install Elixir 2, open it, select the first icon 'information', scroll down, simply press on 'Audio' and the third option will be 'turn haptic feedback off'
It will disable vibration as you (and I) wanted...although when modifying the home screen/adding or removing widgets it will keep the vibration...
hope this helps

CM9 G Button remap

hi, I open this thread to show you how to remap the G button, on the FOP rom it is assigned as a comma so it's totally useless, but all you have to do is using root explorer go to:
system\usr\keylayout
and modify the files "generic.kl" and "TWL4030_Keypad.kl" and search for "key 95".
On the "generic.kl" it will say something like insert comma, change that to one of this options:
APP_SWITCH it will make the g button open the recent apps
CAMERA well it's obvious it will open the camera
and on the "TWL4030_Keypad.kl" it will say "POWER WAKE_DROPPED", just erase that and type one of the options I said (you MUST assign the same option to BOTH files)
Hope it would be usefull ^^ I recomend using the button for the recent apps, since the camera can be accessed from the lockscreen and the camera isnt working right now
If you need to, I can make a CWM flashable zip to modify those 2 files, I didn't did that because this is way too easy to do manually...
Remember to mount R/w so you can edit the files
After doing that just reboot
You should mount r/w not r/o

A flashable file would be great!
You forgot reboot...neway thanks m8..it worked just fine :highfive:

I saw this one when trying to do this, and it is really weird the tutorial so I decided to do this one, also it only says how to use as camera and lock button... could you consider adding this to the FOP rom?

If you guys find it useful we can add that feature, but it is easy to add this feature, so if you guys want, you guys can add by yourself.

Yep, tecnically it works on all roms, but I can't say exactly since Idont know which file you have to modify on cm7

On cm7, you have to edit /system/usr/keylayout/qwerty.kl - delete key 212 line and add key 95 POWER WAKE_DROPPED or the line about camera - save and reboot

My Power button is dead and i cannot turn on the phone manually. Ineed to use usb cable, enter the battery charging state and need to push the button frequently(hopefully it detect) till it reboot. Then i try to remap the power button to G button. still cannot on even at battery charging state... This phone is screwed.. wonder if anyone want to buy my phone.. haha..
My power button is not in the best condition too. First I remaped G button (key 95 POWER WAKE_DROPPED) and then I use SoftPower app to wake it because it even has sometimes problems to wake up with the remaped G button and I'm fine. OK that doesn't help when it's completly switched off but then it seems to work rather good and I nearly never switch it off anyway. I use AnReboot for some time, it is fast for reboot and good for getting in recovery.

Getting to the recovery is not the problem as i can use the adb command. The worst part is when i want to call someone urgently and the phone cannot wake the screen. So softpower app can help in these kind of situation? As when the phone is completely dead, there nothing we can do to turn it on as some people said that the power button is hardwire.
Yes SoftPower wakes my phone up all the time without any problem. I haven't even activatet the adminstrator, because it is only needed for turning the screen off and I use G button for that. (Need the search button for something else anyway.)
BTW if you remap the G button it even shows the power menu like you get it for long pressing power button (at least with some ROMs).
Thanks man, i will try that software. I just open this phone and found out that the usb port and the power button is integrated with each other. So, it's kinda hard to repair it.
Thanks.... I modify G Button as Camera and its working awesome on CM10..

Please
And if I want both answering and ending a call with G button, how can I add that to the file?
Maybe for wake up and turn off the device too? I guess it's applicable for multiple actions, isn't it?

I tested it.I modify G button as CALL WAKE_DROPPED
With this I can receive the call but can't end call with G Button.
And also
Device wakes but can't turn off.

[Q] When I'm in SMS app it just switch to homescreen

When I'm in SMS app and write massage it just switches to home screen and even sometime does not save what I have written.
Can someone help me with this problem. I'm using new JB, stock keyboard, luncher and SMS app, update that was UL last week and I do not know if it was any different before because I did not use phone on ICS.
Thank you, Denis

I got the same thing as you did. Turned out my freaking thumb was just too big that it accidentally pressed the home capacitive button while typing messages. I use SwiftKey and enlarge the keyboard layout and things are going just great though sometimes I still accidentally hit the home button key
Edit: try enabling touch feedback so you'll realize the second you hit the home button by accident

Menu button (do you miss it)

Just found out a little tip which many of you might already know. If you are missing the menu button, especially for outdated apps like the xda app, you can still access it. The note 4 replaced the menu button with recent apps button, but if you long press the recent apps button you will get to the menu function.
That is all. Have a good day.

Thanks for that. I was using a friends S5 last night and that was driving me mad. My note 4 is at home waiting for me to open the package
If they completely removed it, then yes but holding task switcher for a couple of more seconds then it doesn't bother me. What bothers me is that I have to hold the back button every time to access Multi window bar as app switcher only has opened apps.

You are welcome. It would have been a nightmare had it gone forever. Not all applications have that on screen menu button.
Brilliant, I missed that button... nice to know it's still there
Need a way to reverse the functionality from long and short press
Nope don't miss it. I don't even use the long press.

Its not about missing it just because you prefer to press the physical button. There are many apps which don't have the soft menu button. For example, go to Google Now and try to change the settings, but don't long press. Good luck with that.

I just did. Took less than 2 seconds. Then again, 6 of my past 7 phones all had on screen nav buttons, which I prefer

There is. There is no way Google didn't implement soft menu button when they themselves are pushing on screen nav bar and soft menu buttons. Open Google now and it's bottom right corner. Might need to scroll all the way down. That might be the only annoying thing about it but it's there and very easy to access.

Oh I see, thanks. I assumed it would be on the top right corner. However, there does remain other apps that don't have it at all. For example the XDA app.

I agree with what your saying. But you've picked 2 really bad examples. You can get to menu without menu button in xda!
I am used to Android tablets which don't have the menu button anyway, so I don't miss it on the phone.

Open up the left panel and whilst its open. The far right button changes to a settings cog.
People should have read the manual by now...

how do you access "menu" in apps now?

on my note 7 you'd long press recent apps, and it would bring up menu, how do you access the menu button now? I came across an app today that didn't have an onscreen software menu button and couldn't figure out where Samsung buried the menu button this time.
thanks!
I only have one app that I use that is like that, on my Note 5 long pressing the back button brought up the menu. I use the same version app on my Note 8 but on the Note 8 to the right of the back button 3 dots appear to bring up the menu. I tried the long pressing the back button anyway but it doesn't do anything. That's the only app that I use where I have ever seen the 3 dots appear to the right of the back button, so far anyway.
really so it just appeared for you in that app on its own?
interesting, it isn't in my app. surely there's a way to toggle menu tho right? Samsung didn't completely remove it did they?
Yeah, I didn't do anything, it just appears on it own. Screenshot attached showing the 3 dots & the menu that it brings up.
There is another way but it's kind of annoying. Go to settings>accessibility>dexterity & interaction, then enable assistant menu. It'll put a round button on the screen, opening that & holding down the back button will bring up the hidden menu. That's the annoying part but at least you can move the button around to anywhere on the screen.
That's the weird part, long pressing the back button in that assistant menu will bring up the hidden menu just like it did for my Note 5 but long pressing the actual back button on my Note 8 doesn't do anything.
WOW, that assistant menu trick actually worked... dude that's genius, thanks! I only needed the menu for a second to adjust an important setting, can't thank you enough!

No problem. Glad it worked out for you! That's actually how I had to do it on my Note 5. There was some kind of glitch, even though the back button brought up the menu, as soon as I released the back button the menu would disappear sometimes. Using the assistant menu was the only other way I could do it.
