Dear all,
Could you guide me sources and/or infos related to Sony w8? I cannot find dedicated forum for this phone. Since it is almost the same to Sony x8, I post my question in this forum. All I want to know is as follow.
1. How to root w8
2. Custom froyo built ROM with wifi tethering support
3. Other tips and tricks
If you can answer or know where I can go for, please help show them.
It is a good smart phone at its value. I bought it at USD190 which is $20 more than x8. But I love glossy black in front and glossy orange back over.
Thanks,

x8 and w8 is the same phone with same software and hardware but different color..you can root it same as x8 and use x8 custom froyo or gingerbread rom..but native wifi tethering is not supported by any rom but you can use barnacle wifi tether from market.
1. Root tutorial
You may use X8's super1click with no problem.
2. I am not sure, try the x8 custom rom if you dare.
3. Just root and use link2sd,it is enough for you daily use, these are what i can say.
Thanks. I will try superoneclick to root my device. I will not dare to install custom ROM for x8 since they are optimized for it only. I will wait till some friends develop one for w8. Link2SD is something I am considering now if I have to wait for froy built or to try it with current 2.1.
try to use ROM X8 in W8
I've tried to use ROM's X8 into my phone W8. Flash result is OK but it doesn't working properly, my SIM card doesn't work. It always change to airplane mode. So Who can fix this problem???
Which ROM are you using?
Are your mobile carrier locked?
ROM for Sony ericsson W8
I used many ROMs such as FroyoBread, KuyaDroid, MiniCM, etc and it has same problem.

I want to try but I don't have any experience in modding ROM
Superoneclick is not working with my w8. Even it shows success rooting but no root permission. Su command is not working and su running test by superoneclick is also not responding. Superuser is there but useless. Can somebody guide me new ways? I want to install app2sd as soon as possible.

have you rebooted your phone after rooting ???
Hi, I have a question about the S3 Toolkit. I have a International S3 LTE, GT-I9305. I am on stock ROM, and on Android 4.1.2, build no. JZO54K.I9305XXBMB4, baseband version I9305XXBMA2. I am trying to root my phone through the toolkit, but there is a problem I encountered. There are two versions I see under International LTE that are similar to the above version numbers. The first one is 15. Android 4.1.2 [Build JZO54K BLL3] and the other is 16. Android 4.1.2 [Build JZO54K BLL5]. As you have read, i'm trying to root my phone, but if I select the wrong device version and build, it might brick my phone, so how do I find out which number is it behind BLL? Like BLL3 or BLL5?

Try framaroot to root your phone(frodo exploit), worked great for my s3lte:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37508806
If i understand it rightly the toolkit contains kind of prerooted images which must correspond to your actual rom and will be flashed to your phone. Both versions you mentioned don't match your actual rom. Btw framaroot is an app and nothing gets flashed so imho much saver and no risk of flashing the wrong image.

Ok, actually I did try Framaroot once, but all the exploits didn't work. I'm going to try it again, I'll edit this post once I'm done.
Edit: I tried Framaroot again, and both exploits didn't work. I tried the options for installing SuperSU and Superuser, both also didn't work. (funny that the Settings button doesn't do anything.)
So, how do I root my phone?

Go to the dev section for the gs3 lte and look for Odin flashable pre root. Its awesome and it make your life a lot easier rather than having to fiddle with this and that

Thanks, but I found this app called Samsung Quick Root, and it says it can be used for all Samsung phones. Can I use this instead?
Edit : BTW, is there a way I can retain the original kernel (the one i'm using now; stock) so I can flash it back after installing the insecure kernel? (I can use any insecure kernel right?)
You could try but rooting doesn't give you a different kernel. It usually involves getting a custom recovery and flashing super user
There are some apps the use the exploit on the soc but I don't use them

OK, thanks for the advice given. For the method you have given me, I can't seem to find the correct one which matches my PDA, CSC and product code for the (modified) stock packages category down the post. So am I supposed to use anyone of the packages given? If something wrong happens, can I just flash back my package that I can get from sammobile.com?

Yes you can flash them as long as you can or you can Google framaroot and it will root your device without flashing anything

Ok, thanks. Is there any specific reason why Framaroot doesn't work on my phone? All exploits and root methods don't work on my phone. Why?
Edit: Another different question, is there any way I can do a screenshot using the stock method (I believe it's Vol Down+Home?) on the S3? Without the motion (slide palm over screen) screenshot thing option turned on, I tried different combinations of hardware buttons, but none worked. How?

Random bump, but just curious (I didn't want to flood that previous post. ). Will Samsung make a 4.2.1 update for the I9305? Or will they just wait until 5.0 is out, then make a 5.0 update (if Samsung does update the original S3 to 5.0 when its out, they probably should make one for the I9305 right?)?

Hi! I'm trying to root my i9305 and we have the same case. So what did you chose within the two? Or you just came with different rooting procedure?
Thanks!
I assume your phone build is not under the toolkit? I did not root my phone using that method. This is how I rooted my phone:
1. Using Odin, I flashed the CWM recovery.
2. Went into recovery, flashed the root zip I got from one of the threads here.
3. Rooted!

Yep I downloaded the v7.0 toolkit and my phone is not into it. Yet on the latest version of the toolkit which is v7.40 my phone is already listed there. Maybe I could just wait for the developer to upload the latest version.
So I have been able to achieve root on my c6606 as well as install TWRP recovery, but I am having a lot of trouble flashing ANYTHING, from custom roms to mods sound mods and camera mods etc. After installing anything I will either get as far as the sony logo or to the xperia logo but then it just continues on a boot loop. My Xperia Z is on 10.1.1.b.0.166 firmware, so does this have something to do with it, since I have been trying to install 4.2.2 roms etc? Anyways if I am skipping a step in the flashing process can someone help me out?
I successfully moved to 4.2.2 on my C6606 using this method.

This is a little old, but anyone with a 6606 who has successfully been able to flash most of these roms that say they are locied bootloader compatible, can you tell me what processes.you are using? Right now any rom gives me a bootloop or frozen sony logo, flashing the stock or.dev.recfommended kernel has.no effect. Could dual recovery be.telling me things are installing fine but failing?
---------- Post added at 07:40 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:49 PM ----------
nevermind i figured it out. There should be a sticky or a mention in the guide section: the 6606 does not like all recoveries, and they wont install roms properly, leading to bootloops and freezes.
none of the NUT recoveries i could find or any reccomended in dev posts about their rom worked, but XZ recovery came through like a bamf on this phone.
No problem to flash, but be carreful with the kind of ROM, it will have to be for locked bootloaders. In the case of this Xperia Z model, the bootloader can't be unlocked.
Now I have eXistenZ v3 in mi C6606.
Yeah it was just that it didnt like the dual recovery. But now roms marked for LB are installing smooth, and I finally should be able to check out existenz!

Greetings,
Today I was charging my S3 (i9305) and turned off the power. I later discovered that my phone was still on even though I had turned it off. I found out that when charging my phone with the power off it rebooted my phone. I don't know if it's a problem with the Rom or phone. Help would be appreciated. (I have attached a picture of what my phone gets stuck on before it reboots). Thanks.

Hi,
Im not sure but maybe this is the old bootloader issue..are you on new or old bootloader? and have you installed agni kernel that comes by default with the rom? cause i thought that the reboot issue only was present in the boeffla kernels for this rom, which i have removed from the rom thread some time ago, because they were not stable.
It is definately not a rom problem, cause im using this rom every day (btw im on new 4.4.4 bootloader) and i didnt had any reboots from the 1st day till this time also not with the 4.3 bootloader, using Agni kernel 4.9 everything works fine, even offline charging works, but from this we already knew that offline charging was working well on new bootloader.

Well the case is that the bootloader is not something you can find separately and flash it for example like a flashable zip, the only way to update the bootloader is by flashing 4.3 or 4.4.4 official firmware from sammobile.com or any other site where you can download samsung official firmwares, and it has the KNOX feature included which really sucks, therefore these bootloaders are also called KNOX bootloader. You can check what bootloader you have at the moment by booting into downloadmode and in left upper corner of the downloadmode screen if there is a line saying ´´KNOX WARRANTY VOID´´ means you already have the new knox bootloader and since the new Android 4.4.4 now there is also a line in blue color saying ´´SECURE DOWNLOAD : ENABLED'' which is the case with me.
If you like to update the bootloader you can do that, in my signature there is a link to ODIN guide, also there is a link in the guide for if you want to learn more about knox bootloader before you do anything, cause when you flash 4.3 or 4.4.4 official firmware the knox bootloader will remain forever with the device, its not something you can delete like an .apk file, the bootloader is part of the device structure.
This knox bootloader seems to cause problems with installing custom roms or applying root etc. (not for everyone though) but im now KNOXED for some time and never had actually any kind of problem installing custom roms or rooting etc. besides that i think that our i9305 is now getting old and 4.4.4 is probably the last official update to come from Samsung, so it doesnt really matter to be knoxed or not knoxed at this time IMHO and most of the people dont care anymore about warranty being void, but if you like to avoid such small issues like device rebooting by itself or any other issue caused by the old bootloader with 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 custom roms, i recommend everyone to update the bootloader if you plan to run 4.4.2 or 4.4.4 custom roms as daily driver.
If you are still not sure about this or you dont understand something, you can always look for more info in the general Q&A thread or just do some research on the internet.
Cheers
Thank you

I think wifi direct isnt working then, for the audio skipping i think its related to your kernel settings, try other governors for example. I dont have this issue, music playing fine with me.

Sorry there's nothing to present you the requirements you have described. You can stay on the stock ROM if you would like. If you still want to use a 4.4 ROM, expect to not see Bravia, XLoud, ClearPhase. LED Notification will still work, obviously.
