I have a problem with my galaxy s4. My screen stopped working just out of the blue. I was sitting on my desk, checked the time once, tried to check the time again in 5 mins and the screen was not working. The phone has never fallen, neither being hit. When i try to turn it on the screen just flashes for a quarter of a second and that's all. Can't get in odin mode or any other mode. Please help!
PS: The rom is stock. The phone is like it came out of the factory.
Sounds like a hardware issue. Either way, I would try to force it into Download Mode with a USB jig and flash back to stock to make sure.

Is this related to the S4 or the S4 Active 'cause they're two very different devices with respect to the screens (AMOLED vs LCD, respectively).
Still not much can be done from a forum perspective; it sounds like a hardware issue to me based on the description - the display (whichever version) could just have up and died.

Hi everyone...
I've been having problems with my Galaxy S since yesterday. After upgrading to XXJPM my display is rotated 180 degrees (completely upside down). Strangely enough, the touch interface seems to be working just fine.
For example, the "Phone" icon is supposed to be on the bottom-left of the screen. It is now displayed on the top-right corner (again, upside down) but in order to activate it I still have to touch the bottom-left corner right on the icon's original position.
The display is also rotated 180 degrees if I enter recovery or download mode, but the volume up-down buttons still function as is. There are times when the display will appear normal for a few seconds before rotating itself 180 degrees again.
I followed the installation steps to the letter, did everything properly, I even searched just in case other users had similar issues, but I still haven't found a fix yet (really sorry if I missed similar threads). I also tried calibrating the g-sensor, but that didn't solve the problem.
Auto-rotate works perfectly, but the screen is still upside down no matter which way I rotate the handset. The same goes for when auto-rotate is off.
Any thought will be highly appreciated. I'm also willing to make a small donation if necessary. I'm desperate for a solution
Odd. Try flashing a new rom

I did, but that didn't solve the problem. I think it has something to do with the bootloader since during startup the screen would show the normal Galaxy S logo correctly for about one second and then the display is rotated. Even the download/recovery interface is flipped.
The Good and the bad
Good news first: you are not the only one have this problem.
I have same problem after updated Nordic v. Froyo.
Bad one is I haven't got a clue how to sole the problem.
Let't belive ours has special talent which can jump twice more that ordinary ones.
try reflashing with one of the roms that has a bootloader included. search around not all do.. i know the jh2 for i9000m has bootloader..

I'll give it a try. Will search for a good rom with bootloader included after this

Tried this, didn't work too. I also tried Tayutama Edition rom, actually it helps a bit. After finishing the sdcard scanning routine the screen would work just fine for quite a while before going straight back to being rotated. It is also still upside down during the entire boot process.
Found another interesting discovery. Still using Tayutama firmware, if I switch the Power-Saving Mode from Display settings off and on, the display will be reverted back to normal.
I wonder what's causing this issue in the first place...
Tried another fresh rom, still no improvement...
I attached a picture showing how the screen is upside down even in download mode. Notice how the USB port and the download mode triangle just don't match.
Any further advice would be highly appreciated
Solved Mine!
Make sure Galaxy lie FLAT(back of galaxy isn't flat)
Setting-Display-calibrate
Mine worked that way hope yours too.
Now landscape to potrate turn like cream
but added bonus is landscape turn either ways .
what a great addition.

I'm afraid that doesn't work for me
I'm glad you fixed your Galaxy S though. Quick question: did you have the screen upside down during the Galaxy S logo animation on startup?
It seems diffren kind problem
I am sorry that my solution did not work for you.
Mine did work few hours after down load Froyo.
Then problem began.
Have you tried factory reset then calibration?

Yes, I tried that and it didn't work.
Still trying different solutions right now, hope I can get a good solution soon
I have another Galaxy S in hand. The broken one still has its screen upside down. I was wondering if I can backup the bootloader and ROM of this new Galaxy S with the system working correctly to the broken one. Will that be possible?
As always, inputs are welcomed
Thanks wonbad!

Thanks! I had also problems with auto rotation, did even factory reset but did not start to work until made calibration you mentioned.
I've tried virtually anything to get the display fixed, including doing a complete rom backup of a healthy Galaxy S, and the display is still rotated. I think it really is a bootloader problem.
I took it to Samsung service center here in Bali. They said they can fix it, but they won't because I got the device in UK and I need to take it to a service center in the UK to get it fixed. Crazy...
A quick Note
==========
Just to make it clear, for any future reference, display rotation if shown when it is powered off and charging and also while booting, this is most probably a hardware issue, this can ONLy be achieved by replacing the LCD (or doing a hardware repair of the LCD) it has nothing to do with sensors or software.
Thanks.
Hi everyone,
The last few days I've been trying to revive my friends Galaxy S i9000.
He brought it to me when his screen all of a sudden wouldn't work anymore. All that it puts out are faint green, pixelated lines.
At first I thought it to be a crashed ROM or something, so I hooked it up to Odin and started flashing.
Two days later I've been through a whole lot of ROM's, ranging from stock Froyo's to custom ROM's with SpeedKernel I run on my own (still working ) Galaxy S.
All to no avail. The last ROM I flashed is the stock Samsung Gingerbread one, and I can hear the phone booting with the startup sound and all, even hear the keytones when I go over the touchscreen.
But still... the screen is either black, or when I wait a while after booting, looks like the image attached to this post.
I'm starting to think this is a hardware problem. I have already opened up the case but can't see anything wrong, all the connectors and ribbon cables attached to 'em look just fine.
Any suggestions or should I just get a replacement SAMOLED from eBay?
Any help is much appreciated, thanks!
this mofo is dead as hell...
Haha yeah I guess... but it still functions as a phone, with the startup sounds and all, vibrate also works, it's just the screen that's not functioning like it should...
The problem seems to be with the screen, get it checked by any local mobile repairer if it isnt under warranty !
I have looked up all the threads relating to an issue with some galaxy notes going pink all of a sudden. The thing is I can't find a viable fix for the problem.
I had never disassembled my phone and the screen slowly turned purple and started blackening out. It was fully functional. This I knew because I connected it to my Windows 7 computer and used Android Commander. I ordered a new screen complete with bezel etc. I have two batteries, the first didn't even charge after I put it in the phone (it had drained totally during the wait for the new screen and went dead), the second was partially charged and allowed the screen to boot. It is however behaving like the first screen did before it went black, that is purple. I am sure I have not done anything wrong with the connections when I dismantled it. Could it be the batteries? or the adapter flex? I just hope it is not the mainboard. It is not on warranty and we don't have that many honest phone specialists around where I live. I am almost sure others have experienced the same problem and someone on xda knows what the problem is. If you do I would be indebted.
Whites show up ok on startup but turn immediately pink. Blues are a big problem. I think that it must be software because from bright white it turns pink, and at the moment it screen brightness is at full intensity it is ok for a time. However don't want to leave it at full intensity. I have tried changing screen intensity and unchecking screen power usage in Settings/display.
I was on Ultimate JB rom, but have just gone to stock JB Rom (Germany LT4) same problem.
Please help.
Thanks
Instead of wasting money and time, go to a Samsung Service Center and get it fixed. Someone in this forum (i guess he was from Brazil or Portugal) has the same problem when he updated to ICS or Jelly Bean but worked fine with gingerbread. Flash a GB rom from Dr.ketan post and look if it works. If still has the same problem, go to a Samsung Official Service. Good luck and sorry my bad english
Thanks for the advice
I'll try it out.
Hi Guys,
So this morning, I woke up to find my phone had rebooted overnight. Not surprised by this, as it often happens randomly from time to time. This time however it was stuck on the Samsung splash screen, black screen with white writing, saying N7000 blah blah....
So I rebooted the phone, and it was still stuck on the N7000 splash screen. I left it like this whilst I drove to work, and it was still like it.
I took the battery out, and left it for a little while and put it back in, but NOTHING. black / blank screen... I left it on charge on and off through out the day, as I was trying to fix another phone issue (someone elses at work...)
Anyway, got back to mine, and still nothing. Still nothing booting or displaying on screen now, just blank / black screen. As our phones don't have LED notification light, can't tell if there's life there or not. The [Open Windows] and [Back] buttons don't light up or anything.
I've read about the famous "Samsung, Black Screen of Death" which appears to affect many Galaxy branded devices, S1 - S5, Note 1 - 4, and some other models, higher up without removable batteries.
They all seems to post positive remarks, getting their phones back from the dead, by holding power button down for 1x minute and leaving the battery out to drain phone of residual? power.... I've tried this, and still no life yet. They say it may not work first time... I've tried it a few times.
Do I keep going, or is it DEAD DEAD now?? Anyone else had this? Has it worked for you guys or not??
So gutted, loved this phone...
Thanks, Lister
:crying:Still DEAD:crying:
Have you tried using Kies to restore the OS? Or download the OS file from Sammobile and install it manually using Odin.
Hi @iceepyon,
Thank you so much for replying, I appreciate that... :good:
Sadly though, I think my Note is a little beyond that stage... It doesn't even turn on, with or without battery/mains power. I think either the eMMC chip is toast, or some other hardware failure now.
All these Black Screen of Deaths for Samsung video's appear not to apply to my device, and think my device is actually just a paperweight now. Gonna try one more time to bring it back from the dead, with a JIG and see if I can repair it that way... Otherwise, it will be going to the great Silicon Heaven, in the sky.....
Thanks again... Lister

Best of luck to you. If the eMMC chip is indeed toast then you would have to purchase a replacement motherboard. It is very hard to find a N910C motherboard.
Hi,
I just bought two untested N7000 phones. One is working fine after a factory reset but the other one is having some issues.
The phone takes about 2 min to get past the bootloader screen, but eventually boots. Download mode works too.
However, the S Pen is not working at all and the speaker seems to be dead as well.
I already opened the phone up to check for any signs of water damage or other hardware issues, but couldn't find anything. Almost looks brand new inside. The board gets somewhat warm, but not too much. I also tried 3 different batteries (they all work fine in the other Note). Flashing a stock JB rom didn't help either.
What could be the issue with this phone?
Thanks
