Is it just me, or you just as sick of the iPhone hoopla . Really, come on these idiots are lining up for the same crap, yet again... It's kinda sad really.... The Android community should really reach out to try n free these people from the constraints their suffering. We should try n make n effort to help these lost souls in their devious ways.... I'm not going to lie, the iPhone is extremely well built, so I wouldn't call it crap. Is it essentially the same thing as the last model? Yes, but it's still a heck of a well engineered electronic device. Apple might not always be the first to do something, but when they're not the first, it usually works better than the ones that were the first.
ios7 is ruining peoples' lives, apple is dead

I think the iPhone is well built too and the new one is slick. Been hearing good things about the 64-bit dual core. Yeah, only a dual but they are saying it blazes.
Software on the other hand. Wow, take a huge chunk of features from android, screw it up and make it look like a 5year old ate too much Neapolitan ice cream and threw it back up... And you've got iOS7.

iOS market share is shrinking and Android, Windows and BB are growing. Apple will always be about hype and branding. A plastic iPhone and a gimmick fingerprint scanner won't save iOS. That being said.....

I'd say iPhone is better for people who use it phones for basic things. Like surfing, camera shooting, messaging, etc. It's also very sexy.
For every thing else, there's android.
I like how iOS7 looks. I turned off animations on my one because they were too slow. And then I tried 7 on my iPad 2. I almost threw up. Why the hell are the animations so slow?

Could it? I know iOS7 completely lagified all devices that aren't current. Maybe the animations ARE the cause of the lag?

my fiancé's 4s feels slower to me. I'm not sure if it's actually slower or the animations are just slow. I generally like the OS though as it fixes a good chunk of my iOS complaints (improved multitasking, quick toggles, boringness).
I'm not an apple fan. Would never buy an iPhone but the way ios7 functions is a huge improvement over previous versions. Very smooth and fluent. I've been activating these phones all day and am very impressed. The only thing that annoys me is the theme. It's slick and all but extremely girly. A lot of business employees and business owners depend on the iPhone and are too involved to change. Apple needs theme options besides invert. one or the business people, casual people and the current for everyone else(teenage girls, moms, and flamboyant men).

I don't really have an opinion on iPhones 'cause I've never own one, but here's something funny:
Here, in Belgium, Europe, we almost never use any contracts for our phones, only for SimCards, as it's illegal to simlock devices. So we usually pay full prices for phones. And I must say, I REALLY don't see many iPhones, but we have lots of S3 and S4 for example. It's the same for computers. I don't know anyone who has a mac, I once saw one in the library, and a friend has one at his job for video editing. But that's all.
iPads are more common though. But Samsung has also a big tablet market share.
I think that's kinda funny, Android is almost everywhere around here

Here's how I see it.
Jailbreak iPhone to be able to install 3rd party apps.
VS
Toggle a setting on a stock Android phone to install non market apps.
Win Android.
Jailbreak iPhone to add features and themes
VS
Root Android phone and flash a custom ROM to add features, themes, custom Launchers etc.
I still have to give the win to Android.
I really don't see what the point of this thread was if the OP wasn't trying to stir up a ruckus since it's all a matter of opinion anyway. Use whatever works best for you.
OF COURSE the ability to side load apps and change the icons on your "appdrawer" gives you more freedom than:
Custom roms
Custom Kernels
Overclocking/Underclocking your CPU
Ability to edit system files
100% control over your phone, etc etc
Yeah you are....right...

Thinks in Cydia are not really mind blowing. You have a bunch of themes and emulators and stuff. Android still has more customization.
Cydia has a couple of nice apps and tweaks, but it's not close to Android's tweaking capabilities. I used to tweak my iPhone 3GS back in the days and i had a lot of fun, but you'll hit a wall after some time, and there's not that much more to do.
- File Manager - Check
- Themes - Check
- Widgets - Check
- LS replacement - Check
- Notifications tweaks/addons - Check
- Other minor tweaks - Check
But after i was finished installing and tweaking stuff there wasn't that much to do. The thing Android has that iOS doesn't have; is custom ROM's. If i'm sick and tired of TouchWiz, i'll flash CyanogenMod. If i'm bored with CM i'll jump to MIUI etc. There are a lot of options in the Android world, and iOS doesn't offer that kind of options. Still, it's nice that iOS users has Cydia, but i left that ship a "long" time ago - and i really don't miss it. I need mah ROM's damnit!

Yeah, this doesn't make much sense, especially the customization bit. CM and others have theme chooser, MIUI has the Themes App and Toolbox, and even stock Roms have multiple launchers that allow quick changes of icons and other bits. We won't even discuss having amazing widgets for free that cost anywhere from $3-10 on Cydia and don't have the same level of functionality.
Let me know when you're able to toggle any settings you want from your lockscreen and homescreen. Also, hit me up when changing notifications is as simple as long-pressing music and sound files.
Jailbroken devices certainly have more ability than factory counterparts but are still behind even stock Android phones in so many ways, let alone a rooted or Rommed handset.

Thought you guys might be interested in this, it's pretty funny because that is actually how the iPhone 5 screen looks but it's hard to believe they haven't patented it already. Here's the story:
Chinese phone maker Goophone gets full marks for cheek. The day Apple’s iPhone 5 launch was finally announced, Goophone promised to have the phone banned in China… because it has already patented Apple’s design there.
Apple has suffered serious trademark and patent issues in China in the past, but the Goophone claim is causing merriment amongst Mac watchers. The Goophone i5 does indeed look much like the leaked iPhone 5. The move has been described by CultofMac as “wonderfully brazen” – but any attempt to enforce a Chinese patent would surely expose where Goophone got the design in the first place… wouldn’t it?
The Goophone i5, which first surfaced in August, looks superficially like an iPhone, but runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. Like the expected iPhone 5, it has a 4-inch screen, a smaller dock connector and larger speakers, and external speaker grills, whilst the headphone socket has moved to the bottom of the phone.
Inside, it is thought to have an Nvidia Tegra 3 quad-core 1.4Ghz CPU and 1GB RAM.
The i5 isn’t yet on sale in China, however, and is expected in the shops somewhat after the iPhone 5 launch.
Goophone’s site features the words “iPhone 5″ prominently in Latin script but its claims to the design seem very weak, especially given the fact that Apple has patents on the shape and style of iPhones going back some years, which have recently been upheld against Samsung in a US court.
GizChina has a video of the device:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdfJCDdQuzE&feature=player_embedded
Apple has only recently settled a claim over the iPad trademark in China, paying $60 million to Proview, the owner of the term “iPad” there, when Proview threatened to ban any sales of iPads in China.
Meanwhile, the inventiveness of Chinese counterfeiters was shown last year, when they were found to have copied three entire Apple Stores.

Well, the Moto RAZR and Galaxy SIII aren't worth $699 new in box either Freaking old as dirt Android devices are still ridiculously expensive and most of the time can only be bought from the carrier if you want them from a retail space. Sony is about the only company that offers new phones at decent prices. Google releases their Nexus devices at fair retail as well, but their made by different manufacturers so that's a slightly different horse.
Let's just not act like Apple is the only one who beats their customers in the head.
It's been 8 days since I got my N4, and I've spent a full week of sixth form college using it. (Like the last two years of high school for you non-Brits.) In my case, it's been fantastic. I love it.
Hell, it even helped me get a girls number. I just met her, was talking to her for a bit, whipped out my N4 to check the time and she grabbed it off me in awe and added her number to my contacts
One of the main things on my mind was how tough the gorilla glass actually was. And I can say, it is in perfect condition. No scratches or marks whatsoever, but I have been very careful with it.
In Cambridge I get a decent HSPA signal and generally fast speeds. No HSPA+ on giffgaff though I listen to music on the bus and the audio quality is great, maybe on par with an iPod/iPhone. (Yes, you can tell the difference with a cheap Android phone and an iDevice.) The speaker is mediocre though, and the volume is severely reduced when placed on a flat surface.
The screen is wonderful, I haven't noticed any yellow tint or washed out colours like some people say. The way the glass curves off to the edge is magnificent, and really makes a significant difference in interacting with the phone.
On the topic of the screen, the glass itself feels very premium. It's smooth to the touch and is the most oleophobic screen I've used. The phone feels like it should be priced much higher.
The reflective back is very tasteful, it never looks tacky. A lot of the time it's just black and looks great. The camera is better than expected, it produced good photos.
Performance is good, I've had very few slow downs and games play at a high FPS. Chrome being the stock browser doesn't bother me, it holds up very well when browsing. The only difference you'll notice will be in benchmarks. There isn't really much to say about 4.2, I'm sure you're all aware of it's features. My only gripe is that the quick settings aren't toggles, they're just shortcuts.
Battery life is well.. meh. It's enough to hold up my day of moderate use (taken off charge at 6:30AM, get home about 5:15PM), but it's normally less than 15% by then. I would've liked something that could hold up for a bit longer.
I have also found that WiFi signal seems to be worse than previous devices I've owned, but I'm just looking for something to complain about now.
Overall, it's great. In my opinion, taking into the fact that it's a Nexus device, it's the best phone on the market. My friends seem to like it too, no one I've talked to so far knew what it was, but they're definitely interested in it. One of my buddies insist that I give it to him for his birthday :highfive:

So, if the rollout is due end of this year - must mean everyone else, right?

Good day governor, I await my Nexus 4 on giffgaff with some tea and biscuits.
Waiting for my nexus to come in as well in Cambridge, ON Canada. I always thought canada was behind on mobile tech. (we have had DC-HSPA for a couple years now LTE) but its good to know that we have caught up for the time being.

Bahaha you xda peeps crack me up! Don't worry I get plenty :good: She is a damn sexy phone though
Picked up my N4 today and have been getting to grips with it, initial impressions are. It's fast though have had slow down. Gets very hot during anything using GPS or when playing games. Camera is average and when using the flash images are washed out. It's a bit early to say much about the battery life but after 1hr38mins, its down to 73%. build quality seems good. I thought it would be a bigger leap up from my old phone but am a little disappointed currently. I will continue but if it doesn't impress further it will go back. Do love jelly bean!

Initially the battery is worse. After a few days it seemed to last longer. I also found that it gets quite warm, but I think that's mostly due to the glass
Coming from one s, it was gonna be a one x+ or N4 but like the natural android experience.

My first Android phone was the Galaxy Nexus, so I've already learned to deal with the horrible h/w, but had I switched from an iPhone to a Nexus 4, I would be VERY disappointed. The screen is a complete joke. My iPod Touch 5g completely obliterates it in every way imaginable. The phone is definitely fast though, and I love the 2gb of RAM (I literally have yet to witness a suspended app in the background close and have to reload when I go back to it...amazing!).
Overall, it isn't a bad phone. It's just not a great phone. What really lets it down is the build quality, just like every other Android. Also, let's be honest, the UI is incredibly dated in the core OS (even compared to apps like G+ or YouTube). The notification shade is incredibly ugly compared to the one in iOS. Certain perpetual quirks (some reported to Google as early as 2009 and with plenty of posts on Google's bug reporting site) also hinder the OS overall. For example, who the hell decided that notifications should still play through the phone when headphones are plugged in? What about that damn annoying "too many text messages" error? Speaking of the messaging app, the back button is supposed to go back to the last app used if you accessed it from notification tray. The only app I've found that specifically ignores this rule and always goes back to the home screen is the messaging app. WTF? I know I'll probably get flamed for saying all of this, but as cliche as it sounds, it's the little things that matter.
Many people will resort to fanboyism and childish "that's not a big deal" or "go buy an iPhone" retorts. However, I truly believe that these relatively minor issues are holding Android back considerably. If they were to get fixed (all the issues I've listed could easily be fixed in a minor point update), Android would truly be excellent.

I've come from an iPhone, an iPhone before that, and an iPhone before that. I'm loving my Nexus
You're going to get flamed because of two reasons. What you said about the N4's screen and the notification bar. Because to most of us, you're completely wrong.

PMSL, you still here...
no fanboys yet your a known apple one!
As for all the things holding android back, I don't think they are worried with about 70% global share with iOS less than 20.
Apple are dying, they release the same phone every year and with swipe to unlock, multi touch and rubber banding patents already ruled as invalid - they are gonna struggle to even try and sue people.
Don't like the phone, return it.
Don't like stock android, why buy a phone with it?

"I'm going to DESTROY AND **** ON EVERYTHING YOU GUYS ENJOY AND LOVE, but DONT HATE OR YOU'RE A FANBOY"
Your opinion means nothing to me and is totally objectively unfounded.
Listen to yourself. Minor issues are holding it back considerably? Really? The message error warrants buying an iPhone? You're just nitpicking and I believe not many people here will share your delusions. Jelly bean is a solid platform.
Also how is build quality bad compared to the iPhone 5? Both feel like fragile premium devices.

I take it you've never placed an iPhone 5 and an N4 side by side. The iPod Touch has the same screen as the iPhone 5, and it is FAR suprerior. Brightness, saturation, clarity, viewing angles, gamma, and even touch response. Before I got the iPod, I was actually pretty impressed with the N4 screen because I compared it to my old Gnex (which had a far worse screen than the N4), but compared to the screen Apple uses, the N4 looks downright ugly. The brightness is a complete joke. The one advantage that I thought he N4 would have (based on reviews) was the black levels, and those turned out to be the exact same. I literally cannot tell the difference (both extremely good for LCDs).

"the UI is incredibly dated in the core OS (even compared to apps like G+ or YouTube). The notification shade is incredibly ugly compared to the one in iOS."
Seriously? Talk about outdated OS, iOS has barely changed since its first release, only adding basic features such as wallpapers, compass, turn by turn navigation etc which Android has had for quite some time
Enjoy your maps bud.

Did I mention maps anywhere in my OP? Android has a ton of advantages over iOS. I'm simply saying that if Google were to fix a few seemingly perpetual faults with Android, it would be a truly great OS.
Isn't making an "Android is stupid. iPhone 4eva" post on XDA kind of dumb? How could you expect to meet with anything but hostility and, in my case, pity?

Actually, you're a known Google fanboy. You've defended every single mistake Google has made with the Nexus launch and with the device itself. You went your as far as being a jerk to people who hadn't received their device yet in the shipping thread. Troll elsewhere. Do you have nothing better to do that to post in this thread?

That's coincidental, not irony.... But if Alanis Morissette got it wrong, you can't blame others for doing same.
Besides use Tapatalk instead. It actually works better on the iPhone 6+ than Note 4 (you see more content/posts on it).
I have both the 6+ & Note 4 (and a moto x 2014) and contrary to popular belief the two can co-exist very happily - both great phones. My app usage is near identical between them too.
Both have great screens and great battery life. And after 5 months use, neither my Note 4 has a gap gate issue or iPhone 6+ bend gate issue....
I don't understand why some in android or apple communities get so insecure about these things. Just enjoy whatever device you are using.
That being said I'm not sure why your post is entirely relevant here and will inevitably stir up a hornets nest.
I must admit I have thought about it while sitting here waiting for lollipop. Considered the Nexus 6 as well, but at the end of the day this Note can do things that none of the competition can. The pen mostly but the removable battery and sd card are also nice. 6+ would be ok if I got the 128gb version but here in New Zealand a 32gb Nexus 6 costs the same as a note 4 so it's a total no brainer, lollipop or not.

why? Just interested...
I actually had the same thought, because I admire the beauty of the iPhone. But after taking a look I realized that they wanted me to pay extra cash for the exchange which is ridiculous since they get a better phone from me then I get from them.. But I might trade phones, just to try out the 6+ someday..
Im waiting for "IPhone 17 plus +" until then I stick with Note series.

I actually think it's not a bad idea at all. I've been with Andorid since the start and never had an Iphone, but there's tons of apps that have better support on iOS/apps that are not on Android at all. anyway..why not change once in awhile and try new things right? maybe i'll do it with my next phone
I made complete research, and just for change of taste, i went to buy an iphone 6+, got it booked here in Pakistan. but ended up buying a Note 4, and my first 2-3 days were of full depression because of battery drains but now its all fine. the only regret i have is the sound quality i was having with htc one m8 before, otherwise note4 is soooo awesome <3
After just one day with it, I quite content with it. Seems to be pretty solid...so far.

The fact that you can't use NFC (no secure token such as yubikey) for anything other than ApplePay, or that you can't use openvpn or PGP on an iPhone makes it an unsuitable/undesirable device for me. I hate how you can only run software endorsed by Apple on a device you paid for.

Agree but that's how they maintain the pubic perception that their platform is stable, secure and reliable. In reality it's no better that a high end Android these days, it's just that it's much easier for Android users to completely bork their phone by installing badly built apps.
Also iOS is easier to develop for, so long as you're compatible with the latest iOS you don't really need to worry about much else. Android is completely different. People could be running your app on anything from gingerbread to lollipop, have from a 1ghz single core cpu to a quad/octa core monster, 512mb to 3gb ram, 600x800 up to 1440x2560 screen res, etc etc.
In other words I couldn't give a **** for iOS, but the app ecosystem is kind of tempting.

Can you elaborate on this? While your statement holds partial truth, it was also ironic that I tried to download a well-known android app on my iPhone. Never, EVER make me feel like I wasted money on an education again!
