How to unlock bootloader - Galaxy S III Mini Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi! I want to install a custom rom with my Galaxy S3 Mini but my bootloader is locked. Anyone know how to unlock it?

It's not locked. Every Samsung phone gets with unlocked bootloader.

Unfortunately...
If it's an at&t galaxy s3 mini there is no workaround and no unlock still. At&t has gotten really awful about this. I think it's time to switch providers.

[Q] Unlocked Bootloader

Hi guys! I´m the owner of X8 15i device, i´m testing new roms, but i´m a little bit confuse about unlock bootloader. i read that if my celphone is unlocked by SIM the procedure to unlock the bootloader could lock my phone back. I bought it unlocked, how can i determine how was unlocked? I want to test Froyobread an Mini CM7 but both recommend install a new kernel. I really appreciate your help!
Do u mean when u buy the phone,it is sim free..(no contract)?
Im using a sim free phone n dont have any problem after unlock bootloader. But try reading more to get better confirmation...

Yes Malice, it is a sim free phone!! Also i woul like to know if this kernel update is mandatory to update to those ROMS that i mentioned. Thanks again!
For froyobread....just use stock kernel. For mini cm,it is recommended to use nAa kernel

installing unbranded android would unlock n700 ?

short story guys.
I bought a n7000 for my girl, reinstall unbranded android many times, instaled CM10 and now returned to 2.3.6 unbranded. i just sold the phone and the guy who bought it will use a different carrier.
I haven't thought about the lock then , but now i am worried. Is it still locked ?
well the guy just calle dme ...it is locked. i will have to teach him how to root it an unlock it
Kind of his problem to figure that out isn't it?
Did you promise it was unlocked?

please help unbrick galaxy s3 mini g730v

Hello all
Please i have searched all forums about unbrick galaxy s3 mini g730v verizon edition
It shows DLOAD_QHUSB
And no Jtag option found on riff box
please help how to unbrick my device
If there's no JTAG, you're kinda screwed, my friend. The only option left I see is bringing it back to Verizon.

I'm not sure. I don't think the normal I8190 bootloader will work on this variant. You can always try to bring it back to Verizon, but remember, your warranty is void.

[Q] Why does Locked Bootloader Matter?

So I have the AT&T S5 with a locked bootloader. I rooted it, put safestrap on it, and installed a custom ROM. Now I read that the Tmobile S5 has an unlocked bootloader, but given that I can root and install custom ROMs, why is the Tmobile variant any better? Also I read locked and encrypted used interchangeably regarding the bootloader, perhaps they are both locked but not encrypted?
Lastly, does an unlocked Tmobile S5 work seamlessly on the AT&T network, it appears the LTE bands overlap so I'm guessing so. Is there a good reason to sell the AT&T variant and get the Tmobile one?
Ungh, stupid AT&T.
You can only flash custom roms based on the stock kernel. With a locked bootloader you'll never be able to flash an aosp rom.

Nor will we be able to flash 4.4.4(or later) when it becomes available. We are stuck waiting for att to release an update, and then we might lose root.

Hopefully we will see somthing happen

Does this mean that the custom roms that are installed are still ultimately based on the original G900A one, or at least the kernel is the same?

Basically, yes.
The recent OTA will update the kernel and firmware, right? But does towelroot still work? Is it likely that the bootloader will be more difficult to break later if I do update?
