Hi! I hope you coul help me. I'm in Peru, Southamerica and I bought a HTC Incredible S in USA.
I can't connect the cellphone to 3g internet, only 2g. Checking the specificactions I see that:
3G Network HSDPA 900 / 2100
HSDPA 850 / 1900 - North America
I understood that in USA, you can use those bands, therefore,it should be the same in Peru because the cellphone company works in the same bands.
I read this threadhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786144 and a user said that first versions of the cellphone have no those bands, but later versions have it.
Is there a way to know if my cellphone has this feature? Checking internet, I saw a code *#2263# to enter to a menu and change the band, is that true? I tried but I got an error... Well, I understand that the cellphone has the hardware feature, but there is not active, if I root, flash, or update the cellphone I could change that option? Thanks in advance for your answers!
PD. Sorry for my english!

No, you cannot change the radio frequencies by rooting.
You need to find out the modeled. In FASTBOOT USB mode, enter the following command:
fastboot getvar all
And post your results.
Hi, I'm sorry for not to answer before, but, I had lent the phone to a friend.
Is it ok that I use this thread as guide to make the fastboot? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2277112

Hello everyone,
I bought a G1 from Rogers in canada, but now I live in germany.
I don't know how it actually works, but I have been unable to get 3G connections here (only GPRS and normal cell phone), using the O2 company. After doing some research I realized that the radio frequencies are different (according to http://www.gsmarena.com/network-bands.php3?sCountry=GERMANY, then go to canada to check it out).
Are there any possibilities to change the radio frequencies of UMTS? My phone is rooted.
Thanks a lot!
Dial:
*#*#4636#*#*
Then goto phone info
Scrool down list
Change preffered network to WCDMA only for 3G only
Exit
Edit: O2 doesnt use the same 3G freq as Rogers, so you must stay with EDGE.
if memory serves correctly - o2 and tmobile work on the same frequencies in germany
if this is the case there is nothing you can do as the radio frequency is a hardware thing
Thanks for the reply!
I did that, but after a while it changes back to 'WCDMA preferred'.
I went to the O2 store, and the guy tested the chip with a Palm Pre, and it worked fine.. but with my G1 it didn't, only GPRS.
rogers use different frequencies to most other providers worldwide
rogers, atnt and some south african one use one set for 3G but everyone else uses another
you WILL NOT get 3G on the rogers dream on frequencies not used by rogers

900/2100 MHz and out here we have 850/2100 mhz wcdma.

All I know is that it allows you to force a specific phone freq, im not sure if all HTC phones have test mode which that number brings up. It doesnt allow you to change the freq only force one type. So a quad-band phone can be forced to use 2G only instead of 3G.It doesnt give access to unsupported bands cause thats a hardware thing.
I am discussing this very subject here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=15461093&posted=1#post15461093 would appreciate any comments or suggestions.
I have a factory unlock international SGS version. I'll be moving to Toronto Canada soon. I would just like to know if my phone will still work when i arrive there. If not, is there a way for me to make it use 850mhz? Does is help if i'm running CM7?
Thanks in advance for the help!
mike
your phone is the international version, so it will work all around the world.
i assume your not a noob when it comes to flashing as you are currently on CM7 (not the easiest rom to install)
so if you do run into any trouble - mainly signal issues (which you shouldnt) a simple modem change should work
but i use JVO modem in UK other people use this modem in India, Australia and so on, works for them, works for me... you will be fine.
You will be ok as long as you have an 850/1900 modem

Thanks bro. The reason i'm asking here is because i read on several forums that not all SGS international phone have the hardware to support 850 band frequency. Meaning even if i change the modem that support such frequency, it won't work as there's no hardware to support it. But then again, I don't have any idea if this are true. Would you know any truth about this?
Oh by the way, at first i thought installing CM7 is hard, but once you finished reading the install instruction everything is smooth as butter.

Just want to ask, if i don't use modem that has these frequency (850/1900) for my cm7 sgs, would i still be able to use my phone? Please correct me if i'm wrong, these bands only lets me connect to 3g or hsdpa and has no effect in terms of making and receiving calls/sms?
Thanks again!
I don't think that is true at all, it's not a hardware issue, it is firmware, you just have to make sure your baseband firmware supports 850.

These bands are what connect your SIM card to carriers.. so yes you need these bands. Whatever carrier you are with will depend on your band.. in Canada for example. Bell and Telus use both 850/1900 mhz bands depending on location, Rogers I believe on uses 850... so if your modem, is 1900 only and you are in an 850 area, then you will have no signal and usually recieve an error like "SIM not compatable with carrier" if you try to force a connection.... the APN(access point names) are what connect you to 3g etc..

Cool! Thanks for clarifying this to me bro.
Got an used Captivate on eBay, came with kernel 2.6.35.13 Glitch v13.1, MIUI 2.2.17, Android 2.3.7 and modem UGJK4
Well, Captivate radio specs for 3G: HSDPA 850 / 1900 / 2100
My operator (TIM) uses 2100 in my city, excellent until now!
But, I'm stuck in EDGE, can't get it to connect any faster. We have other phones here got from England, Ireland and USA, all of them support 2100 and 3G works perfectly, but not this Captivate.
Already tried the following modems: UGKG3, XXJTV, XXJVU and currently on UGJL2.
Just after installing the UGJL2, it connected at HSDPA, but after 5 seconds changed to Edge and no (H) anymore
A weird thing, I tried another operator chip (VIVO), that also operates at 2100 in my area and HSDPA is enabled normally!
Got back my chip and back to EDGE, this same chip get 3G+ (HSDPA) on a Samsung Jet, Samsung Galaxy Mini and a Samsung i550.
Everything else works perfectly, calls, GPS, wifi...
Any tips?
Thanks!

From what I know, the Captivate only gets 3G on AT&T even when unlocked. I might be wrong, but I remember reading that somewhere.
Must be a myth, I use my captivate on 850mhz in Australia 3g and hspa work perfect.
Did you try to force 2100 with service mode?
Phoned in.....
But with the other operator chip 3G works normally, at the same place where my chip also get 3G on other phone. Both are 3G+ (Hsdpa) able, but not when together. That is what makes no sense.
I would have forced in servide mode, but all the codes for service mode does not seem to work, and I've seen around the forums that MIUI don't have it...
Is there any code besides *#0011# and *#*#197328640#*#* ?
Both not work here
Thanks for the help!
MIUI and AOSP do not allow for the forcing of certain bands. You can specify what region you are in, but that's about all. To do that, use dialer code
*#*#4636#*#*
Phone setting
Menu/select service bands
That's about as good as it gets.
Hope it helps.

Yes, I've tried Automatic and Euro (same bands used here), still Edge.
The strange thing is it get 3G from the other operator, that uses the same 2100 frequency... (at leaset they say it's both 2100)
Any way to see the frequency currently in use?

My carrier uses 850 and 2100.
My wife has a captivate also, her carrier uses 900 and 2100. Of course only the 2100 works but it is solid.

Ok, I discovered that it's an area problem probably, I tried at the office and got the H on the indicator! HSPDA is working, sometimes 'came down' to 3G (concrete building, not so good signal).
That's still strange because my friend get Hspa here, with a Galaxy S (I9000b), same operator, will call them soon to ask about this.
Anyway, it works! with ridiculous speed (180kbps), but it's better then Edge at 15kbps...
Thanks everybody for the help!
I got a Virgin Mobile HTC Desire 510 4G NoContract Cell Phone Black at Best Buy during Black Friday. If I manage to get it SIM unlocked will it work with GSM networks? Has anyone done this?
Thanks!
No. From the looks of it, the Virgin Mobile variant is a CDMA only device. So it doesn't have the hardware necessary for GSM functionality.
Buddy but htc 510 is global device ...?
Any progress on checking with gsm networks.
HTC Desire 510 Virgin USA
Hi there,
I wish to know if you could guide me through some alternative approach to unlock for HTC Desire 510 Virgin Mobile.
This is a no contract phone with Virigin Mobile USA.
I am sure it has the GSM Capabilities as well, when I looked at the usermanual, it has an option where I Can go to settings and change if only GSM or CDMA can be used.
I purchased an unlock code from another service provider online. Followed the steps. When I insert another sim card, it does not prompt me to enter the Unlock Code and the phone keeps saying Invalid Sim.
Would you guys be able to help.
Are there any other options on your phone?
On your phone, do you have any options other than: LTE/CDMA and CDMA ?
Thanks !

Ok, thank you! I know it can be unlocked, both the SIM and the boot loader, but that was not my question. The question has to do with the network. On the settings shows LTE/CDMA and CDMA; for it to work on a GSM network it would have to say something like GSM 2G, GSM 3G, GSM 4G or something like that.

I have the same question about this phone, I bought it on Cyber Monday and an Amazon Customer Agent told me that is a GSM phone. On the phone you can type * # * # 4 6 3 6 # * # * and a menu will show and you can change between some options include GSM/GPRS/LTE/CDMA/WCDMA.
Currently I'm searching the way to unlock it to use any network but still without nothing :crying:
If you have any option to us we placed you!!

Hi All,

Hello everyone.
As i didnt want to open an new topic because i found this one.
I am from Greece and i got this phone as gift from my uncle., the phone is setup at CDMA network and does not have the GSM/WCDMA setting. when i get into the *#*#INFO#*#* i can see there that i can change the network type to GSM/WCDMA/LTE but i dont know how to save it. does anyone know any method to make this one work properly?
Unlock GSM Bands
You don't have to do anything to save it. I would bet that you can change it and if you wait a little while it reverts back to CDMA. I think it reverts back because the frequencies needed for GSM/WCDMA/LTE are locked. I would recommend http://forum.xda-developers.com/cro...ad-progress-please-leave-im-updating-t2871269 and unlocking the following bands:
2G Network GSM 850 / 900 / 1800 / 1900
3G Network HSDPA 850 / 900 / 2100
4G Network LTE 800 / 1800 / 2600
After you do that, my guess is that it will accept GSM/WCDMA/LTE. Beware that I have not done this, but that's what makes sense to me. Let us know the outcome. Good luck!

No I not finish, have a trouble with the step 10 in the tutorial, and cannot continue.
Do this:
adb shell
su
cd /sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/f_diag
echo 1 > on
[Credit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1619314]
Windows should automatically try to find the drivers... if it does not use the drivers on the original post. If windows finds the drivers you should have a new Com port and you can go to step 14.

Hi guys I bought a Q-sim dual adapter and now without the adapter or with it always tell me that it's not registered on the network. Cat make calls or anything. It's there any way to fix it? Maybe reflashing de radio? Please help!
Samsung SM-G900F
Android: 5.0
3.4.0-3624618(G900FXXU1BNL9)
LRX21T.G900FXXU1BNL9
Just google "s5 not registered on the network"
Follow the steps
Also it seems that you got the European variant. So you should get 2G and 3G just fine, and for LTE, it should lock on to the 850 since it is present. But you have to google and find att's APN and set your APN yourself (one time deal)
(Bands 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 8, 20) - SM-G900F

Well, all I can think of at this point is
1- if your phone is reading the sim at all? (do you get the no SIM message?)
2- if yes, then is your phone locked to a specific carrier?
3- is you phone blacklisted?(do a free online ESN check to see if it is clean)
Well the phone is unlocked and reading the sim but it's strange because I'm traveling in other country using different sim card. I'm afraid it's backlisted.. What I could do?
