Problem with duration - android-OS takes too much energy - RAZR i Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
since about one week I have the problem that my battery loses a lot of energy even if I don't use the phone. The problem is that the android services (android-os, media server, standby) take too much energy!
I thought that it could be because of the app viber which I also installed one weekago, but I deleted it and the problem is still there. I attached a screenshot so you can see how many per cent android takes itself. I hope you don't have a problem with the German, the symbols and my description help you hopefully with understanding it.
I hope some of you can help me with solving this problem because my battery just lasts about 12 hours when I'm doing nothing! I don't really want to make a factory reset because I personalized it very much already.
My ROM is Moto JB 4.1.2 with a heavy touch of AOSP.
I hope somebody knows a solution.
Thank you very much.

With 69% of the battery going to the screen that doesn't look like "doing nothing", what kind of screen time was for that run?
Remember that a battery has limited energy, you could run 2 days with 4 hour screen time + other stuff, OR you could drain the phone in 12 hours with 5+ hours screen time (assuming other energy consumption parts of the phone are not that hungry for power on your usage model).
Also disable Google Now, but those stats look fishy....

Battery not so good

I didn't use the note much, but it needs to charge each day. This is bad than tablet. Any software to save battery? I tried 'air plane mode' sofeware, but it also turns off phone after sleep.

What apps and widgets are you running? Have you gone through 2 or 3 full discharge/recharge cycles? There are apps out there that can detect if any app is consuming your battery but you will have to search the forums as I don't know of any first hand.
Also, which ROM are you using? When I was using Rocket Rom v22 with AbyssKernel 4.1, my Note would last more than a day on the same charge even with moderate use. Give that a try as it also really boosts performance.
I'm currently on Team Rocket Rom (ICS based) v5 but have not used it extensively to comment on battery yet. So far with 3 activesync email accounts (all push), some widgets running (weather, clock, etc.) and the Note sitting idle consume about 2-3% battery per hour. Will monitor this.
most smartphones ned to be charged every day, what battery life are you expecting to get ?
battery depends on the usage and applications you installed on the phone.
have you tried rooting already? usually custom roms have the best alternatives of extending your phone's battery and giving it an optimal performance.
Try to stop some bloatwares that your phone's loading up everytime it starts up(from rebooting)

I am using la2 rom. Here i attached an picture.
Geez... i personally feel that one day charge is reasonable especially with the juice required to drive the big display.
Anyway, Juice Defender premium is one app that has helped me, and may help you too.
Since you got Activesync, with the premium version of JD, you can customize app to be excluded from 'power saving', so that the inbox is up to date.
+1 for juicedefender.
Other tips that may not be obvious to first-time smartphone owners are:
1. Set your screen brightness to auto. You don't need the brightness cranked right up all the time.
2. Disable bluetooth and GPS if you're not using them. Juicedefender will do a pretty good job of managing your other radios.
3. If you've got email syncing set up on your phone, set it to check as rarely as you can put up with. Push email uses a LOT of battery life, and even a scheduled check can blaze through your battery if it's happening often enough.
4. If you've put on a custom ROM your phone may be reporting inaccurate battery stats. Give it a full charge, boot into clockwork recovery and wipe your battery stats. You'll find a few days after that your phone will start reporting more accurately.
Good luck, and if any of this was unclear feel free to ask further questions.

Try a later ROM to see if the same issue exists. I think you should instal rocket rom v22 - you'll be happy with performance and battery life based on your usage.
try to calibrate your battery as well... there are many apps out there that offers better battery calibration or you can do a manual calibration as well.
Give it some time and upgrade your ROM
I am getting great battery life. It runs for full day (24 hrs) with 30% of battery usage. though in a day i dont use it much, just 5 to 10 calls of around half an hour to 40 minutes.. data and gps always on.. screen brightness on auto...
My note running the OEM battery last me about 6 hrs.
Averages about 45mins talk time/day
About 50 SMS/day
Screen brightness set to 100
Checks email every 5 mins
Using a live wallpaper
Refreshes the daily weather using Accuweather every hr
Bluetooth always turned on
Battery Widget
Fancy Widget
ESPN scoreboard ticker widget refreshes
Twitter running all day
Facebook Widget syncing all day
and more...

^ This. Or better yet, just always set your brightness to the lowest brightness setting, 50% afaik. And use black/dark wallpapers and always turn on night mode (if applicable, especially when using your browser)
If in case you need to adjust the brightness, you don't have to go through the jungle of settings, just click notification bar and slide horizontally to change to your preferred brightness.
Jd is hit n miss will actually helping out. If your phone sleeps a lot jd is nice at keeping cell or wifi off if your like me and on it every 10 minutes then toggling data and other things can consume more juice. .... I have tried with and without on my tablets and phones and see no big difference depending on use.

I was pretty happy with my battery until two days ago. I use my note very little, for e-mail checking (which I pull manually) a few times a day, and to make two or three phone calls per day. I also text my kids occasionally. GPS and Bluetooth are off most of the time. Battery used to last me about two and a half days under these conditions, which seemed reasonable to me. All of a sudden, two days ago, I charged my battery, and after a full charge it drained 60% overnight. Thought that it was a fluke, so rebooted my phone, fully charged again, and the same thing (over half of the juice gone overnight) happened again. Battery stats tell me that Android OS were 100% responsible for overnight drainage. Any clues? I am on stock ROM, by the way.
Thank you.

Get a good app to check what is using the battery or keeping the phone awake. This last is the most likely.
Baddass Battery Monitor is my recommendation.
Not a single phone call, only used about 10 mins. after 21 hours only 11% left. Install Jd with 'balanced' option.

Thank you. I will give that a try.
Badass, got to love that name....
Ok, I used the Badass monitor to see what's going on. Once again, no phone usage, quick overnight battery drainage. Android OS 100% responsible, and the main power sucker is the Kernel (96%). Why is this happening? And, is there a remedy? I have changed nothing that would trigger this! My Note is still within the return window, so if there is anything wrong with it, I will return it.
Thanks again.

Badass Monitor is very useful, my note was drained by Dolphin Browser, it used 38% of battery. Seems like for this browser, if I only press home key to exit, It will keep running?
I think the reason the battery drain fast is we press 'home' key to return to main menu, that will keep a lot of apps run in the background.

Xperia t JB Battery Life

Hi. I've updated my xperia t to Sony's official JB 4.1.2 9.1.A.0.489 firm.
I'm noticing that the battery life is no as good as expected. If I charge it up to 100%, and leave it locked all night, in the morning it has 80% , sometimes 75%. Some days, i can let it locked for 6 hours, and it's still in 100% ( strange at all). Of you look at the screenshots, it looks like it's always awake!
I've also tried with Battery Guru app, but I feel like it wastes more than it saves.
A friend has a Samsung galaxy ace ( i know, i cannot compare) and the battery literally doesn't go down if he doesn't use it.
Thank's guys.
P.S: Any idea about 9.1.A.1.138 firm? Changelog? availability?
Odp: Xperia t JB Battery Life
Battery problem is already known for this .489 FW. It's just a very first public release of JB, don't expect it will be completely bug-free. We just have to wait for the next releases with fixed this and that so the battery life would be correct again.
I have the same problems like you but I got used to them. For the first few days I was really pissed off and thought about flashing back ICS .195 (which had incredible battery life) but number of the advantages of having JB on my phone was the main factor of not going back to ICS.
That happened to me also lost more than 15% during sleep.
I disabled google search, facebook, android wakeup, etc and turned off auto sync and i lost 1.3% per hour.
In ics, i'm losing less than 1% per hour. So this is pretty decent to me. I'm still getting 3 hours of screen time.

You say that yoy've disabled android wakeup.. how do i do it??? , also in better battery stats, I see Alarm Manager and another alarmManager ( this second apparently from Sony) , with 811 and 2686 YES, 2686 wakeups each. Any idea? what are they about?

The Sony Alarm is Fast Dormancy
The other one is most likely the combined total of a number of apps - to see them you need to be rooted, then you can access "Alarms" from the dropdown menu.
How do I use:
adb shell dumpsys alarm > AlarmDump.txt
What app..cant find anywhere how to do this?
I have a V but generally same things apply.
I think there are simply too many items switched on that would not allow the phone to fall into deep sleep.
Also, a battery usage of 1.3 % / h when idle would hint to that.
I have around 3000 wakelocks, too, but under normal day usage and not during sleep. During sleep there a few only, wakelock time over night is 0 %, and the phone uses close to no battery. Straight segment is the night time usage.
Compare with the pic from above, that phone was used lesser than mine.

MSM_HSIC_HOST Wakelock. Suggestions on how to fix?

I have no idea how to get to the bottom of this. Everything I normally try simply doesn't work when it comes to fixing this problem. In Better Battery Stats, it's clear that something is causing the modem to stay awake, because msm_hsic_host is a direct reference to external modem. I will literally have 10-20 minutes max of partial wakelock from sync and then I will have over two hours of msm_hsic_host wakelocks. Avast and Better Battery Stats all do not show any application taking up significant data in the background.
This is making the difference between 4-5 hours of screen on time and 6-7 hours of screen on time. Is there some sort of method to figuring out what is destroying my battery life?
Don't know if this information will help, I have used wakelock detector from play, a free app to show various wake locks .
Also tried Qualcomm battery guru, again free from play , it's a beta app specifically for phone with Snapdragon soc. When first enabled it monitors your phone usage for over 24 hours before enabling various power saving options, that can be customized by the user.

hmm.. interesting to see this as i thought this was a 4.2 issue. See this thread below. The wakelock is related to a driver issue from qualcom who makes the snapdragon s4 pro and 600. They released a patch that has been merged into various custom kernels but the issue remains in the AOSP stock kernel to this day. This is a main reason why i dont mind being on 4.1.2 instead of 4.2.2 until google or a dev for the HTC one fixes it, your battery life will suffer

I ran a wireshark to figure out what was causing it.
One of my issues was Hotmail sync. Setting it to Push apparently means that it will constantly send packets back and forth. Stupid, but whatever.

Hey,
can you explain how you ran a wireshark? I have this wakelock and can't figure out how to stop it and I dont use hotmail sync
Same problem here.... Lot of wake locks and can't find out what causes it.
24% lost in 9 hours sleep mode.
I have the same problem. Because of this Wakelock my HTC One won't go back to DeepSleep.
Is there no app/tool to observe which ap causes this wakelock?
did anyone find a solution? which network are you on (i'm on vodafone nl)
Facebook messenger!
I had this issue as well.. the wakelock was doing its thing like 50% of the time.. removed facebook messenger => the values are back to normal.

It's apparently much better than the n4 which had nearly the same wake lock as off-charger time. The snapdragon 600 with HTC has much improved the wake lock times.
i woke up today to see this happen for the firs time to my phone.
newest changes to mine: installed ARHD 9 (but it was fine the day or two since, only last night it was unplugged from the wall, instead of the usb port)

[Q] Battery drain, cant find the cause!!

Gentleman, currently im having a big issue with my S3 Mini.
Some weeks ago, the battery started draining in a really short lapse of time. We are talking of aprox. 12 hourse of low usage (one phonecall, no sms, little whatsapp mesagging, some web sufring). By checking Betterbatterystats, i can confirm that almost 11 hours, the phone screen is off (or maybe 10 hours and a half).
I dont know what to do, i turned on airplane mode, and the problem persits. Changed rom 3 times (4.1.2 to 4.4, to 4.1.2 again), wiped data, cache, system, internal memory, etc..
Betterbatterystats screenshots are ATTACHED TO THE POST!!, to see if you cand find a wakelock, alarm, or something that can be interfering the battery life. (btw, i ruled out that theory since i changed rom and wiped everything so many times, but maybe there is something attached indefinetlely to the phone, really dont know).
The battery itself is the only reason in my mind right now, but the phone is only 9 months old (as well as the battery of course).
One thing that calls my attention, is that the charging time takes 2 hours max, maybe 1 hour and a half. Can the battery be damaged with so little lifetime?
Appreciate your help!!!

i had the same problem half a year ago (mine was also 8-9 months old back then). The phone started rebooting and many weird stuff happened I changed the battery and everything was ok. Now it's acting up again and i might change battery again.

Turn off wifi and reboot that helps sometimes . On the first Screenshot was your wifi always on. On the last Screenshot was your Android OS on the first place. That was the 1GHz bug.
facebook updates
Don't have facebook app (only messenger), and without messenger app, the battery keeps draining.
I red on the internet that the 1ghz bug tends to appear on Cyanogenmod. Only had cyanogenmod 11 for some days, turned back again to the stock rom.
Could this bug affect my phone right now? How can i fix it?
If not, im really thinking of buying a new battery, but the risk of another problem affecting the battery usage from the phone keeps turning me back!
Thanks!!

The battery don't seems to be neither round or thicker, and it don't spins freely.
Have you tried 'telling' the battery how much capacity it has again? (Drain until it automatically shuts down due to flat battery, charge back to 100% while off, switch on, drain again, charge again and use as normal)
Many manufacturers recommend charging when you reach 15-20% during normal use.
Also, have a look at govenors/schedulers if you have a custom ROM installed. Maybe changing combo works better for you, or even changing combo and switching back.

How I got 2 days battery life on Note 5 (I have the SM-N9208, DUOS)

I have tried many applications, including Amplify and a lot of battery saving apps and a lot other tips and tricks on XDA forums and other internet resources, but for some reason just could not get enough battery life on my note 5. The phone is great but for some reason 14-16 hours of battery life was always frustrating.
Not getting anywhere only frustrated me more. however i kept testing and testing different things and different combitnations. I also tried custom roms, kernals however still the battery life was almost same. It might be a possibility that I might not have been able to fully utilise the potential of certain apps due to lack of time and patience and understanding of the app functions.
Anyway, finally I have managed 2 days battery life on my phone and standytime is about .5 % per hour which is great.
things I have used:
1) Greenify - donate version (I have greenified system apps as well barring a few obvious ones - I went about it in a very simple manner, I almost greenified everything and then i observed apps that kept showing at the top under the column which says "apps not hibertaing automatically", so i removed those ones, since i feel that some system apps/processes might not hibernate and the fact that greenify might keep trying to hibernate them and apps keep fighting not to get hibernated, so i de-greenifed those one.s I might be wrong but this is exactly how i have configured greenify.)
2) Juice defender (free version) - I have installed juice defender and mind you just the free version. and it compliments greenify sooooooo well. i just enabled it and forgot about it, no configuration required.
3) Lux Auto Brightness - I installed this app and my phone started to handle brightness in a much effective manner. I configured (linked) some ambiances like office, home, and when i am outside, cloudy, sunny and thats it. The application can take brightness below zero as well if required as per the environment brightness, for example in a dark room. It handles brightness so much better.
Thats pretty much it, hardly any work, and voila! magic happened, now when i leave my phone at night around 10 pm and wake up in the morning, it only eats about 2-3 % battery, earlier it used to take an easy 10%. moreover even during the day when i am using the phone, it dont look for the charger.
I am a battery junkie, but finally when i have power, i find it boring that i not charge my phone everyday ....weird isnt it! human nature.....its like i am at peace now.
2 days is awesome. i dont need more then that, that is happy enought for me.
Please try and see if this helps someone. and do leave a feedback or if you have any questions at all.
this is my first post. Enjoy
The best way to get 2days bat is get ex-bat bro.

I am a power user, i am always playing with my phone, however i keep location and sync off and turn them on as and when required. My typical day is a lot of twitter, a few youtube videos, social media browsing, chrome usage and just random playing around. currently my usage since last full charge is:
1d 1h 30m 21s on battery
and 47% is still remaining.
I will probably have to charge my phone again in another 24 hours.
So that's pretty good.
as far as external battery is concerned, that could be a solution however I like my phone slim, without a case and not a big fan of external batteries.
Screen on time is the most important variable,as that is when the phone is using max power.
Sure I can get two days+ battery easily if I only have 2 hours SOT...

For starters, awesome battery life .
Please can u provide us with the screen on time u r getting ?
Im on official marshmallow (N920c), power user with facebook, whatsapp, chrome, some online games .. I get about 23hrs of usage with 5:45 - 6:30 SOT
If the SOT with greenify is much better then I will consider rooting
The SOT is 2 hours 11 minutes at 47 minutes.

nothing special there that's only 4.5hrs screen time!
Anyone can get 48+ hours with only 4 hours SOT...

screen on time of almost 3 hours and 2 full days of battery time with 17% left.... MM is pretty nice =D
Hey guys don't mean to trespass this thread but I'm trying to use greenify unrooted. Worked fine for a while but now everytime I use the auto hibernate shortcut I have to individually press ok on the force close warning of each app. Any ideas on how to automate it?
And how is lux different from auto brightness setting on the phone itself.

you might wanna reinstall greenify and start from scratch to see if it fixes it since troubleshooting will take up a lot of time for you, LUX can take brightness level in below zero as well, for example in a absolutely dark room even level 0 might be too much brightness, phone auto brightness is ok but it keeps the screen comparitively more bright than required, LUX is smarter and handles brightness better and only lights up the screen enough for good and comfortable viewing, therby saves a lot fo battery

I havn't yet disabled facebook, instagram and facebook messenger (system installed in samsung), if i do that the battery just produces even more juice, so people who can live without them, it will be a good idea to just get rid of them and make the phone last longer. Also you might wanna look into lighter alternatives if you absolutely have to have these apps.
@ 1234dino
great battery life bro'. i will try it and report back!
cheers!

Just an update people, i used titanium pro to add free version of juice defender as a system app, and set it up on aggressive, and now the screen SOT has jumped up to 7 hours as per GSAM battery monitor and battery life has gone over 2 days. I unplugged the phone this morning at 6.00 at 100 %, i am at 93 % so far, only percent in 7 hours, that pretty amazing.

these apps are outdated... 2011 and 2012. Do you think it's a good idea to support something that is not being developed anymore?
