GB, ICS, JB Kernels... - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I'm pretty new to the N7000 party (yes, so late in the N7000 life...) But hey, I upgraded from my dead ZTE Blade to this, and totally loving the device... So anyway, I am new around here, and forum user DaedRic (if ya see this, please by all means chip in..) has been an absolute star... and has talked me through some good advice, do's/dont's with the N7000.
As I am late to this party, I still however would like to see what GB was like on the N7000... but all of this info seems to be dead/burried, or some say is unsafe? (yet I thought that only applied to ICS Stock?).
So was wondering guys, what kernels and roms you use, esp with GB?
I've found kernels for CM9, CM10, TW / ASOP / AOKP in the name of HydroCore v7
Philz for ICS TW
Assylum for Android 4.3
But yeah, what Kernel or Rom would ya suggest for GB please??
Many thanks, Lister

[Q] Best ICS ROM???

What is the best ice cream sandwich rom with/without best battery life ever created, modified or developed.
IMO it's the KingDroid ICS NoteMania Edition v1.6 TouchWizz UX. It is very fast and beautiful, it also has the Google play apps and the s-pen ones.

There is nothing called the best rom.It really depends on what features you want and with what rom you feel comfortable. As of now,you have the following options for safe ICS roms
1.CyanogenMod9
2.Asylum ICS
3.MiUi
4.ParanoidAndroid.
5.And other ASOP/AKOP roms build on cm9.
The roms other than above are built on lp1,lp5,lpy or lpf F/W which has the potential to brick your phone.
what is KingDroid based on??

Can AOKP N7000 build 39 rom can brick my device ?????

If you flash Kingdroid, would you lose any of the S-Pen functionality? I've heard it does :S
I am using Galaxy Note for a long time. I was always far to the custom roms since they have various bugs mostly. But after a long time I changed my mind when i see the Paranoid Android rom. It is really cool with its Tablet/Phone hybrid functions and views. I can easily say that it is really smoother then the official ICS roms. And the battery, performance, speed, stability etc everything is just fine.
Maybe you can give a shot on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802
by the way it is a CM9 based rom and it is safe to use (doesnt have the brick bug)

The advice Ayush770 should be ported over to development for the unsure, noobs or just need a plain straight method.
My preference is CM9, any ROM no matter how good that has a PINK unicorn (angry looking or not) & message's you your a jerk when you disable said PINK unicorn...........well you decide!

Using Kingdroid NoteMania v3 with Speedmod kernel #k3-3.
S-Pen works great and so does all S-Pen enhanced apps
Battery life is good. Single charge gets me through the day with Exchange push mail, Gmail, Skype and Plume running all the time
Speed is fast. Of course, after you flash Speedmod kernel, it takes some time to settle down. Initially it may lag but as you use it and it creates the dalvik cache, it gets faster
TouchWiz5 is better than TW4 though I use NovaLauncher. There is no lag in either but I like the clean look of Nova over TW
Replaced Samsung Email with AOSP Email client and Samsung Messaging with AOSP Messaging. Now all messaging apps look homogeneous (Gmail, Email and Messaging)
Do not use Live Wallpapers as it hogs battery. I use a plain black wallpaper with screen brightness at ~70%. Still battery gets me through the day
Go to task manager and clear RAM once a day. Close apps you are not going to use for sometime
Cheers

It's mainly up to you and your opinion what is better or not. I almost was fixing to say CM9, but read closely that you said GB roms. I'm not running GB anymore so I don't really know much about all the new versions of the GB ROMs out now. It is safe on GB so just try out different ROMs until you find one you like.
The franco kernel for GB is not supported anymore because he is on ICS now so that stinks that you lost at least one GB kernel that I used to use and can say is very good on GB. Speedmod kernel is pretty good though.
Well, best is relative to experience. I was on LC1 with speedmod k2-12 and it served my purpose.

Well, i dont think there have a ROM that can name it as the best
Becoz all ROM are create for difference favour people
Example for me,i looking for a ROM with better battery life
And if for GB i prefer get Rocket ROM
So far , i use is ok for me ,only have a small bug with the kernal
Sometime will get SoD (Sleep of Time) but not long ,just around 20sec?
Other then that ,it is nice for me, especially battery life,it is quite a big improve
So if you asking my suggestion , i would prefer for Rocket rom
thankd for the info guys. rocket rom looks good. they type of rom/kernal id like is a light rom /w touchwiz no bloatware, fast, tweaked, good battery etc etc and kernal overclocked and fast also.
stock ROM maybe
For confused sorts and for those who want full functionality,I would recommend the stock ROM. If your much into tech info and can handle the tweaks then go for a custom ROM of your flavour.
I'm using KingDroid ICS NoteMania Edition v1.6 / franko.kernel for ICS r3, very smooth and stable with one *very annoying* bug, I can't change the lock screen's wallpaper.
I was running lp4 base-band, with Franco kernel on Checkrom...Quite decent, I would say.

[Q] What's your favorite GB rom?

The title says it all, excuse me if that was posted before but I couldn't find one for N7000.
I'm on KingDroid ICS v1.6 now with SpeedMod K3-2 (tried franco r3 as well) but the AudioOut_1 wakelock is annoying, so I'm thinking about going back to GB and wanted to know what everyone's favorite GB rom is and why.
lightning rom is the best no issues at all.

I have tried DarkyROM, Chrack´s rom, CheckROM, Cassie's XtraLiteRom, Litering Rom for GB roms. I found them to be comparable in terms of battery life and performance. However I now use Chrack´s rom because of the extra small zip file option and it has most of the function I need. I can put in my favorite apks.
Darky and Cassie. Darky was the smoothest, Cassie the most battery-friendly.

I know it has been rebranded, but I am old school, and it is still Darky for me.
Same thing as Market and Playstore (or however it is called nowadays).

The benefits for me are the tablet mode, safe kernel, and ability to switch internal and external sd card. The rom is also much smaller. However you will not be able to run some tw based applications. You need to try it out.
Tablet Mode/UI is incredible. Safe kernel was important but since franco and speedmod came out with the workaround, they are safe. ROM size varies. Asylum is very small compared to CM9 itself and ParanoidAndroid. But they are all CM9 based.
You will NOT be able to run Samsung apps, like S Note, S Memo, S planner, anything to do with the S pen button, etc etc.

[q] safe kernel for xxlq2 ics

Hi Friends,
I flashed my SGN N7000 with stock ICS rom XXLQ2. I noticed in the xda forum stock ICS rom has a e_mmc fault and can be cause heard brick.
Could anyone suggest me a safe kernel which I can full wipe/ reset facrory and all other recovery options without any fear.
I'm looking forward your earlier response since me new to this android..
Kind Regards
Speedmod or Abyss are known to be safe.
Any 2.3.5 kernel is safe.
Go to here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
Download a GB 2.3.5 kernel, and you got yourself a brand new phone. Did the same 2 days ago to go to Paranoid Android ROM v0.4. Can recommend this, I'm very happy with it.
To do this check out this tutorial by me here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5K5Wm_201Y&feature=plcp

I can recommend the Goku Kernel. It's based on Speedmod but comes with a few extras like additional cpu governors... And even the latest beta is stable. What's more funky81 is actively developing his kernel.
By the way because it's based on Speedmod the emmc bug is fixed or more precisely circumvented.
