[Q] Problem with /cache in recovery - One (M7) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there,
Just wanted to install a custom recovery image for the first time on this device and make a nandroid backup. Well, not everything went as expected
here's what I've done:
-unlocked the bootloader via htcdev.com [worked]
-fastboot erase cache [worked]
-installed TWRP [worked]
in TWRP I wanted to create a Backup and selected everything. However it gave me an error message that /cache couldn't be mounted (or something like that, can't remember exactly, but read on). So I tried it with CWM (again, first I erased cache with fastboot, then installed CWM) Well, these are the messages I get when I try to make a backup:
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
then it backs up boot img, recovery, system and data, which works flawlessly. Then, the error messages continue:
No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage. [seems logical, as I don't have an external sdcard]
Backing up cache...
Can't mount /cache!
Is it possible that it can't mount /cache as I erased it via fastboot? Or what could've caused the issue, and how do I resolve it? Thanks in advance.

Doesn't matter, just ignore it
EDIT: To expand on the above, if you've not booted the phone up since flashing the recovery there is no cache to backup

Didn't think the soultion was that simple haha, but thanks

Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app

For reference, this bit:
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
Seems to be present in both CWM or TWRP (never used TWRP personally). It's never affected the backups I've made in the past

stuck during flashing

Hi
prior to flashing nova v8, when i reached clockworkmod recovery, this sentences appeared
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
i have already wiped factory data and wiped cache before proceeding to flash
then when i was doing the flash to nova v8, the bar seems to be stuck at about 75% for more than half an hour.
Can anyone please help me?
Thanks in advance!
Are you sure that Nova8.zip is not corrupt? Do you check it already before flashing?

Happened to me many times when I was flashing v8. Just copy the zip file again in the SD, then try again. If it happens again, try re-copying the file in the SD again then flash. If it still fails download v8 again.

Just do another factory reset and everything should be back to normal. And if you experience force closes after flashing just reboot again.
thanks for replying!
i have already reset my phone using LG recovery, reboot and it doesn't worked at all.
then when i tried everything again, CWM states that i have flashed successfully & i rebooted the phone. However it got stuck at the LG logo for an hour+. i redo everything and it is still the same ):
edit* - can anyone please help me with my Internal Phone Storage(under SD card & phone storage settings)? because it shows 0.00B even when it is freshly factory resetted.
and also why does my clockworkmod(v5.0.0.1) shows these sentence?
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
wrong entry

thanks it worked for me.
the 0mb happens when you don't do a factory reset before flashing nova
stock using ext3, nova using ext4, so it won't read any ext3 mem

i guess the last resort for you is to go back on stock thru nvflasher..
here is the link to nvflash, go back to stock
Code:

Looks like an old version of CWM on an ext4 rom. What version of CWM are you using?
Sent from my Optimus 2X using xda premium
I have the same problem, installed the latest cm_p990_full204.zip and then instaled a neoblaze kernel...worked fine until i restarted the phone!it was stuck at the second lg screen...got the battery out and now it get's into cwm and gives the same errors!
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/command
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E:Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E:Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
I'm using Clockworkmod Recovery v5.0.2.0
Please help me!
I don't think it would be this simple but anyways, did you try going to mounts and storage in CWM and mounting /cache?
I did,it says Error mounting /cache!
Ohh nevermind
Did you try this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1229407
If this didn't help either then I guess you will have to use nvflash to get back to stock.

[Q] (Q) E: cant mount /cache/recovery/command etc

I tried to flash new rom today and for somereason after i tried to reboot i booted to cmw and i got these errors:
E:
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/command
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/log
E: cant open /cache/recovery/log
E: cant mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: cant open /cache/recovery/last_log
And i cant get access to my internal sd card. It wont clear cache or do factory reset and cant mound /data,/emmc and /data. So i can't use my phone. I've tried few "fixes" from several posts/forums. I've smartflash but it cant regonize my phone, so if someone could help me to fix this problem that would be nice.
EDIT: Problem solved
Hey,
how did you fix the problem? I have the same exact problem.
could you plz tell me how you fixed it.
try to reboot.
If it's not working and you need sdcard, you could take off the sdcard ( it's possible because it's not under battery ) and return it. Normally you could mount sdcard.
It works for me.

Close the terminal window, unplug your phone, and try again with a new terminal window. If that doesn't work restart your computer and start over.

[Help] I'm having /cache mounting errors; how can it be fixed (no Windows)?

Hello!
I was going to clear the cache partition (ROM was acting strange) one night (night before New Year's 2017 of all the times) when these errors came up:
Code:
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_log
E: Can't mount /cache/recovery/last_install
E: Can't open /cache/recovery/last_install
Attempting to mount /cache fails with this error:
Code:
E: Error mounting cache!
I did find a thread showing this exact phenomenon: https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/android-one-general/bricked-phone-cache-img-canvas-a1-t3307290
However, it's not helping me too much since the main solution there is using SP Flash Tool; it is (to my knowledge) a Windows-only tool, but I don't have a Windows install on any of my computers (all Linux units). Are there any alternate methods to resolving this issue?
EDIT: Originally intended to be a Q&A thread, but I forgot to check the box for it;oh well!
Same problem, not able to flash any ROM, clear any partition, or reboot.
As for SP flash tool, it hard bricked my friend's phone ( wiped everything but didn't download...
Searched many threads for this , but no solution..
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A backup might be able to solve the issue. That won't work for me though since I had previously deleted mine due to a prior SD card failure.
