So I just sent a group message too two people and was hoping the stock SMS app would support group messaging. But to my surprise when someone replies back to group I get a single txt from that person and not in the group message. One person has a S4 and the other has a Iphone 5. Is there a fix for this or am I just left off installing the CM messaging app?

I have it checked and it only sends the message to everyone but I do not receive messages back in the group.
Use group SMS or try using some messengers...

Can anyone confirm if the CM messenger has working group?
Hangouts is a good multiplatform messanger.
Give Textra a try. It's my favorite SMS app and group MMS works great.
i used the stock SMS app for group text all the time with no issue. groups as large as 10 people no issue. im running the CM SMS app now for the added features and yes, it works perfectly as well.
My stock messaging does group

More than likely this issue is caused by the iPhone 5 response, I have received group messaging with other android users fine, but throw an iPhone user in the mix and you start to get individual texts back. When I was running CM10.2 on my DNA they were able to get this fixed, but I think the iPhone 4's responses were still coming back as individual.
It could also be that the person responding is using an app that doesn't support group MMS. When they respond they only respond to you.

and to add to all the problems. AT&T and VZW use different formats for their messages so things get tricky there. Also the older iphones and the newer iphones use different text message formats. This is why if you send a big text to a vzw customer it will show up often as an entire block but if it is an AT&T customer it will break it up into the 179 (or however many) characters.
This is also the reason that if you send a long text to an older iphone it will come in not in the same order as you sent it on their phone. I looked into all of this because I use mightytext so i send long text from my computer a lot and people with older iphones on AT&T always get jumbled messages.
The entire system is just crap but its not worth the making a uniformed format because it would cost money and not enough people complain or know about all the issues. IMHO.

Google Play Description:
Have you ever been driving and got a text, and needed to tell the person you can't reply?
Have you ever gotten into a text loop, where you are texting someone and the person wont stop replying?
Ever wanted to have a rest from texting, and tell the person texting you this?
Well, this app can do that for you!
No SMS, when enabled, will send a pre-defined SMS to the person who send you an SMS. It even comes with a system to stop it going in a loop if you feel like texting yourself
(This has been snipped a bit).
It costs £3, and you get my continued support throughout the lifetime of the app

This app may need more special features instead of NO SMS
Yeah dude, pretty expensive given the functionality. That's almost 5 USD.
I'm with these guys.. I've been using the free one for about 4 months and there's really no difference... I mean, I'm not dogging on your work or anything, but that does seem steep.

I got my Nexus 4 today, and the first texts i got where as a mass MMS from iPhone users. Previously when receiving these messages, I would get a distinct thread for each of the contacts in the group, but surprisingly, the Nexus 4 supports the grouping of these messages into one thread. I am very happy with these features since most of my cousins have iphones. And I am surprised this feature has not been mentioned by anyone. +1 to Google.
That's actually really awesome to hear... The other day on my old phone, some iPhone users added me to a group chat, and I got hundreds of MMS messages that wouldn't download and were just spanning my phone. It was so annoying! To hear that Android supports this now is awesome! Thanks for this!

So you don't really have to watch the video to understand what is going on here. I usually post those as reminders to people on my Youtube channel that there is an easy, non intrusive way to get visual voicemail as an AT&T user.
A while back they stopped bundling AT&T phones with their Visual Voicemail bloatware. They replaced it with AT&T Messages. The main thing most people disliked about that was the fact that it took over as the default text messenger as well. However, we can still use AT&T's VVM app.

Wow, no YouMail option in the poll? I switched to YouMail back on my S3 when I was running a ROM that wouldn't work with AT&T VVM and it's all I've ever used since on any phone and any rom, stock or custom.
I haven't touched You mail in ages. Signed up for it but my provider at the time didn't allow free forwarding to an out of area zip. Not sure I can modify the poll, but I'll check.

No worries. I'm just surprised more people don't use it. The customization (personlized greetings, etc.) is really nice.
I know this not a Moto X problem but I thought I would see if anyone here has any insight. A buddy of mine has an iPhone 6+ and he can see any emoticons I send. Be it from Messages, Messenger, or Hangouts.
Another friend of mine has an iPhone 5c and just gets a weird symbol with a question mark regardless of what app I send the SMS in. They both have the emoticon keyboard turned on, both iOS 8.1.1
I have tried troubleshooting the hell out of it but I just can't figure it out so if anyone has any thoughts please do share . (And yes I know the best solution would be to convince my friend to get rid of that POS 5c but currently not an option so I have to make do lol)
I've seen similar issues and that is most likely because the emoticons being sent aren't true emoticons in the sense you're thinking. Rather than sending a "" for a smile, most likely it's being converted to a unicode character set. This is fine when sent to other devices that have the same keyboard layout, but devices like the iPhones use their own interpretation (again, good for sending between them). There are probably some workarounds but that'd take more to go into than a quick reply.
I am thinking there is not really a standard for these. All manufacturers seem to have a spin of there own

Hello all. Had the N6 for a couple of weeks now and love this phone like I loved my last Nexus (the N1).
Only problem I've got is that my progeny like the simplicity of their iOS devices. I work away from home for long periods so I like to message them when possible. I picked up an ipad a couple of years ago for this purpose but really dislike the whole fiasco of keep track of two devices that have completely incompatible OSs.
The wife doesn't want me to set up a Google+ profile for the kids either so I'm looking for a solution that would allow me to message them from my N6 to their imessage accounts...
I found http://imessageonandroid.com/ but I'm leery of the need to side load what I would think should just be on the play store if it's so wonderful. I don't see any justification for side loading on their site either.
Anyone ever used it or know of another solution that I can seek out that doesn't involve the young one's creating more online accounts?
Thanks in advance.
If they have a gmail account you could use hangouts. You don't need to make a G+ to go with it and hangouts seems to be good for most people.
You won't find an iMessage solution. You will need to stick with something else that is cross platform. A few are Hangouts, Telegram, Whatsapp (You might need a telephone # for this one), and plenty of others.
Both my 3 and my 5 year olds, both with iPads, call me through hangouts almost nightly. They haven't grasped the whole messaging feature yet, but I work nights so its how I say goodnight to them sometimes. I'd say hangouts is your best, most full featured option.
My better half also enjoys iOS with her iPhone 6, she, however, hates hangouts and will only download it on her phone if I ask her to for a quick video chat.

Ditto except my big two use their iPods, my little two use the Nabi Jr and Galaxy Tab 3. My wife with an iPhone 6 won't even download it.

There's always Skype, kik and other third party messengers available as well.
