J.b. 4.3 root, wanted - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm looking for rooting my Note n7000 running Slimroms JB 4.3
I found a a flashable zip that should give me my root back but cwm says the file ain't no good. The file is signed.

Read this:
http://www.slimroms.net/index.php/news/366-4-3-installation-instruction
And seriously, you could have solved this yourself by reading the last posts in the Slim Bean thread... or using the search function.

I used search, only came up with irrelevant posts

Well, maybe you should learn how to search... This is the search for the term "root" in the Slim Bean thread...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/search.php?searchid=221557213
Or you could have gone to the thread, read the first posts by the dev and you would have seen:

Sorry for my blindness. I got root back so thank you

[Q] Notification Drawer Toggling of Mobile Data/Sync

I've seen on the xda forums that some people have 'extra' toggling buttons at the top of their notification drawer(hope it's the correct term, 1st three months as Android OS user), My friend's S3 has them by default too, does the Note have it? or is there a need for root/custom launcher; since S3 has a newer rev of the Touchwiz Launcher. If possible, i would like to avoid rooting!
What the phone currently has, from stock is just 5 buttons at the top, which are Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, Profile, Screen Rotation, Power Saving.
Wish to add: Mobile Data toggle/ Sync toggle (dunno if there's any more available)
something like this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1620625
^yeap, that's it. but i have a query, it's my first time with an android phone, barely used for 4 months.
i don't get wat's flashing with CWM; does that require root? what exactly is CWM, apart from the full name?
does flashing that mod = voiding my warranty like what rooting does?
Bump. Anyone knows why the note doesn't have it o.o

You can use some app from playstore for extra toggles if you do not want to root but flashing this mod requires root and cwm.
If you are rooted, you can have 15 toggles without having cwm, here is a small guide- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30668303

To root your phone, you could simply flash a safe rooted kernel like Odin version hydracore through ODIN.
You will get yellow triangle and increased counter. But you can reset it easily with triangle away app by chain fire.A simple search would bring it up....

Yes, check rooting guide by dr.ketan in my sig, follow any method (1st or 2nd) as you prefer.

Thanks for the above confirmations/help provided.
One last query, how do I backup my current settings? I suppose the sequence is root, backup and then apply mod?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
Bump!
Question in my above post in unanswered :x
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk 2
when u root and apply a safe kernel like hydracore or speedmod.. u will get cwm thru which u can backup the ROM using the nandroid backup feature.
The best start is to get Rooted first.. then install the 15 toggles you want.. search threads and you will find a lot with different shapes and themes

See there is nothing like versions of rooting. Rooting has only two parts visible as of user side. One is CWM app and the other one is SuperUser.
You can't mess up with CWM unless the Dev of your ROM Doesn't nod his head vertically.
So all you can do is Update Superuser to SuperSU.
PM me if you want to know more.
Time to pull your socks up.

[ROM] Android 4.2.2 | JDQ39 | Stock | Unrooted

This is just a flashable stock unrooted ROM for anyone wanting a copy to flash via CWM as opposed to fastboot. It was literally the JDQ39 system image dumped into the dsixda kitchen and thrown straight back out with NO changes whatsoever - it's not even deodexed! Useful if you need to use an app which can still detect root even after using a root-hider app (e.g. to watch Sky Go in the UK)
It is the 100% untouched, unmolested system image
Enjoy...

Far as I know, OTA is dependent on the recovery. So you would still need stock recovery to pull the OTA.
Someone feel free to correct me if I'm mistaken. I came from an HTC monstrosity, and we all know how easy those are to modify.

Hmm. Though we would get "Failed" upon an ota via s3 I remember regardless of recovery it would indeed update as well as patch recovery. But I'm not saying this is the case on nexus devices as this indeed is my first.

Hey swirly ..as you approach a possible flash coming from this flash able stock zip would you mind posting any positive results if any with your performance and battery? I have heard and at times on other devices found at times this does improve somewhat by the partitions being reset or to those lines etc. Thank you.

You didn't keep a stock from first flash?. I always do. Good ole flashback unroot then delete twrp (depending if really needed as s3 wasn't) then protect root with root keeper then unroot take ota then load saved root. If this doesn't work on nexus 4 I'd love to know but worked on RAZR rezound and s3..if not I'll report in a created thread via next update. My reason is I like having that true first stock backup. Good for fresh installs of custom when reverting first. IMO lol

Just a quick question. If you flash this and then flash stock recovery, can you basically unroot by doing that? It'll be much easier (at least in my opinion) of you could just flash the rom to unroot and go back to pure stock
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
Well the truth is that if you have cwm 6+ the OTA installs with no problem and if you are root, it keeps it too! Just for your information the OTA needs system ,bootloader, radio, boot.img unmodified.
TBH I made this to help people too lazy to flash the stock factory image from Google. I'd always recommend the factory image personally
Gapps requirement
Is gapps required after flashing the ROM?

Stock sucks, get yourself a nice custom ROM and kernel to fully enjoy the nexus. If you wanted to stay stock, you can trade it for an iPad mini. Customization is what makes android so much fun.

Good thing we've got these wonderful members at XDA to dictate what you should and shouldn't like. Please eat a sock and go back to your custom ROMs. If stock works for him, who are you to tell him he's wrong?
Welcome to the Nexus 7. I prefer stock too. Though I'm waiting on Chrome 28 for some faster browsing I must say it's really great over all.

If you just want to access files in the tablet as if it was a USB, just plug it in, no other driver needed.

Now all you have to do is download GMD gesture control (the free one). I went back to stock on my nexus 7 and am not rooted. I really wanted to try it on my tablet because it is great on my phone. Try it and see what you think. I would love to live vicariously through you right now. haha
I use official AOKP rom on my Galaxy Nexus and SmoothRom on my N7. Works great however I am thinking of throwing AOKP on my N7 too just for laughs and because it tested much faster then SmoothRom.
I like Smoothrom because they only release solid builds. I don't think they've updates the rom in months. But it just works well. I think I'm using MKernel. SmoothRom includes several kernels build as well as GAPPs. Its a All-In-One package which makes things easier. Once you flash it starts a setup where you can pick and choose lots of options like installing Android Browser and/or various kernels.

Busy box

Hi I have had a good read through but cannot find much answers, I don't like to start new threads merge or delete if must
But my question Is I have stock 434 Rom on 4.1.2 I've rooted using bina4ry multi root all is good and nfc works
Next I installed TWRP through the APk on this forum again all is good and holding volume up whilst in green light, turns purple and boots too TWRP and reboots no problem
Now to my main question Before I start with a few mods etc, should I install busy box? Or need I not bother with stock Rom.
