RIM PlayBook Will Support Android Apps

As we tweeted earlier today: Although we have heard this rumor before, we are actually surprised (in a good way) that RIM has confirmed that its upcoming PlayBook will support Android Apps. This is a both a win and a loss for RIM. Its a win because consumers can access the 200,000+ Android apps. The PlayBook will be a strong challenger to Motorola's Xoom for the non-iPad tablet crown. On the other hand, it is a loss because RIM may feel that its own apps (25,000+ Blackberry Java) are not strong enough to compete with Android or Apple's iOS AppStore.
"RIM will launch two optional "app players" that provide an application run-time environment for BlackBerry Java(R) apps and Android v2.3 apps. These new app players will allow users to download BlackBerry Java apps and Android apps from BlackBerry App World and run them on their BlackBerry PlayBook."
Consumers will download the app players from BlackBerry App World which will then be placed in a secure "sandbox" where the BlackBerry Java or Android apps can be run.
The only downside is that the new app players will not be available until this summer. However, this feature makes the PlayBook more attractive.

I'll just leave this here.
So an unofficial version of Android Player was leaked today. Here's a video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=jIAp8VnC49E
It's running 2.3.3...
Here's my question: will it be possible to hack it/root it/whatever and install a custom ROM and be able to use full QNX and full Android in the Android Player?

[Q] random thoughts

has anybody ever considered trying to put the apple app store for iphones and ipads onto an android device such as phones or tablets? or is this even possible just a random thought.
Don't know if it's true but I heard a rumor that Android OS was installed on an iPhone device...
I have heard of maybe an android theme for iOS, but I'm sure it would be very complicated to have apple apps designed to run on apple devices on android devices. Especially since one would have to have the most high end device to run some of the quality apps available to iphone 4 users and of course ipad. It would be nice though.

Netflix blocking chromecast for devices older than 4.0 with screen of hate

In its latest anti-consumer move Netflix has deemed that only those with Android devices greater than version 4.0 should be allowed to cast videos to chromecast.
While my streaming streaming service worked fine last night, I went to watch some netflix this morning on my chromecast and was met with only the screen of hate:
Please update the Netflix application on our mobile device to continue casting Netflix to this TV.
Netflix works with Android 4.0 and later, iOS 6.0 and later, and the latest version of Chrome.

I have no intention of replacing my android device at the minute, and will probably just end up using an android RDP app to start the streaming from a pc, but maybe I will give my $8 a month to Cruntchyroll or Hulu+ or someone who still wants to provide service to my devices.
so, here is my plea to netflix from the internet:
dear reed hastings,
I can haz chromecast streamings back plz?
kthanks
I like backwards compatibility, but are you really laden with devices that have 4.0 on them still? No access to a desktop so you can install Chrome on it?
I prefer Swedish Netflix...
Sorry, but Android 4.0 its already more then 3 years old, and it has been replaced with versions 4.1, 4.2, 4.3, 4.4 and 5.0. I think, that they hold backward compatibility for good amount of time. Google himself are desperately trying to replace 2.x versions of Android, which is a 4 years old system, so I don't see anything wrong on compatibility with just 4.0+ system.

I agree but I also understand the frustration of anyone still stuck on Gingerbread.
What is likely the case here is Netflix app is now using google code to do ccasting where before it may have been built into the app itself.
While it sucks to have to go buy a new device just to get Netflix support it really is time for the OP to look at upgrading.

what other devices are like hp touchpad ie say Galaxy or google tablets ?

Are there any devices that are similar to touchpad? like is google tablet compatible with it ? I see other tablets are getting Android 7. was wondering if I could use one of there Installations?

How Does Semi-Untethered Jailbreak Work?
Electra jailbreak is a semi-untethered jailbreak, which means that when your device restarts, the jailbreak will be disabled. You cannot use any installed jailbreak tweaks and Cydia will crash when launched. To re-jailbreak, simply open the Electra jailbreak app and perform Step 4 again to jailbreak again. Your device will then go back to the jailbroken state.
How to install Tweaks and Jailbreaks app with Electra Jailbreak Download?
To start using Electra Jailbreak, you might have to install the files manually from the .deb and .theme folder downloaded on your computer. It will also take some time for developers to update their tweaks compatible with iOS version 11.
When Does the Electra Jailbreak App Expire & How Does Renew It?
If you are installing the Electra app with your regular Apple ID, it will expire after 7 days. So you have to re-install it via Cydia Impactor to extend it for another 7 days. The steps are the same as outlined above. Also note that you need the Electra Jailbreak app only when you want to re-jailbreak your device after rebooting your iOS device, so even if it expires, the jailbreak will remain as is.
We will publish the post on iOS 11.4.1 compatible jailbreak tweaks as soon as possible. Until then we would recommend proceeding with caution while installing jailbreak tweaks.
