what your filesystem is mounted as in Root Explorer. After every reboot it reverts to read only again.

Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be my case. Even after reflashing Cognition, my file system is still R/W. Didn't even have to hit the white button on root explorer to paste files into system/app.
Also, adding dlna.apk and dlna.odex into system/app still isn't giving me Allshare.
Edit: Well, I've found a better solution. I'm gonna go with Killer23d's rom...looks alot more like stock Froyo, is based on the I9000, has Allshare, AND Mobile AP. Both features that I wanted.
Thanks for trying guys. If anyone does come up with a solution tho, please feel free to use this thread, as searching for allshare.apk on google results in this thread being either the 2nd or 3rd search result (can't remember).
Works for me.
I just put AllShare back in, using the attached file, and it's working fine.
I'm running Cognition 2.2 Beta 9.1.3 and put the file into "system\app" using Root Explorer.
I also changed the permissions of the file and selected just the following:
USER = READ + WRITE
GROUP = READ
OTHERS = READ
Remove any other checked permissions.
In case you don't know how to get into the permissions, just long-press the file, from within Root Explorer, and choose "Permissions" from the list that pops up.
Don't forget to reboot right after.
Your issue is most likely because you are trying to reintegrate an odex'ed AllShare while you are using a de-odex'ed ROM. Ozone777's file looks to be about the correct size for a de-odex'ed AllShare. Just move it into the /system/app folder with root explorer as mentioned above and you should be good to go.
I used terminal to drop the APK attached in the previous post into /system/app and it works beautifully. CogYo 2.2.9

Having problems enableing other keyboards besides Ginger keyboard

Hi there,
Any suggestions on how to enable slideit keyboard? Everytime I go into settings and push "keyboard" it goes straight back to home screen.... any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you

Did you copy the .apk into apps and install it? Try uninstalling and reinstalling it afterward, then selecting it from NookTools.
U have to use nookcolor tools
Nook Color via Xda App
I had a similar problem and found out that the keyboard apk file has to be in the system/apps folder but usually gets installed into data/apps.
If that's the problem, you can move it with adb or buy Root Explorer which makes it much easier.
Mobileread forum for the color nook (developer's corner) has a thread entitled
"How to get Gingerbread keyboard?"
I can't post the link directly because I'm new to this forum.
Thanks guys, I'll try that!

I have gotten all the custom keyboards I tried, working perfectly. Presently using SwiftKey. You just need to move the apk file to system/apps, set the permissions similar to other apks in the folder and then install that apk from there. After that you need to reboot, otherwise the keyboard won't show up on Nook Color Tools. After booting, open NC Tools and change the keyboard.

That's strange, as I've got the same setup as you (though I rooted with Monster Rootpack) and I was able to do exactly what you're trying to just yesterday.
Try fixing permissions via Clockwork, perhaps?
Hi. I am having an issue with the wifi after trying to use root exp. to paste in a wpa_applicant file. The R/W toggled, and worked, and i was able to set permission changes, but it went wrong and i cannot get wifi to come back on. I've booted again several times, plus i've tried reversing it, get the old file named back to original name, but that isn't doing anything to help. Does Clockwork help if you've screwed something up with the root exploring? Anyone have an example of an attempt at fixing something in the system/bin structure?
thanks much
EDIT: this has been solved. I put the fix outside if the folder and then also renamed the wpa supp folder and this worked.

Removing Samsung boot animation binary from Nexus 6, need assistance.

I'm sure this is the right spot since it has to do with troubleshooting. Okay here goes, so I've looked in a lot of places in the nexus 6 and Samsung sections and cannot find any info on how to remove the binary for Samsung devices (I know, let me explain first) to be able to boot animation screens.... So, let me back up a bit and explain why I'm an idiot. I've been using rom installer to install boot screen animations for my rooted nexus 6 with 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Well, I noticed that some were the incorrect size for my phone when I installed them. I had noticed an option in the app under room extras to install binary to allow boot screen animations (boot animation fixer). I was in such a hurry that I didn't notice that right above it said Samsung. I foolishly installed it, it rebooted and now the boy animation is a plain Jane google writing in white with no animation. Can't remove it or revert to backup because all my backups got corrupted somehow. So now I thought if I can reverse this somehow by deleting the binary, or script, or whatever, it will fix it. I did research on the app and can't find out where it installs the binary to. I came on here and looked in the Samsung section as well as the nexus 6 section, which led me to ask for help. I've looked where the boot animations are stored on the system and there's nothing there and I'm worried if I dig anywhere else blindly I'll have to wipe and install 6.0.1 and root all over again, using up a LOT of my data to reinstall a LOT of apps that I have. I have like 239 apps so I would like to make that a last resort. The phone boots fine, I just don't like the bland boot animation. I want to show off the different animations that I use. I would appreciate the direction anyone could lead me in to solve this goof up that is my fault, but hey, I'm learning a lesson here.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that I did find the XDA forum on the binary samsungani related to this (/system/bin/samsungani) and the boot animation binary (/system/bin/bootanimation) and deleted them. However, this did not change a thing.
I mean, as long as you're able to boot up, why not just install Titanium Backup and backup the apps. Reinstall your rom and just restore the apps, I would say that would be an easier fix. That way you won't be using any data.
The problem is, as you yourself found it, the bootanimation.zip is missing. Copy one in system/media, give 644 as permissions (rw-r--r--). And there you are.
