is there any way to seperate both the sound? i searched and checked some old threads of the old HTC Sense system, it's said that you can set the notification sound at the message preference in order to set the delivery report sound and then go set settings\personalize\sound\message sound, so you would get two different sound.
but at Sense 5 of HTC One, you will never set the seperate message sound at personalize settings, so it seems to be impossible to meet the goal of what i want.
after checking the code of Settings.apk at system/app with apktool and sth. else, i didn't find the way to modify or crack this either, at least there's no option to set the message sound seperately.
so has anyone done sth. like this? or success? TNX!

Can anyone tell me if I can just replace the phone.apk that has the ascending ringtone with one that uses the standard straight volume ringtone? Will doing this cause other issues?
The other question this brings me to is if I can just replace it, can I just copy it using Root Explorer?
Thank you so much for the help.
I'm not exactly 100% on this, but I don't think it works just like that.
As it's usually the Settings > Sound option that gives you that feature, not the actual Phone application itself (like I said, not 100% on it though).
like that title states notification for text wont sound tried changing the sound nothing all others work tho ringtone for voicemail everything. just cant figure it out.
Just to cover the basics,
Did you do the following:
1) Go to Settings, Sound, Volume and make sure everything is up?
2) Under Settings, Sound and in the Feedback area, make sure that all the appropriate options are selected?
3) Reboot the phone?
4) Use the volume switch on the side to go to completely silent and then push it back up?
Are your mp3 files playing?
Sent from my captivate running firefly!
yep ive done all that stuff mp3 files will play even when im selecting a new tone on the msgs it plays there just wont play when i get a msg. i am using zedge if that helps
the email ringtone that i set for my msg ringtone worked ugh this is pissing me off.
Are you on a custom ROM? I guess it is possible this is a side effect of a bad flash. Might want to try reflashing whatever ROM you are on. Make sure you backup first, but when you restore don't restore system data. Part of that system data could be your problem and you would just be restoring it, thus putting you in an endless loop.
i am on a custom rom continuum v4 but ive been using this one for almost 2 months
If you have root explorer or another file system app, check in your system\media\audio folder. Under the notifications folder, see if you have anything in there. I have had a bad flash wipe my ringtones before and had to download some I wanted. Just a thought
Try this : go to Messaging/menu/settings. The VERY last option will set your sms tone.
well it started working when i did that i noticed it was really low so when it played i turned the volume up and it started working

Thanks this works for me with the same problem. Good thing there's the search bar!
So I NEVER used my phone on sound mode, only vibrate. Now i started using it with sounds due to some circunstances, and i wanted to change a notifcation sound, and it won't just change, and keep playing the old one. Strange thing is I go back to the notifcation sound list, and it says the sound i want is checked.
Anyone had a similiar problem and can help me?
Using stock 2.3.5 GB ROM and b83 CF-Root.

failing all else
identify which ringtone is being set in default
rename the ringtone which you want, to that one
and then replace it in /system/media/audio/notifications
i know its a roundabout way, but thats the only way i can think of
Change the default sound then ..Set it in build.prop
Insert witty sentence here
So no way to get it working or what is causing the phone option not to set it?

Let me try to give more info:
I set any other sound and it isn't working.
Number 1 question: does the file needs to be in .ogg? I tried both .ogg(stock notification sounds that come with phone) and aren't working. The tone stays the same.
Number 2 question:
I have system/media/audio/notifications - If I go to Settings -> Sound -> Notification Sound, it scans this folder, either .ogg and .mp3, it shows the files.
I have on the ROOT of the sdcard a folder called Notifications - If I go to Settings -> Sound -> Notification Sound, it scans this folder, either .ogg and .mp3, it shows the files.
I have a sdcard/Media/audio/notifications - Not showing at all in Settings -> Sound -> Notification Sound list.
Does the folders confict on some way?

NVM this topic I know whats happening. Since I never used Sound on my phone, I though Settings - sound - notification would include SMS etc, but seems own stock SMS app has his own notification sound. Sorry for the time wasted and ty for all the help!
I have been an android user for a long time, but this one is stumping me as there is no process or specific error. I have searched and haven't found anyone with a similar problem. Just got a Nexus 6 today and it will not make any notification sounds. The notification volume is all the way up and phone calls have a ringtone that works. What is really throwing me off is that when I am in the general settings or the settings for any other app, clicking on a notification sound has no response. I will be in settings and overlooking the list of potential default notification sounds and no matter which one I click there is no noise, as where with the ringtones they all will play me the sample.
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate it, I hate that something this simple has stumped me somehow.
Thank you.
this happens with my alarm sound in the settings. it just won't play it, even though its a google sound. but, when its needed, like when my alarm goes off, it sounds. and that's what is really important. so I ignore the fact that it doesn't play in settings anymore (it used to though).

If that were the case I could deal with it but it won't even make a sound when its supposed to.

try using an app to set a notification sound, maybe that will work.
This happened to me running Pure Nexus, reboot fixed the issue. Still not sure why it didn't work in the first place

When setting up individual notification sounds in messages or any other sms app, it changes every contact to the same sound.
Am I missing a permission?
I am on 12.54.0 global rom.
Thanks for any help.
Would like to know the answer to this as well as it is rather annoying.
Did read somewhere that you need to safe all you contacts to the phone or it only works if you have 1 SIm card active (which is a bit dumb) as I have a work SIM and a oersonal SIM in the phone.
The MIUI is so full of bugs it's laughable.
I can't get even get a custom ringtone to work. It just reverts to stock one (dual sim).
€1200 hardware with software made by potato heads..
I guess there is some comfort knowing it is not operator error.
I am using an app BuzzKill as a work around to get customized notifications.
Hope a more elegant solution will come with future upgrades.

If you go to themes - ringtones - you can select your own from storage, should be a text line under the top graphic banner (I put mine in the download folder)

Tried that. Even tried Zedge app. It just ignores the Ringtones folder even if I can go there and pick a file. I'm not on rooted or unlocked but I bet a 100 bucks it's a permission setting or something dumb like that.
